Ensconced Darkness

It’s not as though there’s much to do
I’m just ensconced in darkness
Lying on the bed
Time passes by slowly
As the hurricane whips the world
And unleashes its raging fury for all to see

The darkened day in my shuttered room
Lingers and continues on and on and on
I wait and wait in darkness
Hoping for electricity to return
And yet, I have no clue just when it is that will happen

Day turns into night outside, but in a shuttered room
Both are equally as dark
There is time before everything ends
I once more hope and wait for wi-fi, along with electricity to come back
But I know inside that isn’t going to happen for a while

I know this area is one where hurricanes pass
But it’s been such a while since the last time one happened
I had almost forgotten what living through one is like

Living through a hurricane, even when securely inside a house
Isn’t much better
It’s still very uncomfortable
No electricity, no internet, no air conditioning
But it is livable

I have no clue when the power will return
I hope it’s soon, but again, I don’t know
I do know, however, that we will get past this
The storm will pass

Life will slowly return to normality
And us once more ensconced in our homes
Will blissfully enjoy our conveniences
Forgetting the experience of living through a hurricane
Until such time as it comes again
