The Venetian Chronicles: Drina Kamaar
Yuuko: (fumbling with the camera before mounting it on a tripod. Before adjusting the focus on the camera and Clearing her throat) this is Council envoy Yuuko Shirakawa, agent of the dragon, and historian for the archives in Dublin Ireland. As part of the Chronicles initiative, I am interviewing active agents from the 21st century so that future generations may better understand the context in which events are taking place. This session is being recorded on 06/14/2017 in Greenfield Ireland, at the Green residence.
Yuuko: Could you please state your full name, date of birth, affiliation and rank.
Drina: “Uh… Medrina Kamaar… I was… born in the Spring of 1990. My affiliation is with the Dragon and my rank is… well, let’s go with classified?”
Yukko: Can you tell us about your family?
Drina: “Uh, they’re a circus family. My dad runs a traveling circus.”
Yuuko: Where did you grow up?
Drina: “All over, I guess. Traveling circus… Northern Africa, Middle East, some European countries...”
Yuuko: How would you describe your childhood?
Drina: “Different. It was a lot of hard work, but it was also fun, and interesting. I learned how to fire dance when I was, like… seven. I was doing aerials and stuff by then, too.”
Yuuko: How were you first introduced to the secret world?
Drina: “Let’s just say I was kind of born with the knowledge…”
Yuuko: Did you have any contact (either directly or indirectly) with your society before your powers awakened?
Drina: “None that I’m aware of. Who knows, though, right?”
Yuuko: Can you tell us what a normal day looks like for you?
Drina: “Not… really, no. My days vary, and a lot of what I do isn’t really in the public eye.”
Yuuko: How did you first get into DJing
Drina: “I’ve kind of always been into music, and DJ Ashval had poked me a few times about it before I finally tried out and got hooked up with Gridstream back in the day. It was a lot of fun, so I stuck with it and ended up moving over to Happy Tentacle Radio.”
Yuuko: Are there any similarities between performing in the circus and DJing?
Drina: Keeping the crowd pleased or interested. If you fail you may as well quit. You don’t want to be the boring act in the circus. Your livelihood depends on the applause.
Yuuko: Has your work for your society ever brought you into contact with anyone who would be considered historically significant (world leaders, celebrities, scientist and engineers.)
Drina: “Uh. Yes. I can’t… really say who, or how.”
Yuuko: Have you ever seen an event reported in the media and known that it was a lie and if so can you tell us what really happened?
Drina: She grins. “No comment.”
Yuuko: What was the last event you can remember that shook both the secret world and the mundane equally?
Drina: “When Frank Ocean finally dropped ‘Blonde.’ Huge moment.”
Yuuko: Have you ever participated in an event considered historically important to the mundane world and if so was it on behalf of your society
Drina: “Let’s go with ‘maybe’ for that one!”
Yuuko: ...could you please explain how the dinosaur thing got started?
Drina: Medrina laughs. “OK so… there was this chick Alicia who I used to talk with, and she’s like, an occult writer or whatever. So I started this thing on twitter trying to convince people that she was Christie Sims -- that it was one of her pen names. Anyway, she started throwing shade back about how I was into the books in the first place. And it really exploded the first time I read anything on air. Somebody asked what my favorite dinosaur was. And I said the T-Rex, and then read, like… the blurb for ‘Taken By the T-Rex.’ That pretty much sealed my fate.”
