  1. 06[10:41] * Toadfoot_Feldepost jogs up to Jaeger and prods him on the shoulder. "You there, go get the rest of your vertically endowed mob! We must get these people back to the safety of the town somehow."
  2. [10:41] <theMarg0r> Up on the hill, the elven woman nods but doesn't seem willing or able to make the effort to get up. Personally I don't blame her.
  3. 06[10:42] * Samanhe will help Jen get the injured elf up, carrying her over each of their shoulders so she doesn't have to put weight on her feet.
  4. [10:42] <Jaeger> Jaeger glances at Feldepost and nods, before rising to his feet, lifting one of the priests as he does and carries him/her out of the tunnel. "We could use some carrying help over here!" he shouts to the rest of the party
  5. 06[10:43] * Kat sighs. She's probably not going to get out of this one.
  6. 01[10:46] <Kat> "So what's wrong with these clerics' legs again?"
  7. [10:47] <Jaeger> "They're unconcious." the half-orc answers plainly
  8. 01[10:49] <Kat> "Doesn't mean their legs don't work" She grumbles.
  9. 06[10:49] * Kat grabs a cleric around the waist, carrying him like a burlap sack.
  10. 06[10:50] * Kat looks around at the others. "We should get a wheelbarrow."
  11. 06[10:56] * Toadfoot_Feldepost sticks to Ana and whatever she elects to do to help these unfortunates. :V
  12. [11:10] <theMarg0r> As you are transporting the unfortunates back to town, Feldepost helping the decidedly minute Mogogol, who might even be smaller than him, Ana the taller but not much heavier Undine, Jaeger the middle-aged woman and decidedly elderly priest, and Kat with a wheelbarrow, piling the two temple guards into it.
  13. 06[11:11] * Toadfoot_Feldepost quickly starts puffing and grunting under the load. "You should have hired some muscle," he tells Ana.
  14. [11:17] <theMarg0r> The Half-orc in Kat's wheelbarrow starts grunting and twitching.
  15. 01[11:17] <Kat> "Oh, this one is waking up." She tilts the wheelbarrow and dumps the two out of it.
  16. [11:19] <theMarg0r> "AAAAAAAAAAA!" he jumps up, hunched over like a cornered animal prepared to pounce, then falls over again because his legs haven't caught up in the waking up process with the rest of his body yet. "AAAAAFUCK!"
  17. [11:19] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Ah, splendid. If he can walk, maybe this one can take his place," Feldepost huffs, shifting his grip under the mogogol priest.
  18. 06[11:19] * Kat then puts the other one back in the wheelbarrow.
  19. [11:19] <theMarg0r> The other guard moans weakly.
  20. 01[11:19] <Kat> "Nah, you're doing fine."
  21. [11:20] <Jaeger> Jaeger moves over towards the half-orc, speaking in Orcish. "Calm down, ya guppy."
  22. [11:20] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Aaaah!" Feldepost echoes, staggering back from the screaming half-orc.
  23. [11:20] <theMarg0r> "WHAT DEVILRY IS THIS? WAS I BURIED ALIVE?" he turns over. "NO WAIT I WAS JUST FACE DOWN."
  24. [11:21] <theMarg0r> "Wait, no, wait..." he calms down somewhat.
  25. [11:21] <Jaeger> "... Idiot." Jaeger grumbles
  26. [11:21] <theMarg0r> "What is this and where am I? None of you look like our attacker."
  27. 01[11:21] <Kat> "The attacker has been taken care of. We're going back to town now."
  28. 06[11:22] * Toadfoot_Feldepost looks prepared to dump his charge on the ground and leg it. "Well, uh, wwwwhat would your attacker look like?"
  29. [11:24] <theMarg0r> He looks taller but thinner than Jaeger. "Uh, shorter than me, but taller than anyone else. Long dark coat, wide hat. Maliki knocked his hat off... and his glasses. Then it was clear his skin was paler than any man's, and his eyes had no pupils. No hair on his head either, but his face and scalp were covered with tattoos."
  30. [11:24] <theMarg0r> He sits up. "The clergy! What of the clergy!"
  31. [11:25] <Ana> "These glasses?" Ana asks quietly, bringing them out of her pocket. "I found them on the floor."
  32. [11:25] <Jaeger> Jaeger lifts the two he's carrying as much as he can from what he's doing already "A couple of them here."
  33. 01[11:25] <Kat> "An excitable one, isn't he."
  34. [11:26] <theMarg0r> "Yes, these." he nods and picks himself up, dusting himself off. "That's everyone except Maliki." he takes count of the bodies.
  35. 06[11:26] * Toadfoot_Feldepost staggers up to Kat's wheelbarrow and tries to slide the mogogol priest on top of the groaning guard.
  36. [11:26] <theMarg0r> "I think the attacker killed him when the dart bounced off his carpace, but I don't know how."
  37. 06[11:27] * Kat picks up Toadfoot and his charge and tosses them both into the wheelbarrow.
  38. [11:28] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Whuaah!"
  39. [11:28] <Ana> "Boss-!" Ana turns from looking at the glasses in the light of day towards the cry of Feldepost
  40. [11:30] <theMarg0r> More groans come out of the wheelbarrow. "Lance? Lance! Why am I covered in frogs? Anyone?"
  41. [11:30] <theMarg0r> "It's fine, Maria. You're not in Hell. We're going back to town. Everyone's alive." pause "Except Maliki." replies the Half-orc.
  42. 01[11:30] <Kat> "Oh, this one is awake too." She tips the wheelbarrow again.
  43. [11:30] <theMarg0r> "Poor Maliki, he was the best of us."
  44. [11:31] <theMarg0r> Maria lands on top of Feldepost and the other frog-person. She's NOT light.
  45. [11:31] <theMarg0r> "Hey! Are you sure I'm NOT in hell?"
  46. [11:31] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Mmmmfph!"
  47. [11:32] <Ana> ...Ana can't restrain herself from giggles.
  48. 01[11:33] <Kat> "Guess we don't need this anymore." She dumps the wheelbarrow on the side of the road.
  49. 06[11:33] * Toadfoot_Feldepost wiggles his way out from within the cleric sandwich and rolls onto the ground. "I say!" - He clambers to his feet and smooths out his clothes. "Ana, would you please instruct your cr- uh, people to be less heavy-handed with my person!"
  50. [11:34] <theMarg0r> "Sorry, um... sorry. Maybe whoever's driving should watch where they're going." Maria gets up and comes face to face with Kat. She's tall, tan, and naturally dark-haired. "Who ARE you, anyway. Hey!" she grabs Kat by the shoulder and turns her towards herself. "Look at me when I'm talking to you!"
  51. 06[11:35] * Kat grabs her by the shoulder, hard. "I would suggest you think more carefully before doing that again." She locks eyes with the woman.
  52. [11:37] <theMarg0r> Maria blinks and lets go. She still looks grim, but stays silent and doesn't maintain eye contact.
  53. 06[11:38] * Kat smiles. "Now that we understand each other, we're the people that put a stop to this mess.{"
  54. [11:39] <theMarg0r> "Thanks, I guess." she tries to break away.
  55. 06[11:39] * Kat lets her go. Her point has been mae.
  56. 01[11:39] <Kat> made*
  57. [11:41] <theMarg0r> Maria lets Kat get ahead and then she thrusts her head in her direction, with her fists clenched. Again, behind her back. Lance makes a face that could be anything from mild amusement to mild disgust.
  58. [11:41] <Jaeger> Jaeger looks at the people who were awake "The least you could do is say thanks for carrying your sorry asses out of that crypt." he tells them simply... actually by his tone it sounds like he's scolding them.
  59. 06[11:43] * Toadfoot_Feldepost steps into the middle of the gaggle and clears his throat loudly. "Ahurm, yes, quite. But now the most important thing is getting your fellows back to safety. In mean time, why don't you tell us exactly how you came to be sedated in that unseemly place?"
  60. [11:44] <theMarg0r> "Sorry. The place of rest has been defiled, and I failed at my sworn duty to protect the priesthood of Pharasma... I'm a bit on edge. Thank you, brother. Thank you, EVERYONE!" Lance starts off sounding quiet and ashamed, but as his goes on, his voice sounds stronger. Maria keeps acting insulted.
  61. [11:46] <theMarg0r> "Yes, Mr. Fr- um, Toa-, sorry, I didn't ask your name." he clears his throat. "The priests were ready to perform the final funeral rites for the governor's mother. Nothing that would attract a public parade, but important nonetheless, you understand."
  62. [11:47] <Ana> "I'm just glad most of you are okay... I didn't think we'd find anyone alive." Ana smiles.
  63. 06[11:48] * Toadfoot_Feldepost purses his lips with irritation as the man stumbles halfway through the amphibian monikers. "Feldepost." - He nods curtly. "Tofor Feldepost."
  64. [11:49] <Jaeger> Jaeger smiles, faintly, as Lance thanked them, and did the same in return. "Thank you."
  65. [11:50] <theMarg0r> "That's when the music started, and the final resting place has been DESECRATED! The DEAD walked AGAIN! First, we all cursed the Gravekeeper, and tried to find him, but our way was barred by the awakened dead, and the dark stranger. Me, Maria, and Maliki started cleaving our way through them, but the stranger was powerful, and had a weapon, like a pistol, but it shot darts, silently. As I...
  66. [11:50] <theMarg0r> ...said, Maliki managed to knock off his hat, and his glasses, but that wasn't the only trick up his sleeve. A wave of pain and fatigue overcame us, hasting the poison's progress, and Maliki had a hole burned through his chest by... I don't know what."
  67. [11:52] <theMarg0r> "We are only lucky that none of us ever fully trusted the Gravekeeper, and that the clerics always carry a scroll of ritual warding against the undead, and that they both managed to act in concert fast enough to put up the barrier, or we would've surely all died."
  68. [11:54] <theMarg0r> "..." Maria stops huffing and speaks up "Who brings a knockout poison THAT slow-acting and then starts shooting people in the FACE?"
  69. [11:54] <theMarg0r> "Good question."
  70. [11:55] <Jaeger> "Possibly the same figure who that boy said brought the elf girl with him?" Jaeger chimes
  71. 06[11:55] * Toadfoot_Feldepost nods again, more sombrely. "Quite... We didn't find anyone else alive in that crypt, I'm afraid. Just a tangle of body parts and a big, murderous crabby sort of fellow. Fortunately, he'd collapsed along with the rest of the awakened dead."
  72. [11:56] <theMarg0r> "Where? What girl? We only saw that one man, we didn't even see the Gravekeeper."
  73. [12:00] <Jaeger> Jaeger nods towards the half-gone elf girl with Jen and Sam "Her." he adjusts the two priests he's carrying "We saved a boy before reaching the graveyard, and he mentioned having seen a man bringing that girl to the Gravekeeper before this all happened. So, there we have the elf girl... but where is the man?"
  74. [12:00] <Ana> "The gate was locked from the inside..."
  75. [12:01] <theMarg0r> "Oh, that girl? I though that was one of you, gravely injured in the fierce battle." he looks back at Maria who's still at the back of the group. "Maria, do you know her?" Maria grimaces and shakes her head.
  76. [12:02] <theMarg0r> "Yes, we always lock the door not to be disturbed when performing funerary rites."
  77. [12:02] <theMarg0r> "It's really complicated, you know, for these high-class burials, there's a rite to be done back at the temple, and ANOTHER one in the Crypt's first chamber... but that doesn't matter now."
  78. [12:03] <theMarg0r> Maria rolls her eyes and makes a yapping mouth with her hand. First off, rude. Second, what is she, six years old?
  79. 06[12:06] * Toadfoot_Feldepost sidles up to Ana and nudges her, speaking at a whisper: "Hey, did you find what you sought? We're quite done with these ghoulish tombs, yes? We should just get a finder's fee from the church," he nods toward the wheelbarrow carrying the still unconscious clergy members, "and figure out our next move."
  80. [12:08] <Ana> She nods, and glances at him. "...Maybe we can get that oracular assistance we were hoping for..."
  81. [12:08] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> *nods toward the standing clergy members
  82. 06[12:11] * Toadfoot_Feldepost returns the nod with a look of relief. "That sounds infinitely preferable." - He takes a step forward and speaks up: "In any event, I'm sure the lot of you would rather return to your temple or what not to recuperate. Oh, and, uh..." - He looks at the elven girl. "You're the sort of people to take in a maiden in distress, I take it. I do fear the poor girl is quite distressed."
  83. [12:13] <theMarg0r> "That's enough, son, thank you." the old priest wakes. He sounds old, and has a big white beard and age marks. One can MARVEL at how he's the next one to wake up.
  84. [12:13] <theMarg0r> He firmly refuses any further assistance and looks down at Feldepost. "I'm sorry young man, I'm afraid I didn't quite catch that as my soul was throwing off the veil. Can you please repeat that?"
  85. [12:14] <theMarg0r> "Your holiness!" Maria rushes over to him but he brushes her off. Lance bows his head respectfully and lets out a sigh of relief.
  86. [12:15] <Jaeger> Jaeger coems to a brief hault as he lets the old man down, shifting the woman into a bridal hold as he resumes walking.
  87. 06[12:16] * Toadfoot_Feldepost looks up at the old priest with a bit of trepidation. "Er... That the girl is distressed?"
  88. [12:21] <theMarg0r> "I see." he strokes his beard. "She seems familiar... and definitely looks like she's been through a lot. Pharasma knows what." he pauses shortly and starts introducing himself. "My name is Morris Pendleton, high priest and caretaker of Pharasma. I take it you've already met Lance Knecht and Maria Corazon Santiago, our faithful guardians. The unfortunates still under the veil of small death...
  89. [12:21] <theMarg0r> ...are my daughter Millenia, our standing prophet, and our novices, Wiser... I'm sorry, Mogogol Wiser, and Bubbly." pause "Not his real name, but we respect him."
  90. [12:21] <theMarg0r> "What of Maliki?"
  91. [12:22] <theMarg0r> "Dead, your holiness."
  92. [12:22] <theMarg0r> He shakes his head "What a mess."
  93. 06[12:27] * Toadfoot_Feldepost makes a small bow. "Tofor Feldepost, how do you do," he says perfunctorily. "Are you, ah, fit to walk, mr... father Pendleton?"
  94. [12:29] <theMarg0r> "I'll be fine, thank you." he folds his hands behind his back and shuffles on like it was no thing. He doesn't raise his feet very high, so they do keep dragging the ground, but he takes surprisingly long steps nonetheless.
  95. [12:29] <theMarg0r> Maria still tries to hang on to him, or rather, get him to hang on to her, but he doesn't let her. Through no physical force, he just looks at her.
  96. [12:30] <theMarg0r> Still better than her acting like an insulted pre-schooler, if you ask me.
  97. 06[12:30] * Kat keeps walking, uninterested in the proceedings.
  98. [12:32] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Good, uh... Well, on we go! Daylight's wasting and such. Heh." - Feldepost's awkwardly forced cheer is apparent. It's evident how he'd rather put all these zombies behind him.
  99. [12:33] <theMarg0r> Mr. father high priest caretaker father of one Morris Pendleton keeps talking to Lance on the way, and rebuffing Maria, unless someone interrupts them.
  100. [12:33] <theMarg0r> About how long it will take to fix the mess in the crypt, mostly.

  117. 06[15:13] * Kat is wandering around town. After the insanity of this morning, she's looking for a good place to take a nap.
  118. [15:16] <theMarg0r> Probably want to stay away from the docks, then. Turns out that every other dead and rotting thing in the bay suddenly getting up isn't pretty. There's some sort of ruckus near the center of town too, something about a dog and the governor being attacked by a slimy ghost. Those two occurences may or may not be unrelated.
  119. 06[15:19] * Kat does stay away from those places. Hard to take a nap around rotting corpses or poncy nobles. She heads to a quieter part of town, looking for a good patch of grass in the shade.
  120. [15:20] <theMarg0r> The fields to the west of town seem to be mostly untouched, and plenty of trees there.
  121. [15:20] <theMarg0r> The procession of priests and their guards continues south towards the temple regardless of who follows them.
  122. 06[15:21] * Kat goes out there and sits down, leaning against a tree.
  123. [15:29] <theMarg0r> Finally, some peace and quiet! The plantation workers are having a day off considering the exceptional circumstances. Also someone needs to clean up the shit at the docks. So not exactly a day off, but a break from the routine.
  124. 06[15:30] * Kat relaxes, and closes her eyes...
  125. 06[15:43] * Kat wakes up later, hungry and somewhat sleepy. Guess she'll have to go back to town and get something to eat.
  126. 06[15:44] * Kat straps her sword back on and goes back into town
  127. [15:51] <theMarg0r> Things have died down considerably (pun not intended), though there STILL seem to be occasional bragging contests on who had the greatest contribution in beating back the undead menace. You on the other hand can rest easy in the knowledge that you cut it down at the source. You can eat easy in the knowledge as well.
  128. 06[15:52] * Kat doesn't really care about the prattling of idiots. She finds a place to get some food.
  129. [15:54] <theMarg0r> As chance would have it, you run into the two Mogogols from the temple. Mogogol Wiser, and... the other one, the tall one from the bank.
  130. [15:56] <theMarg0r> "Yoo!" says the taller one "Many thanksh for bringing my brothersh back shafely, yesh, if we can do anyshink to repay yoo, just ashks, yesh."
  131. 06[15:56] * Kat shrugs. "Don't worry about it, I was just there for the fight."
  132. [15:57] <theMarg0r> "I don't shinkhs we been introduced, my name ish "Mogogol who converted to Pharashma", yesh, and Mogogol Wiser ish my brothersh."
  133. [15:58] <theMarg0r> "Don't ashks him about hish full name, ish embarrashink. Ish reason why they callsh me "Mogogol Wiser", though, yesh."
  134. 01[15:59] <Kat> "Alright, I won't."
  135. 01[16:02] <Kat> "So, where's a good place to eat around here?"
  136. [16:05] <theMarg0r> "Yoo wantsh food? Yesh! Ish good local food. Relativesh. We takesh yoo." Mogogols are vegetarian, though, but as long as Kat doesn't have a chronic need to devour another living being for sustenance every 24 hours, it's good.
  137. 01[16:06] <Kat> "Sure, that's fine."
  138. [16:09] <theMarg0r> The brothers whisper something to each other, then Converted speaks up "Yesh! The prieshtesh wantsh yoo to know, shome of your companionsh wantsh to have their fortunesh told, and yoo are welcomesh to a free reading, if yoo wantsh."
  139. [16:09] <theMarg0r> "Propheciesh, not fortune tellingsh."
  140. [16:09] <theMarg0r> "Shame thingsh."
  141. [16:09] <theMarg0r> "Thish is why I'm Wiser."
  142. 01[16:10] <Kat> "Hm, might be interesting, even if my master told me that prophecy is the realm of those who believe themselves to have the power to shape destiny."
  143. 01[16:11] <Kat> "But in, you know, a negative way. Like, if they could actually shape destiny they wouldn't care about prophecies."
  144. 01[16:14] <Kat> "I'm overexplaining again. Let's get food and then go see the priests."
  145. [16:17] <theMarg0r> "Pharashma ish the goddess of fatesh. If there'sh any propheciesh yoo should trustsh in, it's thish." says the shorter one.
  146. [16:17] <theMarg0r> "Yesh, let'sh eat." simply adds his brother.
  147. 06[16:17] * Kat scoffs internally at the idea of gods being reliable, but follows them.
  148. [16:22] <theMarg0r> Despite being meat-free, it STILL manages to be pretty filling. And spicy. There seems to be some local competition between Mogogol cuisine and Karkanak food (who DO eat meat, and use less imported ingredients), but who cares.
  149. 01[16:23] <Kat> Not Kat, that's for sure.
  150. 01[16:23] <Kat> "That was pretty good. On to the temple now?"
  151. [16:24] <theMarg0r> "If you wantsh to, yesh. Should be aboutsh ready now."
  152. 01[16:25] <Kat> "Then let's see what Pharasma has to say with those tight lips of hers."
  153. [16:27] <theMarg0r> Mogogol Converted seems to tense up but doesn't say anything.
  154. [16:33] <theMarg0r> A grey blocky two-story building with almost no windows on the ground floor, aside from the ones right to the sides of the entrance, the local temple of Pharasma would be an almost unassuming structure if it weren't for the fact that it completely stands out from everything else built on the island, except for maybe the crypts. Also the fact that the spiral above the door is made of a giant...
  155. [16:33] <theMarg0r> ...nautilus shell is a nice touch that gives it a little more of that colonial flavor.
  156. 06[16:34] * Kat nods as they go inside.
  157. [16:36] <theMarg0r> Past the antechamber, all illumination is given by white magic lights. At the stairs to the second floor, you see Lance standing with his arms crossed. He nods when he sees you come in. "Waitsh here." say the Mogogols. "We'll tell the prieshtesh you came." they go upstairs.
  158. 06[16:36] * Kat leans agains the wall.
  159. [16:37] <theMarg0r> Lance eyes you. Either the protocol for guards at attention isn't as strict here, or he just doesn't give a shit.
  160. 06[16:38] * Kat smirks. "See something you like?"
  161. [16:42] <theMarg0r> "I was admiring your armor. It's a fine piece of work. Expertly crafted, but no mark of military allegiance or religious affiliation. A bit darker than most, too."
  162. [16:42] <theMarg0r> "Almost looks like it was made for sneaking around."
  163. 01[16:43] <Kat> "Sneaking isn't quite right, but the rest is correct. It's made for the warrior who swears alleigance to none but themselves. My master gifted it to me before I departed."
  164. [16:46] <theMarg0r> The Mogogols come back down. Lance nods again. "Right, up you go. When you get up there, turn around and through the curtain. Don't ask me why the room for public visits isn't on the first floor, or at least facing the stairs, I didn't build it."
  165. [16:47] <theMarg0r> "At least it has windows."
  166. 01[16:54] <Kat> “Well, there is that.”
  167. 06[16:56] * Kat goes up to the visiting room
  168. [16:59] <theMarg0r> You enter the room, and sure enough, there's the priestess, Millenia Pendleton if you remember correctly. All in black and silver, with a hood on. The windows are ALSO covered with curtains, but they let just enough light through to shine on the table in the middle of the room. Also you're pretty sure that some advanced mirror work had to go into the windows behind those curtains because...
