  1. 01:05:58: RioCadaro When we last left Revas, he had just finished reuniting with his family that was within Clodberg's abode. The temptation of the city combined with the stressors on his mind left the young Almeza man to indulge in the city's many vices. A hangover and confusion later, Revas found himself in awkward conversation with his closest companion Klaus. The two soon parted ways after meeting
  2. 01:05:58: RioCadaro up in the morning, leaving each other to their own devices. What are Revas's plans, and what else lies in wait for the young adventurer?
  3. 01:10:53: <Revas> Now that he's got clothes on again - and thank god for that - he knows there's several things he needs to get done today. The gym leader's battles need to be seen, his family needs to know what's going on, he needs to meet up with Clayton... also somewhere in this city is a Snag Machine waiting on pickup... god, where does he even begin?
  4. 01:13:28: RioCadaro Good question...where is he to begin?
  5. 01:14:59: <Revas> Well, if he's due to meet Clayton, then there's probably a time or place set for that - so the question is how much time he has before then.
  6. 01:16:20: RioCadaro Clayton made mention he probably wouldn't be in town until closer to the end of the day today.
  7. 01:20:12: <RioCadaro> (So he's probably the last thing you'd have contact with today)
  8. 01:21:51: <Revas> Okay. That sorts that out. The competition is probably just getting underway... so, perhaps selfishly, his first priority becomes his family. He does his best to navigate back to the hotel; hopefully they're still there, or he can at least leave them a message.
  9. 01:28:57: RioCadaro You approach the clerk's desk in the main lobby. The same man from the night before is still here, covering what seems to be the last part of his shift. "Have you come to speak to your sister and brother, Mister Almeza?"
  10. 01:31:13: <Revas> "Ah, yes. If they're still here," he nods, then adds slightly quieter, "And... alone?" it's not exactly what he wants to be saying aloud but... he doesn't really want to have to deal with militia right now.
  11. 01:36:01: <RioCadaro> 1d100
  12. 01:36:06: <RioCadaro> Oops >_>
  13. 01:36:28: <Revas> (Dicemaid get in here)
  14. 01:36:57: <RioCadaro> 1d100
  15. 01:36:58: <DiceMaid-9001> RioCadaro, 1d100: 69 [1d100=69]
  16. 01:37:38: RioCadaro "At this time, they're eating breakfast with Commander in Chief Dmitri. My apologies. Perhaps I can give them a message for you?"
  17. 01:42:53: <Revas> Oh christ it's a good thing he found out. But it still seems to take him a few moments to come to a decision. "I, uh... yes. Could you let them know I'll be attending the competition later today? I'd like... to view it with them, if they can make it." Good. That'll do.
  18. 01:54:54: RioCadaro "Which part of the competition will you be partaking in? There are quite a few events occuring today, I would hate to mislead them to the wrong area. There is a Pokemon Contest being held along with a mini-tournament held, both being set up within the center of town. There are also a few other smaller events, including Pokemon Intelligence Tests, Aerial Stunt Runs....among other
  19. 01:54:54: RioCadaro things for Pokemon. For us people, there's a very large Poker tournament at the Milotic this afternoon as well as this evening, high stakes Craps in the Southern district...our very own Opal House Fashion show here later in the evening...should I continue?"
  20. 01:55:58: <RioCadaro> (Hello Zoof!)
  21. 01:57:16: <zoofman> (hey just watchin')
  22. 01:59:47: <RioCadaro> It's cool :)
  23. 02:00:29: <Revas> "Oh? Admittedly I didn't know most of that!" Revas laughs a little, rubbing the back of his head in embarassment. "I'm... mostly interested in seeing the matches for the title of gym leader, although..." ugh, he has to stay focused on things. Right? --Wait no, there's a perfectly good excuse, "You said... poker tournament? If they're not available for
  24. 02:01:02: <Revas> a while, I may... be attending that." Yes, there's a perfectly good reason to, actually.
  25. 02:09:19: <RioCadaro> "Matches for title of the....Mister Almeza, you know that the Gym Leader is determined by whomever earns the most income for the year, and a good....quarter to a third of most of the earnings is usually made on THIS very day, you realize this don't you? Regardless, if you are to attend the afternoon Poker Tournament, I would suggest signing up without delay! Pay-in entry with a single
  26. 02:09:19: <RioCadaro> buy-back opportunity per player. Though it is a VAST tournament, spots do fill up rather quickly!"
