  1. In his dream, his Goddess died.
  2.
  3. A heaven-rending scream echoed through the vast halls of his mind as the blood-red sword plunged through her heart, consuming her divine body with fire. He reached out to her, tried to do something, but he was so small, so weak. A tiny speck of dust trying to hold back a storm. Just letting his hand get close to her caused it to burn away, searing into nothingness and leaving behind a charred, useless stump. He could do nothing but watch as she cried out for help, receiving no answer as she burned away.
  4.
  5. He was brought to his knees and he cried, too small for her killer to even look in his direction, clutching at the area where his hand once was. Suddenly, the Goddess sat up, her body still burning and smoking. She looked at him and smiled, her warm, wise eyes locking to his, smiling even as he watched her flesh char and blacken. Standing up, she moved closer to him, and he let her, feeling comforted. She was alive... She had survived... She pulled him back to his feet and wrapped her arms around him.
  6.
  7. It was an instant burst of pain as she set his own body ablaze, but he didn't fight her or scream. The fire was coming from inside, flickering underneath his skin. It flared from his back, consuming his wings and leaving them white and gold when they finally burned out. More wings burst from his back, fluttering and slicing at the air...
  8.
  9. The last thing he saw was the single, wide, staring eye that he had become.