  169. [16:59] <theMarg0r> ...that's not where the sunlight should be coming from at this time of day. Or magic, but it DOES look like natural sunlight.
  170. [17:00] <theMarg0r> The room is dead silent except for the slight sound of shuffling cards, because she is in fact shuffling the cards as you are entering.
  171. [17:00] <theMarg0r> No fancy moves, this isn't a magic show. Just old-fashioned shuffle.
  172. 06[17:01] * Kat sits down in front of the priestess
  173. [17:02] <theMarg0r> The seat is made of stone. Everything seems to be made of stone, sometimes with some cloth draped over it.
  174. [17:04] <theMarg0r> "Welcome." she says, quietly but clearly. "Is there something you wish to ask of fate, or will fate itself choose the paths it reveals to you?"
  175. 01[17:05] <Kat> “I want to see what fate thinks about me.”
  176. 02[17:08] * Jenifer_Teague ([email protected]) Quit (Ping timeout)
  177. 03[17:08] * Jenifer_Teague ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  178. [17:11] <theMarg0r> She silently deals nine cards, in a three by three pattern, then turns over the left-most column (from your point of view), all at once. Top to bottom (again, from your point of view) the cards show multicolored will-o-wisps in a swamp, a nomad sitting on the paw of a huge Sphinx in the desert, and criminals with faces of crows around a table, splitting loot.
  179. 06[17:13] * Kat rests her head on her hands, looking at the cards and the priestess
  180. [17:15] <theMarg0r> "The crows". She points at the bottom-most card (which is actually farthest away from her), and wow ok, she actually has silver nail polish. Anyway. "You've experienced a tragic, unjust loss in your past. Or perhaps you're the one who's lost." she points at the middle card. "The desert - you've been thrust into a hostile environment where you had no business being, and you would've surely...
  181. [17:15] <theMarg0r> ...been lost without help, but." she points at the last card, closest to her "The Demon's lantern, as misaligned as it could be, you've received a message, guidance, or instruction from the most unlikeliest of places, but it has been purely for your benefit."
  182. 06[17:16] * Kat smiles. “So far, so good.”
  183. [17:18] <theMarg0r> "Now, let's take a look at what fate "thinks" about your present." she flips over the middle row. On the top one, an injured, bandaged figure sitting on a throne, surrounded by faceless, monochrome humanoid shapes tending him. In the middle... a bear on a unicycle? On the bottom card, an eyeless, white-haired hag of unnatural skin color holding an eyeball in her teeth.
  184. [17:23] <theMarg0r> "The survivor." she takes it from the top this time. "The loss suffered in the past will not be as permanent as once thought. You'll shortly either find yourself, or someone from your past will find you. Perhaps it already happened." She points at the bear. "At the present time, you ARE the Bear - pure, raw strength. Anyone who tries to tame you should watch out." now the bottom card. "The...
  185. [17:23] <theMarg0r> ...mute hag. Your GREATEST THREAT right now is miscommunication, or buried secrets from the past. Take care, so you don't squander your one chance to find your past, or be found. Do not lash out with your great might against the connection to your past."
  186. 06[17:26] * Kat nods. “Interesting. Continue.”
  187. [17:31] <theMarg0r> She flips over the final column. It shows, from the top, a great dragon coiling around an entire world, sticking its claws in it, the planet is bleeding. In the middle, two smiling figures facing each other, one has black hair, a red shirt, and green pants. The other one has an inverted color scheme and is holding a dagger behind its back. On the bottom card, a figure is chained, hanging...
  188. [17:31] <theMarg0r> ...upside down above a vat of boiling... wax? She takes it from the bottom again, and yeah, it's wax. "The future will take you into a place of suffering, physical, mental, or emotional imprisonment - or perhaps all three - the Waxworks, in perfect alignment. Once there, you will face either indecision on your own part as you will be torn between two options, like the Twins." she fluidly...
  189. [17:31] <theMarg0r> ...moves on to the middle card and keeps going "or you will come to blows with someone of vastly different opinions themselves. In the end, a literal tyrant - for that is what the card shows, the Tyrant, misaligned - will either be dethroned, revealed for what they are... or both." she finishes with a dramatic pause.
  190. [17:31] <theMarg0r> She leaves the cards there and lets you process all that.
  191. 06[17:32] * Kat stares at the cards for a few moments, before standing up and leaving. “That was interesting.”
  192. [17:33] <theMarg0r> Upon leaving, Lance doesn't physically stop you but addresses you. "Sooooo... how was it?" the Mogogolio brothers are nowhere to be seen.
  193. 01[17:34] <Kat> “Interesting. The past was fairly accurate, the present was shrouded in mysteries, and the future was vague.”
  194. [17:36] <theMarg0r> "Hah! That sounds about right."
  195. 06[17:37] * Kat smiles. “I look forward to testing my might against prophecy though. That’s a foe I haven’t had the chance to slay yet.”
  196. [17:38] <theMarg0r> "Well, like we say in the old country, good hunting!"
  197. 06[17:39] * Kat smirks, and leaves.

  206. Session Ident: #DDPFIC
  207. 03[07:51] * Now talking in #DDPFIC
  208. [07:52] <theMarg0r> "If there is something you have lost and wish found, perhaps fate could point you in the right direction. Let us see..." she deals you nine cards in a three by three spread.
  209. 06[07:54] * Jenifer_Teague nods, sitting down. "...my little Sister. She vanished long ago...I hope she's..." She takes a breath. "Still alive."
  210. [07:55] <theMarg0r> The turns over the left-most column. The cards show, from top to bottom, a unicorn lying in grass with a pear impaled on its horn, a cricket in a flashy white suit, who just happens to also be shuffling cards (I'd make a cardception joke, except oh wait, I already did), and a group of crow-faced bandits, dividing up their loot.
  211. 06[08:00] * Jenifer_Teague raises an eyebrow
  212. [08:03] <theMarg0r> "So the cards show." she nods and points at the crows card. She also has silver nail-polish. How novel, most people would expect black, probably. "The Crows card signifies a loss you have suffered in the past, that has hit you hard." to change things up, she skips over the middle card and points at the top one. "Yet the Unicorn shows that you still come from a place of great prosperity,...
  213. [08:03] <theMarg0r> ...never suffering from a great need." now she points at the middle card "Yet still, you've never been satisfied, and your family's resources, as well as the drive to find what you've lost, has set you on a speedy path towards your goal - the Cricket. This card also shows that there is indeed a treasure at the end of this path you've set upon. Will it be literal gold at the end of the...
  214. [08:03] <theMarg0r> ...rainbow? Or perhaps your lost family member, a treasure you still hold in your heart."
  215. 06[08:06] * Jenifer_Teague nods
  216. [08:06] <theMarg0r> She turns over the middle cards, representing the present. Again, top to bottom, they show a shady-looking fellow with a hood, pulling a severed hand from under his cloak with its fingertips replaced by keys, in the middle, what can definitely and unambiguously only be a Trumpet Archon, and finally, a white serpent with wings of rainbow feathers.
  217. [08:11] <theMarg0r> "It seems like there is no better time to act than the present." she starts with the top card "The locksmith is giving you the tools you need to achieve your goal. Fate is showing you the door, but you must walk through it yourself." on to the middle card "Right now, you are as the Trumpet - a forceful, driving agent, coming in power and glory, driving others in your presence to new heights....
  218. [08:11] <theMarg0r> ...But in his ambiguous position in the middle, the trumpeter should beware - the higher you fly, the longer and more painful the fall."
  219. 06[08:12] * Jenifer_Teague grins "IF I fall."
  220. [08:14] <theMarg0r> "Finally." on to the winged snake at the bottom "The opportunity given to you by the Locksmith may not repeat itself. The Winged Serpent, misaligned, shows a clear and very present danger of not seizing the moment, or doing so ill-advisedly." the final trio of cards gets flipped. "Let us see what the future holds for you - and possibly your sister as well."
  221. [08:17] <theMarg0r> The last three cards show, again, from top to bottom, a couple of ragged slaves, breaking their shackles under a clear sky, two very similar figures, one dark-haired, with a red shirt and green pants, the other one white-haired, with an inverted color scheme, holding a dagger behind his back. And hey what do you know, a man chained up, hanging upside down above a vat of boiling wax. It must...
  222. [08:17] <theMarg0r> ...be fate!
  223. 03[08:18] * Samanhe ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  224. [08:20] <theMarg0r> "In a place of great punishment and imprisonment - the Waxworks, your souls will be at odds, as the Twins once were, but should all go well, there is a promise of great liberation and freedom for many people, as the Big Sky shows." wow, she really blazed through THOSE cards.
  225. 06[08:22] * Jenifer_Teague nods "The first part makes sense. I'm staying in the same inn as Kat." She chuckles. "Thanks. A lot."
  226. [08:25] <theMarg0r> She nods. "Her reading was also most interesting. You should probably talk to her about it. I wish I could, but there is a strict code against revealing details of one person's reading to another. That's all I can say about it. May the deck of fate forever be stacked in your favor."
  227. [08:26] <Jenifer_Teague> "So like every time I play poker?" She nods. "It's been a pleasure."
  228. 06[08:30] * Jenifer_Teague heads outside, looking for is Sammy is still about, or if anyone else is.
  229. 06[08:33] * Samanhe is nearby, leaning against a wall and otherwise lazing about while waiting for the privateer. "Ya get yer future all spooked out?" she drawls.
  230. [08:34] <Jenifer_Teague> "Yep. I'm destined for greatness."
  231. 06[08:34] * Samanhe rolls her eyes. "So ain't nothin' different than what ya already knew, then. I toldja this was all a buncha hooey."
  232. [08:35] <Jenifer_Teague> "Too bad, still want see what you get~"
  233. [08:38] <Samanhe> She huffs a sigh and rolls her eyes. "Fine, fine, if it'll getcha ta lay off about the stupid cards I'll go. Just so ya know, I put no stock in what hucksters like these folk say." She levers herself off the wall and ambles past Jen, into the room.
  234. [08:40] <theMarg0r> The priestess sits there, reshuffling the cards, waiting for you. Somehow. Everything else is as Jen left it, except the beam of light illuminating the table is now slightly off-center. Hopefully that's not a problem.
  235. [08:41] <theMarg0r> "Welcome. Do you wish to ask fate a specific question, or will you let fate itself decide what to show you?"
  236. 03[08:41] * Ana ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  237. [08:42] <Samanhe> "I got nothin' ta ask, I s'pose, so whatever for the latter there. Anything ya want me ta do, or just have a sit?"
  238. [08:43] <theMarg0r> She silently points for you to sit down and deals you that three-by-three spread.
  239. 06[08:43] * Samanhe takes a seat and watches, affecting an almost bored air.
  240. [08:46] <theMarg0r> "Let us see where you come from." she says as soon as you sit down and flips over the left-most column of cards. From top to bottom, they show an exotic dancer, twirling amidst what look like the planets of a solar system, an owl, holding a thread and needle in its beak, and a crocodile-headed humanoid in a fancy suit, drinking tea while sitting on the back of a naked body. Okay then.
  241. [08:47] <Samanhe> Her eyebrows draw together in confusion, though she remains respectfully silent.
  242. [08:55] <theMarg0r> She wastes no time in taking it from the top this time. "You are from a place of great order and harmony, where everyone knows their place and the steps they need to take - much like in the Dance - without stepping on each others' toes." she taps her finger on the middle card. "Yet it is also a place where all know and obey the wisdom and inevitability of the rules of nature, wind blows,...
  243. [08:55] <theMarg0r> ...rain falls, the strong prey on the weak. Such is the wisdom of the Owl." she looks up from the cards and at you for a moment. "Judging from this combination, I'm guessing you are from a rural, colonial community. A farm or a ranch, perhaps?"
  244. 03[08:56] * Emo_Duck ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  245. 03[08:56] * Emo_Duck is now known as Toadfoot_Feldepost
  246. [08:57] <Samanhe> She nods. "Grew up on a farm, yeah."
  247. [09:00] <theMarg0r> She looks down at the cards and continues. "And yet this strong communal upbringing may have caused, or may still cause you to act as a slave to a less beneficient, less productive ideal. Do be careful about that, but enough about the past, let's see about your present course." she flips over the middle cards.
  248. 06[09:02] * Samanhe frowns.
  249. [09:02] <theMarg0r> Again, top to bottom, the cards show a green-eyed snakewoman holding a bouquet of roses, what appears to be a castle with legs - and arms, and a knight in shining armor offering a helping hand. Unconventionally (as far as you know) she points at the middle card first.
  250. 03[09:05] * Deedles is now known as Jaeger
  251. [09:09] <theMarg0r> "At present time, you are as the Keep, the embodiment of quiet strength, one that stands strong in any storm, offering shelter and a stabilizing influence to all who need it." she then points at the bottom card, only to finish with the top one. "Your greatest potential downfall is pursuing a course of action that seems righteous and just, no matter the cost, much like the Paladin, but, as he...
  252. [09:09] <theMarg0r> ...appears misaligned, there is the risk of paving the road to hell with good intentions. Let your past guide you, not bind you. If you can prevail..." she moves on to the top card "You will either gain a new relationship, or renew and strenghten one you already have. A friend, or family, or someone from your community, perhaps, as the Liar also appears misaligned."
  253. [09:12] <theMarg0r> "Finally, let us see what your more long-term future prospects are." she flips over the final three cards. They are, in order of appearance from top to bottom: what appears to be a rockslide pushing a whole mess of carts, supplies, and animals, that on future inspection turns out to be some sort of golem or elemental sliding downhill face-first. In the middle, a dwarf with a flaming beard...
  254. [09:12] <theMarg0r> ...and hair, smoking a hookah, and finally, that's right, a bound person hanging upside down above a vat of boiling wax.
  255. [09:17] <theMarg0r> "Your travels will take you to a place of great pain and imprisonment - the Waxworks, where you will be faced with an oncoming disaster, but also the means to stop it - the Avalanche, misaligned." she starts at the bottom but once again, skips over the middle card to address the top one first. "The final card once again shows your strong resolve and sense of responsibility - the Brass Dwarf...
  256. [09:17] <theMarg0r> ...marks you as one who will either make it through this disaster alive and well, or who will sacrifice their own life and well-being so others may prosper. But will such a sacrifice even be necessary to stop this disaster? Or alternatively, will there be no other way to prevent it?"
  257. 06[09:19] * Samanhe shrugs.
  258. [09:21] <Samanhe> "Well...thanks, I guess?"
  259. 06[09:24] * Samanhe stands from the chair and heads out of the room.
  260. [09:25] <theMarg0r> The priestess prophetess middle-aged woman Millenia Pendleton just nods at you.
  261. [09:27] <Samanhe> Finding both Jen and now Jaeger in the hallway, she nods at them both. "Room's free, if'n ya wanna go on in," she says to the half orc, before rolling her eyes exaggeratedly at Jen.
  262. 06[09:28] * Jenifer_Teague grins "So, what did they say?~"
  263. [09:29] <Jaeger> Jaeger gained a faint smile, possibly in amusement at Sam having gotten dragged into having a reading, despite what she'd previously said.
  264. [09:31] <Samanhe> "What'd she say? 'Oh, ya grew up onna farm, that's nice but just make sure it ain't made ya stupid an' stubborn. Also yer nice an' stable but don't be too much. Might make a new friend though. Also yer in fer danger ahead, but ya might manage ta win, or ya might die.' All a buncha vague hogwash, coulda worked fer anyone, if'n ya ask me."
  265. 06[09:31] * Samanhe rolls her eyes again.
  266. [09:31] <Jenifer_Teague> "Gee, I WONDER how they'd have possibly worked out you grew up on a farm~"
  267. 06[09:33] * Samanhe glares at Jen. "That's why I said it was vague. I toldja this was a waste o' time."
  268. [09:34] <Jaeger> "Things like these are as meaningful as you make them." Jaeger rumbled calmly as he moved towards the curtains, but didn't enter.
  269. [09:35] <theMarg0r> Well-trained ears may hear the shuffling of cards on the other side, but not much else.
  270. [09:35] <Samanhe> "Then you'll pardon me if'n I don't hold it very meaningful-like."
  271. [09:35] <Jenifer_Teague> "Ah hah~ Would you prefer if we'd gone to a wizard? So he can tell the future with paper and ink?"
  272. [09:36] <Jaeger> "That's a pity." the half-orc replied for the farm girl.
  273. [09:36] <Samanhe> "I don't put stock in *nobody* who thinks they can tell the future."
  274. [09:37] <Jenifer_Teague> "Oh yeah? I can predict what's going to happen now."
  275. [09:39] <Samanhe> She gives Jen a Look. "If ya say somethin' along the lines of 'I knew you were gonna say that' I'm feedin' ya ta Kat."
  276. [09:40] <Jenifer_Teague> "...how would that even WORK?"
  277. [09:41] <Jaeger> Jaeger watched them for a moment and then turned to fully face the curtains, moving past them.
  278. [09:42] <Samanhe> "I dunno but I'll figure out a way."
  279. 06[09:43] * Jenifer_Teague shakes her head "...like, seriously...what would you do? Tell her you'd found one Jen worth of Angel Cake?"
  280. [09:43] <theMarg0r> Still shuffling the cards, probably more for effect than anything else at this point, the priestess sits there still. "Welcome. Is there something you would ask of fate, or will you allow fate itself to decide what to reveal to you?"
  281. [09:43] <Samanhe> "Maybe I meant it all metaphorical-like."
  282. 02[09:43] * Jaeger ([email protected]) Quit (Quit: Beware of programmers who carry screwdrivers.)
  283. [09:44] <Jenifer_Teague> "Then what's it even a metaphor for? How can 'Kat eating me' work as metaphor?" She leans back against a wall, raising an eyebrow.
  284. [09:45] <Samanhe> "Ya know how she's all grumpy-like all the time? I tell her ya dun somethin' like this an' she'll get that all superior attitude and belittle ya fer a week."
  285. [09:46] <Jenifer_Teague> "How does that differ from what she's going to do anyway? This IS Kat we are talking about."
  286. [09:47] <Samanhe> "That's my point."
  287. [09:49] <Jenifer_Teague> "...wait, so your point is that you are threatening me with Kat doing something she's going to do anyway?"
  288. [09:50] <Samanhe> "My point is that I'm gonna tell her ya tried some lame joke about perg--prom--progno...prognosticatin' and see how she handles that one."
  289. 06[09:50] * Samanhe looks vaguely disgusted with herself for taking too long to think of the right word.
  290. [09:51] <Jenifer_Teague> "I was just going to say that I predict we are going drinking."
  291. 03[09:52] * Deedles ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  292. [09:53] <Deedles> Jaeger seated himself by the table "I've always followed the whims of fate, no use changing that now." he replied
  293. [09:56] <Samanhe> She sighs. "Not much of a prediction there. Alright, yer saved from the likes o' Kat. Let's go."
  294. [09:57] <Jenifer_Teague> "I also knew that you couldn't stay mad at me." She grins brilliantly. "I CAN see the future~"
  295. 06[09:57] * Samanhe socks her in the shoulder, though she can't help but smile a little.
  296. [09:58] <theMarg0r> "Very well." she nods and deals you a three-by-three spread. "Let us see what fate chooses to reveal about your past." she turns over the left-most column of cards, revealing a giant stepping over a forest, happily juggling what appears to be an elephant, a clocktower, a boat, and a rock. Under that display is some sort of undead creature in rusty armor, with a plume of smoke coming out of...
  297. [09:58] <theMarg0r> ...the top of its helmet, and in the bottom left corner, a field of thorny vines, with a dried-up skeleton tied to a pole in the middle like a scarecrow.
  298. 06[09:59] * Jenifer_Teague winces "Hey, stop that. You hit like...do cows kick well?"
  299. [09:59] <Samanhe> "Well, ya don't wanna be behind when if they do, but they're not the worst."
  300. [10:00] <Deedles> Jaeger looked at the cards in silence, his good eye moving down one in turn.
  301. [10:01] <Jenifer_Teague> "Then you hit like a cow." She sticks out her tongue.
  302. 03[10:02] * Deedles is now known as Jaeger
  303. [10:07] <theMarg0r> She points at the bottom-most card. "If it is what you say, then this is no coincidence. The cards show the Tangled Briar - an ancient force from the distant past, conspiring against you, trying to tug strings of fate in the direction of your doom, perhaps." she moves on to the middle card "You are as the Lost, without a past, wandering the world, wondering about your place in the scheme of...
  304. [10:07] <theMarg0r> ...things. But perhaps..." she moves her hand over to the top-most card with a little more hope in her voice "... all is not as lost as it seems. Another force seems to work in opposition to the Tangled Briar, keeping a precarious balance, much like the act of the Juggler. It's true that you may have been orphaned, and therefore lost, but the cards tell that this was for your benefit and a...
  305. [10:07] <theMarg0r> ...much darker fate would've befallen you should you have been found."
  306. [10:09] <Jaeger> Jaeger lifted his gaze from the cards studying the seer for a couple of moments, before nodding.
  307. [10:12] <theMarg0r> "Let us see what the situation is as you face it in the present." she says and turns over the middle column. The cards show, top to bottom, a robed figure, wrapped in chains, but not bound by them, holding a folder with papers falling out of it in one hand, and pointing an accusing finger at you (or maybe it's just drawn to point in front of itself), in the middle, a blacksmith hammering on...
  308. [10:12] <theMarg0r> ...an anvil, with some sort of little fiery devils flying as sparks around him, and on the bottom, an odd pointy-eared fellow in a turban, with a monkey on his shoulder, with all sorts of goods and bags hanging off him, and a golden necklace in his hand.
  309. [10:17] <Jaeger> His eye flickers to the necklace, but other than that he simply studies the cards as he did the previous three. "Hmm..."
  310. [10:18] <theMarg0r> She starts from the top this time. "The Inquisitor - the present is a good time to be searching for the truth. Should you choose to pursue it, none will be able to keep you from it." moves on to the middle card "The card best representing you or your position at this moment is the Forge - a trial by fire, so to speak, with the implication of strength in numbers and diversity. Despite your...
  311. [10:18] <theMarg0r> ...root-less, foggy past, seek out allies to lend you strength, so you may prevail. But..." the bottom-most card next. "Beware a bad bargain, the Foreign Trader. Take care so you don't trade away or carelessly lose something important before you learn of its true value."
