  3. Hollow
  4.
  5. By Deadweight
  6.
  7. It was a beautiful morning in may as the orange and pink mare gave birth in the bushes. The sun was warm but not scorching, the snow had all melted and the muddy ground had mostly dried out. Five foals entered the world that day. A blue earthy colt, a red pegasus filly, an orange pegasus colt, a pink unicorn filly and a slate grey earthy colt. The mare sits and hums as she licks her babies clean of afterbirth. The peeping babies squirm as she places the first two on her teets to feed. She moves the first pair aside after feeding and happily places the seocnd two at her teets as she begins licking the fifth baby.
  8.
  9. The mare stops and looks at the slate grey colt with confusion. Something deep inside is telling her this is a bad baby. But how can that be true? All babies are for love and hugs. He isnt a poopy baby like some of the bad mommas call them. He isn't deforemed or a runt. In fact he is bigger than the other babies. The baby colt doesnt fuss, squirm or make a peep as momma holds it out with her hoofs. The primordial centers of her brain are screaming for her to kill it or abandon it, but these thoughts are horrifying to her. Momma sniffles as she places the foal on her teet and he feeds with no enthusiasm, just mechanical consumption. After feeding, the mare puts all of her babies on her belly fluff and hums to them. They all raise their heads and peep at the soothing voice of their mother. Except the grey colt. He lays motionless in her fluff just breathing. There was little to do the rest of the day. Being a single fluffy with five babies is exhausting. The poor mare had lost her special friend in a construction site as they crossed into the woods beyond. Now she sits in a bush nearby where she found some good berries to eat. Not much to do now but eat and sleep and produce milk for her spawn until they wean. By nightfall, momma has curled up with her babies and hums them to sleep. She stares at the little grey colt and wonders what to do? But for now, she knows she is a good momma and sleeps soundly.
  10.
  11. Momma repeats this for 3 days, her babies always chirping and peeping as she feeds them and sings to them. Grey never makes a sound. Her heart hurts that the colt doesnt respond to her love and care. The voice in her head constantly tells her to discard the colt before its too late. But she fights it, sure she can warm this babies heart. Then the babies open their eyes.
  12.
  13. "GASP! Babbehs open see pwaces! Mummah hewe babbehs! Mummah wuv widdwe babbehs suuu much!"
  14.
  15. Momma picks up each of the foals, their still squinting eyes adjusting to the light as they gaze upon their mother.
  16.
  17. "PEEP, wuv mummah, su bwight! wan miwkies!"
  18.
  19. She receives a chorus of responses from her children, until she picks up grey. His eyes are a cold steely blue, they show no excitement or happiness to see her.
  20.
  21. "Mummah"
  22.
  23. That flat monotone utterance is the only recognition she gets from him and the cold stare of his eyes unnerves momma.
  24.
  25. "M-Munstah?"
  26.
  27. Momma can no longer deny the voice in her head, this is a bad baby. It hurts her inside so much as she sniffles and carries grey away from the others.
  28.
  29. "Mummah su sowwy babbeh, nu can keep scawy babbeh. Huuhuu stiww wuv ou!"
  30.
  31. Grey doesnt fuss as she sets him on the edge of another bush, her eyes well with more tears as she turns and walks back to her good babies. But grey doesnt move, he just watches her and thinks. He does not care about being rejected, his only concern is getting more milk to keep growing strong. So for now the little grey colt watches and waits. Grey sits there, fairly motionless watching his siblings and mother. Disgusting, such wasteful and idiotic things. The constant babbling as his mother consoles her babies does not stir him at all, instead his eyes focus on her teets, he will have more milk.
  32.
  33. Night falls and grey makes his move. He is already bigger than his siblings and stronger too. He slinks through the bushes as they all slumber and stands over his family, watching. Grey looks down at his blue earthy brother and feels nothing but contempt for the sleeping little thing. Grey uses his considerable size advantage and steps on blues neck. The colt starts to squirm, but no noise comes out as grey steps on his windpipe. Blue struggles more and more but grey just narrows his eyes and pushes til there is a quiet crunch and then blue stops moving. Grey pushes the lifeless colt aside and gets to mommas teet. He suckles until he is full and then stands back. Grey gazes at his remaining family. He could so easily kill the other babies and soon he would be big enough to kill mummah. But now is not the time, they may prove useful yet. For now, grey just returns to his bush and sleeps with a full belly.
  34.
  35. "SCREEEEEEEEE! NUUUU! Babbeh pwease wake up! Nu time fow foweva sweepies huuhuu!"
  36.
  37. Grey wakes the next day to his mothers desperate cries. He sits at the edge of his bush and watches her cradle the dead blue colt.
  38.
  39. "Babbeh nuuhuuhuu! Am good mummah, nu hewt babbeh! Pwease nu weave!"
  40.
