    - xinwei's met his mother on multiple occasions, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's that close to her. seeing as she took off when he was still really young, she's never really been a constant figure in his life, just turning up every so often, and of course, being a goddess, that does mean that he's not going to be extremely close with her. if anything, she's more of like a distant aunt to him, that he makes small talk with whenever their paths cross, because he's not close enough with her to just talk about every small thing in his life that has happened since the last time they met. his father is more or less okay with her, but he doesn't really talk to her, and makes an effort to steer clear out of her way, as things are slightly awkward between them. this only further rubs off on xinwei, as he's not really sure how to go about the fact that his parents are extremely awkward around each other.

» | BACKGROUND:
    ◦ xinwei was born in shanghai, china, and raised by a single father for most of his life. his mother was absent for majority of his life, due to being a goddess, so it was just jingwei who raised their son. she turned up every once in a while to visit xinwei, but not often enough for her to be considered a parental figure in his life. instead, his father took on that role by himself, and did far better than all the expectations that were set upon him, as soon as jingwei's own parents and friends found out he was to take full custody of his son. xin's grandparents weren't exactly the most supportive over their son, but jingwei took it all in his stride, and raised xin into the person he is today, despite all the snide comments about adoption coming from. jingwei was only twenty years old when xin was born, and needless to say, his parents weren't pleased at the fact that he'd have to throw away his education and take care of xin when they found out that the mother wasn't exactly going to be the stay at home wife type like they'd always hoped jingwei would marry.
    ◦ instead of finding a mother figure in his actual mother, the woman who took up that role was a pretty barista by the name of wang xioali. xin's father had met the woman when xin was seven years old, and they'd immediately hit it off, and begun dating months later. at first, xinwei was very suspicious of the woman – which was understandable, given the fact that his own mother hadn't really done the whole relationship thing, and xin thought his father deserved better. however, it seemed that wang xioali knew the way to a seven year old's heart, because all it took was cookies from the cafe she worked at to get xin to open up to her, and soon enough, xiaoli became the mother figure xin had always wanted in his life. xiaoli and his father have yet to get married, despite moving in with each other, but xin wouldn't really mind much if they did decide to tie the knot. (he'd probably jump around in excitement for a bit and then straight up deny ever doing it).
    ◦ xinwei was ten years old when he found out he was a demigod. despite having met his mother on multiple occasions over the first decade of his life, no one had thought to mention that she was actually a goddess, and not a normal mortal woman. it did actually explain a lot, but xin wasn't really sure what to do with this new piece of information, because it should have been a life changer, but it didn't really make anything different, because his mother still continued to visit him on the occasion like she had before, and no one really spoke about it much either, because everyone was waiting for xin to bring it up, except he never did because he wasn't exactly sure how to go about it in a conversation. he didn't become magically close with his mother after the revelation, and if anything, he was sort of weary of her, because he knew about the concept of demigods, and it stressed him out to think that his mother probably had about a thousand other kids out there. however, his mother did make an effort to try and introduce him to some of the things he could do (which ten year old xin found really fascinating, but tried to remain cool about it).
    ◦ he'd had an interest in singing ever since he was young, and had begged to attend singing lessons, as it was one of the few things that xinwei was really passionate about. so of course, he'd always had dreams of becoming a performer or an entertainer. he didn't get into kpop until EXO debuted. when the chinese sub unit began to promote across china, it caught xin's attention, and he decided that it was something he was interested in pursuing. and being a demigod, he fit the criteria to audition for a company. naturally, he wanted to audition for SM ENTERTAINMENT first, through one of their international auditions in 2013, and after weeks of begging (and a bit of input from xioali) jingwei finally agreed to let his son go. he was accepted into the company, as they believed he had promising vocal talent. but xin still struggled a lot with trainee life, because it id definitely not easy for a newly turned teenager to be in a foreign country where they barely speak the language all on their own, and be put through the vigorous idol training. eventually, it all proved to be too much for xin, under a company as large and strict as sm, and he was dropped from the company, leaving xin devastated. his father flew over to korea to try and cheer up his only son about being dropped by the entertainment company. however, by pure luck, at one point while he was out grocery shopping about a month after he left sm entertainment, a scout from TS ENTERTAINMENT approached him and gave them their number, encouraging him to attend one of their auditions. xinwei hadn't wanted to give up on his dream just yet, and went to an audition. again, he was accepted to the company in early 2015, and began training again, this time trying twice as hard, determined to hold onto his dream and debut. he was successful, and then went on to debut with the rest of royalty in late 2016.

