  1. Hey y'all. If you don't follow me on Twitter, I've been spending the day with Bubba. He got sick. He mightve eaten some bad food or something, not sure, but he was quite sick early this morning (around 5am it began).
  2.
  3. In the beginning, it was very very scary. He was puking very often. He puked, in total, maybe 6 or 7 times.
  4.
  5. The first episode began with him just puking up everything in his stomach, which (and I checked the puke... gross) was only the wet food he ate the night before. Maybe it was a bad can, no idea. But there was no blood or anything super concerning. The first episode of puking makes up most of the times he puked in total. He puked maybe 5 times, within the course of maybe 3 hours. By the time he puked the 5th time, there was mostly nothing coming out other than a tiny bit of what looked like stomach bile.
  6.
  7. After that, he barely moved, at all. This was extremely scary to me. He sat down in the middle of the floor and just sat there. He would barely even turn his head to look at me. His stomach was clearly hurting, he was nauseated.
  8.
  9. Saddest thing was, while he was sitting still for a while, a bunch of squirrels were right outside our open front door. Normally, he would be going APESHIT about this.
  10.
  11. But right then? He just sat there, his back to the door, not even turning his head to look. That's a big indicator that the nausea was bad. He DID turn his head eventually, bc those squirrels were truly going ape shit, but still.
  12.
  13. At this point, it had been a few hours. I'd been laying on the floor with him the entire time. I figured he could use water.
  14.
  15. I brought his water bowl over, with fresh, bottled water in it. He drank some of it. Unfortunately, not long after, he puked again.
  16.
  17. I contacted the vet. They don't have any openings any time soon, and told me if it's an emergency, go to the emergency pet hospital.
  18.
  19. So, I continued to keep an eye on him.
  20.
  21. After a while, he seemed to be a bit more comfortable. He got into one of his cardboard boxes and took a nap.
  22.
  23. While he was napping, I went out to buy him some soup. They sell these tiny, tiny little kitty soups, and they're perfect for times like these, because 1.) it's liquid food, easier on the stomach, and 2.) I could easily put some "digestive upset" medicine in it, and since it was so small, I could be sure he would eat it all and get all of the medicine.
  24.
  25. I got home, and to my surprise, he was at the front door, waiting for me. When I walked in, he acted almost normal: following me into the kitchen, rubbing his face on various things around the house, etc. A bunch of normal stuff that he wasn't doing earlier.
  26.
  27. I figured it was a good time to try one of the soups. I got one, mixed in the medicine, and gave it to him. He slurped it all up.
  28.
  29. After that, he went back to napping, which is great, because it gave the nutrients and medicine in the food some time to kick in. Around 2 hours later, he got up, and actually jumped up onto the back of the couch, which is a high jump. He sat there for a while, but then jumped back down, and puked again.
  30.
  31. A small setback. By now, he had definitely gotten the medicine in him.
  32.
  33. He took another nap. At this point, so did I. I slept for maybe 4 hours.
  34.
  35. When I woke up, I checked the house to see if he puked while I was asleep, and nope, nothing. Bubba woke up now, seeing I was awake.
  36.
  37. When he got up, he started acting very close to normal.
  38.
  39. He was still a bit cautious about getting crazy or anything, though. He obviously wasn't sprinting around or anything. But he seemed way, WAY better.
  40.
  41. He also seemed hungry. He was making it clear to me he wanted food. I figured we could try soup #2. I also put another dose of his medicine into this one.
  42.
  43. He ate every last bit of it, licking the bowl clean. And he did NOT throw it up!
  44.
  45. He also drank a bunch of water. No puking.
  46.
  47. A few hours later, of him acting way way better and me seeing he didn't puke from the soup and water, I figured it was time to try wet food.
  48.
  49. Bubba was very happy about this and made that clear by jumping up onto his hind legs as I went to put his food down. This was a quarter can of wet food, no medicine. He ate the majority of it.
  50.
  51. It's now been a few hours from then. He hasn't puked up the wet food, thank God. I gave him a full can of cat food about 1 hour ago, which he picked at a little bit, but not much. It seems like he's pacing himself, which is smart.
  52.
  53. I also gave him a few hard treats, which he ate happily. No puke.
  54.
  55. So, Bubba is definitely feeling much better, and hasn't puked since many hours ago, and is keeping normal food down now. I don't think he needs to go to an emergency animal hospital.
  56.
  57. I plan on continuing to watch him carefully. If he gets any worse, I promise I'll get him to the vet hospital the moment I think he needs it. I will also continue posting updates on Twitter, my Discord server, and here.
