  2068.
  2069. ASH
2070. Where did it come from...
  2071.
  2072. DALLAS
  2073. Somewhere inside that ship.
  2074.
  2075. PARKER
2076. How the hell is he breathing.

  2080. ASH
  2081. Blood's throughly oxygenated.
  2082.

2084. How. His nose and mouth seem

  2103.
  2104. ASH
2105. That must be how it's getting
  2106. oxygen to him.
  2107.
  2108. RIPLEY
2109. It doesn't make sense. It paralyzes
2110. him, puts him into a coma, then
  2111. keeps him alive.
  2112.
  2113. PARKER
2114. Let's kill it. We can't leave the
  2115. damn thing on him.
  2116.
  2117. ASH
2118. I don't know. At the moment the
2119. Creature is keeping him alive.
2120. If we remove it we might
  2121. terminate Kane...
  2122.
  2123. DALLAS
  2124. I don't think so. Let's take the
2125. chance and cut it off him.
  2126.
  2127. ASH
  2128. You'll take the responsibility.
  2129.
  2130. DALLAS
  2131. That's right.
  2132.
  2133. Slips into surgical gloves.
2134. Presses a switch, Kane slides back out of the booth.
  2135.
  2136. DALLAS

  2153. Starts to hiss.
2154. Smoke curls up from the stain.

  2214.
  2215. RIPLEY
  2216. What's happening.
  2217.
  2218. ASH
  2219. I think it's lost steam. No

  2221.
  2222. Ripley checks the opening.
  2223. Ash straightens up.
2224. Starts to put the pen back in his pocket.
2225. Changes his mind and stands holding it by the end.
  2226.
  2227. ASH
2228. I've never seen anything like that,
  2229. except molecular acid...
  2230.
  2231. BRETT
2232. This thing uses it for blood.
  2233.
  2234. ASH
2235. It's the asbestos that stopped it,
2236. otherwise it would have gone straight
  2237. through.
  2238.
  2239. DALLAS
  2240. Wonderful defense mechanism.
2241. You don't dare kill it.
  2242.
2243. Parker comes up the companionway.
  2244.
  2245. PARKER
  2246. It's stopped bleeding.
  2247.
  2248. DALLAS
2249. Yeah. After it penetrated two

  2251.
  2252. RIPLEY
  2253. What about Kane.
  2254.
  2255. Starts up companionway.

  2274.
  2275. ASH
  2276. Healed over.
  2277.
  2278. LAMBERT
2279. There must be some way we can get

  2281.
  2282. And look at Dallas.
  2283.
  2284. ASH
2285. I don't think you ought to try

  2288.
2289. Dallas gives him a look in return.
  2290. Ripley presses a button.

2293. Display lights up again, showing the different parts of
  2294. Kane's body.
  2295.
  2296. ASH
2297. I better get some intravenous
  2298. feeding started. So far I can't
2299. tell what the Alien has absorbed
  2300. from his system.
  2301.
2302. The machine begins to process Kane's body.
  2303.
  2304. RIPLEY
2305. What's the stain on his lungs.
  2306.
2307. The X-ray reveals a spreading dark blot in the chest cavity.
2308. At the center, the stain is completely opaque.
  2309.
  2310. ASH
2311. Whatever it is, it's blocking
  2312. the X-ray.
  2313.
  2314. A long moment.
  2315. The stain spreads.
  2316.
  2317. BRETT
  2318. What happens now.
  2319.
2320. Ash sets aside his partially melted pen.

  2334.
  2335. Parker pushes a button.
2336. Negative reaction on his monitor.
  2337.
  2338. PARKER
  2339. Nothing.
  2340.
  2341. BRETT

  2343.
  2344. PARKER
2345. Well, it wasn't. Try the next one.
  2346.
  2347. BRETT
  2348. Right.
  2349.
  2350. Adjusts several toggles.
  2351.

  2371. this ship...
  2372.
2373. Derisive laugh from Parker through the speaker.
  2374.
  2375. RIPLEY

  2409.
  2410. RIPLEY
  2411. What about the Creature.
  2412.
  2413. ASH
2414. It's got an outer layer of protein
2415. polysaccharides. A lot of Amino
2416. Acids for prolonged reistance to
  2417. adverse environmental conditions...
  2418. That enough for you.
  2419.
  2420. RIPLEY
  2421. Plenty. What's it mean.
  2422.
  2423. ASH
  2424. Interesting combination of elements
2425. making it one tough little son-of-

  2450. You just broke it.
  2451.
  2452. ASH
2453. What would you have done with Kane...
2454. His only chance at staying alive
2455. was to get into the infirmary.
  2456.
  2457. RIPLEY
  2458. By breaking quarantine procedure
  2459. you risk everybody's life.
  2460.
  2461. ASH
2462. Maybe I should have let him die

  2465. willing to take.
  2466.