    ◦ it is quite plain to see that xinwei is a son of elpis. this kid is so optimistic and positive, it would be hard to even begin to think he'd be a son of anyone else. he is a glass half-full type of person, and never seems to get upset over anything, ever. he can always find the bright side, even when there isn't one. this is partially why he's the mood maker of the group, because he is quite easily able to make his hyungs feel better whenever they're upset. the mood is never sad or negative when xinwei's around, especially not if he can help it, and he is basically grinning 24/7. xinwei is also a major chatter box, and likes to talk a lot, which can be annoying to those around him, because there are times when they just want him to shut up, but don't have the heart to tell him to be quiet. his lack of knowledge of the korean language (which has majorly improved since then) never used to stop him from talking a mile a minute back during his trainee days. his chattiness often comes in handy at defusing any tension around him, and people don't know whether he actually hasn't noticed the obvious tension, or if he's doing it on purpose. this could also be due to the fact that xinwei has the worst timing ever. he has a knack for appearing at the worst possible moment, a habit that he's had ever since he was a child. he always seemed to turn up whenever his dad and his girlfriend were getting cosy, or accidentally barging through the wrong doors at the company building and interrupting important and confidential conversations. pick the worst possible time for someone to interrupt you, and you can bet that xinwei will probably turn up, and then scramble away embarrassed and sheepish, trying to cover his face when he realises he's interrupted something. xinwei also has a very good memory, which is actually really useful when you're trying to learn a new language, and usually remembers things that other people might not as he has an eye for detail. xinwei is also a really clingy person, and has a habit of clingy to his hyungs for dear life, to the point where it seems like they would have to surgically remove him from their arm/leg/wherever xinwei is clinging to. fans always seem to find the skinship really cute, which has only made him do it more, much to the dismay of some of his group mates. (particularly the son of thanatos. xinwei has a special like for the other maknae and seems to cling off him the most). he is a relatively good listener, and will sit there an listen to your problems without interrupting. but while he is good to talk to, he isn't very good at helping solve whatever problems you have, because he isn't exactly some sort of wise maknae that always knows what to do. instead, he's more of the type of person to lie straight to your face just to make you feel better about the situation. however, if it weren't so obvious that xinwei was a son of elpis, people might think he is a son of tyche, since he actually has a lot of really good luck. he tends to win games a lot, and always seems to get a good deal in any card games he plays, to the point where people think he's cheating, even though he's not. he usually gets whatever he wants, and actually wins a lot of luck-based competitions (he once one the group a new fridge and a more comfortable sofa through a competition shortly after they debuted). basically, he's just a smol, innocent cinnamon roll who wants nothing more than to spread hope to the rest of the world and make other people smile.

» | WHY DID YOUR CHARACTER AUDITION TO BECOME A TRAINEE?
    ◦ xinwei had always wanted to be an entertainer, because he honestly loves singing, and he loves the rush he feels after performing for other people. he wanted to become a trainee after he saw EXO debut, since they had a chinese subunit, and that was the first group that got him into kpop. he sent in an application for sm entertainment when he was thirteen, after finally convincing his father to allow him to. he was a trainee for about a year, and was added to SR14B, the male rookies program, but he was dropped from the sm rookies program end of 2014, since sm were really harsh on their foreign trainees, and xinwei was struggling with the culture and the language, so they decided to let him go, and took him out of the sm rookies program. he was then scouted for ts entertainment, and took up their offer, this time trying twice as hard in his training, because he didn't want a repeat of what happened at sm.

