  1. A small city, initially meant to be divorced of the world and a quiet reliquary where researchers could pick through the technology left on Avaisirae supplied by a small drone factory and protected with repurposed Vigil sentry guns. Things never quite work out how they're meant to around here, though.
  2.
  3. Others took notice of Avaisirae; most notably a whole mess of ravenous scavengers opposed by a group that calls themselves the New Vigil. As competition for the caches of advanced resources on this otherwise rather desolate planet grew, so too did the Rest's defenses, until it was soon enough desperately attempting to gather adventurers and mercenaries to defend it from scavengers and run errands.
  4.
  5. Now, Sorrow's Rest has expanded into a small technocratic town; lead primarily by a group of isolated and mostly anonymous scientists holed up inside of its Citadel, its relatively small population belies the potential they have to enact much change. Powerful individuals, or those hopeful they'll end up powerful, travel from all over the galaxy to help the scientists of Sorrow's Rest wrench technological secrets from the depths of oblivion. . . although, by now, everyone seems to have forgotten to ask who exactly they're helping become privvy to such secrets.
  6.
  7. The area just surrounding the Citadel is awash in industrial buildings mostly automated by drones, as well as heavy defenses that the paranoid scientists have erected to stave off incursions by scavengers and those hungry for the data they've collected; but further out from its harsh metal core is a warm community of adventure-seekers, researchers, and simple townspeople who have sought comfort in the protection the small, mostly anarchic community has developed.
  8.
  9. Yet still, the New Vigil meddles, growing increasingly impatient with the scientists in the Citadel and eager for their findings, even making several attempted buyouts of the city such that they could incorporate it into their territory. Worse, the planet is rife with scavengers that make countless discoveries of their own, and avail themselves of extremely powerful and esoteric technology; some, in time, will most certainly grow bold.
  10.
  11. But, for now, Sorrow's Rest hangs in the balance between its own technocratic overseers, the New Vigil, and the masses of bandits, scavengers and freelancers, its population trying their hardest to maintain some measure of stability in a universe so recently bereaved of it.