  2575. (looks to Ripley)
  2576. You okay.
  2577.
  2578. RIPLEY
  2579. Yeah.
  2580.
2581. She carefully touches the Creature with a metal probe.
2582. Fishes the motionless life-form into the tray.
  2583. Quickly closes the lid.
2584. Lifts it onto a stainless steel table.
2585. Bright light trained on the Alien.
2586. The Creature in a supine position.
2587. Ash touches at the Alien with a surgical instrument.
  2588.
  2589. ASH
2590. Look at those suckers. No wonder
2591. we couldn't get it off him.
  2592.
  2593. RIPLEY
  2594. Where's its mouth.
  2595.
  2596. ASH
  2597. It's this tube-thing, up in
  2598. here.
  2599. (carefully extracts
2600. the end of the organ)
  2601. It's hardening.
  2602. (slips the Creature
  2603. under a fluoroscope)
2604. It's dead. No life sign whatever.
  2605.
  2606. RIPLEY
2607. Let's get rid of it.
  2608.
  2609. ASH
2610. This has to go back. This is
2611. our first contact with a
2612. specimen like this. All kinds
2613. of tests need to be run.
  2614.
  2615. RIPLEY
2616. That thing bled acid. God
2617. knows what it'll do when
  2618. it's dead.
  2619.
  2620. ASH
  2621. I think it's safe to assume
  2622. it's not a zombie... Dallas, we
2623. have to keep this specimen.
  2624.
  2625. Pause.
  2626.
  2627. DALLAS
  2628. You're the science officer. It's
  2629. your decision.
  2630.
  2631. ASH
  2632. Then it's made... I'll seal it
  2633. in a stasis tube.
  2634.
  2635. Pause.
  2636.
  2637. RIPLEY
  2638. What about Kane.
  2639.
2640. Ash turns back to the bunk.
2641. Studies the life support gauges.
2642. Kane continues to breathe steadily.
  2643.
  2644. ASH
2645. Running a fever. And still
  2646. unconscious. The machine will
  2647. bring his temperature down.
2648. His vital functions are strong...
2649. who knows, he may make it.
  2650.
2651. Ash begins to seal the Alien in a large vacuum tube.
  2652.
  2653. RIPLEY
  2654. I need some coffee.
  2655.
2656. She turns and walks away.
  2657.
  2658. INT. COMPUTER ANNEX
  2659.
  2660. Ripley and Dallas.
  2661.
  2662. RIPLEY
2663. How could you leave that kind
  2664. of decision to him.
  2665.
  2666. DALLAS
2667. I just run the ship. Anything
2668. that has to do with science
2669. division, Ash has the final word.
  2670.
  2671. RIPLEY
  2672. How does that happen.
  2673.
  2674. DALLAS
2675. Same way everything else happens.
  2676. Orders from the Company.
  2677.
  2678. RIPLEY
2679. Since when is that standard
  2680. procedure.
  2681.
  2682. DALLAS
2683. Standard procedure is do what
2684. they tell you... Besides, I only
2685. know about flying... I haul cargo
  2686. for a living.
  2687.
  2688. RIPLEY
2689. Did you ship out with Ash before.
  2690.
  2691. DALLAS
2692. First time. I went five hauls
2693. with another science man. Then
2694. two days before we left Thedus,
  2695. replaced him with Ash.
  2696.
  2697. She looks at him.
  2698.
  2699. DALLAS
2700. So what. They replaced my
  2701. warrant officer with you.
  2702.
  2703. RIPLEY
  2704. I don't trust him.
  2705.
  2706. DALLAS
  2707. I don't trust anybody...What's
  2708. holding up repairs.
  2709.
  2710. RIPLEY
2711. They're pretty much finished now.
  2712.
  2713. DALLAS
2714. Why didn't you say so?
  2715.
  2716. RIPLEY
2717. There are still some thing left
  2718. to do.
  2719.
  2720. DALLAS
  2721. Like what?
  2722.
  2723. RIPLEY
  2724. We're blind on B and C decks.
  2725. Reserve power systems blown...
  2726.
  2727. DALLAS
2728. That's crap. We can take off
  2729. without them.
  2730.
  2731. RIPLEY
2732. Is that a good idea.
  2733.
  2734. DALLAS
2735. I want to get out of here.

  2926.
  2927. Parker turns to Brett.
  2928.

  2948.
  2949. DALLAS
  2950. Thrill me.
  2951.
  2952. LAMBERT
  2953. According to my calculations...
2954. based on the time spent getting
2955. to and from the planet and the
2956. speed at which it's moving away
  2957. from the other...
  2958.
  2959. DALLAS
2960. Give me the short version...
  2961.

  2978. Dallas.
  2979.
  2980. ASH
  2981. (voice over)
2982. Come and see Kane right away...
  2983.
  2984. DALLAS
2985. Any change in his condition.
  2986.
  2987. ASH
  2988. (voice over)
2989. It's simpler if you just come
  2990. see him.
  2991.

  2999. Kane...Are you all right.
  3000.
  3001. KANE
  3002. Mouth's dry...can I have some
  3003. water.
  3004.
3005. Instantly, Ash brings him a plastic cup and water.
3006. Kane gulps it down in a swallow.
  3007.
  3008. KANE
  3009. More.
  3010.
3011. Ripley quickly fills a much bigger container.
  3012. Hands it to Kane.
3013. He greedily consumes the entire contents.
3014. Then sags back, panting, on the bunk.
  3015.
  3016. DALLAS
  3017. How do you feel.
  3018.
  3019. KANE
3020. Terrible. What happened to me.
  3021.
  3022. ASH
  3023. You don't remember.
  3024.
  3025. KANE
  3026. Don't remember anything. I can
  3027. barely remember my name.
  3028.
  3029. PARKER
  3030. Do you hurt.
  3031.
  3032. KANE
3033. All over. Feel like somebody's
3034. been beating me with a stick
  3035. for about six years.
  3036. (smiles)
  3037. God, I'm hungry.
  3038.
  3039. RIPLEY
3040. What's the last thing you can
  3041. remember.
  3042.
  3043. KANE
  3044. I don't know.
  3045.
  3046. DALLAS
3047. Do you remember what happened
  3048. on the planet.
  3049.
  3050. KANE
  3051. Just some horrible dream
  3052. about smothering. Where
  3053. are we.
  3054.
  3055. RIPLEY
3056. We're on our way home.
  3057.
  3058. BRETT
3059. Getting ready to go back into
  3060. the freezers.
  3061.
  3062. KANE
  3063. I'm starving. I want some food
  3064. first.
  3065.
  3066. PARKER
  3067. I'm pretty hungry myself.
  3068.
  3069. DALLAS
  3070. One meal before bed.
  3071.
  3072. INT. MESS