    ◦ xinwei has fairly stable vocals, and he's able to hit high notes quite easily, despite being so young. he personally prefers singing ballad songs that are slow and calm, with high notes that he can belt out, but he doesn't really mind singing any sort of style, he's just happy to be singing. his style is somewhat similar to HAECHAN of NCT's.

» | STYLE OF DANCE: he is one of the group's dancers, but he's never really been trained in dance, so he's not tried very many styles. he entered the company, wanting to focus on his vocals which he was most confident in , but he was put into dance classes as well during his trainee period. it turned out that he had pretty good coordination and was able to keep up quite easily, and ended up becoming a decent enough dancer to become part of ROYALTY's dance line. however, despite this, he hasn't really experimented with anything outside the group's concept.

» | HOW THEY ACT ON STAGE:
    ◦ on stage, xinwei has absolutely no troubles pulling off the group's concept. he can act sexy, and is usually extremely versatile, so he'd be able to fit whatever concept they were doing, despite still being rather young. however, as soon as the music stops, he goes back to being the innocent and optimistic maknae that the fans all know.

» | HOW THEY ACT OFF STAGE BUT ON CAMERA:
    ◦ he's the make through and through, and has no problems acting like it. he doesn't usually mind embarrassing himself for fans, and will probably do whatever fan service is asked of him (within reason). he doesn't mind doing aegyo for the fans, and feels the need to do it since he's the maknae, but he only usually does it when asked, and doesn't randomly start doing it.

» | HOW THEY ACT OFF STAGE AND OFF CAMERA:
    ◦ he doesn't really act that much different, but he doesn't really have as much energy, since he always gets more hyper when they perform due to the rush he gets from standing up on stage. he's still pretty much the same, and seems to leak of a natural cuteness, which makes his group mates want to protect him.

    ◦ he'll do aegyo, but only if he's asked, so he doesn't usually randomly start doing it

» | HARDSHIPS AND STRUGGLES AS TRAINEE / IDOL:
    ◦ xinwei had most of his hardships while still signed under sm entertainment, as it was one of the big three, and they could be particularly harsh on their foreign trainees. he struggled a lot because of the language at first, because he went to seoul not knowing a word of korean, and had to try and pick it up as he went along, all while trying to balance his training and his school (which was taught in a language he couldn't fully understand). so of course, the trainers were undeniably harsh on him to help him improve. however, things were a bit easier while under sm, because the trainees were nice to him, and even though not many of them got really close to him, none of them went directly out of their way to be mean and horrible to him. as well of this, there were multiple other foreign trainees under the company, some around his age and some that were older, so he never felt really alone.
    ◦ after transferring to ts entertainment, he didn't really receive any abuse from the trainers. his korean has drastically improved, and he put in a lot of effort into his training, determined not to be dropped from a second entertainment company. he was also used to being trained under one of the big three, so he quickly adapted into the training routine under ts. however, some of the trainees didn't really like him very much, because the trainers had a slight bias towards him, and went out of their way to pick on him (none of them debuted in royalty, luckily for xinwei).

    - when it comes to emotion manipulation, xinwei is more or less average at the skill. his mother was the one to try and teach it to him, and it's pretty much to only power he really has, and he doesn't really use it that much. he has learnt how to manipulate the emotions and moods of those around him, but he never really continued to practice at the skill after being taught it. it wasn't something he really enjoyed doing, because he always felt bad for altering the moods of other people, which is why his skill level isn't as high as people would think. however, he is actually really good at sensing other people's moods, which brings his skill level up slightly, as something that he doesn't really mind doing. he knows what other people are feeling almost automatically after coming into contact with them, and it's basically normal for him now, to be able to read through the emotions of the people he meets. since he's not changing any of their emotions, he never feels bad about doing the latter.