  312. [10:21] <theMarg0r> She flips over the final set of cards, heading towards the inevitable finale. From top to bottom, the cards show a tornado with arms and an evilly happy smile, a puppet knight facing a puppet dragon in a theatre, and finally, in the bottom right, "Chaotic Evil" corner, a man chained up and hung upside down above a vat of boiling wax.
  313. [10:22] <Jaeger> "Solid advice..." Jaeger mumbles as she got to the end of the middle row, peering down on the cards now revealed.
  314. [10:24] <theMarg0r> "In the future, fate will lead you to a place where an ancient force lies imprisoned - the Waxworks. There, you will play out a part in a prophecy far older than this one - the Theater, in an uncertain position in the middle row of the future - this prophecy may ring true and play an important role in you finding out your destiny, or it may just be a sham, a facade to distract you. Finally,...
  315. [10:24] <theMarg0r> ...the Cyclone, misaligned, promising rest and renewal after times of trial and turbulent uncertainty."
  316. [10:27] <Jaeger> "Rest and renewal, huh?" The half-orc set his eye on the Cyclone. "Wouldn't be unwelcome."
  317. [10:29] <theMarg0r> "Just remember, the cards show a possible, even probable future, but it is by no means immutable. If the best marksman in the world, certain of hitting his target, looses an arrow, and a bird unpredictably flies into the path of the shot, the outcome may be different than what the archer's experience, instinct, and skill intended."
  318. [10:31] <Jaeger> "If there is one thing I have learnt it is that life has no certainties, and to expect there to be is simply foolish." Jaeger answers, briefly going quiet before he adds. "And yet we move nowhere if we aren't ready to take that risk."
  319. [10:45] <Jaeger> With that said he rises to his feet and bows his head to the seer. "Thank you for the guidance." he rumbles quietly.
  320. [10:46] <theMarg0r> She nods at you and starts packing up. Apparently she know noone else is waiting.
  321. [10:46] <Jaeger> Without another word he leaves.
  322. [11:13] <theMarg0r> Idly, whoever this is seems to be using the same hair dye Kat is. Or at least has the desired hair color naturally. Which you DOUBT.

  337. 06[21:47] * Jenifer_Teague knocks on the door to Kat's room. She herself is only staying a few down the hallway at the inn.
  338. 06[21:47] * Kat was napping, but wakes at the sound of the knocking. She rubs her eyes. "Who's there?"
  339. [21:51] <Jenifer_Teague> "A ghooossstt~" She smiles.
  340. 06[21:51] * Kat opens the door. "Oh good, someone finally got you. Any chance you don't have any unfinished business so I can go back to sleep?"
  341. 06[21:51] * Deedles is now away - Reason : away
  342. [21:53] <Jenifer_Teague> "I need to dye your hair...woooo~" She's standing there with...a rather large bag of hairdressing supplies.
  343. 01[21:54] <Kat> "What, today? We talked about this like two hours ago."
  344. [21:55] <Jenifer_Teague> "And? Do you want to wait?"
  345. 01[21:56] <Kat> "No, I just didn't expect it this soon." She leaves the door open and goes to grab a chair.
  346. [21:57] <Jenifer_Teague> "I said I'd doooo it, so I shallll~" She's still doing the ghost voice.
  347. 01[21:57] <Kat> "Why are you still doing the ghost voice."
  348. [21:58] <Jenifer_Teague> "Iiii dooon'ttt knoowwww." She grins "Alright, I'll stop."
  349. 06[21:59] * Kat shakes her head and sits down. "I'm feeling weirdly nostalgic today. Everything is reminding me of stuff. Stupid fortune-teller must have gotten into my head."
  350. [22:00] <Jenifer_Teague> "Oh? Want to talk about it?" She slips around behind Kat and starts to fill a bowl with water. "Alright, we'll start by getting rid of your current dye so you don't end up with a weird two-tone dye job."
  351. 06[22:00] * Kat nods and closes her eyes. "I don't really want to talk about it, no."
  352. 06[22:02] * Jenifer_Teague nods and starts to gently wash Kat's hair, removing the black dye to reveal it's true colour. "Fine, if you want. The fortune-teller actually told me I should talk to you about ours. I have no clue what that means though."
  353. 01[22:03] <Kat> "What'd she say to you?"
  354. [22:05] <Jenifer_Teague> "That I had one chance for something I've been looking for and...something about a doppleganger or twin in the future. Cards are ambigious and stupid at times." Her hands are gentle and very skilled as she removes the black dye...
  355. 01[22:06] <Kat> "I agree. So I assume she was talking about you finding some lost treasure or some other pirate stuff like that?"
  356. [22:06] <Jenifer_Teague> "Eh, something like that...though more valuable than just gold." She shrugs.
  357. 01[22:07] <Kat> "Well, she told me that I might be found soon and that I shouldn't lash out at whoever does the finding, whatever that's supposed to mean."
  358. 06[22:07] * Kat is clearly blonde as the dye washes out, a shade eerily close to Jen's own, in fact, as more and more of the dye comes out.
  359. [22:09] <Jenifer_Teague> "Found? On the run from someone?" She makes a 'tsk tsk' sound. "Going to need to wash and treat this before we dye it. It's not in great condition...
  360. 01[22:11] <Kat> "Probably not. I'd been out of contact with most civilization for a while, until a few weeks ago."
  361. [22:12] <Jenifer_Teague> "Right. Because your order of Knights of the Grump don't have a main branch in a city where you can get decent shampoo." Kat's hair is now back to it's original colour and wet, with Jen starting to gently wash it, massaging shampoo into Kat's scalp with skilled hands...
  362. 06[22:15] * Kat relaxes. "It was more being stranded for several years, but it all ends the same doesn't it."
  363. [22:21] <Jenifer_Teague> "A bit, yeah. Next time you get kicked off a boat, maybe try somewhere with a decent hairdresser?" She's still gently washing Kat's hair.
  364. 01[22:21] <Kat> "I'll keep that in mind for next time."
  365. 06[22:24] * Jenifer_Teague nods and starts to rince Kat's hair. "It's almost a shame to dye this. With a little work, your hair could look almost as good as mine."
  366. 06[22:24] * Kat shrugs. "We'd probably get weird looks if we both walked around with the same hairstyle. Besides, I like it this way."
  367. 06[22:26] * Jenifer_Teague shrugs "Heh. We'd look a bit close, wouldn't we?" She's got a big flutty towel out and is drying Kat's hair.
  368. 01[22:29] <Kat> "Yep. So what's with you and that woman from earlier? Jilted lover?"
  369. [22:29] <Jenifer_Teague> "Gods, she WISHES. She's a pirate I've ran into before."
  370. 01[22:34] <Kat> "I guess it didn't go well."
  371. [22:36] <Jenifer_Teague> "Well, she's creepy and weird, for starters." She finishes drying Kat's hair and holds up a mirror. The treatment has added a lot more body and shine to Kat's hair, though it's yet to be dyed. Jen can be seen peering over her shoulder, her face right beside Kat's.
  372. 01[22:37] <Kat> "Well, that's a given, but I'd have figured you'd bond over common ground in that case."
  373. [22:38] <Jenifer_Teague> "Oh come on." She glowers at Kat via the mirror...the matching hair and the Kat-like expression making them look very, very similar.
  374. 06[22:39] * Kat smirks. "So you ran into each other and I'm guessing bullets were exchanged at the politest?"
  375. [22:41] <Jenifer_Teague> "Maybe..." She pauses "...we REALLY look similar with your hair like this."
  376. 01[22:42] <Kat> "Yeah, it's creepy."
  377. [22:43] <Jenifer_Teague> "I dunno, I don't mind. I mean, I look great." She snickers.
  378. 06[22:44] * Kat rolls her eyes.
  379. [22:45] <Jenifer_Teague> ...her smile fades and she's clearly pondering something.
  380. 01[22:45] <Kat> "You look like you're plotting something."
  381. [22:48] <Jenifer_Teague> "Not plotting. Well, ok. Maybe plotting a bit if I ever want to show off at a party by turning up with a twin. But no..." She stares at the mirror a bit.
  382. 06[22:52] * Kat just shrugs and lets her think it out, whatever it is.
  383. [22:55] <Jenifer_Teague> "...how many years ago did you end up on the island?"
  384. 06[22:56] * Kat starts thinking, and counting... "Um....six or seven?"
  385. [22:58] <Jenifer_Teague> "...huh. What's Kat short for?" She's gone a bit pale.
  386. 01[22:58] <Kat> "Katherine, why?"
  387. [23:00] <Jenifer_Teague> "...Annabelle?" She sounds a bit like she can't believe it...
  388. 01[23:00] <Kat> "How do you know my middle name?"
  389. 01[23:00] <Kat> "Wait, you can't be serious."
  390. 06[23:01] * Jenifer_Teague throws her arms around Kat. "OhMyGods."
  391. 06[23:01] * Jenifer_Teague makes a noise that can only be described at a squee.
  392. 01[23:02] <Kat> "And Jen stands for Jenifer. And you're a goddamn privateer."
  393. 06[23:02] * Kat facepalms
  394. 06[23:03] * Jenifer_Teague hugs her tight. "OhmygodsOhmygodsOhmygods."
  395. 01[23:03] <Kat> "I need a drink."
  396. 01[23:04] <Kat> "So, uh, how's the family doing?"
  397. [23:04] <Jenifer_Teague> "Well, missing you for starters." She's still hugging.
  398. 01[23:05] <Kat> "Well, besides that. Our brother still a crybaby?"
  399. 06[23:05] * Kat also mutters something about punching Pharasma in the face.
  400. [23:05] <Jenifer_Teague> "Yep~" She pauses "...man, I got GYPED on that fortune telling."
  401. 01[23:07] <Kat> "Well, this is a spectacularly stupid coincidence. I finally get off that island and run into my older sister in less than a month. And I do still need that drink. So, uh, go down to the bar?"
  402. [23:08] <Jenifer_Teague> "...yeah, I'd like a drink too. Finish your hair later? It's kinda still gold."
  403. 01[23:08] <Kat> "Sure."
  404. 06[23:09] * Jenifer_Teague stands up, allowing Kat to get up.
  405. 06[23:09] * Kat also gets up, trying to squirm out of the grip so they're not attempting some kind of horrible hug-walk.
  406. [23:10] <Jenifer_Teague> Jen is a lot less strong, even if she's agile so she could probebly be thrown off if Kat tries...
  407. 06[23:10] * Kat just settles for breaking the grip, but she'll concede Jen hanging on an arm if she's inclined.
  408. 06[23:12] * Jenifer_Teague does "...oh gods, this is great. I totally got gyped on the reading but this is great!"
  409. 06[23:15] * Kat walks down to the bar. "Goddamn fortune tellers, would it have killed her to just tell me..."
  410. [23:15] <Jenifer_Teague> "I know, right? I asked her about you and it was all super ambigious."
  411. 01[23:16] <Kat> "I didn't ask her about anything, I just wanted to see what she had to say."
  412. [23:17] <Jenifer_Teague> "And this is totally where...hey, did you get the Twin card?" She leads on towards the bar.
  413. 01[23:17] <Kat> "Yeah. And some wax thing."
  414. [23:19] <Jenifer_Teague> "Yeah, what was with that thing? Down in the bottom right?"
  415. 01[23:19] <Kat> "Something about peril and conflict. She probably puts that one there on everyone."
  416. [23:20] <Jenifer_Teague> "Or at least adventurers. Because I mean, come on...it's kinda a given."
  417. 01[23:21] <Kat> "Exactly. You could probably stretch that for everything. I mean, you could consider fighting with a spouse 'peril and conflict'."
  418. 06[23:21] * Kat gets a drink.
  419. [23:21] <Jenifer_Teague> "Yeah." Jen buys one of her own, still honding Kat's hand...

  429. [10:14] <Jenifer_Teague> (2:21:41 PM) Kat: "Exactly. You could probably stretch that for everything. I mean, you could consider fighting with a spouse 'peril and conflict'."
  430. [10:14] <Jenifer_Teague> (2:21:42 PM) ***Kat gets a drink.
  431. [10:14] <Jenifer_Teague> (2:22:28 PM) Jenifer_Teague: "Yeah." Jen buys one of her own, still honding Kat's hand...
  432. 06[10:14] * Kat drinks from her mug heavily
  433. [10:15] <Earthflame> It takes a while to notice Ana. She's sitting quietly at a nearby table, staring intently at a pad of paper and chewing on a pencil.
  434. 06[10:16] * Jenifer_Teague waves her free hand at Ana.
  435. [10:18] <Earthflame> She seems rather focused on what she's doing, not even acknowledging Jen or Kat's presence
  436. 06[10:21] * Jenifer_Teague rolls her eyes...and tosses the olive from her drink at Ana. She's got a good arm.
  437. [10:21] <Deedles> Jaeger was sat by the bar being an anti-social fuck, sipping at a small glas filled with an amber liquid.
  438. [10:22] <Earthflame> Ana blinks as it bounces off her head, turning around to give Jen and Kat a little smile... Before blinking and glancing between the two of them. "...Jen? Why are there two of you? I haven't had that much to drink..."
  439. 01[10:23] <Kat> "I KNEW we should have finished dying the hair."
  440. [10:23] <Jenifer_Teague> "You agreed to finish your hair later AND you suggested getting a drink. You can't blame me for this one." She grins "It's Kat~"
  441. 01[10:24] <Kat> "I know what I said, I'm also saying I know that was dumb and this proves it." She grumbles.
  442. 06[10:25] * Samanhe plops down heavily at the table, having come up behind the pair. "Hey Jen, hey second Jen."
  443. [10:25] <Earthflame> "...Wow. Your hair is, uh... Really similar." She gets up and moves over, carrying a half empty glass of wine and putting the notepad down before her, tucking the pencil behind one ear.
  444. 06[10:26] * Kat gets another drink
  445. 06[10:26] * Samanhe leans over to mumble at her best friend. "That's Kat, innit?"
  446. [10:26] <Samanhe> "Ain't nobody else here's got that special brand of grumpy."
  447. 06[10:27] * Jenifer_Teague grumps at Samanhe. "Now which one is which?"
  448. [10:29] <Samanhe> She jerks a thumb toward Kat. "That's her, an' you're you. Ya can try ta look like her but ya still have a bit of a differ'nt voice."
  449. 06[10:30] * Samanhe gestures to her oversized ears.
  450. 06[10:30] * Jenifer_Teague grumps harder. "Well, she IS my Sister."
  451. [10:30] <Samanhe> "Ah." She nods--then, after a beat, turns slowly to staaaaaaare at Jen. "Whut."
  452. 01[10:31] <Kat> "It's a long and complicated story."
  453. [10:32] <Jenifer_Teague> "Well, when a Mum and a Dad...or a Dad and a Dad or a Mum and a Mum assuming either of the latter pairs have access to magic...anyway...when they love each other very much..."
  454. [10:32] <Deedles> Even Jaeger caught that one, the half-orc suddenly looking in their direction and blinking, only to quietly nod as if to say 'Suddenly everything makes sense'.
  455. 06[10:32] * Samanhe cuffs Jen atop the head, then watches Kat return. "Well, looks like we got some time, so why not?"
  456. [10:33] <Earthflame> ...Ana looks up from her wine, staring between them. "...Wait. You're sisters? Didn't you only meet the other day?"
  457. 01[10:33] <Kat> "I don't even know the whole story myself. Just tidbits."
  458. [10:33] <Jenifer_Teague> "Yes...and?" She looks at Ana.
  459. [10:33] <Earthflame> "I... How..."
  460. [10:34] <Jenifer_Teague> "I'd tell you but Sam hit me when I started last time~"
  461. 06[10:35] * Samanhe glowers. "'Cause ya started with that lame joke ya git. I know how it works, ya don't grow up onna farm without learnin' that stuff early."
  462. 01[10:35] <Kat> "Fine, I'll start. About seven years ago while I was sleeping some assholes wrapped me up in a bedsheet and threw me on a ship. Then when the ship sank, I washed up on a deserted cay and met my master, where I got my training. And now I'm here."
  463. [10:37] <Samanhe> "An' before that seven years back ya lived all happy'n secure-like with Jen and yer parents, yeah?"
  464. 01[10:37] <Kat> "More or less."
  465. [10:37] <Jenifer_Teague> "She...was...adorable~" Jen grins.
  466. [10:39] <Earthflame> Ana's mouth drops open. And she lets out a little squee. "...Long lost sisters. That's... That's so cool!"
  467. [10:41] <Jenifer_Teague> "I know, right?" She puts an arm around Kat and hugs her tight. "Not letting her vanish again~"
  468. 01[10:41] <Kat> "It's going to be considerably tougher for anyone to drag me off in a bedsheet."
  469. [10:42] <Deedles> The half-orc looked thoughtful as he listened to the conversation that ensued, scratching his chin as his thoughts returned to his own reading.
  470. [10:42] <Samanhe> "Alright, well...ya ain't twins, so which one's tha older?"
  471. [10:42] <Jenifer_Teague> "I'd like to see them try. Seriously, it would be adorable~"
  472. 06[10:43] * Jenifer_Teague looks to Samanhe. "Take a guess. One of us is much more mature."
  473. 01[10:43] <Kat> "Now you're just going to confuse her."
  474. 01[10:43] <Kat> "She's older."
  475. [10:43] <Samanhe> She shakes her head. "Oh no, ya ain't gettin' me in the middle o' that fight."
  476. 06[10:44] * Samanhe stares at Kat. "Bullshit."
  477. 01[10:44] <Kat> "By...two years, was it?"
  478. [10:45] <Earthflame> ...Ana giggles
  479. 06[10:45] * Jenifer_Teague nods "Two years...and what do you mean I'm going to confuse her?"
  480. 01[10:46] <Kat> "She'd probably start thinking you were five if you put age and maturity together."
  481. 06[10:47] * Jenifer_Teague sticks out her tongue "Says the girl who dyes her hair black because she's too dark, serious and myserious to keep her normal hair."
  482. [10:47] <Samanhe> "Jen, you're my best friend, but yer little sis's got more o' that air o' serious than you do." She nods for a second. "Prob'ly 'cause she got stole an' shipwrecked."
  483. 01[10:47] <Kat> "I already told you, it looks weird with my armor."
  484. [10:48] <Earthflame> Ana is just grinning and giggling. "...This is unreal..."
  485. [10:49] <Jenifer_Teague> "It's just contrast and I don't believe that part of it isn't because you want to do that 'Dark knight' sort of look."
  486. 01[10:50] <Kat> "I like my hair to match my armor, it's not like you don't do things for style yourself."
  487. [10:50] <Deedles> "Sounds like good things are already happening." Jaeger concluded as he joined the group fully. "Lets hope it stays that way." he added, upon taking a seat.
  488. [10:50] <Earthflame> "Yeah..." Ana says, looking down at her notepad again. "...I'm not sure about the future, though..."
  489. [10:51] <Samanhe> "Oh?" She leans over to look at Ana's notes. "That fortune crank got ya worried?"
  490. [10:52] <Earthflame> "Yeah..." She taps the pencil against the entry for the waxworks. "They nailed a lot of stuff so far... And I'm worried about where it's going."
  491. 06[10:52] * Jenifer_Teague pokes Kat in the belly. "Sure, keep saying that's the reason Sis." She rummages through a pocket in her long coat and pulls out a bag of hard sweets. "Hey, you want these? You love them~"
  492. [10:53] <Samanhe> She snorts loudly. "They only 'nail' a lotta stuff 'cause ya let yerself think they are. It's all so vague it could apply ta anyone, they make sure o' that. She picked out three cards an' told me they meant I grew up onna farm. Now who coulda known that?"
  493. [10:53] <Samanhe> The look she gives Ana is pure sarcasm.
  494. [10:54] <Deedles> "I got the waxworks as well." Jaeger said as he looked at the notepad "And the seer knew something specific about my past." he rumble, sipping at his drink.
  495. 06[10:54] * Kat takes the bag. "Just remember that a lot has changed since we last saw each other."
  496. [10:56] <Earthflame> Ana looks up at Jaeger in surprise. "You too? Which position? Mine was the bottom corner, the last card..."
  497. [10:56] <Jenifer_Teague> "Ah hah...and does that mean you now hate hard, sweet candy?"
  498. [10:56] <Deedles> The half-orc nodded "Same position for me."
  499. 01[10:56] <Kat> "No."
  500. 06[10:56] * Kat eats one of the candies.
  501. [10:57] <Samanhe> "I got th'same card, same spot. Prob'ly means the deck was rigged. Somethin' ta spook anyone who comes in."
  502. [10:57] <Jenifer_Teague> They are VERY high quality...and sweet enough to rot teeth.
  503. [10:58] <Earthflame> "Wait, you too? I saw her shuffling..." Ana looks across to Jen and Kat. "Hey, your readings... Did you get the Waxworks?"
  504. 01[10:58] <Kat> "Yep. I think she puts that one there for everyone. It's the most generic reading. 'CONFLICT AND PERIL'."
  505. [10:58] <Deedles> "Considering that it seems we'll be travelling together, it makes sense that we will meet the same strife, but not deal with it in the same way."
  506. [10:58] <Samanhe> "People can shuffle up a deck o' cards an' still keep it stacked. Ask this one." She points at Jen again.
  507. [10:59] <Jenifer_Teague> "Oh come on. You can't prove that. You never caught me." She grins "And yeah, I got it too."
  508. [10:59] <Earthflame> Ana gives a little nod, but she doesn't look convinced. "...Maybe that pirate lady's shaman can help me figure out more..."
  509. [11:00] <Samanhe> "I never caught ya 'cause I never played after the first game. I didn't need ya winnin' ev'ry game o' strip five-draw ya egged me inta playin'."
  510. [11:01] <Samanhe> She turns back to Kat. "She still has my straw hat in her cabin, assumin' it's not all wrecked up like Hissy Boots back there kept sayin'."
  511. 01[11:02] <Kat> "I guess you proved me wrong, you haven't changed at all."
  512. [11:02] <Jenifer_Teague> "What's that mean Kat?" She looks over at Samanhe "I OFFERED to let you win it back."
  513. 01[11:03] <Kat> "You were always pulling stunts like that, or punching clowns, or getting in trouble in other ways."
  514. [11:03] <Deedles> Meanwhile Jaeger leaned over to look closer at the notepad, remaining quiet for now.
