  1. You can't even remember the last time when things felt normal. You can't even remember the last time you saw another person. Ever since the disaster you thought you were the only one alive. Surviving alone out here has been hell. So when you see a shillouete in the distance, {you decide to strike a match to see clearer}. Your surroundings illuminate, along with the figure. You're in the reception lobby of a forgotten complex. As the figure draws nearer, you can make out small details. It's speckled, matted fur hangs low on its large frame. It's ears flop down, as it timidly approaches you and the fire. It's a dog! {You decide to keep and name your new fluffy companion}. But what name should it be? Oompa Loompa Doompa Dee Dog? Obama? Hazel?. Ah, yes, {Hazel}, that name sounds perfect. You feed Hazel the Dog some of your scraps and she seems to want to stay. Looks like you've got yourself a companion in these empty lands. However, night is about to fall, the safest part of the day. {You must forage through the rubble for whatever scraps of food and supplies you can dig up}. You walk down a crumbled brick path until suddenly, Hazel runs off and starts barking at a crushed car. You follow her, and inside the car is a dead body, clutching a rotten happy meal. {You take what's left of the happy meal, sharing the almost moldy chicken nuggets and the sour chocolate milk with Hazel}. Finally, you get to the toy: it's a walkie talkie! You frantically holler and yell, asking the empty airwaves if anyone could hear, but, alas, batteries not included! So you gently place the walkie on the ground and give it a good stomp until it breaks into sharp bits of plastic. You take the largest and use it to cut up the body in the car for later consumption. You throw the bloody parts in your backpack, zip it up. You decide to move on, and so you get up and turn around to see a streetlamp falling towards you. You dive out of the way, and Hazel follows just in the nick of time. You get up and dust yourself off, wincing at a few scrapes and cuts from the rough asphalt and sharp debris. You see sparks flying from the fallen lamppost, and you notice a pull of gas from the broken car right next to the downed lamppost. You are faced with a choice, and you choose...wisely. {You and hazel run for your life}, and in less than a second the car explodes into a fireball, in all its fury.

  3. You wake up to Hazel licking your face. You realize you're on the ground, and you assess the situation. You're alive, but you can feel some cuts and bruises and a small welt on the top of your skull. You stand up, a bit dizzy, and look around. You look up to the sky as the gray clouds turn to black except for the white streaks of lighting that illuminate the streets. A storm is coming, and you and hazel need to find shelter. How hard could that be in a city? You break into an apartment building and climb up to a top floor flat. You tour the apartment, a simple two-bedroom, one of which used to be occupied by a child. You break open a child's toy and put the batteries into your happy meal walkie talkie. An LED lights up and violà, it's on. You frantically yell into it: "Hello? ... Can anyone hear me? ... Hello? ... Please, respond! ..." You need better signal. {You force the old window open and lunge out onto the rusty fire escape.} You step towards the ladder, with each footfall being coupled with a loud, prolonged metallic creaking. Rung by rung you descend down to the next landing, and the next, and the next, until your feet finally land on the wet, puddled sidewalk. You try the walkie again: "Anyone ... is there anyone out there? ... anyone left?" No response. You try again, but to no avail. Disheartened, you go back to the fire escape to climb up, but just before you put your hand on the ladder, a blinding flash followed by a loud thunderous BOOM! drown out all other light and sound for just the shortest moment. A half second later you come to your senses, and you sprint away from the fire escape as it falls, red-hot at the top and electricity crawling over the metal, just over where you were just standing. Lightning. The building looks even more damaged. You should get to a new shelter fast. But Hazel is up there! Will you go back into the building to save Hazel and your belongings (40% survival / 60% success), wait out the storm, then go back to save Hazel and your stuff (67% survival / 40% success), or move on to the nearest shelter and leave everything behind (90% survival / 0% success)?
