- The current in-game date is: 12th of the Turning of Kindling, Anno Castra 31274
- === Overview ===
- In the world of Anno Castra, the loss of the sun and moon has been a serious detriment to their conception of time. Records from the Time Long Forgotten and the following decades have largely vanished or have been badly damaged or corrupted, requiring the residents of the Castles to reinvent such ideas through folklore, tradition and technology. The upshot is a warping of the notions of months, weeks and days.
- For the purposes of convenience, players don't have to strictly abide by this terminology. It will be assumed that the characters will use the terminology themselves since that's what they'd be accustomed to.
- === Periods of Time ===
- The Castles themselves simulate the passage of time through holographic panels in every layer's ceiling, but over the years, the concepts of "morning," "day," "afternoon," "evening" and "night" have more or less lost their meaning, becoming empty words. The period between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. is called "Waxing Light," while the period from 5 p.m. to approximately 10 p.m. is called "Waning Light." During Waxing Light, the lights in the holographic panels grow brighter with a dim gold hue, while during "Waning Light," they dim until they finally go dark. From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. is the period called the "Dark Hours."
- Each 24-hour period is known as a "Cycle." The terms "day" and "night" have fallen out of disuse as periods of time, and now refer almost exclusively to the mythical lands of Day and Night spoken of in the fables of the Abbey. Instead of "yesterday," "today" and "tomorrow," the residents of the Castles use "last Cycle," "this Cycle," and "next Cycle."
- === Cycles, Weeks and Months ===
- Each week is comprised of five Cycles, and each month is comprised of four weeks. Finally, there are nine months in a year. The names of the Cycles are, in order:
- Myldedag
- Gastdag
- Bloddag
- Regndag
- Fyrdag
- Fyrdag is designated as a Cycle of rest and filial piety by the Abbey. Even the most assiduous of commoners will not work then, and anyone who attempts to force them to work anyway can be charged with a crime. Most Holy Cycles (holidays) fall on Fyrdag.
- The names of the months are, in order:
- Turning of Kindling
- Turning of Sparks