3076. The cat eats from a dish on the table.
  3077.
  3078. KANE
3079. First thing I'm going to do when
3080. we get back is eat some decent
  3081. food.
  3082.
  3083. PARKER
3084. I've had worse than this, but
3085. I've had better too, if you know
  3086. what I mean.
  3087.
  3088. LAMBERT
3089. Christ, you're pounding down this
3090. stuff like there's no tomorrow.
  3091.
  3092. Pause.
  3093.
  3094. PARKER
  3095. I mean I like it.
  3096.
  3097. KANE
  3098. No kidding.
  3099.
  3100. PARKER
3101. Yeah. It grows on you.
  3102.
  3103. KANE
3104. It should. You know what they
3105. make this stuff out of...
  3106.
  3107. PARKER
3108. I know what they make it out of.
  3109. So what. It's food now. You're
  3110. eating it.
  3111.
  3112. Suddenly Kane grimaces.
  3113.
  3114. RIPLEY
  3115. What's wrong.
  3116.
  3117. Kane's voice strains.
  3118.
  3119. LAMBERT
  3120. What's the matter.
  3121.
  3122. KANE
  3123. I don't know... I'm getting cramps.
  3124.
3125. The others stare at him in alarm.
3126. Suddenly he makes a loud groaning noise.
3127. Clutches the edge of the table with his hands.
  3128. Knuckles whitening.
  3129.
  3130. ASH
  3131. Breathe deeply.
  3132.
  3133. Kane screams.
  3134.
  3135. KANE
3136. Oh God, it hurts so bad.
  3137. It hurts. It hurts.
  3138. (stands up)
  3139. Ooooooh.
  3140.
  3141. BRETT
3142. What is it. What hurts.
  3143.
3144. Kane's face screws into a mask of agony.
3145. He falls back into his chair.
  3146.
  3147. KANE
  3148. Ohmygooaaaahh.
  3149.
  3150. A red stain.
3151. Then a smear of blood blossoms on his chest.
3152. The fabric of his shirt is ripped apart.
3153. A small head the size of a man's fist pushes out.
3154. The crew shouts in panic.
3155. Leap back from the table.
3156. The cat spits, bolts away.
3157. The tiny head lunges forward.
3158. Comes spurting out of Kane's chest trailing a thick body.
3159. Splatters fluids and blood in its wake.
3160. Lands in the middle of the dishes and food.
3161. Wriggles away while the crew scatters.
3162. Then the Alien being disappears from sight.
3163. Kane lies slumped in his chair.
  3164. Very dead.
3165. A huge hole in his chest.
  3166. The dishes are scattered.
  3167. Food covered with blood.
  3168.
  3169. LAMBERT
3170. No, no, no, no, no.
  3171.
  3172. BRETT
3173. What was that. What the Christ
  3174. was that.
  3175.
  3176. PARKER
3177. It was growing in him the whole
3178. time and he didn't even know it.
  3179.
  3180. ASH
3181. It used him for an incubator.
  3182.
  3183. RIPLEY
3184. That means we've got another
  3185. one.
  3186.
  3187. DALLAS
3188. Yeah. And it's loose on the
  3189. ship.
  3190.
3191. Slowly they gather around Kane's gutted corpse.
3192. Then they all look at one another.
  3193. Then at Kane.
  3194. Dead on the table.
  3195.
  3196. INT. CORRIDOR - "A" DECK
  3197.