  41. Momma cries over her dead colt, tears streaking her fluff as she looks up to see grey watching with his cold blue eyes. He didnt! Did he? Her mind is reeling as the voice in her head comes back and screams for her to kill the bad baby. Her thoughts are interrupted by loud noises nearby. The humans were back with their loud monster machines! Momma turns but grey is gone, she huddles in her bush nest covering her babies and sobbing.
  42.
  43. Grey slips away and rustles through the brush until he peers through some leaves. He watches the humans mill about the constructon site. Loud machinery roars through the dirt and humans swing hammers and cut and saw. Grey doesnt have the words to express it, but he understands what they are doing. Building new nests, using tools to help, the loud machines are under their control. Grey slinks back when he hears two humans nearby.
  44.
  45. "Hey! dont eat those berries Paul!"
  46.
  47. Grey watches the big human smack the smaller one on the head. It makes a clonk noise. Grey understands it is a hat of some kind. The small human moves a yellow bulb from over his ear.
  48.
  49. "What you hitting me for Mark!"
  50.
  51. Grey again understands, the bulbs make loud noises quiet.
  52.
  53. "I said dont eat those berries! The red ones are poisonous! They will give you the shits for days! Damn things would kill smaller animals. C'mon, we gotta get back to work or we will be here twice as long tomorrow."
  54.
  55. Grey narrows his eyes and slinks away. Those were all good things to know. Grey makes himself a nest further from his momma and siblings that day. He drags a big leaf to the bush the humans were at and uses his hoofs to bat some of the low hanging berries loose. He drags them home and uses another leaf to bundle them up carefully. He sleeps soundly that night despite his hunger.
  56.
  57. The next day he wakes when the humans begin working again. His eyes are even colder this day, his hunger is now undeniable. Grey rises and walks home to see momma. He stands near the bush, the humans machines are even louder here. He peers through the brush at the humans, they all wear the noisy bulbs. Grey makes his way into mommas nest and finds her huddled over his siblings.
  58.
  59. "Mummah, babbeh wan miwkies."
  60.
  61. Momma raises her head in surprise to see her grey baby. She had chills from the flat tone of his voice and his loveless stare.
  62.
  63. "N-Nu! Gwey babbeh am munstah! Huuhuu, gu way! Giben mummah heawt hewties."
  64.
  65. Grey steps closer.
  66.
  67. "Mummah, babbeh wan miwkies. NAOW!"
  68.
  69. His siblings peep in her fluff as grey raises his voice, still just a foal but of imposing size.
  70.
  71. "Mummah say nu! Gu way ow... Ow mummah gib sowwy hoofsies!"
  72.
  73. Grey narrows his eyes to icy blue daggers and steps close enough for momma to hear his low tone.
  74.
  75. "Mummah gib babbeh miwkies naow or babbeh scweam su woud da hoomins come an gib foweva sweepies!"
  76.
  77. Momma looks shocked and afraid.
  78.
  79. "Nu! Munstah babbhe nu du dat! Hoomins gib gwey foweva sweepies tu!"
  80.
  81. Grey just leers at her before he speaks.
  82.
  83. "Wathew die fass den stawve mummah!"
  84.
  85. SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
  86.
  87. Grey erupts into loud screams. Momma is freaking out and her babies are crying.
  88.
  89. "Chirp! Nu wike woud noisey!"
  90.
  91. Momma leaps up in a panic.
  92.
  93. "Otay otay! Mummah gib munstah gwey wimkies! Huuhuu nu mowe scweamies!"
  94.
  95. Grey stops screaming, the humans didnt even notice just like he knew they wouldnt. Grey moves close as his siiblings stand and move aside nervously. Grey shoots them a sinister look as he settles in and begins feeding as momma sobs.
  96.
  97. Grey suckles for long moments, hungrily gulping his mothers milk down as his smaller siblings look on and sniffle as their breakfast is guzzled away.
  98.
  99. "D-Dats enuff! Nee west fow udda babbehs."
  100.
  101. Grey raises his head with a murderous look in his blue eyes and momma struggles not to piss herself.
  102.
  103. "Mummah nu teww Gwey when tu stawp! Twy to an wiww scweam again!"
  104.
  105. She peeps at the threat and sniffles as tears stain her face. Grey goes back to suckling, draining one teet and slurping down most of the other before he burps and stands.
  106.
  107. "Fank ou mummah, dat was bestest miwkies. Bai bai."
  108.
  109. Grey turns and leaves without another word or even a glance at his siblings. Momma sobs as her babies hug her. Grey walks through the brush with his belly bloated with more than his fill of milk. He is in a bit of discomfort from the fullness, but shows no expression. He makes his way to the edge of the brush and spends most of the day watching the humans work. Housie skeletons dot the dirt as the humans move about so busy. Grey learns a lot about tools that day and makes mental note of future uses. The sun is starting to go down when the humans pack up and leave. Grey returns to his nest and sleeps as his mind continues to formulate.
  110.