  27. 02:14:07: <Revas> "...That's seriously it?" Revas seems almost... amused. "Sorry. I only got a minimum of information coming here," he laughs a little, and relaxes some. "Alright then. It was at the Milotic, correct? Can you give me directions? If I'm to participate, then..."
  28. 02:20:53: RioCadaro "The Milotic Fountain is in the Northern District, just across the way here. You'll be able to recognize it by...well, when you look into it, you'll see just why it's called the Milotic Fountain! And just to prepare you, minimum buy-in is 50,000 for this tournament. Don't expect to stick around long unless you invest at least 250,000, if you ask me." The man chuckles, figuring
  29. 02:20:53: RioCadaro this would crush your child-hopeful spirit.
  30. 02:22:24: <Revas> "Oh? Well, for what I need to get done... I guess that'll have to do," he shrugs it off. It's not until a moment -after- he's dropped that stunning line that he seems to realise what he just said and is probably similarly stunned by it.
  31. 02:23:44: <RioCadaro> 1d20
  32. 02:23:44: <DiceMaid-9001> RioCadaro, 1d20: 19 [1d20=19]
  33. 02:24:27: RioCadaro The man doesn't seem to flinch at your statement, as much as you'd expect him to be. "Well, in that case good luck Mr. Almeza! I'll be sure to notify your siblings of your participation in the tournament!"
  34. 02:25:55: <Revas> 1d20+3
  35. 02:25:56: <DiceMaid-9001> Revas, 1d20+3: 10 [1d20=7]
  36. 02:27:11: <Revas> Revas is actually a little more shaken by his own statement than the clerk. "Right. Uh, yeah. Thank you very much!" and he marches out. Oh god he's probably about to wager more money than he's seen in a single place in his entire life. It's kidn of giving him the shivers as he heads back out and heads in the direction of the Milotic.
  37. 02:30:42: RioCadaro It doesn't take you long to find the Milotic, as there are banners posted nearby directing you towards the huge establishment. You were thinking this was one bar....oh no. It looks like this place was more like the largest pub you could ever imagine with bar counters LINING the walls in a near uniform fashion. A large center stage looms in the middle with the brightest of bright
  38. 02:30:42: RioCadaro lights gleaming down on a house band. Near the stage is the fountain the man spoke of, glistening liquid leaping from six angles at the base of the Milotic statue. You'd guess hundreds...no, THOUSANDS of people could be accomodated in this place, and every single table seems to be prepared for one thing: Poker. the number of people within seems to be nearing thousands as well as you look
  39. 02:30:42: RioCadaro for the registration desk.
  40. 02:34:27: <Revas> Oh god. This place is... so completely his style. Why didn't he come here last night--oh, right, chances are -someone- would have interfered in a place this large. Still... well, he needs to find the registration oh god he doesn't even know where to begin. Not to mention his eyes are following the people there - he's here to meet people, to do his part,
  41. 02:34:48: <Revas> and so he's watching and sizing up the crowd.
  42. 02:42:51: RioCadaro You see a wide variety of faces as you approach the registration desks. Biker gangs, men in suits with dark glasses, men and women with hardly any teeth or look of wit about them. A good majority of the cleaner looking individuals seem to have a smirk on their face and are looking around doing the same exact same thing as you: eyeing the others for looks of who they were against.
  43. 02:42:51: RioCadaro You notice quite a few of them pause when they view you. Some chuckle, but only a few of the better-dressed men, all in suits, give you a serious look-down.
  44. 02:44:44: <Revas> Those ones, when he notices, are the ones that Revas looks at in return - it's like a 'click' of understanding. They're the ones smart enough to know that a kid wouldn't be in this crowd without purpose or money... and chances are, that means they're the ones with the sway in the city that Revas is looking for. He greets them almost in passing, though he
  45. 02:45:02: <Revas> hardly expects any actual conversation to break out... at least, not in public like this, when they're amongst the crowds.
  46. 02:52:16: RioCadaro The registration clerk places your name on the list...number 3227. Wow...Not too late! Out of the total 3500 they were able to house, you actually made it in. The men seem to nod to you in acknowledgment when you barely greet them, there's five in total in their group. They chat amongst themselves, when combined with the other 3496 people talking right now it's almost unbelievable
  47. 02:52:16: RioCadaro anything would be heard in this crowd. Finally a loud speaker comes from the stage. "POOLS WILL BE DIVIDED AND READY WITHIN THE NEXT 15 MINUTES. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE MILOTIC IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE DISQUALIFIED. SINGLE CALL ATTENDANCE IN PLACE. IF YOU ARE NOT HERE WHEN YOUR NUMBER IS CALLED, YOU ARE DISQUALIFIED!"
