- You're now chatting with a random stranger. Say hi!
- Question to discuss:
- Talk about whatever is bothering you.
- Stranger: having no one to talk to
- You: People randomly disconnecting before I finish my statements :P
- Stranger: that as well
- You: Meh, I usually find it difficult to actually think of a subject
- You: This works though..
- Stranger: haha i suppose
- Stranger: so what brings you here, stranger
- You: Boredom. Got tired of gaming and programming
- Stranger: I was writing my essay
- Stranger: but then i was like
- Stranger: nah
- You: lol
- You: I know that feeling
- You: What subject?
- Stranger: two subjects
- Stranger: one for english and one for history
- You: Ah. Last one I had was for Sociology, I believe.
- Stranger: Gotta write one on how the west was wild and then for gatsby
- You: Hmm. Essentially lawlessness in the west. Limited supplies + indian threats with difficult transport to and from the west turned it into that
- You: never read Gatsby though
- Stranger: It was really good actually
- You: I imagine so
- You: Actually, I remember, my last essay fro for world literature on the Illiad XD Great story
- You: for*
- Stranger: never heard of it
- You: You never heard of it?
- You: What about The Odyssey?
- Stranger: Ohh yeah,
- You: Ancient Greek Epics
- You: Epic Poems*
- You: Ancient works are always interesting :P
- Stranger: heard of oedipus?
- You: I recognize the name but I forget who he was
- Stranger: He married his mom
- Stranger: then brought disaster to his whole family
- You: Hmm. I'll need to read that one
- Stranger: It was veeeery interesting
- You: The most interesting I've read is actually from China. I forget the actual work though, it set the foundations of Daoism
- Stranger: Daoism is pretty cool
- You: Quite cool. I found that I already have learned some of its core philosophies before learning about it
- You: Like everything is perspective, nothing is absolute. :P
- Stranger: That's so weird to think about
- Stranger: Oh yeah, what's your name ?
- You: Tom
- Stranger: Gotcha,
- You: it's weird to think about because most of the western world thinks linearly, not paradoxically. The western "mind" believes in absolutes.
- You: Actually a shame, a lot would go more smoothly if people thought less like that :P
- Stranger: Religion is just so
- Stranger: eh
- You: It has it's ups and downs. With the Judeo-Christian beliefs, mostly downs, it would seem.
- You: (Hope I don't offend)
- Stranger: No I'm not offended
- Stranger: It's just I don't understand why there are fights over it
- You: Ok, never can be quite sure over just text :P
- Stranger: believe what you want but don't try to force it upon others
- You: I have a theory
- You: I took a course in Psychology and we learned about Identities
- Stranger: I wanna take psych next year
- You: When you start figuring out what you believe in, or what makes you, you. There are four states.
- You: Identity Achieved
- You: Moratorium (iirc)
- You: Foreclosed
- You: And, basically, unknown
- You: Identity Achieved happens when you undergo Moratoruim and you figure out your identity
- You: Foreclosure happens when you have your identity decided
- You: When this happens, you at a subconscious level might not identify with it
- You: And this causes a conflict
- You: Mostly anxiety
- You: And stress
- Stranger: Hmm never knew that
- You: I believe that because of this, many come to the conclusion that they must make others think as they do. After all, if everyone believes something it has to be true, doesn't it?
- You: So there are fights, because essentially, they are afraid of being wrong
- You: At least, that's my own theory
- You: Seeing how religion is sometimes forced, though, I can see it at work sometimes :P
- Stranger: hm interesting theory
- You: At least with the rise of instant communications and internet, more people are undergoing moratorium. So they are finding what they themselves want to believe. At any rate, it will hoefully mean less stress in the world
- You: hopefully*
- You: Oh, and psych is epic
- You: A very, very worthwhile course