  111. The next day Grey awakens hungry, but not for milk. He no longer needs it, he has weaned before his siblings. Greys advanced growth and disconnected personality are fascinating if not unnerving. Grey rises and begins nibbling grass and leafs. After he finds that unsatisfying, he ventures into the forest to look for better nummies. The humans are hard at work, making lots of noise. Any predators are deep in the woods away from the humans. Grey remains around the edge, unafraid of the humans. He sniffs around and finds some berries like the one in mommas nest and eats his fill. he spends more time watching the humans before it starts to get dark.
  112.
  113. Grey waits in his nest until nightfall. As soon as all is still and dark, he picks up the little bundle of berries in his mouth, careful not to bite down and walks to mommas nest. Grey stands outside an listens for the sounds of steady breathing. When he is sure they are all asleep, he leans in and sets the berries down before he turns to go hide and sleep in a nearby bush.
  114.
  115. "GASP! Wed nummies! Dey wook su gud! Fank ou sky daddeh!"
  116.
  117. Grey has to choke back his sinister satisfaction as he hears his momma discover the berries just before dawn. Grey falls back to sleep after nibbling some grassies and listens to momma hum to his siblings as he dozes.
  118.
  119. Hours later he awakens to the cries of his distressed kin.
  120.
  121. "Huuhuu, babbeh hab wewst tummeh hewties! PEEP! Nu can stawp poopehs or sicki wawas!"
  122.
  123. Grey looks out to see his siblings in the grass, puking and shitting liquid brown. It cakes their haunches and tails and momma is crying her eyes out.
  124.
  125. "Babbehs nu be sad, mummah hugs make aww betta!"
  126.
  127. Momma holds and hugs the pink unicorn filly who vomits in her fluff and shits all over her as she cries and screams.
  128.
  129. "Mummah! Hewt su mush! Babbeh no wan gu foweva sweepies!"
  130.
  131. Momma holds the sobbing wretching filly and coos to her.
  132.
  133. "Babbeh nu gunna foweva sweepies. Mummah make it aww betta. Coo dere dere, babbeh feew betta? Babbeh? B-babbeh?! BABBEH?!?!??!"
  134.
  135. Pinky has stopped moving and gone silent, her life slips away with one last voiding and then she is dead.
  136.
  137. "NUUUUU! Not babbeh! Pwease nuuu! Udda babbehs! Come to mummah! B-Babbehs?"
  138.
  139. Grey watches with what passes for amusement as momma discovers red and orange dead in the grass.
  140.
  141. "NUUUUUUUUUUU! Am wowstest mummah! Huuhuu! Babbehs aww go foweva sweepies, speshuw fwiend tu! Mummah awone huuhuu!"
  142.
  143. Grey steps up to the mare and speaks.
  144.
  145. "Mummah not aww awone, stiww hab Gwey. Gwey knu mummah nu wike, but dat otay. Mummah gun go foweva sweepies soon tu, den can be wit babbehs an daddeh."
  146.
  147. Momma looks up in absolute grief and terror.
  148.
  149. "NUUU Gu way munstah! Mummah not afwiad ob ou nu mowe! Gu way or gib ou biggest stompies! Nu can gib mummah foweva sweepies!"
  150.
  151. Grey gives the first smile momma has seen and it fills her with dread.
  152.
  153. "Siwwy mummah, Gwey aweady did. Dem wed bewwies awe bad nummies. Dey make mummah miwk kiww babbehs. Now dey gun kiww ou."
  154.
  155. Mommas eye go wide as grey turns and walks away. She gets a glimpse of his dark red mane growing in as she starts coughing up blood an her tummy rumbles.
  156.
  157. "KAFKAF, Gwey am munstah, shouwda stompied wong time ago."
  158.
  159. Grey walks into the bushes as momma doubles over in pain and starts to shit herself. He would never see her again.
  160.
  161. Grey walks for quite sometime after that. He stops to nibble whatever nummies he finds and follows a familiar scent. Grey emerges from the bushes to see a small herd milling about a gently sloping grassy hillside. Grey stands until a few notice him, he may be large for his age but still smaller than these fluffies. He would need to be cunning.
  162.
  163. "Whewe widdle fwuffeh come fwum? Dis smawties hewd and ou betta not twy nuffin!"
  164.
  165. Grey watches a chubby blue and orange unicorn waddle over to him with its cheeks puffed. The smarty sniffs at grey and glares at him warily.
  166.
  167. "Fwuffeh nu wan twoubwe, mummah and bwuddas and sissies go foweva sweepies, hab biggest heawt hewties. Can be pawt of smawties hewd? Foun nummies!"
  168.
  169. Grey drags out a big leaf and pushes it open to reveal a mound of red berries. Smarties eyes go wide and he dives in and gobbles a mouthful before he addresses grey.
  170.
  171. "Dees am gud nummies! Ou nu am poopeh babbeh, jussa nu pwetty. Buh can stay if fwuffeh bwing mowe nummies!"
  172.
  173. Grey forces his best smile and sniffles as smarty devours the entire heap of berries while the others look on forlorn.
  174.
  175. "Fank ou smawty, Gwey wiww fine wotsa nummies."
  176.
  177. END