  515. [11:04] <Jenifer_Teague> "Hey, clowns are scary AND it jumped out of the bushes."
  516. 06[11:04] * Samanhe nods sagely with Jen. "That's fair."
  517. [11:05] <Earthflame> Ana smiles softly at the siblings squabble, relaxing a bit, although she still looks on edge...
  518. 01[11:06] <Kat> "I wasn't actually talking about that one. I was talking about the one at the circus who you thought made Noah cry, but it turns out he was crying because he was scared of lions.
  519. [11:07] <Deedles> "Hmm, prophecy." Jaeger muttered "She mentioned that when I was there as well." he told Ana, giving her a gentle pat on the shoulder. "And if everyone's readings are so similar then I guess that means that we'll be going into this as a group."
  520. [11:08] <Earthflame> That seems to make her a little more confident, and she gives Jaeger a warm smile. "At least we'll be in good company."
  521. [11:10] <Jenifer_Teague> "...yeah well he was still creepy. It's part of being a clown."
  522. [11:10] <Deedles> "The best I've met in a long time, I'd wager." he agreed, returning the smile faintly. "And I was told to appreciate what I've got." he added, looking thoughtful.
  523. [11:11] <Earthflame> She glances at the pad again. "...I was told to hold onto my friends... And the reason I'm doing all this."
  524. [11:14] <Deedles> "There is a strength in numbers." Jaeger mused, looking over the short notes again.
  525. 01[11:14] <Kat> "I still need to go punch that fortune-teller."
  526. 06[11:15] * Kat eats another candy.
  527. 06[11:15] * Jenifer_Teague ruffles Kat's hair. "For not just being blunt about it?"
  528. 01[11:15] <Kat> "Well, in general, but for that too yes."
  529. [11:16] <Earthflame> "...I don't have much. She was talking about this ancient prophecy that I got wrapped in, somehow... The only connection I could work out was my dad, being an elf and all. No idea how old he was, or what his family do..." She lets out a little sigh. "But... It makes sense. The shadow man said he'd never seen someone like me before..."
  530. [11:17] <Jenifer_Teague> "What was WITH the silver nail polish? That's just a weird choice of colour."
  531. 01[11:18] <Kat> "I guess the idea was to match her hair, but she was wearing silver robes too. Mono-color is just tacky, you have to mix it up a little bit."
  532. 06[11:18] * Samanhe levels a look at Kat.
  533. 01[11:18] <Kat> "AND BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING my padded cloth under my armor is a different color."
  534. 06[11:19] * Jenifer_Teague rolls her eyes. "Sure thing Sis~"
  535. 01[11:19] <Kat> "Besides, I don't wear nail polish or lipstick. THAT would be tacky."
  536. [11:19] <Samanhe> "Anyway, the silver's prob'ly somethin' else ta mark her as all magicky an' stuff. Cash in on the mystique around fortune-tellin'."
  537. [11:19] <Jenifer_Teague> "...actually, black lipstick could look pretty cool. You'd need to lose the tan though."
  538. [11:20] <Deedles> ""I was told I am tangled in the briar thorns of fate, which is trying to pull me either towards my doom or salvation. She also said that the time to act is now, and to seek companions who I can face the future strife together with."" Jaeger furrowed his brow slightly "She also knew that I was an orphan."
  539. 01[11:20] <Kat> "I thought you wanted me to be more naturally colored" She prods.
  540. [11:21] <Jenifer_Teague> "I think that black dye you use is just terrible. It's so...dull..."
  541. [11:21] <Earthflame> Ana looks at Jaeger, and the others. "...I think she had a real gift... But I guess we'll see how things go." She pauses, looking at the sisters discussing fashion rather than the future... And lets out a strange little sigh, smiling and sipping more wine.
  542. 01[11:21] <Kat> "I know it is, but it works and it's cheap."
  543. [11:22] <Samanhe> "Trust me, Kat, now ya ain't gonna hafta worry 'bout that part. If'n Jen lets ya keep the black dye it's only gonna be the absolute fanciest dye anyone's ever made."
  544. [11:25] <Jenifer_Teague> "..." Jen pouts at Sam. "...you gave away my gift."
  545. [11:25] <Samanhe> "I didn't *know* ya had any," she protests, frowning.
  546. [11:25] <Deedles> Jaeger did much the same, going quiet for now.
  547. [11:27] <Samanhe> "Anyway. Sorry fer ignorin' ya, Ana, Yayger. But someone's gotta ride herd on these two, or it turns inta some flavor of endless catfight. I s'pose, bein' related an' all, that ain't that big a surprise."
  548. 06[11:27] * Jenifer_Teague glowers at Samanhe
  549. [11:28] <Samanhe> "What? I got siblings too, y'know."
  550. [11:28] <Deedles> The half-orc uttered something which probably was a chuckle, but sounded more like a low rumble. "It's a'right."
  551. [11:29] <Earthflame> Ana smiles at Sammy. "Yeah, it's fine... I'm probably just grasping at straws, anyway... I just want to feel like I've learned Something about what happened to me..."
  552. [11:31] <Samanhe> She nods. "An' I should prob'ly stop badmouthin' the fortune-teller lady in front o' ya, too. I don't think it's real, but a lotta people put a lotta stock in it so maybe there really is somethin' to it." She shrugs.
  553. 06[11:32] * Jenifer_Teague keeps up the glowering at Samanhe, lip wobbling.
  554. [11:33] <Deedles> "It's as real as you make it." Jaeger said as he got started on rolling a cigarette. "When I told ya back at the temple that you make the meaning I didn't mean if you believe or not, but that things like that can help you consider things you hadn't considered before, notice things that you didn't know were there." he elaborated.
  555. [11:35] <Earthflame> Ana nods at that. "Even if was just clever guesswork... It's given me a structure... And there is probably some truth in this. It's got to be bigger than me." She looks down, scribbling a few more things beneath the notes. "He said I was meant to be a sacrifice... But to what?"
  556. [11:36] <Samanhe> "Prob'ly himself," she says, trying to ignore Jen...and failing miserably. "Alright, put that thing away before it hits the table," she says, flipping Jen's bottom lip with one of her fingers.
  557. 06[11:36] * Jenifer_Teague keeps lip wobbling "Meany..."
  558. [11:37] <Samanhe> "Meany? What for? Sayin' you an' Kat get inta it worse'n you an' me?"
  559. [11:37] <Deedles> "Maybe that Shaman will know... Or maybe we'll find out when we go through the mirror." The half-orc mused, before lighting the freshly rolled smoke.
  560. [11:38] <Samanhe> "Yeah, I ain't exactly lookin' forward ta that part," she calls back to Jaeger.
  561. [11:38] <Jenifer_Teague> "And spoiling my suprise..." Her voice wobbles like she's about to cry...
  562. 01[11:38] <Kat> "If it makes you feel any better I figured you had some kind of stunt planned."
  563. [11:39] <Earthflame> "...Oh." Ana looks across the group. "...The pirate... Boots, something? She said you wouldn't want me seeing her shaman alone, Jen?"
  564. [11:39] <Samanhe> "Well I'm sorry about that, really, but it was as much a guess as it was a statement," she says defensively. "If I'd'a known it was s'posed t'be a surprise, I wouldn'a said nothin', okay?"
  565. [11:39] <Deedles> "Ah, I totally understand if you're scared, Sammy." Jaeger said... was he teasing her?
  566. [11:40] <Samanhe> "Hissy Boots, yeah. Least, that's what Jen called her a few times."
  567. [11:41] <Samanhe> "And I ain't scared," she says crossly, directing that at the half-orc. "I survived a month at sea with Jen. What worse could there be?"
  568. 01[11:41] <Kat> "I grew up with her for twelve years?" Kat offers.
  569. [11:41] <Jenifer_Teague> "...why am I used like some sort of benchmark of awful..."
  570. [11:41] <Deedles> Jaeger glanced at Jen "I see your point." he puffed, his pointed teeth visible as he grinned.
  571. 01[11:42] <Kat> "Cause you get all upset when we mess with you."
  572. 06[11:43] * Jenifer_Teague takes out another candy from the bag and shoves it in Kat's mouth. "...shut up Sis..."
  573. [11:45] <Samanhe> "You weren't the bad part," she says, giving Jen a comforting (and perhaps condescending) pat on the hand. "But ya gotta admit, with the way ya tried ta scour every slavery operation, things got...dicey."
  574. [11:46] <Samanhe> "And that was just in a month's time."
  575. 06[11:52] * Jenifer_Teague crosses her arms. "I will have my vengence Sam..."
  576. [11:53] <Samanhe> "I said I was sorry..." She sighs at Jen's intransigent look. "Alright, fine. But leave my knickers out of yer plans, please?"
  577. [11:54] <Jenifer_Teague> "...what? Why would you think that would even be part of my plan?"
  578. [11:56] <Samanhe> "Well, there was the time my undies went up the mainmast on yer ship. I always thought it was you what did it, since it was after another one o' those 'you stole my flask' games. You sure it wasn't?"
  579. 06[11:58] * Samanhe seems utterly unashamed of telling these stories, straight-faced and not a hint of a blush behind her freckles.
  580. [12:00] <Jenifer_Teague> "...that wasn't me. I'm serious."
  581. 01[12:01] <Kat> "Are you sure?"
  582. [12:09] <Jenifer_Teague> "I'm telling the truth. On my honor." Sam knows that Jen doesn't lie if she promices on her honor.
  583. [12:11] <Samanhe> "I believe her," she says simply. "That kinda prank's a bit out of her normal bag o' tricks anyway."
  584. 01[12:11] <Kat> "Hm. Wonder who it was then. Maybe you have a secret admirer with poor social skills."
  585. [12:12] <Jenifer_Teague> "Well, we hadn't met you yet Sis so we can rule that out, even if you meet that description."
  586. 01[12:13] <Kat> "And she believes you despite your underwear fixation, so I guess we have to rule you out too."
  587. [12:14] <Samanhe> "Hey now. She likes to wear her own, not steal other people's."
  588. [12:15] <Jenifer_Teague> "If I DIDN'T like to wear my underwear it would say something about me. Liking to wear my underwear is normal." She pouts.
  589. [12:15] <Deedles> "If you ever need to scare any creeps just call." Jaeger said with a faint grin
  590. [12:18] <Jenifer_Teague> "If I need to scare creeps I'll let Sam pick her own outfit."
  591. [12:18] <Earthflame> Ana giggles... And then pauses, looking at her own shadow. "...I don't think I'd need any help scaring people..."
  592. [12:19] <Deedles> "I don't mind knocking some sense into people either." The half-orc added as he frowned.
  593. [12:20] <Samanhe> She nods--then frowns at Jen. "Hey. I do okay. Maybe not as good as you with the clothes...but it ain't like I'm colorblind."
  594. 01[12:20] <Kat> "I think she might be. You wouldn't believe the 'outfits' she would put together as a kid."
  595. [12:21] <Earthflame> ...Ana looks down at her own all black getup, and drinks more wine.
  596. [12:22] <Jenifer_Teague> "What was wrong with my outfits as a kid? You WORE them."
  597. [12:22] <Samanhe> "If'n that's true--an' I have a hard time believin' Jen ever bein' bad at clothes--she got better, fast. You remember those dresses she stuffed us in." In spite of her words, she smiles a bit.
  598. 01[12:28] <Kat> "Oh you'd be surprised. It probably wouldn't have been so bad if she weren't so stubborn." She teases.
  599. [12:29] <Jenifer_Teague> "Ah hah. Says the girl who ate so much candy on her tenth birthday we needed to call a cleric."
  600. 01[12:31] <Kat> "You were the one who dared me to!"
  601. [12:31] <Jenifer_Teague> "The entire bowl of punch wasn't part of the dare!"
  602. 01[12:32] <Kat> "That was because I was thirsty."
  603. [12:32] <Jenifer_Teague> "That excuses it...how?"
  604. [12:32] <Deedles> Jaeger rose to his feet "I'll see you later." he said, nodding his head in good bye, before exiting the Inn.
  605. [12:34] <Samanhe> "See ya, Yayger," she says, touching a finger to her forehead.
  606. 06[12:38] * Jenifer_Teague waves
  607. 06[12:39] * Kat waves

  613. Session Start: Mon Mar 16 18:49:47 2015
  614. Session Ident: #DDPFIC
  615. 03[18:49] * Now talking in #DDPFIC
  616. [18:54] <Jenifer_Teague> ...A few hours later, after quite a bit of booze...
  617. 06[18:55] * Jenifer_Teague is leading towards Kat's room, a goofy smile on her face.
  618. 06[18:55] * Kat is also going, smiling, but in that kind of smug asshole way.
  619. 06[18:56] * Jenifer_Teague has her arm around Kat. "I still say your hair looks good blonde."
  620. 06[18:57] * Kat shrugs. "It does, but I got a thing going on, you know?"
  621. [18:57] <Jenifer_Teague> "Oh yeah, you have to look grumpy and dark and gothic. If you want to do that, we should totally get you some makeup for paler skin."
  622. 01[19:01] <Kat> "If that was what I was going for I'd have black lipstick and nail polish. And I'd be wearing eyeshadow."
  623. [19:02] <Jenifer_Teague> "...and we'd look like opposites. That could be pretty cool."
  624. 01[19:03] <Kat> "It's kind of cliche though. I mean, sisters that are opposites down to how they dress? That's just ridiculous."
  625. [19:04] <Jenifer_Teague> "Things are cliches for a reason, Sis." She opens up the door and heads inside.
  626. 06[19:12] * Kat shrugs, and opens the door to her room, where the hair stuff still is.
  627. 06[19:12] * Jenifer_Teague gestures a bit drunkenly at the seat. "Sit down and I'll do your hair."
  628. 01[19:13] <Kat> "Now? You drank a lot."
  629. [19:13] <Jenifer_Teague> "So did you."
  630. 01[19:13] <Kat> "I'm also not trying to do things, but suit yourself."
  631. [19:14] <Jenifer_Teague> "It will be ggrreeaattt~" She slurs a bit.
  632. 01[19:15] <Kat> "I already said it was fine, sheesh, just do it already."
  633. 06[19:16] * Jenifer_Teague sits down and gestures for Kat to do so as well.
  634. 06[19:16] * Kat sits.
  635. 06[19:17] * Jenifer_Teague gets to work, moving suprisngly gracefully for someone as clearly drunk as she is...
  636. 06[19:19] * Kat sits still, letting her work quietly
  637. [19:22] <Jenifer_Teague> The dye Jen is using is...a lot shinier than the previous one. Between that and the careful washing, Kat's hair is going to be both thicker and more stylish when Jen is done...
  638. 06[19:27] * Jenifer_Teague finishes it up and holds out a mirror. She missed a bit. A long streak of gold in the middle of the shiny black...
  639. 01[19:28] <Kat> "You missed a spot. A pretty big one. It does look good though anyway."
  640. [19:32] <Jenifer_Teague> "I didn't miss it. I planned it!"
  641. 06[19:37] * Jenifer_Teague grins proudly.
  642. 01[19:37] <Kat> "Guess that's why it looks good. Alright, well, I'll take a look at it sober too and figure out what I think, but yeah."
  643. [19:38] <Jenifer_Teague> "Cool!" She hugs Kat tight.
  644. 06[19:38] * Kat returns the hug lightly.
  645. [19:39] <Jenifer_Teague> "...I'm so glad I found you again. I've been looking for years...our entire family has..."
  646. 06[19:41] * Kat frowns. "I figured. I didn't think about much but survival. Honestly I didn't really think about the family at all, it just made it harder."
  647. [19:42] <Jenifer_Teague> "...sorry we didn't find you earlier." She sniffles a bit.
  648. 01[19:43] <Kat> "You don't have to apologize. The ones that did it are on the bottom of the ocean."
  649. 06[19:48] * Jenifer_Teague sniffles more "...still...I'm so glad you are back...I won't let anyone take you again."
  650. 01[19:49] <Kat> "Even if they got past you, they wouldn't get past me. I've learned a lot. I'm stronger than I was. Tougher than I was."
  651. [19:50] <Jenifer_Teague> "Still..." She tightens the hug. "I don't want to lose you again...I mean...I've spent so long going over that night...wondering if I could have stopped it..."
  652. 01[19:52] <Kat> "Jen. You were fourteen years old." She pulls out for a sec and looks her in the eye, though her arms are still on Jen's shoulders. "There is nothing that can change the past. We both got stronger as a result. Don't regret."
  653. [19:53] <Jenifer_Teague> "...I could have...something." She sighs "When did you get mature?"
  654. 01[19:53] <Kat> "A long time ago. Now go to bed before you dehydrate yourself more than you already have."
  655. 01[19:54] <Kat> "And get some water before you do."
  656. 06[19:55] * Jenifer_Teague pouts "I'm the older Sister. You can't order me about." She gives her another squeeze and stands up.
  657. 06[19:55] * Kat smirks. "Watch me." She squeezes back.
  658. [19:57] <Jenifer_Teague> "Fine...but I know about drinking water before I sleep. I've spent a LOT more time drunk than you have Kitty." She smirks back.
  659. 01[19:57] <Kat> "Probably, but you were always the irresponsible one."
  660. [19:59] <Jenifer_Teague> "Oh come on. Which one of us begged for a unicorn pony and then didn't look after it?"
  661. 01[20:00] <Kat> "You said you'd share the responsibility with me if I asked for it!"
  662. [20:01] <Jenifer_Teague> "And I did the part I promiced to do. I brushed her mane and took her for exercise." She sticks out her tongue.
  663. 01[20:01] <Kat> "You mean you rode her around and said that was your half, and I had to do all the feeding."
  664. [20:02] <Jenifer_Teague> "Hey, you agreed to the deal when I made it. Wasn't my fault you got scammed." She giggles.
  665. 01[20:04] <Kat> "And I thought you wanted to be the responsible one." She sticks out her tongue.
  666. [20:05] <Jenifer_Teague> "A responcible person keeps thier deals, even when they don't like them."
  667. 01[20:06] <Kat> "A responsible person ALSO doesn't abuse their little sister's trust in their responsibility."
  668. [20:07] <Jenifer_Teague> "It was a valuable life lesson...and I ended up helping cleaning the stables...which was another valuable lesson."
  669. 01[20:08] <Kat> "Because mom and dad made us BOTH clean the stables."
  670. [20:08] <Jenifer_Teague> "And what did we learn from it? Beyond 'Not everything a unicorn does is cute'?"
  671. 01[20:09] <Kat> "I think that was all I learned from it. You?"
  672. [20:10] <Jenifer_Teague> "...good point." She nods "Oh, right. I learned that government oversight always screws over small buisness deals." She sticks out her tongue again.
  673. 06[20:10] * Kat laughs. "Let me guess, in this lesson of yours the unicorn has the word 'taxes' branded on her flank?"
  674. [20:15] <Jenifer_Teague> "Maybe. And Mum and Dad represent the government that owns the country and/or house."
  675. 01[20:15] <Kat> "Alright, alright. Go to bed."
  676. [20:17] <Jenifer_Teague> "Alright Sis~" She grins. "You too." She reaches into her bag...and pulls out a makeup case "Oh, here. Gift. It's even got black lipstick~." She puts it on the bed...and runs.
  677. 06[20:17] * Kat throws the chair after her
  678. 06[20:20] * Jenifer_Teague turns, sticking out her tongue at Kat...and takes the Chair to the chest. "Oww...I bith my tong."
  679. 06[20:21] * Kat doubles over laughing. "I didn't think that would actually hit! Oh, damn, sorry about that."
  680. [20:21] <Jenifer_Teague> "I vill get you fer that Kath." She pouts at her, shaking her fist.
  681. 01[20:22] <Kat> "Yeah, yeah, see you in the morning." She slams the door and flops down on her bed.
  682. 06[20:22] * Jenifer_Teague heads back to her own room. She's got a pitcher of water in it.

  694. [12:21] <theMarg0r> The following day, Ana and whoever decides to accompany her, walk through the docks. There are no dead bodies anymore, at least, but the whole shoreline is seriously wrecked. There's some talk of allegedly some flying shark skeletons and rotting fish golems spontaneously forming on and around fishing boats. And of course the kraken. No ship has been left untouched, aside from the few that...
  695. [12:21] <theMarg0r> ...came in after the undead rampage. Which now includes the Shadow of Doubt. Not quite as large as Besmara's Bounty, with dark sails, and dark hull for nighttime strikes, it now stands out in the morning sun. It takes you a little while to find the rowboat with Risky's crew at it, as she didn't tell you anything other than "look for a boat with my boys on it", but sure enough, there's a...
  696. [12:21] <theMarg0r> ...couple of those short lanky figures standing around, smoking and drinking. One of them bites the head off a fish with sharp needly teeth.
  697. [12:22] <Earthflame> Ana lets out a nervous little gulp, glancing back at those who accompanied her, trying for a smile.
  698. [12:22] <theMarg0r> Despite the frantic cleanup and hasty repairs, something SMELLS. And it's not just the fish. Something smells all around and you're guessing it'll smell for a good while longer.
  699. [12:24] <Samanhe> Given the area, Samanhe naturally has come armed. Her nose wrinkles at the odor, but she keeps pace with Ana easily.
  700. 06[12:28] * Jenifer_Teague grumps, looking over the area.
  701. [12:29] <Earthflame> Ana gives both of them a quick smile, before approaching the group by the boat. "Um... Hello?"
  702. [12:33] <Samanhe> "Easy, Jen," she murmurs. "Gettin' in a fight now's not the best plan."
  703. [12:33] <Jenifer_Teague> "...it would be a fun one..."
  704. [12:36] <theMarg0r> The one with the fish spits out whatever he may have been chewing on at the moment and looks up at you. They all look up at you, with their sickly yellow sclera and almost glowing vibrantly colored irises that contrast starkly with the rest of their bodies. Eye colors range from blood red to green to blue, even purple. Like this guy. He opens his mouth again to speak. You've all heard the...
  705. [12:36] <theMarg0r> ...language before, although as a distant echo, but most of you aren't any closer to understanding it than the first time.
  706. [12:37] <theMarg0r> Another guy, slightly taller, with red eyes, turns the fish guy towards himself.
  707. [12:38] <Earthflame> Ana looks startled. "...Princess? I... Did you know the shadow, the man who was lost? He called me that too..."
  708. 06[12:40] * Samanhe trades a look with Jen at that.
