  1. NOTE: There will be some distinct changes from the FreeCal sourcebook. Nothing written in that is set in stone, but will provide a good guideline to how things in California are at the moment. Considering things from it have been retconned and contradicted already in later material, it shouldn't be much of an issue.
  2.
  3. The policing force of Night City is comprised of the NCPD (A local city-owned asset which manages the various policing contracts in the city. Lonestar, Renraku, etc, all are required to wear NCPD markings in addition to their corporate insignias) which handles most non-dissident crime in the city. On the other hand is the IJOF (Imperial Japanese Occupation Force, often pronounced "Eye-joff") which handles all matters related to the Japanese occupation of coastal California, which includes suppressing dissent, conducting combat operations, and occasionally assisting NCPD forces with the larger threats.
  4.
  5. A summery of each district:
  6.
  7. -Westbrook is a gated off corporate suburb inhabited by the second-echelon rich of NC. It is policed by a cooperation of Renraku and Lonestar forces that operate independent of the NCPD.
  8.
  9. -North Oak is the core of the IJOF in Night City, and as such has the highest military presence. Most production and commerce in the district are geared toward military production, and selling to servicemen and their families. Only the IJOF polices North Oak.
  10.
  11. -The City Center is the hub of Night City, and cultural hotspot. Both the IJOF and NCPD maintain a presence in the City Center, almost equally.
  12.
  13. -South Night City is the poorest district of the city, filled with burnt out industrial complexes and failed urban developments. In the center of South Night City lies the Combat Zone, which the NCPD actively avoids, and the IJOF only enters when decked with IFVs and attack helicopters. IJOF patrols are rare in South Night City, and policing is largely in the hands of NCPD contracted units.
  14.
  15. -Heywood is a light industrial district with a relatively okay standard of living. It has a little of everything, housing, retail shopping, a few parks, and a Mitsuhama dominated suburb known as "Apple Corporate Valley." IJOF presence is common in Heywood, but the day-to-day policing is still largely handled by the NCPD, with the exception of the Apple Corporate Valley which is policed by private Mitsuhama forces.
  16.
  17. -Rancho Coronado is a series of sprawling suburbs littered with minimalls. It is inhabited by the lower-middle class of Night City in housing that is largely corporate subsidized. While one of the safest places in the city outside of Westbrook, RC as of recent has been subject to terror attacks in increasing ferocity, prompting a heavier IJOF presence (Much to the dismay of its residents). The IJOF and Renraku forces form the cooperative security force which patrol the streets of RC.
  18.
  19. -Pacifica is an upper class residential and commercial area, and the main tourist center of the Night City Sprawl. It features many theme parks, beaches, museums, restaurants, and the famous Pacifica Arcology.
  20.
  21. PARAMILITARY AND TERRORIST FORCES ACTIVE IN NC:
  22. The Metahuman Liberation Army (MLA) - Largely metahuman membership, opposed to Japanese occupation and treatment of metas, communist sympathies.
  23.
  24. The California Independence Front (CIF) - Anti Japanese nationalists, oppose all things Japanese. Typically centrict in ideology, though varies heavily. Only unifying goal is getting Japan and Japancorps out of California.
  25.
  26. The National Front (NF) - A group which resulted in a radical split from the CIF. The NF is a far right anti-democratic, anti-corporate, anti-metahuman, and anti-Japanese paramilitary group in support of a fascist-esque government in California.
  27.
  28. Human Nation - A radical pro-human policlub which wishes to implement apartheid-like segregation in the Free State of California. The group is currently split on the Japanese issue, but find them tolerable as long as they keep the orks away from their burbclaves. Though they typically don't take up arms, it's not uncommon to find connections between Human Nation and armed radical groups, specifically the NF.