3200. They join Ash, Lambert, Ripley and Dallas.
  3201.
  3202. DALLAS
  3203. Any signs.
  3204.
  3205. LAMBERT
  3206. Nothing.
  3207.
  3208. ASH
  3209. Nothing.
  3210.
  3211. PARKER
  3212. Didn't see a goddamn thing.
  3213.
  3214. BRETT
  3215. Didn't see anything.
  3216.
  3217. RIPLEY
3218. We can't go into hypersleep with
3219. that thing running loose. We'd
3220. be sitting ducks in the freezers.
3221. We have to kill it first.
  3222.
  3223. LAMBERT
3224. We can't kill it. If we do, it
3225. will spill its body acids right
  3226. through the hull...
  3227.
  3228. BRETT
  3229. Son-of-a-bitch.
  3230.
  3231. RIPLEY
3232. We have to catch it and eject
  3233. it from the ship.
  3234.
  3235. ASH
3236. Our supplies are based on us
3237. spending a limited amount of
3238. time out of suspended animation.
  3239. Strictly limited.
  3240.
  3241. RIPLEY
3242. First we have to find it.
  3243.
  3244. DALLAS
3245. No. First we've got something
  3246. else to do.
  3247.
3248. He looks at Kane's body through mess doorway.
  3249.
  3250. INT. AIR LOCK
  3251.
3252. Kane's body wrapped in a makeshift shroud.
  3253.
  3254. INT. BRIDGE
  3255.
3256. The crew looking at Kane's body on view screens.
  3257. Silent.
  3258. Depressed.
  3259.
  3260. DALLAS
  3261. Inner hatch sealed.
  3262.
  3263. Ripley nods.
  3264.
  3265. DALLAS
3266. Anybody want to say anything.
  3267.
  3268. Nothing to say.
  3269. He nods to Ripley.
  3270. She presses a button.
  3271.
  3272. INT. AIR LOCK
  3273.
  3274. The outer hatch opens.
  3275. Yawning space outside.
3276. Kane's body shoots out into eternity.
  3277. The hatch closes.
  3278.
  3279. INT. MESS
  3280.
  3281. The crew is assembled.
  3282.
  3283. RIPLEY
3284. I've checked on the supplies.
3285. For about a week we can stay
  3286. out of hypersleep.
  3287.
  3288. BRETT
  3289. Then what.
  3290.
  3291. LAMBERT
3292. We run out of food and oxygen.
  3293.
  3294. DALLAS
  3295. All right, that's what we've got.
  3296. A week. It's plenty of time.
  3297.
  3298. PARKER
3299. I say we put on our pressure
3300. suits and blow all the air out
3301. of the ship. That might kill it.
  3302.
  3303. LAMBERT
  3304. What a swell idea.
  3305.
  3306. PARKER
  3307. What's wrong with it.
  3308.
  3309. ASH
  3310. We've got forty-eight hours of
3311. air in our pressure suits and
3312. it takes six months to get home.
  3313.
  3314. LAMBERT
3315. Other than that...A swell idea.
  3316.
3317. Parker won't give up on this idea.
  3318.
  3319. PARKER
3320. Maybe we could cut some kind
3321. of special lines to the tanks.
3322. Brett and I are pretty good
  3323. practical engineers...We got
3324. us back up you know.
  3325.
  3326. RIPLEY
  3327. All by yourselves.
  3328.
  3329. ASH
3330. I hate to point this out but
3331. it might be better off without
3332. oxygen. It lived that way long
  3333. enough.
  3334.
  3335. RIPLEY
  3336. There's another problem. How
3337. do we find it. There's no
3338. visual communication on B and
3339. C decks. All the screens are
  3340. out.
  3341.
  3342. DALLAS
3343. We're going to have to flush it
  3344. out.
  3345.
  3346. ASH
  3347. Sounds great...but how.
  3348.
  3349. DALLAS
3350. Room by room, corridor by corridor.
  3351.
3352. One of those suggestions that nobody likes.
  3353.
  3354. LAMBERT
3355. And what do we do when we find it.
  3356.
  3357. RIPLEY
  3358. Trap it somehow.
  3359.
  3360. BRETT
3361. If we had a really strong piece
3362. of net, we could bag it... I could
3363. put something together. A long
3364. metal rod with a battery in it.
3365. Only take a few hours.
  3366.
  3367. LAMBERT
3368. Why do we listen to this meathead.
  3369.
  3370. Dallas turns it over.
  3371.
  3372. DALLAS
  3373. He might be right...
  3374.
  3375. EXT. OUTER SPACE
  3376.
3377. The Nostromo continues through the vortex.
  3378.
  3379. INT. INFIRMARY
  3380.
  3381. Dallas enters.
  3382. Ash working at a read-out section.
  3383.
  3384. DALLAS
  3385. I want to talk.
  3386.
  3387. ASH
  3388. I'm a little busy at the
  3389. moment.
  3390.
  3391. Pause.
  3392.
  3393. DALLAS
  3394. I don't care.
  3395.
  3396. Pause.
  3397.
  3398. ASH
  3399. All right, go ahead.
  3400.
  3401. DALLAS
3402. Why did you let the Alien survive
  3403. inside Kane.
  3404.
  3405. ASH
  3406. I'm not sure you're getting
  3407. through to me.
  3408.
  3409. DALLAS
3410. Mother was monitoring his body.
3411. You were monitoring Mother. You
3412. must have had some idea of what
  3413. was going on.
  3414.
  3415. ASH
3416. What are you trying to say.
  3417.
  3418. A long moment.
  3419.
  3420. DALLAS
3421. You want the Alien to stay alive
  3422. ...I figure you have a reason.
  3423.
  3424. ASH
  3425. Name one.
  3426.
  3427. DALLAS
3428. Look, we both work for the same
3429. company. I just want to know
  3430. what's going on.
  3431.
  3432. ASH
  3433. I don't know what the hell you're
  3434. talking about. And I don't like
3435. any of the insinuations. The
3436. Alien is a dangerous form of
  3437. life...I don't want it to stay
3438. alive any more than you do.
  3439.
  3440. DALLAS
  3441. You're sure.
  3442.
  3443. ASH
3444. Yeah, I'm sure. You should be
  3445. too.
  3446.
  3447. Dallas walks out.
  3448. Ash watches him go.
3449. Stares in his direction a long while...
  3450.
  3451. INT. NARCISSUS
  3452.
3453. Dallas seated in the shuttle craft.
3454. Staring at the myriad lights of outer space.
  3455. Ripley climbs beside him.
  3456.
  3457. RIPLEY
  3458. I thought I'd find you here.
  3459.
  3460. Dallas continues to stare.
  3461.
  3462. DALLAS
  3463. Are the nets finished.
  3464.
  3465. Pause.
  3466.
  3467. RIPLEY
  3468. We've got an hour...Look I
  3469. need some relief.
  3470.
  3471. DALLAS
3472. Why did you wait until now.
  3473.
  3474. Ripley leans forward.
  3475.
  3476. RIPLEY
3477. Let me tell you something. You
3478. keep staring out there long
3479. enough, they'll be peeling you
  3480. off the wall.
  3481.
3482. Ripley begins taking off her boots.
  3483.
  3484. DALLAS
3485. We're the new pioneers, Ripley.
3486. We even get to have our own
  3487. special disease.
  3488.
  3489. RIPLEY
  3490. I'm tired of talking.
  3491.
3492. She rises and removes her upper garments.
  3493.
  3494. DALLAS
  3495. You waited too long.
  3496.
  3497. RIPLEY
3498. Give it a try anyway.
  3499.
  3500. Clothing removed.
3501. His arms move around her.
  3502.
  3503. INT. BRIDGE
  3504.
  3505. The crew has assembled.
3506. Brett unfolds several yards of asbestos netting.
3507. Hands out five thin rods.
3508. Each of them like metal broom handles.
  3509.
  3510. BRETT
3511. I put portable generators in
3512. each of these. They're insulated
3513. down here. Just be goddamn careful
3514. not to get your hand on the end.
  3515.
3516. He touches the tip to a metal object.
  3517. A blue spark leaps.
  3518.
  3519. BRETT
3520. It won't damage the little bastard
3521. unless its skin is a lot thinner
  3522. than ours...It'll just give it a
  3523. little incentive.
  3524.
  3525. LAMBERT
3526. Now if we could only find it.
  3527.
3528. Ash picks up a portable unit.
  3529.
  3530. ASH
  3531. I've taken care of that...tracking
3532. device. You set it to search for
  3533. a moving object...It hasn't much
3534. range but when you get within a
3535. certain distance it starts beeping.
  3536.
3537. Ripley takes the tracker from Ash's hand.
  3538.
  3539. RIPLEY
  3540. What's it key on.
  3541.
  3542. ASH
3543. Micro changes in air density.
3544. Keep it pointed ahead of you.
  3545.
  3546. DALLAS
3547. We'll break into two teams.
3548. Whoever finds it first catches
3549. it in the net and ejects it
3550. from the nearest air lock.
  3551. (pause)
3552. For starters, let's make sure
  3553. the bridge is safe.
  3554.
3555. Parker turns on his unit.
3556. Scans it around the room.
  3557.
  3558. LAMBERT
3559. We seem to be okay...If this
  3560. damn thing works.
  3561.
  3562. DALLAS
3563. Ash and myself will go with
3564. Lambert. Brett and Parker will
3565. make up the second team. Ripley,
  3566. you command it.
  3567.
3568. They start doling out the equipment.
  3569.
  3570. DALLAS
3571. Channels are open on all decks.
3572. We'll be in constant touch.
  3573.
  3574. INT. PASSAGEWAY - "A" LEVEL
  3575.
3576. Lambert and Dallas carry the net.
3577. Ash walks directly behind, carrying the tracking device.
3578. He continually scans from side to side.
3579. Lambert stops by a stairwell.
  3580.
  3581. LAMBERT
  3582. Anything down there.
  3583.
  3584. INT. ANOTHER PASSAGEWAY - "B" LEVEL
  3585.
3586. Parker and Ripley move silently along.
3587. Ripley ahead of them with the tracker by the stairwell.
  3588.
  3589. RIPLEY
  3590. Nothing.
  3591.
  3592. The move on.
  3593. A small light flashes.
  3594.
  3595. RIPLEY
3596. Hold it. I've got something.
  3597.
3598. Parker and Brett grow tense.
  3599. Start looking around.
  3600.
  3601. BRETT
  3602. Where's it coming from.
  3603.
3604. Ripley peers closely at the tracker.
  3605.
  3606. RIPLEY
  3607. Machine's screwed up. I can't
