CHAPTER 1: Pink

He had been hoping for peace. No more fighting, no more violence. It was why he risked himself to liberate everyone, Human, Gem, whoever. In a corne of his mind, he'd wondered if he was capable of leaving someone to suffer alone. He'd risk everything, to save some stranger he didn't even know.
Steven nearly hadn't noticed the slight shockwave, which caused everything in the house to start shaking and trembling. Even then, he'd assumed it to be an earthquake or something similar, a natural phenomenon, nothing to do with him.
Garnet was the first to realise anything was wrong. She stood from the couch, he same moment Pearl rose from the counter. Amethyst hadn't moved, and neither had Steven. "Crystal Gems," Garnet said in an unusually bitter voice. "To the Warp Pad, now."
This was when Steven started paying attention. It didn't pay to be underprepared, not when dealing with potential magical threats. He remembered all of the Gem Monsters he'd faced, the enemies he'd made or befriended. White Diamond had been the last major opponent. But that had happened months ago.
Pearl spoke, bringing Steven's attention back to Earth, the immediate situation. "Garnet, you mean..." the fear in her voice was sharp and unusual.
Garnet didn't reply, which only increased his uneasiness. The shaking passed, atleast. Amethyst clapped her hands together, standing up. "Thank goodness, i've been SO bored!" She headed towards the Warp Pad, swinging her arms carefreely. "Was it the Cluste? Or...?"
As Steven leaped towards the Warp, using his abilities to slow his fall, twirling through the air. Garnet caught him, setting him down. "It's not the Cluster," she said as Pearl joined the team on the Warp Pad. "It's something much older."
"What's older than the Cluster?" Steven asked as they entered the Warp Stream, a beam of light connecting the group to another place in the Galaxy, sometimes light years away. Not this time, of course.
Garnet took her time. In the end, it was Pearl who spoke. "A lot of things on Earth are older than the Cluster, Steven. However, this goes back to before Gemkind even came to Earth."
That didn't gove away much. Annoyed, Steven followed up with a fe more questions. "If that's so, how do you know about this? How do I not know about this? What even IS this?"
"Yeah!" Amethyst added behind him as they appeared from the Warp Stream, in a location Steven didn't recognised. This surprised him, shocked that he hadn't visited every Warp location on Earth yet. He almost didn't catch Parl mumbling, "Earth has its own monsters, Steven."
They were in a forest clearing. The numerous tracks, crossing over eachother wildly, were all clearly made by animals. In fact, Steven was starting to wonder why they were there when- "woah, dude, look!" Amethyst grabbed his arm, turning him around.
At first, he wondered; why is there a wall rising out of the ground? Then his perspective shifted, and he realised what he was looking at. There was a massive mountain rising out of the ground, roughly two hundred meters infront of them. Yet it was clearly noticeable, because it rose up into the air, the tip too high to see.
Woah was right. It was impressive, as long as he wasn't made to climb it.
Garnet appeased his fears. "Crystal Gems, summon your weapons." Raising her hands, the gems in her hands - a common Ruby and rare Sapphire - glowed simultaneously; bringing them down, both were clad in eavy gauntlets. Pearl and Amethyst followed suit, summoning their respective weapons wordlessly; a sharp, elegant spear, and a lethal, slick whip. Steven summoned his own weapon; a smooth, shiny pink shield depicting a rose, circling around and over the shield. It barely took him to concentrate anymore.
"We're not climbing the mountain, are we?" Amethyst asked. Garnet glanced at her.
"Just keep your weapons at the ready," she said. Wondering what the big deal was, Steven followed the others.