  48. 03:00:10: <Revas> Man, it really did fill up fast. He'd been hoping maybe to dart out and secure some other things first, but it seems like there's no time for that. He stretches out a little, almost looking like he's warming up for an athletic event rather than, well, poker. He doesn't expect to win... but he doesn't expect to loose, either. It'd be demeaning to his
  49. 03:00:28: <Revas> profession to be dropped early, afterall... not to mention make the investment completely worthless.
  50. 03:08:37: <RioCadaro> (Bathroom break sorry >_<)
  51. 03:08:40: <RioCadaro> (brb)
  52. 03:09:01: <Revas> (Alright)
  53. 03:17:40: <RioCadaro> (Back! Sorry, had to handle somethign else :P)
  54. 03:20:36: RioCadaro The wait finally lingered past as the musty smell started to near that of a caged animal's pen not cleaned for three weeks with all the mingling and fidgeting of players. They begin to announce players in groups of 7, split amongst 500 tables total. You are on table 341. In your first crowd none of the men you noticed earlier were sitting with you, but one of the men is sitting
  55. 03:20:36: RioCadaro at a table just behind you, in the seat behind you. As the rest of the players get distributed there's a bit more of a break before you start playing. The man, slicked back black hair with gray highlights tiger-striped through them, leans back in his chair and whispers one thing to you: "Good luck, kid."
  56. 03:26:01: <Revas> "Same to you," Revas leans back a little to answer it, then leans forward with an almost relaxed expression. He tries his best to relax himself in reality, too - tuning out the crowd, if he focuses on just this table, it's possible to forget -just how much- he's wagering on this... and just think of it as a backroom card game with clients.
  57. 03:30:07: RioCadaro How much do you buy in for to begin? You get this opportunity, and a single other opportunity should you run out of money along the way.
  58. 03:30:34: RioCadaro 50,000 is minimum, as said before.
  59. 03:32:00: <Revas> Revas is determined; he goes in with twice that much. And tries really hard not to think about it. He's mentally reducing the chip sizes by about a 100 multiplier here.
  60. 03:32:50: RioCadaro 100,000 buy-in! Not too bad. Most of the chumps at this table only have the minimum buy-in so you're looking pretty good compared to them.
  61. 03:33:02: RioCadaro Only one other has as much as you do you notice.
  62. 03:35:27: RioCadaro Revas: 10 Charisma checks
  63. 03:35:34: Revas relaxes a little more for real once he sizes up the competition. Good, they don't look too dangerous and don't have too much of a headstart. They're older than him, and therefore probably more experienced, but he's fairly certain he can do this.
  64. 03:35:42: <Revas> 10#1d20+3
  65. 03:35:44: <DiceMaid-9001> Revas, 10#1d20+3: 5 [1d20=2], 13 [1d20=10], 20 [1d20=17], 6 [1d20=3], 21 [1d20=18], 11 [1d20=8], 20 [1d20=17], 4 [1d20=1], 19 [1d20=16], 13 [1d20=10]
  66. 03:37:49: RioCadaro As the game begins, your pre-game jitters come back as you lose your mental focus on the size of the chips. It doesn't help that they outright keep saying the amount they're putting down. After a few significant losses you decide to stick to Calling and Folding when it seemed smart to do so. You became an opportunist, as you are naturally, and manage to bluff two of the players
  67. 03:37:49: RioCadaro into going "All In". You sly dog....straight flush and a bit risky but two pair, Aces and Jacks, wins you their pots. (+100,000)
  68. 03:38:21: <RioCadaro> (Give you a taste of what to expect next time ;))
  69. 03:39:55: <Revas> (Oh jeez)
  70. 03:40:10: <RioCadaro> (What do you think? You like where you're going so far? :P)
  71. 03:40:23: <RioCadaro> Does seem more Revas's speed, grizzly in the poker table
  72. 03:41:45: <Revas> It is. Once he gets into the swing of things and gets over his own nerves... well, off he goes. It's his job, to read people, to lie to people, to benefit from people. He is capable of this.
  73. 03:41:52: <Revas> (Indeed)
  74. 03:42:11: <RioCadaro> And from the looks of it, he may get just what he's come looking for
  75. 03:42:17: <RioCadaro> We'll see how it plays out :P