  3608. tell. Needle's spinning all
  3609. over the dial.
  3610.
  3611. BRETT
  3612. Goddamn, malfunction.
  3613.
3614. Ripley turns the tracker on its side.
  3615. The needles stabilize.
  3616.
  3617. RIPLEY
  3618. No, just confused. It's
  3619. coming from below us.
  3620.
3621. They all look down at their feet.
  3622.
  3623. INT. MAINTENANCE - "C" LEVEL
  3624.
3625. Ripley, Parker and Brett come down ladder onto an endless
  3626. oily corridor.
3627. They stop at the foot of the companionway...
3628. They move down corridor into darkness.
  3629.
  3630. RIPLEY
  3631. Okay.
  3632.
  3633. Looks at the tracker.
3634. Nods down the passageway. Stops.
  3635.
  3636. RIPLEY
  3637. Back this way.
  3638.
3639. They begin to walk in that direction.
3640. Entering drab section of the ship.
  3641. Surrounded by deep shadows.
3642. Footsteps clanging on the metal deck.
  3643.
  3644. RIPLEY
  3645. I thought you fixed 12 module.
  3646.
  3647. BRETT
  3648. We did.
  3649.
  3650. PARKER
3651. Circuits must have burned out.
  3652.
  3653. They switch on lights.
  3654. Move around two turns.
  3655.
  3656. RIPLEY
  3657. Wait.
  3658.
3659. They stop quickly, almost stumbling.
  3660.
  3661. RIPLEY
  3662. It's within five meters.
  3663.
3664. Parker and Brett heft the net.
3665. Ripley has the prod in one hand, tracker in the other.
  3666. Moves with great care.
3667. Almost in a half-crouch, ready to leap back.
3668. Prod extended, Ripley constantly glances at her tracker.
3669. The device leads her up to a small hatch in the bulkhead.
3670. Perspiration rivers down her face.
3671. She sets aside the tracker.
3672. Raises the prod, grasps the hatch handle.
  3673. Yanks it open.
3674. Jams the electric prod inside.
  3675. A nerve-shattering squall.
3676. Then a small creature comes flying out of the locker.
  3677. Eyes glaring, claws flashing.
3678. Instinctively, they throw the net over it.
  3679. Very annoyed.
3680. They open the net and release the captive.
3681. Which happens to be the cat.
3682. Hissing and spitting...it scampers away.
  3683.
  3684. RIPLEY
  3685. God damn it...hold it.
  3686.
  3687. PARKER
3688. We should have killed it...Now
3689. we might pick it up on the
  3690. tracker again.
  3691.
  3692. RIPLEY
3693. Go get it. We'll go on.
  3694.
  3695. BRETT
  3696. Right.
  3697.
3698. Ripley and Parker move down the passageway.
3699. Brett follows the direction taken by the cat.
3700. Moves across passageway into equipment maintenance area.
  3701.
3702. INT. EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE AREA - "C" LEVEL
  3703.
3704. Brett walking between rows of shadowed equipment.
  3705. Looking for the cat.
  3706. Nervous.
  3707.
  3708. BRETT
  3709. Jones...Here kitty...Jones...
  3710. Goddamn it Jones.
  3711.
  3712. Scratching noises.
  3713. A reassuring cat yowl.
  3714. Brett moves on.
  3715.
  3716. INT. PASSAGEWAY - "C" LEVEL
  3717.
3718. Ripley and Parker walk along.
  3719. Tracker signal weakens.
  3720. Finally stops.
  3721.
  3722. RIPLEY
  3723. Nothing here.
  3724.
  3725. PARKER
  3726. Let's go back.
  3727.
  3728. INT. UNDERCARRIAGE ROOM - "C" LEVEL
  3729.
  3730. Brett enters.
  3731. Still looking for Jones.
3732. Another yowl followed by a hiss.
3733. Two eyes shining in the dark.
  3734. Jones.
3735. Relieved, Brett moves toward the cat.
  3736.
  3737. BRETT
  3738. Here kitty...Come on Jones.
  3739.
  3740. Brett reaches for Jones.
  3741. Jones hisses.
3742. An arm reaches for Brett.
  3743. The Alien.
  3744. Now seven feet tall.
3745. Hanging from the undercarriage strut in reverse position.
3746. Grabs Brett and swings up into darkness.
  3747. Brett screams.
  3748. To no avail...
3749. In the doorway Ripley and Parker.
  3750. They witness the horror.
  3751.
  3752. INT. MESS
  3753.
  3754. The remaining crew assemble.
  3755. Long faces.
  3756.
  3757. LAMBERT
  3758. Now what.
  3759.
  3760. PARKER
3761. Blast the rotten bastard with
3762. a laser and take our chances.
  3763.
  3764. RIPLEY
3765. No. At its present size it's
3766. holding enough acid to tear a
3767. hole in this ship as big as this
  3768. room.
  3769.
  3770. ASH
  3771. It wouldn't do any good. It's
  3772. self-regenerating. You saw that
3773. when we operated on it.
  3774.
  3775. RIPLEY
3776. The only plan that's going to
3777. work is the same one we had
3778. before. Drive it into an air
3779. lock and blow it out into space.
  3780.
  3781. PARKER
  3782. Drive it...The son-of-a-bitch
  3783. is huge.
  3784.
  3785. LAMBERT
3786. For once he has a point. How
  3787. do we drive it.
  3788.
  3789. RIPLEY
  3790. The science department should
  3791. be able to help...
  3792.
  3793. ASH
  3794. According to Mother, he's a
  3795. primitive form of encephlepod...
  3796.
  3797. LAMBERT
  3798. How come it's a he.
  3799.
  3800. ASH
3801. Just a phrase. As a matter of
3802. fact he's both, bisexual or
  3803. hermaphrodite to be precise.
  3804.
  3805. DALLAS
3806. Skip its sex life. How do
  3807. we kill it.
  3808.
  3809. ASH
3810. It seems to have adapted to
  3811. an oxygen-rich atmosphere and
3812. it's certainly adapted well for
  3813. its nutritional requirements.
3814. The only thing we don't know
  3815. about is temperature.
  3816.
  3817. RIPLEY
  3818. Curious isn't it...That the
  3819. Alien is an encephlepod...
  3820.
  3821. ASH
3822. What's so curious about that.
  3823.
  3824. RIPLEY
  3825. It's curious because lower
3826. species can't adapt as quickly
3827. as higher ones. And this one's
3828. doing very well. A real survivor.
3829. Might even have as good a chance
  3830. as we do.
  3831.
  3832. ASH
  3833. You're getting paranoid again.
  3834.
  3835. RIPLEY
3836. All right. What about the
  3837. temperature. What happens
  3838. if we change it.
  3839.
  3840. ASH
  3841. Let's give it a try. Most
  3842. animals retreat from fire.
  3843.
  3844. Pause.
  3845.
  3846. PARKER
3847. I can hook up a couple of
  3848. incinerating units in about
  3849. fifteen minutes.
  3850.
  3851. Pause.
  3852.
  3853. DALLAS
3854. Anybody got any better ideas.
  3855.
  3856. Nobody does.
  3857.
  3858. DALLAS
  3859. Okay. When Parker's ready,
3860. we'll work our way back down
  3861. to 'C' deck.
  3862.
  3863. EXT. OUTER SPACE
  3864.
3865. Nostromo at light plus four.
  3866.
  3867. INT. PASSAGEWAY - "B" LEVEL
  3868.
  3869. Parker and Dallas lead.
  3870. Armed with flamethrowers.
  3871. They descend from companionway.
3872. Suddenly both tracking devices beep frantically.
3873. Sound of rending metal up ahead.
  3874. The move forward cautiously.
  3875.
  3876. DALLAS
3877. It's in that food locker.
  3878.
3879. EXT. FOOD LOCKER NUMBER 12
  3880.
  3881. More rending noises.
  3882.
  3883. LAMBERT
3884. Jesus. It must be huge.
  3885.
  3886. PARKER
3887. It's got to be using the
  3888. airshafts to move around...
  3889.
  3890. Dallas raises flamethrower.
  3891.
  3892. DALLAS
3893. Do these things really work.
  3894.
  3895. PARKER
  3896. I made them didn't I.
  3897.
  3898. RIPLEY
  3899. That's what worries me.
  3900.
  3901. Dallas indicates door handle.
  3902. Parker reluctantly takes it.
  3903.
  3904. DALLAS
  3905. Now.
  3906.
  3907. Parker wrenches open door.
3908. Dallas fires a long blast. Another.
  3909. Another and another...Silence.
  3910. They move inside...
  3911.
3912. INT. FOOD STORAGE LOCKER NUMBER 12 - "B" LEVEL
  3913.
  3914. Charred wreckage.
3915. Packages have been ripped to shreds.
3916. Foodstuffs scattered over the floor.
3917. Carefully, they poke through the smouldering garbage.
  3918.
  3919. RIPLEY
  3920. We didn't get him.
  3921.
  3922. DALLAS
3923. This is where he went.
  3924.
3925. On the wall, a ventilator grill has been ripped open.
3926. They move to the shredded ventilator.
3927. Shine their lights inside the shaft.
  3928.
  3929. DALLAS
3930. This could work for us. The
3931. duct comes out at the starboard
3932. air lock. There's an exit on
3933. the way. But we can close that
3934. off. Then we drive it into the
3935. air lock and blast it into space.
  3936.
  3937. LAMBERT
3938. Yeah. All you have to do is
3939. crawl in the vent with it, find
3940. your way through the maze and
3941. hope it's afraid of fire.
  3942.
  3943. DALLAS
3944. Well Parker, you wanted an
  3945. equal share...
  3946.
  3947. PARKER
  3948. Yeah.
  3949.
  3950. DALLAS
  3951. Get in the pipe.
  3952.
  3953. PARKER
  3954. Why me.
  3955.
  3956. DALLAS
3957. I just wanted to see you get
  3958. your full share.
  3959.
  3960. PARKER
  3961. No way.
  3962.
  3963. RIPLEY
  3964. I'll go.
  3965.
  3966. DALLAS
3967. Forget it. You take the
3968. air lock. Parker and Lambert
  3969. cover the exit.
  3970.
3971. No doubt as to who's going inside the vent.
  3972.
3973. INT. STARBOARD AIR LOCK - VESTIBULE
  3974.
  3975. Ripley stands in vestibule.
3976. Looks through the Bulkhead door to air lock.
  3977. She throws a switch.
3978. Watches airshaft entrance into air lock open.
  3979. The trap is ready.
  3980.
  3981. INT. MAINTENANCE LEVEL
  3982.
3983. Parker and Lambert get set.