  709. [12:40] <theMarg0r> He says something to the fish guy, with Ana being ignored for the moment, then the fish guy barks something at him.
  710. [12:40] <Earthflame> Ana looks between them, frowning. "I'm here to see the shaman..."
  711. [12:41] <theMarg0r> The other one rolls his eyes, pulls out a gun, kneecaps fish guy, and pushes him off the pier.
  712. [12:42] <Earthflame> ...Ana clasps her hands to her mouth in shock. "What did you just-!"
  713. [12:43] <theMarg0r> "Sorry about that, folks. Maybe NOW we can talk like people." says the red-eyed one with the smoking gun.
  714. [12:43] <theMarg0r> Fish guy grabs onto the side of the boat and starts squealing.
  715. [12:43] <theMarg0r> "Shut up, asshole! You don't need your leg to row."
  716. 06[12:43] * Jenifer_Teague raises eyebrow. "...gods I hate dealing with this lot."
  717. [12:44] <Earthflame> Ana is still staring in shock at the smoking gun and the man in the water.
  718. [12:46] <theMarg0r> "Stupid... stupid... hate..." fish guy stutters (and sputters) as he pulls himself into the rowboat.
  719. [12:47] <theMarg0r> "Is that all of you? The captain said there might be more guests coming. I guess they'll be coming later, yeah?" he blows the smoke away from the smoking barrel.
  720. [12:48] <Earthflame> Ana nods dumbly. "Uh... Yes...!
  721. [12:48] <Earthflame> *"
  722. [12:48] <Samanhe> "Yeah, it's all of us," she drawls. "Jes' her fer Ana."
  723. [12:49] <theMarg0r> "Just call me Gunny, okay? I'm in charge of the cannons, gunpowder, all that good stuff. As of now, I'm also in charge of this here boat. And lemme tell you, nice of you to drop by so early. We had orders to stand around here waiting for you, until sundown. Then come back tomorrow, until you came."
  724. [12:50] <Earthflame> "Oh, I'm sorry if I made you wait..." Ana mumbles, still looking at the blood in the water.
  725. [12:53] <theMarg0r> "Don't worry about it." he turns around and gets into the boat, then starts reloading his gun. Clearly HE's not rowing. He leans in to fish guy to whisper something to him.
  726. [12:53] <Earthflame> "Right..." Ana gives another nervous glance to Sam and Jen, before stepping into the boat. "What language were you speaking then?"
  727. 06[12:55] * Jenifer_Teague shrugs, following
  728. [12:57] <theMarg0r> "You people would probably call it "Shadowspeak". Creative, huh? It's our native language. Captain's too. Though the slavedrivers aren't exactly happy to hear us talk in it, they can't exactly root it out either."
  729. [12:58] <Earthflame> "...I think I heard it before, somewhere..." She shakes her head, and then pauses... Trying to form a few words in it, to speak it herself.
  730. [13:02] <theMarg0r> Ana's shadow starts moving its arms rather obviously when she does that.
  731. [13:03] <theMarg0r> "You sound like someone injected pufferfish venom in your lips... or like a deaf person." Gunny grins. Yeah, they all have pointy teeth like that.
  732. [13:03] <theMarg0r> "What, did you learn it from books or something, never actually spoke to anyone before?"
  733. [13:04] <Earthflame> Ana chuckles at that. "Well, I'm trying to speak a language I never even learned... The fact you can understand it at all..." She looks down at her shadow again, and shivers. "...Your Captain said to ask your Shaman, but you're all people of the Shadow, right? And... You've been there? That dark place?" She takes a seat in the boat, looking intently at Gunny.
  734. 06[13:07] * Samanhe sits behind Ana, trying to keep watch elsewhere. Just in case.
  735. [13:09] <theMarg0r> Gunny spins his spindly long-fingered hands at the ends of his spindly long arms. "You're gonna have to be more specific than that, sunshine. The Shadow Plane? I wish. Family ran away a few generations back. Turns out, there's slavers on both sides." he shields his eyes with one hand and squints as he SLIGHTLY tilts his head up. "Had we known, we probably wouldn't have left. How do you stand...
  736. [13:09] <theMarg0r> ...this fucking SUN that you can't even look straight into? Hell, sometimes I can't even look straight AHEAD without the sun getting in my eyes." he starts ranting about the detrimental effects.
  737. [13:09] <theMarg0r> "I mean, not that I've ever SEEN the Shadow Plane sun, being born here, and all, but from what I know, it's more than the moon you have here."
  738. [13:10] <theMarg0r> "Fucking natural light sources..."
  739. [13:11] <Earthflame> She nods slowly... And undoes the broach of her cloak. "I think I went there... Someone took me there. Against my will. It's why I look like this..." She dips a hand her shadow again, stirring the dark ocean within, raising it up in her hand and watching it trickle through her fingers. "...Even if you've never been there, do you have stories, or histories, or... Anything?" She pauses... And
  740. [13:11] <Earthflame> concentrates... And the light around the boat dims appreciably. "...Is that nicer?"
  741. [13:14] <theMarg0r> Everyone stops rowing for a moment and looks at you. Gunny shivers. But more like someone slipping into a hot bath and settling in to relax rather than someone experiencing something unpleasant. "Thanks, much better."
  742. [13:14] <Samanhe> She blinks a couple of times as her eyes adjust. "...That's new."
  743. [13:15] <theMarg0r> "Stories? I'm guessing that's why the captain told you to talk to our shaman... yeah, she can DEFINITELY help you with that. Keeping our culture alive, that sort of thing."
  744. [13:18] <Earthflame> Ana nods slowly, giving him a smile. "Thank you for taking me... Hopefully I can figure out more about... What I am, now. I'm glad I can make things easier for you and yours."
  745. [13:24] <theMarg0r> "Yeah, yeah. You'll help us, we'll help you." he shifts his gaze from side to side, then switches to that other language again.
  746. [13:26] <theMarg0r> It sounds like he may or may not have mentioned Jen in that sentence. Hard to tell. Maybe it was just a sound-alike word.
  747. 06[13:26] * Jenifer_Teague glowers
  748. [13:26] <Earthflame> Ana looks curious... And then replies in the same tongue.
  749. [13:28] <theMarg0r> Gunny waves his bony claw hand in Jen's face dismissively. "Just helping the lady practice, miss. Nothing concerning you." this smug fucker. He goes back to conversing with Ana.

  759. [13:43] <Earthflame> Ana smiles at Gunny and gives a little laugh, before glancing to Jen and Sam. "They're fine, really. He's just explaining things to me... And making sure I don't sound like my lips are full of pufferfish venom." She turns back to Gunny, giving him a nod and a few more words.
  760. [13:44] <theMarg0r> They keep conversing. And something something "Risky Boots".
  761. [13:57] <theMarg0r> You arrive on the ship and the crewmembers start swarming around the new arrivals. That means you. Gunny starts clearing out a path for you, thankfully without firing a single shot. "Clear the way! I said clear the FUCKING way! I know even the dumbest of you shits can understand what I'm saying! Yeah, they're here to see the shaman, captain's orders. And somebody tell Cleaver to come see me!"
  762. [13:58] <theMarg0r> The sea of gangly-limbed midgets with eerily bright eyes parts and you descend below deck.
  763. [13:58] <theMarg0r> "Right, first things first. Anyone here who CAN'T see in the dark?"
  764. 06[13:58] * Jenifer_Teague grins.
  765. [13:59] <Samanhe> "I can't, but that ain't a problem so long as I hold onta Jen's gun-arm."
  766. [13:59] <Earthflame> "I can." She glances at Jen and Sammy. "I'll watch out for you, don't worry."
  767. [14:00] <Samanhe> "She can too." She jerks a thumb at Jen.
  768. [14:00] <theMarg0r> "Great. We aren't much for lights in here. ESPECIALLY in the shaman's cabin. She's sort of blind."
  769. [14:03] <theMarg0r> The ship isn't painted to better hide it in the night from the inside, but that doesn't matter because there's no light at all and those of you who can see see in greyscale, and those of you who can't (Samanhe) can't see shit anyways.
  770. [14:05] <theMarg0r> Now, when you round the corner and see what's apparently the shaman's door, some of you might be given a reason to pause. As it's covered in painted symbols that show up as bright red. In darkvision.
  771. 06[14:06] * Samanhe avoids clonking her head too many times by holding onto Jen, as she said she would.
  772. [14:06] <theMarg0r> "Now, do all of you INSIST on going in there with the young lady? Because I assure you. She's going to be just fine in there with just our shaman. I'm staying outside too."
  773. [14:07] <Jenifer_Teague> "Yep"
  774. [14:07] <Earthflame> Ana glances at Jen. "...I might learn more alone... Be able to speak more freely. Please? I trust these people." She turns to give Gunny a smile.
  775. [14:09] <theMarg0r> He tries to give a genuinely friendly smile back. His elongated egg-shaped head, huge hooknose and sharp teeth don't make it easy to recognize as such for someone outside his own species.
  776. [14:12] <Earthflame> Ana pauses, glancing down at her shadow and then at the door. "...Just let me try going in first, okay?"
  777. [14:14] <Jenifer_Teague> "...I don't trust this..." She frowns
  778. [14:15] <Earthflame> "They're just wards, against light and intrusion... But I'm worried my shadow might not get through." She looks down at it again.
  779. [14:16] <Samanhe> "Worried? Wouldn'tcha float away onna cloud o' bein' happy if you left it behind?"
  780. [14:17] <Earthflame> "If it gets stuck, I doubt I'll be able to go further."
  781. [14:17] <theMarg0r> Gunny rolls his eyes again. "Just go in when you're ready. All of you or just one of you. I'm staying right here."
  782. [14:17] <theMarg0r> He folds his arms and leans against the wall.
  783. [14:17] <Earthflame> Ana moves ahead, smiling back at the others. "Just give me a few minutes, okay?"
  784. [14:26] <Samanhe> "..." She frowns through the dark at where she hears Ana's voice coming from. "I gotta bad feelin' about this...but I s'pose given ev'rything so far, if anythin' happens in there it won't matter much if we're with ya or not."
  785. [14:37] <theMarg0r> "Still don't trust us? Tough shit. I guess you won't believe me if I tell you that if ANYTHING happened to any of you while on board, or, when I'm supposed to be making sure nothing happens to you, which is from when you came to the rowboat, until you leave, completely, the captain would have me chopped up."
  786. [14:38] <Samanhe> "Bad blood," she says by way of explanation, holding up Jen's arm that she's still holding onto.
  787. [14:42] <theMarg0r> Nothing holds Ana back or prevents her from entering should she go through the door. What a relief.
  788. [14:43] <Earthflame> She closes the door after she steps through it, looking around and uttering a tentative "...Hello?"
  789. [14:50] <theMarg0r> More vividly red paint lines the walls. More of the same, really. Other than that, the room is full of various savory or less savory 100% natural ingredients in jars, various scrolls and books, and at least one bottle of that same see-in-the-dark red paint. There is also furniture. A comfy looking bed, a couple short stools, and a table. Ana would have to stretch out her legs rather far out,...
  790. [14:51] <theMarg0r> ...or alternatively fold them under her really tight to be able to sit down, as they are rather undersized for a human-sized person.
  791. [14:51] <theMarg0r> And of course then there's the shaman herself, already sitting on one of the chairs.
  792. [14:51] <theMarg0r> Any worries about not being able to tell her apart from the males can be immediately dismissed.
  793. [14:53] <theMarg0r> While she DOES possess the gangly long arms that almost reach all the way to the ground, the rest of her is a lot less stretched out and more compact. Short, stubby legs, rotund torso, short neck, and rather than an oblong head with a hooknose, an even bigger round head with a rather small nose, but HUGE eyes and mouth.
  794. [14:53] <theMarg0r> Talk about sexual dimorphism. Which I just did.
  795. [14:54] <theMarg0r> "Come in, please."
  796. [14:54] <theMarg0r> She opens her eyes but doesn't look at you. She can't. Even in the dark her eyes are completely single-color white orbs.
  797. [14:54] <Earthflame> "Ah, thank you." Ana moves over... But kneels rather than sitting on everything. "Thank you for seeing me..."
  798. [14:57] <theMarg0r> "No trouble at all, child. I can already *see* the presence nesting within you and *feel* its connection to our ancestral homeland."
  799. [14:57] <Earthflame> "...You know it?" Her voice rises, full of hope as she stares at the woman. "Please... Tell me what you can... I've been so confused..."
  800. [14:57] <theMarg0r> "Please, tell me about your brush with what you might call the dark side."
  801. [14:58] <theMarg0r> "First, tell me how you came to possess it."
  802. [14:58] <theMarg0r> "I've already heard it was forced upon you, but I would rather hear it with your own words."
  803. [14:59] <Earthflame> Ana nods, going through her story again, as best she can... The night at the inn, Feldeposts curse, her kidnapping and drowning... Even up to the shadow in the town and the encounter beneath the graveyard, every detail she can remember...
  804. [15:05] <theMarg0r> "I see I see. It is true, then. The prisoners are no longer content with ruling over their own prison. They are trying to claw their way back, any means necessary. And you are somehow part of that."
  805. [15:07] <theMarg0r> "Tell me, how much do you know of your own past?" pause, she shakes her head. "No, not past. History."
  806. [15:07] <Earthflame> "...Not much. My mother lived in a small village, the place I grew up... She spent a night with a wandering Elvish Bard and... Well, had me. He never came through the town again. She described him to me, but nobody looking like that ever passed through again..."
  807. [15:12] <theMarg0r> "That's it then? No records, no stories of the past, of your ancestors?" pause "I'm afraid determining your place in the order of things... and WHY exactly you survived the attempt at sacrificing you might be difficult."
  808. [15:14] <Earthflame> "...I never thought we were anything special. Just another family in a little village..." She looks down. "...A Prophetess said I was linked to something ancient, an ancient evil... But I couldn't think what it might be..."
  809. [15:17] <theMarg0r> The shamaness sighs, some signs of bitterness now present in her voice. "Yes, yes of COURSE you wouldn't know... just dump the conquerors into another world and forget about them completely, right?" pause, back to neutral "What's past is past. I might be able to enlighten you when it comes to the nature of this evil, at least, if not on how you relate to it."
  810. [15:18] <Earthflame> "Please... Anything is more than I know now."
  811. [15:18] <Earthflame> "That thing, the shadow in the village... It called me 'Princess'..."
  812. [15:21] <theMarg0r> "Listen, then. As I relay to you the tale of something that happened in YOUR world, yet MINE is the one to remember it: In ancient times, there was a race that lived in the frozen wastes to the north of the mainland. They were tough and resilient, and burning with passion like the volcano, yet cold and bitter, just like the arctic winter."
  813. [15:23] <theMarg0r> "Powerful in mind and body, they saw the other races, the humans who occupied the lush, warm, plentiful mediterranean especially, as soft and unworthy of their natural resources, and so they sought to conquer them, exterminate them, and make their lands their own."
  814. [15:23] <Earthflame> Ana shivers at that.
  815. [15:26] <theMarg0r> "But a rich, hospitable land brings its own merits. The further south the conquerors went, the more they realized that they had a highly advanced civilization with legions of disciplined soldiers and wizards of great knowledge and power."
  816. [15:29] <theMarg0r> "Eventually, the would-be conquerors found themselves losing this war, and were "turned into shadow, and trapped in the ice of the arctic north."
  817. [15:29] <theMarg0r> "I believe this to be a mistranslation, or otherwise twisted by the passage of time."
  818. [15:29] <theMarg0r> "You've seen these "shadows", have you not?"
  819. [15:31] <Earthflame> She frowns at that. "...Maybe. The man in the tunnels, and the one who Miss Boots took her coat from? Or... The shade in the village? Or something else?" She looks down at her shadow again, unable to suppress a shiver.
  820. [15:32] <theMarg0r> "I think, what ACTUALLY happened was that once they were beaten back to their own inhospitable land, a gate - or multiple gates - were constructed to the Planes of Shadow. The conquerors were banished through these gates "in the ice", and a curse laid upon them - should they attempt to cross back to this world, they will find themselves as shadows without form, powerless, easily dispersed by...
  821. [15:32] <theMarg0r> ...even the slightest breeze."
  822. [15:32] <theMarg0r> "Much like the shade you've seen in the village."
  823. [15:33] <theMarg0r> "Though... that one might've been a side effect of the violent strain on the barrier between worlds, rather than one of THEM, directly."
  824. [15:34] <Earthflame> "Wait..." She looks up at the shamaness again. "They were exiled to the Shadow... But your people... You were the native people of that place, weren't you?"
  825. [15:36] <theMarg0r> "Yes, we were. You might think of "the shadows" as an inhospitable place where unknown terrors lurk, but I assure you, much like the sea is home to the fish who live there, the Shadow Plane was home to us. And we were unprepared."
  826. [15:37] <Earthflame> Ana bows her head at that. "...I'm sorry."
  827. [15:38] <theMarg0r> "Ah." she nods her head "Now you understand. The life of an outlaw, a pirate, away from home, is preferrable to that of a slave in your own homeland."
  828. [15:39] <Earthflame> She shivers again. "I... What can I do?"
  829. [15:42] <theMarg0r> "As for your specific predicament, I can offer you a theory, at least: When you were sacrificed - with the intention of weakening this ancient curse, what else - you *collided* with someone on the other side, and... bear with me, please, this isn't the easiest to put into words, you *bounced* back, just as you were *entangled*."
  830. [15:42] <theMarg0r> "Why your soul didn't just immediately dissolve into pure energy that was meant to eat away at the barrier, that is the question."
  831. [15:43] <Earthflame> She glances down at her shadow again. "...The Priestess said she felt a presence. A being within my shadow... It's one of... One of Them?"
  832. [15:44] <theMarg0r> "Possibly, but... you said the shade in the village called you "princess"? What else did it say? Please try to remember as exactly as possible."
  833. [15:47] <Earthflame> "It called me Princess... But when I got closer it said it had mistaken me for someone else, that it was lost..." She shivers, the memory still vivid in her mind. "...And when I touched it, they melted away..."
  834. [15:48] <theMarg0r> "Perhaps they have mistaken you for whoever it is you *collided* with, your forms overlapping in its vision."
  835. [15:49] <Earthflame> She pauses, looking at her shadow again, eyes wide. "...She must be as lost, as confused and as scared as I am..."
  836. [15:49] <theMarg0r> "If you have somehow been *entangled* with the daughter of the conqueror, the best solution you could hope for is a quick and painless death. You should probably pray to all the gods that it was someone, anyone else."
  837. [15:49] <theMarg0r> "And yes, yes she must."
  838. [15:50] <Earthflame> "...But why would he call it a weapon? The man in the tunnels... Why would he promise to free me of it, if he could take possession of it?" She shakes her head. "I'm... I'm not just going to lay down and die." She pauses. "...The shade mentioned masters, and said I wasn't one... And asked a Princess for aid. If she was part of the Conquerors... Would they really feel hope, rather than fear?"
  839. [15:54] <theMarg0r> The shaman repeats your words back to you "The shade mentioned masters, and said you weren't one..." pause "THAT'S what I needed to hear. I have no idea who this "princess" is, but now we can at least be sure that the one you met was a confused slave, caught up in an attempt to cross the barrier."
  840. [15:55] <Earthflame> She bows her head. "...Does that mean they were probably one of your people? I'm sorry... I wish I could have done more for them..."

  842. [15:56] <theMarg0r> "Perhaps there has been a new movement of freedom fighters in recent years?" pause "This is part of the reason my captain has asked you to go on a scouting mission. We need to know what's going on, but we can't go ourselves. They would fall upon us instantly and beat us into submission. You will at least have the element of surprise."
  843. 03[15:56] * Jenifer_Teague ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  844. [15:58] <Earthflame> "...And I won't draw their attention? I wouldn't want to endanger the others..."
  845. [15:59] <theMarg0r> "If I've never seen anything like you, then I doubt they have either. Even if they could feel the presence inside you, YOU are clearly not of the... of the servant races."
  846. [16:00] <theMarg0r> "You look nothing like one of us, nor a Xvart, nor a Kobold, nor a Fetchling."
  847. [16:00] <Earthflame> She nods, giving the woman a soft smile. "...I'll do what I can, then..."
  848. 02[16:01] * Samanhe ([email protected]) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
  849. [16:02] <theMarg0r> "I know you will, your own well-being is at stake just as much as ours."
  850. [16:02] <Earthflame> She laughs darkly at that. "But the shadow men... The one whose coat Miss Boots took... Have you heard of anything like them before?"
  851. 02[16:04] * Disconnected
  852. Session Close: Wed Mar 18 16:04:23 2015
  853.
  854. Session Start: Sun Mar 22 07:45:49 2015
  855. Session Ident: #DDPFIC
  856. 03[07:45] * Now talking in #DDPFIC
  857. 03[07:52] * Jenifer_Teague ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  858. 06[07:54] * Kat is outside under a tree, taking a nap. Same place the others left her earlier this afternoon.
  859. 06[07:54] * Jenifer_Teague is clomping back towards the inn. She doesn't look happy.
  860. 06[07:56] * Samanhe has left Ana to her own devices, to digest the whatever it was she got from the supposed shaman on the pirate's ship. Instead she follows behind Jen, letting the woman stew for now.
  861. [07:57] <Jenifer_Teague> "Stupid Pirate...Stupid Ship...Stupid Shaman...gunna find me a cannon..." Jennifer is muttering as she clomps along.
  862. 06[07:59] * Samanhe doesn't argue. Pirates are still pirates, with or without a letter of marque, after all.
  863. 06[08:00] * Jenifer_Teague stops, having spotted Kat. She sighs "...gods and devils, I just HATE dealing with that woman. It was worse when we were both eight...but now?"
  864. [08:01] <Samanhe> "...Yer sister, or Hissy Boots?"
  865. [08:01] <Jenifer_Teague> "Bitchy Witchy, not Kat."
  866. [08:02] <Samanhe> "Kay. 'Cause Kat's right there, an' sometimes I ain't quite sure who yer mad at."
  867. 06[08:02] * Samanhe points to the obviously slumbering figure.
  868. [08:03] <Jenifer_Teague> "No, no...she's my adorable little, fashion-dead Sister."
  869. [08:06] <Samanhe> "Well, then why don't ya wake her up an' take her clothes-shoppin'? That's always cheered ya up before, even if ya don't end up buyin' nothin'."