    - xinwei doesn't really know why he chose a sword out of all options he had, but when he was first told to pick a weapon, he immediately went for a sword, only to drop it as soon as he picked it up. because of that, he was quickly ushered away from the weapon and urged to chose something else. however, that just made xinwei even more determined to learn how to fight with the sword. of course, he mostly learnt how to do it on his own, because his mother wasn't much help, and mostly just supervised him the first time he decided to use it, and then that was it. his father turned out to be more helpful, and always seemed to have a few tips for xinwei whenever he found the boy practicing in the backyard, as his father was a martial arts teacher.
    ◦ MARTIAL ARTS ; skill level (6.5/10)
    - he has been learning martial arts ever since he was a little kid, due to the fact that his father was a martial arts teacher. so of course, xinwei is reasonably good when it comes to hand to hand combat, and he was well above average. however, he is a little rusty at this point, since he stopped when he moved to korea on his own to become a trainee. his training schedule was too busy to try and continue martial arts onto of school and everything else. however, he's still pretty good when it comes to the basics, but he is nowhere near as good as he was before.

» | HOW DO THEY FEEL ABOUT BEING ON SACRIFICIAL LAMB?
    ◦ xinwei is still extremely positive about the whole experience, despite the alarmingly high death rate from the show over the years it's run. he is so optimistic about the whole thing, that it actually makes people wonder if he even knows what the group is getting into. he does however know full well what happens on the show, but he isn't the son of the goddess of hope for nothing. he is also relying on pure luck to get him and his group mates through the show. but despite everything, he still manages to be ridiculously positive, and find a bright side to it all. ("hey, at least being on sacrificial lamb will get us some publicity, i mean, everyone watches the show, right? maybe our album sales will rise!")

» | HOW WOULD YOUR CHARACTER REACT TO KILLING SOMEONE? WHAT IF S/HE WAS CLOSE TO THAT PERSON? WHAT IS S/HE HAD TO DO IT TO SURVIVE OR TO SAVE SOMEONE THEY ARE CLOSE WITH?
     ◦ i don't think xinwei would be able to kill someone in these games. i think his plan of action would be something along the lines of stay with his hyungs and avoid everyone else and somehow survive until the end. i don't think he'd be able to actually kill someone himself, and if he did it would leave this poor kid scarred for the rest of his life, and he would never be able to forget or forgive himself for doing it, even if he did to survive or save one of his group mates

» | HOW WOULD YOUR CHARACTER REACT TO WATCHING SOMEONE DIE? WHAT IF S/HE WAS CLOSE TO THAT PERSON?
    ◦ he would be really stunned at first, and would probably find it hard to come to terms with what had happened. he'd be extremely distraught if something happened to the SON OF THANATOS or the SON of HERMES, since i think xinwei would be closest to them out of the group, but he would be extremely upset if any of his group members died. if the SON OF THANATOS died, i don't think he'd get over it. he'd probably plaster a smile on his face and pretend to be okay for the rest of the show, but he'd be in tears whenever he's on his own and not around cameras. he would probably be scarred if he watched someone from the other groups die, but i don't think he'd really feel anything, since he wouldn't have gotten close with any of them, but he would probably never get over watching one of his group mates die.

    ◦ xinwei would not sabotage anyone unless it was absolutely necessary. he would, however, be far more open to it if it was the only way to save one of his group mates. if the only way to help save them was to sabotage someone else, he would do it, because doesn't want anything to happen to his hyungs, and he'd rather go down with his group mates than be the reason they were dead because he didn't sabotage someone else. he'd still feel pretty bad if that person had died in the process, but he wouldn't have done it on purpose, and had he known that the person would die, he might not have gone through the original plan. (but it would keep him awake at night, and he wouldn't be able to set his mind at ease no matter how hard he tried to tell himself it was to protect those he was close to.)