3985. INT. FOOD STORAGE LOCKER NUMBER 12 - "B" LEVEL
  3986.
3987. Ash hands Dallas the makeshift flamethrower.
3988. He fires a couple of short bursts.
  3989.
  3990. DALLAS
  3991. It's still working.
  3992.
  3993. ASH
3994. Why do you have to go. Why
  3995. didn't you sent Ripley.
  3996.
  3997. DALLAS
  3998. It's my responsibility. I let
3999. Kane go into the craft. Now
  4000. it's my turn.
  4001.
  4002. ASH
  4003. You're the captain. It'll be
4004. harder on the rest of us, if
  4005. we lose you.
  4006.
  4007. DALLAS
  4008. Nothing I do that Ripley can't.
  4009.
  4010. ASH
  4011. I don't agree.
  4012.
  4013. DALLAS
  4014. The decision is final.
  4015.
4016. He removes the master computer key.
  4017. Hands it to Ash.
  4018.
  4019. DALLAS
  4020. If I don't take it back,
  4021. Ripley will need this.
  4022.
  4023. Ash nods.
4024. Dallas turns and climbs into the ventilator opening.
4025. Just large enough to crawl through.

  4033. DALLAS
4034. Do you receive me. Ripley.
  4035. Parker. Lambert.
  4036.
  4037. INT. EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE AREA
  4038.
4039. The hum of vast cooling plants.
4040. Large air shafts run off in different directions.
4041. Parker and Lambert stand ready by a duct.
4042. Lambert hits the wall amp button.
  4043.
  4044. LAMBERT
  4045. We're in position. I'll try
4046. and pick you up on the tracker.
  4047.
  4048. Parker hefts his flamethrower.
  4049.
  4050. DALLAS
  4051. (voice over)
4052. Parker, if it tries to come
4053. out by you, make sure you drive
4054. it back in. I'll push it forward.
  4055.
  4056. PARKER
  4057. Right.
  4058.
  4059. INT. AIR LOCK VESTIBULE