  870. 06[08:06] * Jenifer_Teague ponders...and starts giggling.
  871. 06[08:11] * Jenifer_Teague walks quietly over towards Kat to poke her awake. She pauses...and takes a few steps back, finding a stick to poke her with instead. One longer than Kat's blade.
  872. 06[08:19] * Jenifer_Teague engages poking.
  873. 06[08:20] * Kat grabs the stick with one hand, snaps it in half with the other, and rolls over on her side, still asleep
  874. 06[08:20] * Samanhe sighs, looking over at Jen. "Noise?"
  875. 06[08:20] * Jenifer_Teague finds a new stick and resumes poking.
  876. 06[08:22] * Kat yanks the other stick, though this seems to wake her up. "Whasgoingon."
  877. [08:23] <Jenifer_Teague> "We are taking you shopping. Shopping therapy was decided to be needed."
  878. [08:23] <Samanhe> "Sleepin' beauty awakes," she quips.
  879. 06[08:24] * Kat rubs her eyes. "Pirate meeting went that bad, huh?"
  880. [08:25] <Jenifer_Teague> "I never said it was for me." She pouts. It's pretty obvious. "...and hey, how come I never get called Sleeping Beauty?"
  881. [08:25] <Samanhe> "'cause you sleep heavier'n she does so you never hear me say it."
  882. [08:26] <Jenifer_Teague> "I do not..." Yes she does.
  883. [08:26] <Samanhe> "I suppose," she shrugs, "if'n it means that much to ya, I can start sayin' it in public."
  884. [08:26] <Samanhe> "That'd only mean Ana thinks even harder that we're all married up."
  885. 06[08:26] * Jenifer_Teague blushes slightly. "...that's not needed."
  886. 01[08:27] <Kat> "Everyone thinks that as it is." She stands.
  887. [08:28] <Jenifer_Teague> "Oh come on, why do people keep saying this!"
  888. [08:28] <Samanhe> "See?" she deadpans. "Anyway, Kat, it ain't that it went poorly, it's just that any time Jen has to deal with Hissy Boots an' there ain't cannons between 'em, it makes fer a bad day."
  889. 06[08:28] * Jenifer_Teague pouts "Remember that priest? He asked if we were living in sin..."
  890. 01[08:29] <Kat> "Anyway, where are we going first?"
  891. [08:29] <Samanhe> "An' then ya put a bullet 'twixt his knees and that shut him up real fast.'
  892. [08:30] <Jenifer_Teague> "For a value of shut up. He called us godless heathens and stormed off. Which I don't think is fair. Mephestopheles isn't a GOD in the first place to be a priest of. He's a demon."
  893. 06[08:31] * Samanhe nods sagely.
  894. [08:32] <Samanhe> "Got anywhere ya need ta get first, Kat? Aside from any o' yer smart-arse replies, like 'back ta sleep'." She lifts her fingers in air quotes.
  895. 01[08:33] <Kat> "Not really."
  896. [08:34] <Jenifer_Teague> "Hmm...how many outfits do you own Kat? I mean, outside the one I bought you."
  897. 01[08:34] <Kat> "Um, three? They're mostly padded cloth to go under my armor."
  898. [08:35] <Jenifer_Teague> "...I mean real 'Wear about town' clothes. Not underpadding for armour."
  899. [08:35] <Samanhe> "Hoo boy." She pats Jen on the shoulder. "Go easy on her."
  900. 01[08:35] <Kat> "None, then. It's hard to find pretty outfits that are also usable in combat with armor."
  901. 06[08:36] * Samanhe snickers.
  902. [08:36] <Jenifer_Teague> "Hard?" She raises an eyebrow...and grins.
  903. 06[08:42] * Jenifer_Teague starts giggling too
  904. 03[08:44] * Toadfoot_Feldepost ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  905. 01[08:48] <Kat> "Something tells me you already know what you're going to do."
  906. [08:49] <Jenifer_Teague> "Maybe~" The giggling intensifies. "If it helps? It will involve pants. Becuase you want to fight."
  907. 01[08:50] <Kat> "
  908. 01[08:50] <Kat> "I'll take small victories where I can get them."
  909. [08:50] <Jenifer_Teague> "Dresses can be for another time~ So, any preferences?"
  910. 01[08:51] <Kat> "Something that'll give me freedom of movement. I have to twist and swing a lot with my fighting style, so anything that impedes that is out."
  911. [08:52] <Samanhe> "She did say pants were included."
  912. [08:52] <Jenifer_Teague> "...right. So nothing too loose and flowing." One gets the feeling that she's only hearing what she wants to hear.
  913. 06[08:55] * Jenifer_Teague nods...and stats to lead on. The spring has returned to her step.
  914. 06[08:55] * Kat follows
  915. 03[08:56] * Deedles ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  916. 06[08:57] * Samanhe keeps up with the pair.
  917. 03[08:57] * Deedles is now known as Jaeger
  918. 06[09:03] * Jenifer_Teague leads towards one of the biggest, most impressive stores in the city. Two entire stories of clothing, with servents and nobility and employees everywhere...all measuring and fitting and a whole flurry of colours, the whole visible spectrum...that and some sorceress who seems to have passed beyond it with her fashion.
  919. 06[09:05] * Samanhe falters only slightly as they approach. She's seen the place, of course, but has never been inside.
  920. 06[09:07] * Jenifer_Teague grins "I love this place. I used to visit ALL the time~"
  921. 01[09:07] <Kat> "Quite the store for an island like this."
  922. [09:07] <Samanhe> "Ain't been in yet...which is actually a little strange," she says, glancing sideways at Jen.
  923. [09:08] <Jenifer_Teague> "I never start with the main attraction~" She laughs musically.
  924. [09:09] <Samanhe> "We've been here long enough."
  925. [09:11] <Jenifer_Teague> "...well...ok...fine, there IS another reason." She looks about, as if to check if she's being watched.
  926. [09:11] <Samanhe> "Oh this has gotta be good." She folds her arms, waiting with one eyebrow tweaked.
  927. [09:12] <Jenifer_Teague> "It's not THAT good..." She protests.
  928. 01[09:13] <Kat> "Did you get kicked out of here last time?"
  929. [09:15] <Jenifer_Teague> "...no and...you were PART of this. Remember when you were nine and our parents invited that Sorceress lady for a feast? And we kinda...threw grapes at her?"
  930. [09:16] <Jenifer_Teague> She blushes a bit more "...liquid grapes."
  931. 01[09:16] <Kat> "Because you thought she was a witch and the only thing we had on hand was wine. Yes, I remember."
  932. [09:16] <Jenifer_Teague> "She had a pointy hat!"
  933. [09:17] <Samanhe> "An' now yer hopin' ten years kinda fulled the furor?"
  934. [09:17] <Samanhe> "Or whatever."
  935. 01[09:17] <Kat> "I'm not exactly sure why we thought she would melt if we threw wine at her."
  936. [09:18] <Jenifer_Teague> "It worked in the story with water and wine is sorta like water..."
  937. 01[09:18] <Kat> "Anyway, so she runs this place?"
  938. [09:19] <Jenifer_Teague> "Yes. She is also, by the way, kinda umm...nobility. Not royalty...but nobility."
  939. 01[09:25] <Kat> "What kind of nobility?"
  940. 06[09:26] * Jenifer_Teague rubs the back of her head "...A duchess? So hopefully she's just delgating?"
  941. 01[09:26] <Kat> "Well, hopefully she can let bygones be bygones, then."
  942. [09:26] <Samanhe> "Well that's just one o' the low ones, innit? Nothin' ta worry about, right?"
  943. 03[09:26] * Earthflame ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  944. 01[09:27] <Kat> "Nno, a Duke or Duchess is only a step or two removed from a King or Queen."
  945. [09:28] <Jenifer_Teague> "...our parents are Barons...that's one of the technically lower ones." She nods "And yes...hopefully she won't have us Toad or something."
  946. [09:33] <Samanhe> "...Oh."
  947. [09:35] <Samanhe> "We, uh...never really had ta worry 'bout learnin' none o' that on the farm, bein' a colony an' all. We were lucky ta know who was king or queen."
  948. 06[09:36] * Jenifer_Teague leads inside, looking both excited and a little nervous.
  949. 06[09:41] * Samanhe follows her in.
  950. 06[09:42] * Kat follows
  951. [09:43] <Jenifer_Teague> The inside of the store is...an assault of colour and shapes and smells, the air heavy with perfumes...
  952. 06[09:44] * Samanhe coughs a couple of times upon entry. "Geh...how's anyone smell anythin' after goin' in here?"
  953. 03[10:08] * Ana ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  954. 03[10:08] * Earthflame ([email protected]) has left #DDPFIC
  955. [10:25] <theMarg0r> You've all decided to take Risky Boots up on her offer. Jen explains the situation to her superiors and receives permission to go get help, since the Southern Cross port is currently severely undersupplied to handle extensive repairs. You are all ready to board the Shadow of Doubt... again. Some of you for the first time.
  956. 06[10:26] * Jenifer_Teague looks very unhappy about it.
  957. [10:27] <Ana> Ana looks oddly happy about it.
  958. 06[10:28] * Kat is a normal level of surly.
  959. [10:28] <theMarg0r> "If you're all done being pouty." Gunny still doesn't care about Jen's feelings "The captain's waiting for you. We're gonna take you to an Albion port first but there's some things you should know about the temple as well, so we'll be going over that on the way."
  960. 06[10:29] * Samanhe shrugs.
  961. 06[10:30] * Toadfoot_Feldepost is rather tight-lipped as he graciously boards the vessel. He does not seem to acknowledge the fact that he drips seawater and leaves wet footprints on the deck. He gives Ana a nod of encouragement.
  962. 06[10:33] * Jenifer_Teague continues her poutiness.
  963. 06[10:35] * Jaeger was studying the ship as he slowly walked along the deck
  964. [10:36] <Ana> Ana gives Gunny a smile and a nod, looking... Almost comfortable as she comes aboard.
  965. 06[10:37] * Toadfoot_Feldepost plods over and nudges Ana. "Say, are these... people charging a passenger fare?"
  966. 06[10:37] * Jenifer_Teague shivers a bit as she comes aboard. She doesn't like the feel.
  967. [10:38] <Ana> "Hm? Oh, no boss. We're doing them a favour."
  968. 06[10:39] * Toadfoot_Feldepost blinks. "What sort of favour? I didn't heaI MEAN, uh, ahem, what sort of deal have you worked out with this captain Boots?"
  969. 01[10:41] <Kat> "Jen's ship got busted up, so we're going somewhere to kill some people in the name of getting it fixed. Also other stuff probably."
  970. [10:41] <Ana> "...The place we're going is connected to what happened to us, Boss. We might find some answers."
  971. [10:41] <theMarg0r> The sailors start swarming around you, AGAIN. This time, Gunny doesn't have to expend much effort to disperse them. Risky Boots comes on deck and they part for her as if by magic. She's still wearing that ill-fitting grey coat. "Welcome, welcome!" she waves her big ol' pirate hat at you. "I'm SO glad you decided to join us... come on in." Gunny walks up to her, before he can say anything,...
  972. [10:42] <theMarg0r> ...she tells him: "We set sail for Rabbit Island. See to it. I'll take care of our guests."
  973. [10:42] <theMarg0r> Gunny starts giving out orders as Risky Boots invites you to her cabin.
  974. 06[10:43] * Jenifer_Teague glowers at her and follows. She stage-whispers to the others "Don't trust her. I've known her long enough to know what. Since my eighth birthday party."
  975. [10:43] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "K-..." - Feldepost looks aghast up at the raven-haired fighty-woman. "You didn't sign us on as some sort of villainous raiding party, did you?" he whispers at Ana.
  976. [10:43] <Ana> "...She's been honest with me, Jen. Her Shaman was really helpful..." She shoots Gunny another smile, and absentmindedly waves a hand to dim the deck- No sense not showing kindness to the crew.
  977. [10:44] <Ana> "Heroic, boss. There's a difference."
  978. [10:45] <theMarg0r> Most of the other members of your group tower over Risky's short hunched crew members, but Feldepost is at eye level with them. With their big hooknoses and large, strangely colorful eyes. I imagine it's rather unnerving.
  979. 06[10:45] * Toadfoot_Feldepost croaks skeptically. He gives Ana a worried glance, then makes to follow Captain Boots to her cabin, lest he offend.
  980. [10:46] <theMarg0r> She leads you into the ship, into darkness. "Oh, would you look at that, I forgot about lights. But I'm sure those of you who need light to see have your own, right?
  981. [10:46] <Jenifer_Teague> "She's not heroic. Her heart is as grubby as that stupid looking hat." She adjusts her own tricorn.
  982. [10:47] <theMarg0r> Anything that could be considered windows is either flat out boarded up or otherwise covered.
  983. 06[10:48] * Samanhe holds on to Jen's arm again as they enter the total darkness.
  984. 06[10:48] * Toadfoot_Feldepost quivers as he looks around the darkened cabin. Maybe he's just freezing from being all damp. Though it appears clearly to him in monochrome darkvision, it doesn't exactly impart a cozy feel.
  985. 06[10:48] * Kat just walks into the darkness and sits down.
  986. [10:49] <Ana> Ana barely seems to notice the darkness, walking confidently.
  987. 06[10:51] * Toadfoot_Feldepost clears his throat. "Well, uh..." - He pats himself down and rummages in his bag, but doesn't seem to find what he's looking for. "I personally think a soft candle-light makes a room much more homey and comforting. Don't you?" he asks, his voice squeaking hopefully.
  988. 06[10:52] * Jenifer_Teague gently guides Sam towards a seat.
  989. [10:52] <theMarg0r> "By the way, girl..." Risky pulls out the dark round glasses and pushes them in front of Ana's face. "Have you tried those? They're pretty awesome." as Ana looks through the lenses, suddenly, she can see colors, even in the darkness!
  990. [10:53] <Ana> "Oh!" Ana pulls out her own pair, slipping them onto her head and looking around- Before looking at Sammy. "Oh-!" She passes them across. "These might help?"
  991. [10:53] <theMarg0r> "What's the problem, Toady?" Risky pats Feldepost on the head. "Aren't you used to dark moist places?"
  992. [10:53] <theMarg0r> Nope. They don't give darkvision. They just give the ability to see colors to people who already HAVE darkvision.
  993. [10:54] <Ana> "...Um. The boss was cursed when I was, Miss Boots... Differently, but..."
  994. [10:54] <Samanhe> "What's 'these?'" She fumbles around with whatever Ana has pressed into her hands.
  995. 06[10:54] * Toadfoot_Feldepost flinches away from the captain's touch. "I beg your pardon, madam!"
  996. [10:55] <Ana> "...Oh, sorry." She gently takes them back. "They're the glasses the shadow man dropped... I can see colours through them. In the dark, I mean." She slips them back onto herself.
  997. [10:56] <theMarg0r> "Aye, mine "dropped" a pair too." pause for dramatic effect "And by "dropped" I mean I grabbed them off his cold, dead face after we riddled him with lead."
  998. [10:57] <Samanhe> "Ah. Well, I do good with a little bit o' light, but not none. Sorry."
  999. [10:57] <Jenifer_Teague> "Here, I'll help some of the people here." A glowing halo appears around her head as a small stone starts to orbit it. The light is soft and gentle, though it lights up most of the room.
  1000. [10:57] <Samanhe> "Ah, *perfect*. Thanks, Jen."
1001. 06[10:57] * Jenifer_Teague grins "SOME people here prefer dramatics to sight."
1002. 06[10:57] * Toadfoot_Feldepost breathes a relieved sigh as colour returns to the world.
1003. [10:59] <theMarg0r> "Anyway." she points at a table in the middle of the cabin. There lies a crude drawing of a pyramid-like structure from the side. "There's some things about the temple you'll be going to that we should go over."
1004. [11:00] <Ana> Ana pulls off the glasses, blinking a bit while her shadow retreats beneath her chair. She looks closely at the pyramid diagram...
1005. 06[11:00] * Toadfoot_Feldepost scampers over to the opposite side of the table from the captain to take a closer look.
1006. [11:01] <theMarg0r> "First, there's no easy entrances for land-dwellers. The Nagas and all of their servants are either aquatic or amphibious. The only real way in is through a tunnel filled with water. The entrance to which is probably hidden somewhere nearby."
1007. [11:02] <theMarg0r> The diagram indeed shows that there are NO DOORS that lead to the inside of the structure, just a curved tunnel that goes under the surface of the earth into the middle of the ground floor, labelled "tunnel, filled with water, leads to pool (probably filled with piranhas)"
  1008. 06[11:02] * Toadfoot_Feldepost lets out a dispirited "uggh..."
  1009. [11:03] <Ana> "...I'm not a good swimmer..."
1010. 06[11:04] * Jenifer_Teague holds up a hand "You know Piranhas rarely attack people, right?"
  1011. [11:07] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "'Rarely'?"
1012. [11:08] <Jenifer_Teague> "Mostly just children. Sometimes halflings."
1013. [11:08] <theMarg0r> "There IS another way in, however, that one involves a difficult climb, and if you fall, you're going in the sacrificial basin anyway." Risky looks Jen straight in the eye. "These are trained piranhas. As I was saying..." she points at the top level of the pyramid structure, there seems to be a small "hut", separated from the rest of the structure, labelled "fake shrine, fake mirror, floor...
  1014. [11:08] <theMarg0r> ...is a trapdoor"
  1015. [11:08] <Samanhe> "'s it a fake trapdoor too?"
1016. [11:09] <Jenifer_Teague> "Trained piranhas? How dull does your life have to be to go and do that?" She raises an eyebrow but is paying attention.
  1017. [11:10] <Ana> "...I'm not great at climbing, either."
1018. [11:11] <Samanhe> "I'm decent at it. I'll help ya along." She nods to Ana.
1019. [11:11] <theMarg0r> "You COULD go at it from the top and cause the fake floor here to open on purpose, then climb in. It's a straight drop down to the piranha pool, but there are raised platforms to the sides, that are connected to the rest of the building."
1020. [11:12] <Ana> "We could lower ropes..." She nods slowly.
1021. [11:12] <theMarg0r> "As I said, it'd be a difficult climb, as you'd either have to either get a rope, climb in, and then swing side to side to reach the walls, OR somehow climb diagonally down the walls."
1022. [11:12] <Jenifer_Teague> "How big is this pool?"
1023. [11:15] <theMarg0r> "The ground floor of the central room IS the pool. Aside from the tunnel in the middle, which is about 10 feet in diameter, it's all filled at least up to waist-level with water. As I said, the Nagas or their servants have no problem moving in water."
1024. [11:15] <theMarg0r> "You'd want to get to higher ground as soon as possible."
1025. [11:16] <Jenifer_Teague> "Mostly wondering if we could deal with the dangerous trained piranhas with Bottled Lightning."
1026. 06[11:16] * Toadfoot_Feldepost raises a finger. "Perhaps someone in town sells climbing tools. Maybe that general store with the lovely lady who offered us stew."
1027. 01[11:16] <Kat> "Through the top is probably our best bet, either way. Unless we figure out a way to help us breathe underwater."
1028. [11:17] <Ana> "I could brew some of that..." Ana nods to Jen.
1029. [11:18] <theMarg0r> "I thought so. And it means you won't have to fight through the entire temple." she points at the plan again. Aside from the single trap room at the top, it seems to be a three-story structure. "Bottom floor is servants. Middle floor is warriors' quarters. Top floor is the high priest, and the ACTUAL mirror."
1030. [11:19] <theMarg0r> "But hey, if you can get past the trap floor, even the fake mirror is a large, smooth, polished piece of pure obsidian. It'd be worth SOMETHING."
1031. [11:21] <theMarg0r> "Sometimes they set it into a gold frame just to lure people in, too. Not sure about this specific temple, though."
1032. [11:22] <theMarg0r> "The basic floor plan is ALWAYS the same, so no need to worry about that. This plan is accurate."
1033. [11:23] <Ana> Ana nods again, but looks up at Risky Boots. "...Although, from what your Shaman told me... The temple is the easy bit."
  1034. [11:24] <Jenifer_Teague> "What's the hard part?"
1035. [11:24] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "... I don't suppose these 'naga' chaps would simply be willing to give a tour of their temple for a small donation, would they?"
1036. [11:25] <theMarg0r> "If by "small donation" you mean your entire body so they can cut out your heart and throw the rest of you to the piranhas, sure. Small enough."
1037. [11:26] <Jenifer_Teague> "Well, you don't have a heart and have never had an issue with giving away your body so...sounds good, where do we push you?" She grins.
  1038. 06[11:26] * Toadfoot_Feldepost pouts. "Hm. I don't believe I can afford that..."
1039. [11:26] <Samanhe> "Jen," she warns, though she's fighting a smile--and there's laughter under her attempt to sound stern.
1040. [11:27] <Ana> Ana takes a moment to stare between Jen and Boots, before asking in an exasperated tone. "...What Happened between you two? Did you steal her boyfriend or something?"
  1041. 01[11:27] <Kat> "I wish I could help but I honestly don't remember her."
1042. [11:27] <Samanhe> "They knew each other for years an' both're pirates, Ana," she says, as if that explains everything.
  1043. [11:27] <Samanhe> "Well, pirate one, privateer th'other."
  1044. [11:27] <Jenifer_Teague> "Well, for starters she ruined my eighth birthday party...and I'm not a pirate. I'm a priva...yes, that."
1045. [11:30] <theMarg0r> "Anyway, hard part? That's for you to figure out. I... we need to know what's on the other side of that mirror. No special training or ritual needed, you just go through. It's always open. Kill everyone who opposes you on the other side, if it's guarded. Then get me some intel. Find out who's in charge. If it's the same ugly bastards who've been for the past couple thousand years, find out...
1046. [11:30] <theMarg0r> ...if there's some sort of resistance or rebellion or something. If there isn't, get out. If there is, show them the mirror. Make sure they're in control of it on their side. Then you can come back. And we'll be even."
1047. 01[11:31] <Kat> "Wait, ruined your eighth birthday party..."
1048. [11:31] <Ana> Ana nods, glancing at the others. "...This is more than just doing Miss Boots a favour. From what the Shaman told me... Our world is responsible for what happened to theirs. I think that's what the prophecy meant about an ancient crime... Somewhere in the past, we're responsible for it. So we should fix it."
