  1. Overview
  2. ########
  3. - solid defensive typing in water/poison; while its good, it still gives a weakness to ground which is a common attacking type. poison type also lets it absorb t.spikes
  4. - solid abilities such as Intimidate and Swift Swim
  5. - movepool includes colourful options such as spikes, t.spikes, t-wave, taunt, d.bond, explosion, and good stab moves such as waterfall and poison jab, making it a threat on a supportive level
  6. - good lead for offensive and bulky teams alike that depend on hazards
  7. - great lead to have on hyper offense in particular for its ability to lay down hazards quickly and easily allow a threat to come in safely afterwards
  8. - pitiful SpD that doesn't allow Qwilfish to check Pokemon it otherwise could, such as Samurott, Omastar, and Typhlosion.
  9.
  10. Hazards Support
  11. ########
  12. name: Hazards Support
  13. move 1: Spikes
  14. move 2: Pain Split
  15. move 3: Waterfall / Scald
  16. move 4: Taunt / Thunder Wave
  17. ability: Intimidate
  18. item: Black Sludge
  19. evs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
  20. nature: Impish / Bold
  21.
  22. Moves
  23. ========
  24. - spikes is spikes, good hazard that is stackable etc
  25. - pain split is a somewhat reliable recovery move that Qwilfish can utilize with its low HP
  26. - Waterfall is good STAB
  27. - Scald is a weak STAB thanks to Qwilfish's poor SpA stat but is an option for its 30% chance to burn
  28. - Taunt stops some walls like Lickilicky and Audino from wishtect shenanigans, and also prevents defog and allows Qwilfish to work as a stallbreaker
  29. - thunder wave can be used to cripple sweepers such as Sawk
  30. - toxic spikes is a good move to have on Qwilfish as well
  31. - poison jab is a usable STAB if you want it
  32. - haze is usable but qwilfish kinda doesn't have a place for it
  33.
  34. Set Details
  35. ========
  36. - EVs aim to maximize bulk as much as possible, with enough speed to outspeed Timid Omastar which allows Qwilfish to taunt it to prevent hazards.
  37. - Black Sludge used for good passive recovery
  38. - Impish if Waterfall, Bold if Scald
  39.
  40. Usage Tips
  41. ========
  42. - can be used as a lead for more defensive teams
  43. - can be used throughout the game to set up hazards more than one time and check threats such as Sawk, Feraligatr (shaky), and Hariyama
  44. - uses the combination of Spikes, Pain Split, and Taunt to set up as much hazards as possible, stop Defog and all attempts of set up, and stay alive thanks to Pain Split
  45.
  46. Team Options
  47. ========
  48. - spinblockers such as spiritomb and mismagius can block rapid spin attempts
  49. - phazers can go well with qwilfish to spread more residual damage thanks to the hazards it lays down. dragon tail lickilicky, roar rhydon, and steelix. the latter two can also set up SR which helps pressure the opp and overwhelm them with hazards
  50. - ground-types like seismitoad and again, rhydon are good as they are immune to electric-type attacks and can set up SR.
  51. - Pokemon on balance that appreciate qwilfish's hazards can go well with it. Pokemon such as Electivire, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr.
  52. - wish support from pokemon like lickilicky or audino can keep qwilfish alive
  53. - grass-types such as ferroseed are good to stomach the electric attacks aimed at qwilfish
  54.
  55. Suicide Lead
  56. ########
  57. name: Suicide Lead
  58. move 1: Spikes
  59. move 2: Taunt
  60. move 3: Toxic Spikes
  61. move 4: Explosion
  62. ability: Intimidate
  63. item: Focus Sash
  64. evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
  65. nature: Jolly
  66.
  67. Moves
  68. ========
  69. - spikes is spikes, good hazard that is stackable etc
  70. - taunt prevents opposing taunt and hazards from being set up, also prevents defog
  71. - toxic spikes is good, induces poison etc
  72. - Explosion can work as a psuedo spinblock, as using it when the opponent is using defog/rapid spin will make it fail since there will be no target etc. it's also good to go with a bang.
  73. - waterfall is a good STAB to have but has no place on the set
  74.
  75. Set Details
  76. ========
  77. - focus sash allows qwilfish to guarantee at least 1 or 2 hazards down
  78. - intimidate can allow Qwilfish to take some weaker hits to set up more hazards
  79. - max speed used to be as fast as possible to lay down as much hazards as possible
  80.
  81. Usage Tips
  82. ========
  83. - qwilfish is usually used as a lead for hyper offense teams, so use it as a lead for hyper offense teams
  84. - depending on the opposite pokemon, as in if it was a set up pokemon such as probopass or something then use taunt then lay down hazards, to prevent potential stealth rock from being set up
  85. - if using toxic spikes, then sometimes it is better to lay down 1 layer as opposed to 2 layers against offensive teams, this is because offensive Pokemon like Ludicolo and Magmortar take more damage over short periods of time, unlike with 2 layers which gives a lot of damage over a long period of time. on the other hand, against defensive teams that have Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Audino, 2 layers is better
  86. - go boom against a potential rapid spin/defog/xatu to keep hazards
  87.
  88. Team Options
  89. ========
  90. - usually used on hyper offense teams, so Pokemon that like hazards like having Qwilfish as a teammate
  91. - sweepers such as rain dance ludicolo, choice scarf pyroar and typhlosion, slurpuff, feraligatr like having hazards on the field therefore they are good teammates
  92. - stealth rock users go well to pressure opponent even more. mesprit and magnet pull probopass are great stealth rock users on offensive teams.
  93. - wallbreakers such as choice specs pyroar and typhlosion, magmortar, and choice band granbull also like having hazards
  94.
  95. Other Options
  96. ########
  97. - swords dance with pjab, waterfall, and explosion (although have to use poison point or swift swim cuz intimidate illegal with sd, and aqua jet + sd is illegal)
  98. - rain dance with swift swim for rain dance teams
  99. - all-out attacker with waterfall, pjab, explosion, and aqua jet with intimidate to bluff a support set
  100. - life orb hydro pump and sludge bomb are kinda strong and usable options
  101. - [12:22:20 PM] blunder: ey is qwil a good scarfer ma nigga
  102.
  103. Checks & Counters
  104. ########
  105. **Psychic-types**: Psychic-type attacks are super effective on Qwilfish and therefore most Psychic-type Pokemon can stop Qwilfish. Kadabra and Xatu are good at this, the latter especially because it can use Magic Bounce to reflect Qwilfish's own hazards back at it, while the former is unaffected by hazards thanks to Magic Guard. Mesprit can also use its STAB Psychic to KO Qwilfish.
  106.
  107. **Special Attackers**: Thanks to Qwilfish's poor SpD stat, any strong special attacker can stop it in its tracks. Seismitoad, Rotom-N, Rotom-F, Mismagius, and Sceptile can all damage Qwilfish for a lot with their STAB attacks. Cryogonal and Articuno both can carry Freeze Dry which is super effective against Qwilfish. Additionally, Seismitoad has Water Absorb and resists Poison-type moves while having Earth Power to hurt Qwilfish.
  108.
  109. **Defog/Taunt**: While Qwilfish can carry Taunt to stop Defog, most Defoggers such as Mantine and Pelipper are immune to its hazards and can come in later and remove them with ease. Faster Taunt users can also stop Qwilfish in its tracks, and those include Mismagius, Samurott, and Liepard.