4063. The air lock now open and ready.
4064. She moves to the air duct opening.
  4065.
  4066. RIPLEY
  4067. Air lock open.
  4068.
  4069. DALLAS
  4070. (voice over)

  4075.
  4076. INT. AIR SHAFT
  4077.
4078. Dallas begins to crawl forward.
  4079. The tunnel is narrow...
4080. Only a foot or two wider than his shoulders.
  4081.
  4082. DALLAS
  4083. I'm under way.
  4084.
  4085. Turns a corner.
  4086. Several more tight turns.
  4087. Instinctively Dallas pulls back.
  4088. Raises the flamethrower.
4089. Fires a blast around the corner into the darkness.
4090. It roars loudly in the confined tube.
4091. Smoke drifts back into his face.

  4098. That's where it's got to come
4099. out, if it leaves the main shaft.
  4100.
  4101. He throws a switch.
4102. A metal pane rises and seals off the opening.
  4103.
  4104. LAMBERT
  4105. Let's keep it open. I'd like
4106. to know if anything's coming.
  4107.
4108. Reluctantly, Parker again throws the switch and raises the
  4109. metal pane.

4125. Lambert sees something on the tracker.

  4153.
  4154. INT. AIR SHAFT
  4155.
  4156. DALLAS
  4157. I don't think this shaft goes
4158. much farther... It's getting hot
  4159. in here.
  4160.
  4161. He readies the flamethrower.

  4174. Sits.
  4175.
4176. His feet dangle beneath the catwalk floor to the next level.
  4177.

4192. INT. AIR SHAFT DOUBLE-TIERED PASSAGEWAY
  4193.
  4194. Dallas sitting.

  4201. Dallas begins to rise.
4202. From below, a gentle movement toward the hanging feet.
  4203. A hand reaches up.
4204. Misses his leg as Dallas moves ahead.
  4205.
  4206. Further on.
  4207.
  4208. DALLAS
4209. Lambert, am I coming in any
  4210. clearer.
  4211.
  4212. LAMBERT
  4213. (voice over)
  4214. It's clear all right, but I'm
  4215. still getting two blips.
  4216. (pause)
4217. I'm not sure which one is
  4218. which.
  4219.
  4220. Dallas stops.
  4221. Turns around.
4222. Looks back down through the catwalk.
4223. Lowers the nose of the flamethrower, his finger on the

4225. From behind him, the hand reaches up.
4226. The Alien is the front signal.
  4227.
  4228. INT. AIR LOCK VESTIBULE

  4233. She cries out.
  4234.
  4235. RIPLEY
  4236. Dallas...Dallas...

  4243. RIPLEY
  4244. (voice over)
  4245. Oh my God.
  4246.
  4247. Then silence.
  4248.
  4249. INT. MESS
  4250.
4251. Dallas' flamethrower on the table surface.
  4252.
  4253. PARKER
  4254. (voice over)
4255. We just found it laying there.
4256. No sign of him. Only a hole
4257. torn through to the central
  4258. cooling complex.
  4259.
4260. The remaining crew standing at the table.
  4261.
  4262. RIPLEY
4263. This puts me in command.
  4264.
  4265. PARKER
  4266. Okay.
  4267.
4268. For the first time he's dropped his bullshit.
  4269.
  4270. RIPLEY
  4271. Unless someone's got a better
4272. idea about dealing with the
4273. Alien, we'll continue with the
  4274. last plan.
  4275.
  4276. Silence.
  4277.
  4278. RIPLEY
  4279. How are our weapons.
  4280.
  4281. PARKER
  4282. They're working fine...We could
4283. use more fuel for that one.
  4284.
  4285. Indicating Dallas' flamethrower.
  4286.
  4287. RIPLEY
  4288. Get it.
  4289.
  4290. PARKER
  4291. Right.
  4292.
  4293. He leaves.
  4294. Ripley turns to Ash.
  4295.
  4296. RIPLEY
4297. Any ideas. From you or Mother.
  4298.
  4299. ASH
4300. Nothing new. Just the one
  4301. you're operating under.
  4302.
  4303. RIPLEY
4304. You mean to tell me with
  4305. everything we've got, we're
  4306. still powerless against the
  4307. Beast.
  4308.
  4309. ASH
4310. That's the way it looks.
  4311.
  4312. RIPLEY
  4313. I can't believe that.
  4314.
  4315. ASH
4316. I'm sorry captain. what would
4317. you like me to do.
  4318.
  4319. RIPLEY
4320. Go back to Mother and keep
  4321. asking questions until you
  4322. get some better answers.
  4323.
  4324. ASH
  4325. All right...I'll try.
  4326.
  4327. He starts to go.
  4328.
  4329. RIPLEY
4330. Dallas didn't leave the master
  4331. computer key with you.
  4332.
  4333. ASH
  4334. You didn't get it.
  4335.
  4336. RIPLEY
  4337. No.
  4338.
  4339. ASH
4340. Well, we probably won't need
  4341. it anyway.
  4342.
  4343. He leaves.
  4344.
  4345. RIPLEY
4346. I know Ash has got the key.
  4347.
  4348. LAMBERT
  4349. Why should he lie.
  4350.
  4351. RIPLEY
4352. He knows I want to check up on
  4353. him...Without that key we've got
4354. no access to command priority
  4355. information.
  4356.
  4357. LAMBERT
  4358. Swell.
  4359.

  4375. No. What about you.
  4376.
  4377. RIPLEY
  4378. No.
  4379.
  4380. LAMBERT

  4419. Parker whispering.
  4420.
  4421. PARKER
  4422. The Alien...It's outside the

  4772.
  4773. Ash turns on him.
  4774. Starts to advance.
4775. Parker hits him again with the tracker...