1049. [11:32] <Samanhe> "Well, if they carry a grudge that long, I ain't all that convinced it's us what need ta make up fer a crime." She makes a vague gesture at Ana and Feldepost.
1050. [11:34] <theMarg0r> Risky shrugs. "If you feel obliged to get involved more, by all means. I'm just telling you what you need to do to pay me back for giving you a lift."
1051. 06[11:34] * Jenifer_Teague shrugs "That and it's just unfair to have people bear the sins of the father. I'll be damned if I actually know what they are doing or why though."
1052. [11:35] <Samanhe> "Guess we'll at least take that look, though. What's the worst we can find?"
1053. 06[11:35] * Kat leans over to Jen and whispers something in her ear.
1054. [11:35] <Ana> "...The remains of an evil empire which almost conquered our world, which did conquer that one and is trying to break back through to wage war on us again?" Ana pauses. "...I need to tell you all what the Shaman told me."
1055. 06[11:36] * Toadfoot_Feldepost frowns. "I certainly shouldn't like to be held responsible for what any of my ancestors did. Why, just thinking of what uncle Bolor did to that gryphon makes me cringe. It wouldn't be fair, I tell you!"
  1056. [11:36] <Jenifer_Teague> "It would help."
1057. [11:36] <Samanhe> "Yeah prob'ly, 'cause yer not makin' any sense."
1058. [11:36] <Ana> Ana gives them a quick summary of what the Shaman told her, glancing to Boots for confirmation or asking questions about things she might have gotten wrong.
  1059. 06[11:38] * Jenifer_Teague whispers back to Kat
  1060. 06[11:39] * Kat starts giggling at Jen's response.
1061. [11:39] <Samanhe> Something twigs far too late. "Wait. Rabbit Island? Th'temple-thing's THERE?"
1062. [11:42] <theMarg0r> "No, elf girl, no, pay attention. We're making a stop at Rabbit Island so Jenny here can inform Albion authorities about Besmara's Bounty being stuck at Southern Cross for the moment."
1063. [11:42] <theMarg0r> "THEN we're going to the uncharted island where the temple is."
1064. 06[11:42] * Kat stops giggling. "Sorry Penny, I didn't recognize you at first."
1065. [11:43] <Samanhe> "Oh, phew. I was gonna say, I don't recognize nothin' like that building, but I guess that explains why." She blows out a sigh of relief.
1066. [11:45] <theMarg0r> Risky Boots tilts her head to the side as she stares at Kat, confused at first. Then it dawns on her and she croaks: "I'm gonna let that go you snot-nosed brat, just this once."
1067. [11:46] <theMarg0r> She does her best to ignore it. "Any questions? If not you all can kindly get the hell out of my cabin. Go mingle with the crew, or something."
1068. [11:47] <Jenifer_Teague> "Yeah, I have a question. These crazy snake high priests. Lay or actually the wrath of god throwin' sort?"
1069. 06[11:49] * Samanhe leaves the cabin, heads to the main deck, and starts climbing the mainmast, looking for a place to perch for a while.
1070. 06[11:50] * Kat stands and waves. "Good seeing you again." She smirks, and walks out.
1071. [11:51] <theMarg0r> "Good! Good question." she latches onto it as means to maintain composure. "Some of them have the ability to use divine magic. ALL of them, though, including their guards, have psychic abilities. They're a gifted race that way. Then there's the Jaguar Warriors. Those are not magical and not psychic. You shouldn't have any problems with those. Unless you see a black panther. If you DO see a...
1072. [11:51] <theMarg0r> ...black panther, KILL THEM INSTANTLY. They're sorcerers. Very nasty."
  1073. [11:52] <Ana> Ana nods slowly.
  1074. [11:53] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "..."
1075. [11:53] <Jenifer_Teague> "So basicly: If it looks at me, shoot it. I can handle that."
1076. [11:55] <Jaeger> Jaeger quietly studied the map of the temple, scratching his beard before heading out of the cabin, pondering.
1077. [11:58] <theMarg0r> @Samanhe: Unsurprisingly, there's someone in the crow's nest. He starts shaking his fist and cursing at you in that language you don't understand as you climb up there. At least you're pretty sure he is. You don't understand the words, but the tone of voice is pretty universal.
1078. 06[11:59] * Samanhe shrugs and moves to sit on the spar instead. A few feet lower, a little less stable, and she has to take care for the sheets, but hey.
1079. [11:59] <theMarg0r> His irises are almost the same shade of yellow as his sclera. It looks even more creepy than the rest of them.
1080. [11:59] <theMarg0r> The lookout keeps grumbling to himself, but calms down for the most part and goes back to doing his job.
1081. [12:00] <Ana> "If we can get the ingredients when we stop at port, I can probably brew enough bottled lightning to stun most things in the pool, if not kill them... It should give us enough time to get in." Ana nods. "I wonder... You could use a poison too, but we'd have to wade through it, so that might not be the best idea..."
1082. [12:01] <Jenifer_Teague> "Yeah...I mean, it's waist height...so that's a lot of us in any contact poison you toss in there and most ones you eat are not that fast..."
1083. [12:02] <Ana> "We could... Also try a bomb... It's loud, but it should stun or scare any animals, no matter how well trained they are."
1084. [12:03] <theMarg0r> Risky Boots proceeds to ignore you, as if to silently encourage you to finally get out. And being really passive-aggressive about it.
1085. 06[12:05] * Jenifer_Teague grins at her "Oh come on there Penny. Let your shining personality out~" She gestures...and the pirate is coated in magic glitter.
  1086. 06[12:05] * Jenifer_Teague makes her escape
1087. [12:05] <Ana> Ana blinks, looking up in momentary confusion as Jen runs.
1088. [12:07] <theMarg0r> Risky punches the table. She doesn't break it in half or anything, but the wood DOES crack. The sudden motion also causes the glitter to swirl around her like a cloud of dust. Glittering dust. Which it is.
1089. [12:08] <Ana> "...Sorry about her." Ana stands. "...If I can help at all, let me know? Your Shaman did really help me, a lot... And I want to help them. The people of the shadow..." She gives a little smile. "For now, I feel like I'm one of them."
1090. 06[12:10] * Toadfoot_Feldepost lets out a clipped yelp and staggers a few steps back from the table.
1091. [12:10] <theMarg0r> "Yeah, yeah, that's great." she grumbles. "If you want to help me RIGHT NOW? Piss in her morning tea. Or steal all her clothes so she has to run around naked. Now get the fuck out."
1092. [12:11] <Ana> Ana nods... Absentmindedly answering in shadowspeak before she leaves.
1093. 06[12:11] * Toadfoot_Feldepost shuffles out after Ana and tugs at her clothes, gesturing with his head toward one of the railings.
1094. [12:15] <Ana> Ana gives him a glance, moving with him to the rail and asking quietely. "Boss?"
1095. 06[12:16] * Toadfoot_Feldepost looks up at her with a serious expression - as serious as his big, froggy mouth and bulging eyes can manage, at any rate. "Ana, are you sure about this? Listening to this whole scheme in the cabin..." - He rubs his head uncomfortably, his eyes starting to roam. "Some of the finer points may have eluded me, but going to this flooded temple and... killing the people there. I mean, in the
1096. [12:16] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> cemetery, they were already dead, so that's neither here nor there..."
1097. 06[12:16] * Toadfoot_Feldepost looks over his shoulder at their companions: The one with the fancy guns, the one with the big sword, up at the one with the bow perched on the mast for some reason... He draws closer to Ana. "You and I, we got fairly good at creeping through all those ruins, tunnels and caves, and certainly there were a few times when we had to, well..." - He makes a guilty shrug. "I admit crocodile meat
1098. [12:16] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> wasn't the worst. But what about them?" - He purses his lips, distraught, and drops to a whisper. "They are killers, Ana. Is that where we're going?"
1099. [12:19] <Ana> Ana is quiet for a moment, looking out the sea with a sad little smile. "...I think I already am, boss. The shadow that came back with me... He called it a weapon. And I don't think we're ever going to be free of these curses without fighting against the source of them." She looks down to him, squeezing his shoulder. "...But what choice do we have? I... There isn't a life for us, like this. We
1100. [12:19] <Ana> have to keep going... No matter what it takes."
1101. 06[12:22] * Toadfoot_Feldepost holds Ana's gaze for a few meaningful moments, then takes a deep breath and turns to look out to sea. He tries resting his arms on the railing, but being vertically challenged as he is, he finds it more comfortable to simply lay down his chin on it for his thousand mile stare. "If you can do it, I'm with you. But I am starting to think we can never go back to how things were."
1102. [12:23] <Ana> "...Don't say that, Boss. You're still You. They didn't change that much... We'll find a way to get you back to your old self, and then you can return home. Just like we planned."
1103. 06[12:29] * Toadfoot_Feldepost furrows his brow. "Back to our old selves, just like planned..." he echoes without conviction. "Even if I get back my sideburns and hairy toes - my grooming kit's just collecting dust with this slick, green skin, you know - I'm not so sure." - He straightens his back and takes a deep breath, forcing a more cheerful expression as he looks up at Ana again. "When do we set sail? I think a nice
1104. [12:29] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> bouillabaisse is just what we and the crew need."
1105. [12:30] <Ana> That makes Ana laugh, stooping to give him a hug. "You're just the same old Feldepost, boss."
1106. [12:31] <theMarg0r> Gunny is making sure you set sail as you are speaking. The ship is buzzing with activity.

1124. Just the belly), the ship's cook, with an accent reminiscent of Sammy's, and "Stick", missing half of...

1126. [08:56] <theMarg0r> No matter which figure of authority it is, other than the shaman, you notice that some pistol whipping (Gunny doesn't shoot anyone again), "mild" cutting, or getting hit with a stick over the head happens from time to time, at least once every few days.

Alternatively, he plays a drum. Sometimes when he does, the shaman comes on deck and sings with his accompaniment.
1130. [08:57] <theMarg0r> [15:56] No matter which figure of authority it is, other than the shaman, you notice that some pistol whipping (Gunny doesn't shoot anyone again), "mild" cutting, or getting hit with a stick over the head happens from time to time, at least once every few days.
1131. 06[08:59] * Jenifer_Teague has been sticking to the most sunlight covered parts of the ship when possible and bothering the captain when she can't. The captain spends a fair amount of time gitterdusted.
1132. [09:01] <Ana> Ana spends a lot of time keeping the bright parts of the deck dimmed, and talking in Shadowspeak to Gunny, Stick and Cleaver.
1133. 06[09:02] * Kat jealously guards good spots in the sun to take a nap.
  1134. 03[09:06] * Emo_Duck ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
  1135. 03[09:07] * Emo_Duck is now known as Toadfoot_Feldepost
1136. 06[09:08] * Jenifer_Teague spends a lot of her time working with a toolkit and quite a lot of metal and wood. Mithril and Darkwood. She's got taste in material, at least.
1137. [09:19] <theMarg0r> The second time she uses glitterdust, Risky Boots starts throwing things at Jen. Jen shoots all the things out of the air. The THIRD time, the captain jumps at her and powerbombs her head first into the deck. She then has to fix the hole. It goes slowly, as she is no shipwright. Giving her not so much time to finish the project she was working on.
1138. 06[09:21] * Toadfoot_Feldepost hovers around Ana for the beginning of the journey, but not being versed in Shadowspeak and somewhat reluctant to ask for interpreting from these cutthroats, he meanders about, looking for a fishing rod. As the deck finds itself with a new fissure, he meekly plods up in a bid to earn some good will with the captain.
1139. [09:21] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "E-excuse me, captain. I believe I could help with that. I used to be a ship's surgeon cum carpenter, you know. *brrrk* "
1140. [09:26] <theMarg0r> "You get back in the kitchen, toady. Cleaver's got enough cooking and surgeon-ing work you can help with, that'll keep you busy." she's still red in the face from the humiliation, the anger, AND the exertion. Mostly the humiliation though. Against her light grey skin, the reddish tint makes her face look like it's on fire. It's a marvelous contrast, really. And there might still be some...
1141. [09:26] <theMarg0r> ...glitter she didn't manage to shake off left.
1142. 06[09:27] * Ana tries to help... Speaking softly to the captain and crew, in normal and shadowspeak, trying to calm the feud at least a little bit...
1143. [09:30] <theMarg0r> Stick thinks it's funny. Then again, he thinks EVERYTHING is funny. Cleaver is chill. Then again, he's like a jolly old... ebony-skinned bloated child with a big nose. Uh, point is, he doesn't care about much of anything. Gunny facepalms massively and goes discipline someone else. Risky Boots promises no further escalation of conflict, as long as it doesn't happen again, but Jen STILL has to...
  1144. [09:30] <theMarg0r> ...fix the hole.
1145. 06[09:31] * Toadfoot_Feldepost bows and retreats hastily. He keeps his eyes downcast among the wayang, dutifully stirring the bouillabaisse.
  1146. 06[09:46] * Kat keeps napping.
1147. [09:55] <theMarg0r> As you approach Rabbit Island, Risky Boots brings out the Albion flag - the lion and the unicorn - and says "None of you mind if I hang this up, just as we go into port, right? After all, we ARE on official business. Or at least you are. Go on, tell them how Besmara's Bounty got tragically stuck after her tangle with a zombie kraken. That was the deal. And while you're on shore, feel free to...
1148. [09:55] <theMarg0r> ...buy any supplies you need. I'll wait."
1149. 06[09:57] * Toadfoot_Feldepost eagerly patters ashore, more to get away from the intrinsically violent shadow people than any particular love of terra firma.
1150. 03[09:57] * Deedles is now known as Jaeger
1151. 06[09:58] * Jaeger was happy to have his feet on solid ground again, but didn't venture too far away from the port.
1152. 06[09:59] * Kat hops ashore, ready to wander around a bit.
1153. 06[09:59] * Ana almost seems reluctant to venture off the ship... For the first time in a while, she latches the cloak around her neck, adopting a human guise.
1154. [10:01] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Last chance to change your mind..." Feldepost mumbles to Ana. "Do you think we'll find a tobacconist's here?"
1155. [10:02] <Ana> "It's just a port, boss... I'm sure you will. But I need to find some botanical supplies..."
1156. 06[10:05] * Toadfoot_Feldepost lets out an unhappy gurgle. "Had I known you were a poisoner as well as an herbalist, I might have thought twice about hiring you when I did." - He adjusts his hat to make sure it doesn't slide off. "Though I think your shelf-reaching abilities would quite have outweighed that."
1157. [10:06] <Ana> "...It's part of the old lessons, boss. You need to know how to kill to know how to cure... I never thought I'd be putting this side into practice."
1158. [10:10] <theMarg0r> There are several places Ana could go to to get what she needs. The difference mostly being whether it's ran by a native, an Albion colonist, or a visiting merchant from another nation.
1159. [10:10] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Yes, well, as long as you don't try to squeeze me for any such vile brew, I suppose I can bear it." - He glances down at his hand, turning it over and flexing his fingers. "Don't lick me, by the way. Can't remember if I warned you previously, but I seem to have grown indigestible."
1160. [10:11] <Ana> "I wasn't in the habit of licking you anyway, boss." Ana chuckles, heading to the native first- She trusts local herblore, it's how she was trained.
1161. [10:14] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Mm," Feldepost nods affirmatively. "I should have brought my pipe, you know. Cherry wood, very fine carving by my cousin Jumby."
1162. [10:15] <Ana> "I remember, boss. But it's your favourite- That's why you left it at home. You were always so careful with it."
1163. [10:18] <theMarg0r> You come by a place ran by a squat, extremely wide bow-legged crab-man with long, thick eyestalks. He seems to be wearing continental-style necklaces around each of his eyestalks. Probably because he has no neck. "He, he, what can I get you mon."
1164. 06[10:20] * Toadfoot_Feldepost sighs wistfully. "And now I can't enjoy it. I suppose there is a lesson in there somewhere." - He approaches the crabby proprietor. "Dried tobacco, my good man. A good pipe too, if you have one."
1165. [10:25] <Ana> Ana smirks a little bit, letting Feldepost deal with his creature comforts first.
1166. [10:30] <theMarg0r> "Pipe'n weed, yes, good for de nerves, good for de body." he scuttles sideways, then brings you a long, straight pipe with a multi-colored stem, its head embedded inside a bright rainbow colored shell, with a hole drilled in it so the two parts could be attached together. "Rainbow shell pipe, sit on sand, smoke in sun, dis pipe shine many color! Taste de rainbow, smoke de rainbow! He, he,...
1167. [10:30] <theMarg0r> ...he." he keeps making "he" noises as he leaves the pipe in front of you and goes to fetch something to put in it, separately. "Good local pipeweed, grown by de family. Stick dis in your pipe an smoke it, mon." there is no sign of malice or even sarcastic awareness of what he just said possibly being an insult. Such things happen with people who have a questionable grasp of the common language.
1168. 06[10:33] * Toadfoot_Feldepost squints at the local pipeweed, more used to the distinctly brown variety from back home. The big, gaudy pipe wouldn't be his first choice either, but still, one takes what one can get. "Hm. Quite exotic, I must say. I'll be going on a voyage, so I'll require quite a pouchful, mind you. How much?"
1169. [10:39] <theMarg0r> He weighs the bag of tobacco in his claw-hand. "One gold - two pound." he then holds up the pipe against the light and lets the head cast its many reflections. "Pipe, good pipe, he he, made by family, much shiny. Thirty gold."
1170. 06[10:41] * Toadfoot_Feldepost nods at the price of the tobacco, but he clutches his chest and staggers back upon hearing the price for the pipe. "Thirty?! Good sir, I'm merely looking for a smoking apparatus, not some sort of antique heirloom!"
1171. [10:44] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "I'm only a humble traveller, my good man. I couldn't possibly part with more than fifteen!"
1172. [10:45] <Ana> Ana tries to hide her smile. Feldepost never parted with more money than he had to...
1173. [10:45] <theMarg0r> "He he, okay mon. You buy pipe and weed, twenty gold both. Pipe twenty. Weed free. Good deal. He he."
1174. 06[10:48] * Toadfoot_Feldepost makes a show of weighing up the offer, bobbing from side to side. "Hmmm. Nnnh. Alright, but only because my companion and I are pressed for time, and you seem a trustworthy sort. Twenty it is." - He rummages in his belt pouch for the coins, tipping them onto the counter.

1177. [10:52] <theMarg0r> He scoops up the money in his large upper claw while pushing the pipe and the bag of tobacco towards you at the same time. The advantage of having two pairs of forelimbs.
1178. [10:52] <theMarg0r> "You, den." he turns towards Ana. "Need something, or just here with green mon?"
1179. [10:52] <Ana> "Hello." Ana greets him with a smile. "I'm looking for... It's probably a kind of moss or fungus, but I'm not sure what the local name would be..." She describes what she knows about the moss she needs, the traits it had where she came from, the mind numbing effect a mild dose had. "I know you might not have the exact same species, but I read that things like it are quite common..."
1180. [10:55] <theMarg0r> "I have, grow on underwater rock. Sometimes smoke too. Not for green mon. He ask weed for de pipe, he get weed. You want how much?"
1181. [11:02] <Ana> "One and a half pounds or so?" She gives him a smile.
1182. [11:06] <theMarg0r> "He, he. Okay. Pretty strong, sure you can handle? Three hundred gold."
1183. [11:08] <Ana> "Three hundred? Thank you so much." She gives him a beam. "And don't worry... I'm a herbalist, I know how to handle things like that." She fishes for a satchel, counting out the coins- She still has some left that she'll return to the people who helped her with it, later.
1184. [11:13] <theMarg0r> As he wasn't sure he would make the sale, he scuttles to get your moss as you're counting the coins. He's back by the time you're done, though. "He he, thanks. Have a good time."
1185. [11:14] <Ana> "Oh, it's not for me... But don't worry. I'm sure it will be appreciated." She smiles sweetly at him, weighing up the package just to check before slipping it into a satchel.
1186. [11:15] <theMarg0r> Everything is in order. This guy weighing things in his upper claw is as reliable as the most finely calibrated scales. He's clearly been doing this for a while.
  1187. [11:17] <Ana> "If I need anything else, I'll be sure to come back!£"
1188. [11:21] <theMarg0r> He waves to you with his smaller upper claw as he's still holding the money in his other one.

1208. [08:51] <theMarg0r> The poison bought, it's now the time to purchase the bait. Sure enough, pigs, goats, and other forms of livestock are all on display in the market. All sorts of folks are extolling the virtues of their wares, most of them of good local New Albionese breed. Notably Sammy's relatives. A bunch of muscular half-elf farmhands, some Sammy's siblings, some some other sort of relatives, and an old...
1209. [08:51] <theMarg0r> ...lady with an AMAZING set of pipes, managing to shout over most other vendors, despite her advanced age (racial longevity taken into consideration). "CORN, COWS, PIGS 'N SUGAR! GET YER MEAT 'N CROPS RIGHT HERE, AT THE OLDEST, MOST TRADITIONAL FAMILY FARM IN TH' COLONIES! AH SHOULD KNOW, I WAS THERE AT THE FOUNDIN'!"
  1210. 06[08:53] * Jenifer_Teague rubs her temples. "It's...quaint."
1211. [08:54] <Ana> Ana looks conflicted... Her cloak is pulled tightly around her. "...It's like the market towns back home. Visiting them was always fun..."
1212. 06[08:55] * Samanhe studiously avoids the loudest hawker. "Guys. Ignore Aunt Mabel. She's got a thing fer...fancyin' up the truth sometimes."
1213. [08:56] <Ana> "...She's your aunt?" Ana looks between them. "Wouldn't you get a family discount?"
1214. [08:57] <Samanhe> "Aunt Mabel'd prob'ly try ta tell us it was a discount, yeah," she nods, "but it'd just be what she charges anyone else norm'ly."
  1215. [08:57] <Samanhe> "She's been sellin' like this fer a hunnerd years."
1216. 06[08:57] * Toadfoot_Feldepost ambles alongside Ana, browsing the comestibles on offer. Upon hearing Samanhe's warning, he looks back and forth between the two a few times. He shuffles a step closer, opening his mouth to say something, but Ana preempts him. He turns it into a smile instead. "That's my girl."
1217. 06[08:59] * Jenifer_Teague turns a small metal box over in her hands a few times. It's rectangular and open on one end. Ana and Sam likely saw her working on it during the times she wasn't patching the deck.