  4793. The headless body collapses.
4794. Parker trying to regain his breath.

  4796. PARKER
  4797. Damn you.
  4798.
  4799. Kicks the headless body.
  4800. Lambert looks at Ripley.
  4801.
  4802. LAMBERT
  4803. Tell me...What the hell's going on.
  4804.
  4805. Pause.
  4806.
  4807. RIPLEY
4808. Let's find out. Wire him back up.
  4809.
  4810. PARKER
4811. What kind of crap is that.
  4812.
  4813. RIPLEY
  4814. Do it.
  4815.
  4816. They set to work.
4817. Begin to reassemble the wiring in Ash's head.
  4818.
  4819. RIPLEY
4820. Ash let it on board. Ash let it
4821. grow inside Kane. Ash blew the
  4822. warning signal.
  4823.
  4824. LAMBERT
  4825. Why.
  4826.
  4827. RIPLEY
  4828. Special Order 937.
  4829.
  4830. PARKER
  4831. What's that.
  4832.
  4833. RIPLEY
  4834. That's what I want to know.
  4835.
4836. Ash's head is placed on the table.
4837. His eyes flicker into consciousness.
  4838.
  4839. RIPLEY
4840. What is Special Order 937.
  4841.
  4842. ASH
4843. You know I can't tell you that.
  4844.
  4845. RIPLEY
4846. Then there's not point in talking
4847. to you. Pull the plug.
  4848.
  4849. ASH
4850. Special Order 937 in essence
4851. asked me to direct the ship to
4852. the planet, investigate a life
4853. form, possibly hostile and bring
4854. it back for observation. With
  4855. discretion, of course.
  4856.
  4857. RIPLEY
4858. Why. Why not tell us.
  4859.
  4860. ASH
  4861. Would you have gone.
  4862.
  4863. PARKER
4864. It wasn't in the contract.
  4865.
  4866. ASH
  4867. My very point.
  4868.
  4869. RIPLEY
4870. They wanted to investigate the
4871. Alien. No matter what happened
  4872. to us.
  4873.
  4874. ASH
  4875. That's unfair. Actually, you
4876. weren't mentioned in the order.
  4877.
  4878. LAMBERT
  4879. Those bastards.
  4880.
  4881. ASH
4882. See it from their point of view.
4883. They didn't know what the Alien is.
  4884.
  4885. RIPLEY
4886. How do we kill it.
  4887.
  4888. ASH
  4889. I don't think you can. Not
4890. in this ship, given its life
4891. support systems. But I might
  4892. be able to.
  4893.
  4894. RIPLEY
  4895. How.
  4896.
  4897. ASH
  4898. I don't know quite yet. I'm not
4899. exactly at my best at the moment.
  4900. If you would reconnect...
  4901.
  4902. RIPLEY
  4903. No way.
  4904.
  4905. ASH
  4906. Don't be so hasty. You'll never
4907. kill it without my help.
  4908.
  4909. RIPLEY
4910. We've had enough of your help.
  4911.
  4912. ASH
4913. You've barely got any oxygen left.
4914. If you don't go into hypersleep,
4915. you'll die with or without the
  4916. Alien.
  4917.
  4918. RIPLEY
  4919. Nice try, Ash.
  4920.
  4921. ASH
4922. I will do whatever I can to help
  4923. you. I swear it.
  4924.
  4925. PARKER
  4926. Pull the plug.
  4927.
  4928. LAMBERT
  4929. I agree.
  4930.
  4931. ASH
4932. You idiots. You still don't
4933. realize what you're dealing with.
4934. The Alien is a perfect organism.
  4935. Superbly structured, cunning,
  4936. quintessentially violent. With
4937. your limited capabilities you have
  4938. no chance against it.
  4939.
  4940. LAMBERT
  4941. You admire it.
  4942.
  4943. ASH
4944. How can one not admire perfection.
4945. I will kill it because I am
4946. programmed to protect human life
  4947. as you know.
  4948.
  4949. RIPLEY
4950. Even if you have contempt for it.
  4951.
  4952. ASH
  4953. Even then.
  4954.
  4955. Bitter and angry.
  4956.
  4957. RIPLEY
  4958. Sorry Ash. I don't buy it.
  4959.
  4960. ASH
  4961. You egocentric morons. You'll
4962. be ripped to shreds, destroyed
  4963. and...
  4964.
  4965. Ripley make a movement.
  4966. Ash softens...
  4967.
  4968. ASH
4969. I can only wish you well...
  4970.
  4971. Ripley pulls the plug.
  4972.
  4973. PARKER
4974. He was probably right. We do
  4975. need him.
  4976.
  4977. RIPLEY
  4978. He was conning us.
  4979.
  4980. LAMBERT
4981. He was programmed to protect
  4982. human life.
  4983.
  4984. RIPLEY
4985. He wasn't protecting our human
4986. lives and that's all I care about.
  4987. Anyway it's done.
  4988.
4989. Ripley exits to the bridge.

4998. We've got less than twelve
  4999. hours oxygen left.
  5000.
  5001. PARKER
  5002. It's all over.
  5003.
  5004. Gloom.
  5005.
  5006. LAMBERT
5007. I don't know about the rest of
  5008. you, but I think I prefer a
5009. painless peaceful death to any
5010. of the alternatives on offer.
  5011.
  5012. RIPLEY
  5013. We're not there yet.
  5014.
5015. Lambert holds up a small card of spansules.
  5016. Suicide pills.
  5017.
  5018. LAMBERT
  5019. We're not. Huh.
  5020.
  5021. RIPLEY
5022. I think we should blow up the
  5023. ship.
  5024.
  5025. LAMBERT
5026. I'll stick with chemicals if
  5027. you don't mind.
  5028.
  5029. RIPLEY
5030. We leave in the shuttle and
5031. then blow up the ship.

  5040.
  5041. PARKER
  5042. That's it.
  5043.
  5044. RIPLEY
5045. Now. Let's get the food, shut
5046. off the engines and get out...
  5047. Jones. Where's Jones.
  5048.
  5049. PARKER
  5050. Who knows.
  5051.
  5052. LAMBERT
5053. Last I saw him was in the mess.
  5054.
  5055. RIPLEY
5056. Go look. We don't want to leave him.
  5057.
  5058. LAMBERT
5059. I don't want to go by myself.
  5060.
  5061. PARKER
5062. Always hated that damn cat.
  5063.
  5064. RIPLEY