1218. [09:00] <Ana> Ana glances at Feldepost with a small smile. "Well, what's most important is that the pigs won't die before we get there... We need the meat to be decently fresh."
1219. [09:02] <Samanhe> "Anyway, if ya really want ta find someone who ain't gonna charge ya an arm an' a leg, ya wanna try t'find my cousin Bruluthean. Likes t'call himself Brutus, though, since he likes the human things more'n the elf things in our family."
1220. 06[09:03] * Kat states flippantly. "There is a lot to like."
1221. [09:03] <Samanhe> "On both sides," she appends.
1222. [09:05] <Ana> "How do you mean?" Ana quirks her head at Sammy
1223. 06[09:05] * Jenifer_Teague looks over to Kat. "Sis? I do NOT need to know your preferences."
1224. 06[09:06] * Samanhe chuckles. "Whaddya mean, how d'I mean?"
1225. 01[09:07] <Kat> "Oh yes, the shocking declaration that I like humans."
1226. [09:08] <Samanhe> "I think it's more shockin' that yer admittin' ta likin' *anyone*."
  1227. 01[09:09] <Kat> "Fair enough."
  1228. [09:09] <Jenifer_Teague> "I didn't think she's capable of, I'll admit."
  1229. [09:09] <Ana> Ana giggles at that.
1230. [09:10] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Ahurm." - Feldepost clears his throat loudly before the conversation turns too inappropriate for Ana's innocent ears. "So where might we find this 'cousin Brutus' of yours?"
1231. [09:11] <Samanhe> "Anyway, Ana, if'n ya mean 'Whaddya mean by likin' the human things more,' I mean like he tries ta model himself off'a human culture stuff entirely."
1232. [09:11] <Ana> She nods slowly. "...I guess I never really thought about stuff like that, back home."
1233. [09:12] <Samanhe> "Like, I like my name. Samanhe, it's nice, rolls offa the tongue. But I ain't mind it if people call me Sammy or Sam. Bruluthean, though? He'll get uppity if ya call 'im that."
  1234. 06[09:12] * Samanhe looks at Jen.
1235. [09:13] <Samanhe> "And by 'that' I mean his real name."
1236. [09:13] <Jenifer_Teague> "Maybe Sis should give that a go. You know, wanting anything to do with culture." She nods to Samanhe though. "Got it~"
1237. [09:13] <Ana> "...My mother named me after an elven princess in an old book we had. Anastasia..." She smiles a little at the memory.
1238. 01[09:14] <Kat> "Call him Bruluthean at every opportunity, got it."
1239. [09:14] <Samanhe> "Anyway, Brutus certainly lives up ta his name. Six anna half feet tall and prob'ly about that across his shoulders. I think he weighs like two o' me."
1240. [09:15] <Samanhe> "Still got the blonde hair, though. Can't really miss 'im."
1241. 01[09:17] <Kat> "Well, let's go find Bruluthean then." She makes a face. "Can't really say I blame him for wanting a different name, that is not easy to pronounce."
1242. [09:18] <Ana> "Same reason I shortened mine to 'Ana'." She nods.
1243. [09:18] <theMarg0r> Finding cousin Brutus shouldn't be too hard. There's clearly a human part of the market, an elven part of the market, and a halfling part of the market, with in-betweens as the races mix. With foreign and colony native merchants having their own portion aside from all of those, like that weird Karkanak apothecary. Just look for someone big with pointier ears in the human part of the market.
1244. [09:19] <theMarg0r> There is no animosity or tension as the reason for this division. The Albionese just like things nice and orderly.
1245. [09:20] <Samanhe> Using her own height advantage, she goes up on tiptoe, balanced on the edge of her Jen-provided boots as she peers over the market crowd. After a second she comes back down. "Nothin' hard 'bout Samanhe. But I found Cousin Brutus. Back side o' the big square space that Aunt Mabel's hawkin' from, next ta where the human stuff butts up against our stuff."
1246. [09:23] <Jenifer_Teague> "Right." She tosses the magazine up...and it vanishes into a pocket or maybe sleeve as it comes down.
  1247. 06[09:24] * Samanhe leads the way.
1248. [09:31] <theMarg0r> Cousin Brutus and his stuff are rather less loud and extravagant, much like his hair, which is rather un-elvenly short and undecorated. He gives Sammy a nod of recognition, then starts closely examining her companions, especially Ana and Feldepost. He doesn't move, but he rather unceremoniously follows them with his eyes, with no hints of what he might be thinking on his face.
  1249. 06[09:32] * Jenifer_Teague gives a jaunty wave. "Hello Bruce."
  1250. [09:34] <theMarg0r> "Brutus. Hello, lady Teague."
  1251. 01[09:34] <Kat> "Hello, Bruluthean."
1252. 06[09:35] * Samanhe waves lazily. "Hey cousin. How's the sellin' goin'?"
1253. 06[09:36] * Toadfoot_Feldepost tips his hat and tries not to make eye contact.
1254. [09:39] <theMarg0r> He ignores Kat and instead gives Sammy a slight smile. "Oh, y'know, while ol' Mabel does her best to sell to random passers-by, I'm tryin' to keep an eye out for bigger fish to catch." he points with his chin in Jen's direction. "Like when we started supplyin' the Teague family with goats so officers can have fresh milk in their tea."
1255. 06[09:40] * Jenifer_Teague throws a small rock at Kat, then nods at Brutus.
  1256. 06[09:40] * Kat elbows Jen.
1257. [09:42] <Samanhe> "Wait, really? I guess that means it ain't much of a coincidence I ended up on Jen's little dinghy."
1258. [09:42] <theMarg0r> "Hmmmm." he smirks, this time genuinely amused. "Nope."
1259. 06[09:44] * Samanhe thinks that over a second. A very long, very deliberate second. Then nods. "Coulda been worse. Like endin' up with that Hissy Boots."
1260. [09:46] <theMarg0r> "Anyway, since y'all ended up back here, mind tellin' me how can I help ya?" he grows serious again. "So maybe I can tell you how y'might help th' family. You ARE hangin' out with some strange folks, Sammy, but yeah. Could always be worse.""
1261. 06[09:46] * Jenifer_Teague grumps, hard and starts muttering. The phrases 'keelhaul' and 'Shove a mainmast up...' can vaguely be heard.
1262. [09:46] <theMarg0r> "Like oh, youngins' hangin' out with a witch, fer instance."
1263. [09:46] <Samanhe> "Ain't get much stranger than people I'm related ta," she quips, grinning. "Although they're tryin'--wait what?"
1264. [09:47] <Ana> Ana casts her eyes down at that, too often she'd been accused...
1265. [09:48] <Jenifer_Teague> "What's wrong with witches?" Jen shrugs "Some of them have a killer fashion sense. Some. I mean, really...you have supernatural power and you DON'T use it for makeovers?"
1266. 01[09:49] <Kat> "Yeah yeah, we get it sis, you want to bang a witch."
  1267. 06[09:49] * Jenifer_Teague looks over at Kat. "...how did you...what?"
1268. 06[09:50] * Kat smirks. "It's okay, your secret is mostly safe with us."
1269. [09:50] <theMarg0r> "Y'know, the witch? Livin' in th' woods? Ain't been botherin' folks much, so we jes' left her alone, until she ran into th' one orphan girl. You know, the one who's been hangin' round some 'o yer younger sisters? Now there's a bunch 'o kids goin' into the forest, nobody can stop 'em, and gods know what's happenin' in there."
1270. 06[09:51] * Ana breathes a muted sigh of relief, looking up again. "...Has nobody gone to find them?"
1271. [09:51] <Jenifer_Teague> "...I don't even...how does that follow? I compliment a LOT of people on fashion..." Jen seems mostly focused on Kat.
1272. 06[09:52] * Toadfoot_Feldepost glances back and forth as the familial problems are aired. He raises a finger. "We're, ah, looking to acquire several pigs, sir. Of medium girth, for a sea voyage - not too large such that they will gobble all the grain in a day, but with a good paunch on them.
  1273. [09:52] <Samanhe> "Nobody *can* stop 'em or ain't nobody's tried?"
1274. [09:54] <theMarg0r> "That's th' darn thing, nobody can find th' witches' house she doesn't want to. Darn Rabbit ain't no help either. We thought of hirin' a proper wizard, with a degree an' all, but that's mighty expensive." pause "You folks look like the adventurin' type. Maybe you could find a way?"
1275. [09:55] <theMarg0r> "You'd get as many pigs as y'd want, I can promise that much."
1276. [09:56] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Well, uh..." - Feldepost fidgets with his collar. "How much would a pig cost otherwise?"
1277. [09:56] <Jenifer_Teague> "So, what sorta witch is this?"
  1278. 06[09:56] * Toadfoot_Feldepost groans.
1279. 01[09:57] <Kat> "My master said that witches are tricky, but have some glaring weaknesses. I'm interested to test myself against this witch."
1280. [09:57] <Samanhe> "Guess we could try, though ain't none of us really much of a wizard neither. Leastaways, I don't think." She glances at Feldepost.
1281. [09:58] <theMarg0r> "Witch." he shrugs. "Lives inna house in the forest nobody remembers buildin', nails lil' straw dolls to th' trees."
1282. [09:58] <theMarg0r> "Th' kids say there's a house, at least. Could be a hole in the ground for all we know."
1283. [09:59] <Jenifer_Teague> "It's ok. I'm divinely blessed. I have sight beyond sight, holy purpose and can eat as much cake as a want without getting fat. We'll find it."
  1284. [09:59] <Ana> "...Lucky..." Ana mumbles.
1285. 06[10:01] * Samanhe looks ready to respond...then holds her tongue.
1286. 06[10:03] * Toadfoot_Feldepost wrings his hands. He looks like he's about to protest to Ana against this detour, but then decides not to. He nods to himself. "Well, um, if no one can find the house without this witch wanting them to, how do we, ah, proceed?"
  1287. [10:04] <Samanhe> "Follow someone?"
1288. [10:05] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Who? A child?" - He casts about, looking for humanoids of small stature.
1289. [10:05] <Ana> "...There are ways of seeing, and sensing, things which aren't always visible..." Ana murmurs, looking down at her rippling shadow.
1290. [10:06] <Samanhe> "If there's any o' my little sisters left, one o' them would do it."
1291. 06[10:08] * Toadfoot_Feldepost rubs his head underneath his hat. "It would be rather unseemly to place another child in danger to find the missing ones..." - He looks up questingly at Ana.
1292. [10:08] <Ana> She nods in agreement. "But if they are going into the forest of their own free will... Well, nothing untoward might be going on... It's possible..."
1293. 01[10:09] <Kat> "Our other option is dressing Toadfoot here like a child and sending him off into the forest."
1294. 01[10:09] <Kat> "Maybe the witch will find him."
  1295. 06[10:09] * Toadfoot_Feldepost blinks. "Eh?"
1296. [10:09] <theMarg0r> "Th' kids don't seem to mind, then again, it's a witch. Who knows what kinda magic she might be usin' to mess with their little heads."
1297. [10:10] <Jenifer_Teague> "Or put him in the pot...actually, she'd probably do that regardless of if she thinks he's a kid or not." She nods "I'm sure we could rescue him before he's cooked."
1298. [10:11] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "... Keeping an eye on the local juveniles doesn't sound like such a bad idea, now that I think about it."
1299. [10:15] <theMarg0r> "Or, if you're feelin' up to it, y'all could try to shake somethin' helpful outta th' rabbit." pause "Or bribe it if y'feel you're rich enough. I think th' witch gave it some magic stuff to get it on her side."
  1300. [10:16] <Ana> "...The rabbit?"
1301. [10:18] <theMarg0r> "One 'o them fey things came here with th' first colonists. Looks like an upright rabbit with a face like a person. Island's named after it these days. Helps folks who get lost in the forest. Usually. But I think it ain't lettin' us find the witch either."
1302. 01[10:28] <Kat> "I've heard of things like that creature."
1303. [10:32] <Jenifer_Teague> "Pooka. A refuge from a realm without taste." She grins.
  1304. [10:33] <Samanhe> "Oh, yeah, that varmint."
  1305. [10:42] <Samanhe> "We'll give tryin' ta find the recluse's house a go. If'n that don't work we'll find the rabbit 'n try ta...'reason' with 'im."
1306. 06[10:46] * Toadfoot_Feldepost fidgets. "Right, well, ah..." - He gestures at Jen and Ana. "Then we'll leave the task in your capable hands!"
1307. [10:54] <theMarg0r> The forest takes up a little less than a third of the island. Then again, it's one of the larger islands in the region. Continental trees brought in over a century ago thrive and give the colonial island a spark of the mystical aura of the old country. That is, Albion. If you didn't get my meaning.
1308. [10:58] <Samanhe> "I been inside here a time or two in the past," she tells the others, "but not really very far inside. Mostly I like climbin' the trees at the edges. They're taller'n most o' the others."
1309. [10:59] <Ana> "...Almost like back home, eh boss?" Ana smiles, looking through the trees. "...Although I can see more clearly. The forest always seemed so dark before."
1310. 06[11:00] * Toadfoot_Feldepost clutches his crossbow as the party moves between the trunks of trees with no beaten path to guide them. "Almost. Except back home there weren't any wicked witches we had to worry about..."
1311. [11:01] <Jenifer_Teague> "It could be a good witch. You remember the one from the stories Mum used to tell us Sis? With the candy house?"
1312. [11:01] <Ana> She laughs. "You always worried there would be. When I went herb gathering you were always nervous."
1313. 01[11:01] <Kat> "Didn't that one eat the children who came to eat her house?"
1314. [11:02] <Jenifer_Teague> "After she fattened them up, yeah. But hey, candy house. She had something going for her...anyway, as older Sis I promise I'll shove her in the oven when she catches you."
1315. 06[11:02] * Toadfoot_Feldepost harrumphs. "An untamed forest contains more than witches. Cousin Feppo once got attacked by a skunk, you know. Took weeks before he got the smell out completely."
1316. 06[11:02] * Toadfoot_Feldepost squints down the length of his crossbow, scanning for errant skunks.
1317. 01[11:02] <Kat> "She can TRY to stop me."
1318. [11:03] <Samanhe> "Tomatos," she says. "That'll help out with skunks. Course, there ain't any on the island."
1319. [11:03] <Jenifer_Teague> "You've got to admit, being given a stupid amount of candy has some appeal. Better than the witch with the apples story."
1320. 06[11:04] * Toadfoot_Feldepost stops suddenly, looking directly upwards. He reaches out to grab Ana. "Hush!" he hisses. "Look up there..."
1321. 06[11:05] * Samanhe looks up where the frogman points.
  1322. [11:05] <Ana> Ana glances up
1323. [11:06] <theMarg0r> It's hard to see through the branches and the needles and pines (for it is a coniferous forest), but sure enough, there is something that seems to have a torso, a head, two legs, and two arms up there.
1324. [11:07] <Ana> "...Should we say hello?" Ana whispers.
  1325. 06[11:08] * Jenifer_Teague waves
1326. [11:08] <Samanhe> She stares at the shape, then at the tree...then shrugs and starts to climb it.
1327. 06[11:09] * Toadfoot_Feldepost shrugs, tapping his fingers on the grip of his weapon...
1328. [11:09] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> "Hello?" he calls out. "I say, have you seen witches about?"
  1329. [11:09] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> *+any
1330. [11:10] <theMarg0r> Suddenly, the humanoid figure falls out of the tree and "hangs out" roughly at eye level. Turns out it's a little straw dummy hanging by its neck by a rope that's been painted red.
  1331. [11:11] <Samanhe> "...That's cheery," she quips, halfway up.
1332. 06[11:16] * Toadfoot_Feldepost yelps and barely catches his crossbow after he inadvertently tosses it into the air with fright. "Heavens, how horrid!"
1333. [11:17] <theMarg0r> Turns out Samanhe ends up being way more affected than she lets on at first. She twitches, loses her grip, and lands flat on her ass. At least she didn't go head first.
1334. 06[11:17] * Samanhe misplaces a hand and tumbles out of the tree, the spell imbuing a bit of a jitter as she clambers back to her feet slowly.
  1335. [11:17] <Ana> Ana jumps back. "...Well, that's- Sammy!"
1336. 06[11:17] * Jenifer_Teague dashes over towards Sam, holding out a hand to help her up. "You ok there Sam?" Her smile has vanished.
1337. [11:18] <Samanhe> "I'm okay, I'm okay." She gets up with the assistance and brushes herself off, suppressing a little shiver.
1338. 06[11:18] * Jenifer_Teague draws a pistol and blasts away at the ugly little doll.
1339. [11:20] <theMarg0r> It is blown apart in a cloud of string and straw. Small animals and birds flee from the area following the loud noise of the gunshot, leaving the spot you're standing in even MORE cheerful and eerily quiet.
1340. 06[11:20] * Jenifer_Teague glowers at where it was. "...nasty little bugger."
1341. 06[11:20] * Samanhe flinches away from the noise...then relaxes slightly.
1342. [11:21] <Ana> "...Are you sure that was smart, Jen?"
1343. [11:21] <Jenifer_Teague> "Shooting an asshole little doll? Yeah, I'm pretty sure it needed to happen." She's not smiling any more. "I'm starting to think this witch isn't the good sort."
  1344. [11:22] <Toadfoot_Feldepost> *eep*
1345. [11:22] <Samanhe> "Hey now. For all we know, that varmint left it here, not the witch."
1346. [11:22] <Jenifer_Teague> "Either way...a kid could be climbing that tree. They are a lot less tough than you Sam."
1347. [11:23] <Samanhe> "Not really. Least, not if they're my family."
  1348. [11:23] <Samanhe> "But I get what yer sayin'. Let's keep movin'."
1349. 06[11:29] * Toadfoot_Feldepost does that. He pulls a strange bar out of his satchel - it looks like iron, but it bends and twists even under Toadfoot's noodly grasp. He kneeds it into the shape of a compass in an effort to get a better idea of their location.
1350. 06[11:30] * Toadfoot_Feldepost ends up spinning around himself a few times as they go on, every so often emitting a concerned "um" or "er".
1351. 06[11:32] * Samanhe steps up to Feldepost. "May I?"
1352. 06[11:33] * Toadfoot_Feldepost holds out the improvised compass. "By all means, you're the adventurer here."
1353. [11:35] <theMarg0r> Eventually, Feldepost trips over a root. In the middle of picking himself up, he raises his head and comes face to face with a strange creature - body the size and shape of the largest rabbit you could think of, white fur, but with opposable thumbs. Rabbit ears, but human face, with a split rabbit (literally!) lip. No fur on the head, just shaggy brown neck-length hair. Two lumps in the...
  1354. [11:35] <theMarg0r> ...chest area suggest a female.
  1355. [11:35] <theMarg0r> "Nyeeeeh, lost, doc?"
1356. [11:35] <theMarg0r> The creature chews on the tip of a large carrot.
1357. 06[11:37] * Toadfoot_Feldepost simply stares in bemusement for a few seconds, blinking his froggy eyes at the creature. "Ah. You must be the, eh, rabbit. Actually I was looking for you. Somewhat."
1358. [11:38] <Ana> ...Ana slowly raises a hand, nonplussed. "...Hi..."
1359. 06[11:39] * Kat just stares at the creature.
1360. [11:40] <theMarg0r> "Oh, really? I see everyone passing through my forest sooner or later, doc, but not many people look for me, specifically." she gnaws on the carrot again. Despite the fact that she's CLEARLY biting off pieces of it, it doesn't seem to grow shorter. "They're usually looking for a way out."
  1361. [11:40] <Samanhe> "That'd be the varmint, alright."
1362. [11:40] <theMarg0r> "But... now that you're here, how can I help you help me?"
1363. 06[11:44] * Toadfoot_Feldepost gets his feet, dusting himself off. "Ahem, well, it's a bit of a long story, but the short of it is that my colleagues and I..." - He gestures to the rest of the group. "... are looking for a so-called 'witch' in this forest who has ostensibly been luring the village youngsters away into gods know what sort of improprietude. You, ah, wouldn't happen to know where we might her, would
  1364. 06[11:44] * Toadfoot_Feldepost you?"
1365. [11:44] <Samanhe> "What he means is, d'you know where the witch is?"
  1366. 06[11:45] * Toadfoot_Feldepost huffs. "That's what I said!"
1367. [11:45] <Samanhe> "With about thirty extra words, yep."
1368. [11:46] <theMarg0r> "I mmmmight, if you can make it worth my while." the creature hops off the stump and approaches Jen. "You look fancy. How much'd what you're wearing be worth? Any of it magic?"
1369. 06[11:46] * Toadfoot_Feldepost indignantly inflates his throat sac. *brrrk*
  1370. [11:46] <Jenifer_Teague> "Plenty and what's it to you?"
1371. [11:47] <Ana> Ana's hand goes to her broach, tugging at the cloak. "Please... We aren't looking to cause any mischief. If she's doing no harm, then we'll be able to reassure others it's safe, and they won't cause any more problems in your forest in future."
1372. [11:51] <theMarg0r> "Nice try, but a rabbit's gotta eat." she gnaws on her apparently never-ending carrot, contradicting her point immediately. "Carrots don't grow on trees." beat "They grow in the ground. Outside the forest. A couple kids ain't my problem. What are you gonna do, burn the ENTIRE forest down?"
1373. [11:51] <Samanhe> She rummages around in a pocket, then withdraws a small glass bead, a little warm to the touch. "I dunno. With this, we might give it a try."
  1374. 01[11:51] <Kat> "I considered it, but I think others would object."
1375. [11:52] <Jenifer_Teague> "...anyone ever told you that you are a bit of a psycho, Sis?"
  1376. 01[11:52] <Kat> "I prefer 'efficient'."
  1377. 03[11:59] * Samanhe ([email protected]) has left #ddpfic
1378. 06[12:01] * Toadfoot_Feldepost taps his webbed fingers on the side of his satchel in contemplation for a moment. "Well, how about this?" - He pulls out the rainbow shell pipe he bought from the crabby merchant near the dock. He caresses it as he describes how exotic and valuable it is, repeating the original seller's spiel. "Unused, and if you strike now, I'll throw in one... I'll throw in half a pound of overseas
  1379. 06[12:01] * Toadfoot_Feldepost pipeweed, absolutely free!"
1380. [12:06] <theMarg0r> She sniffs Feldepost's bag. "Overseas? This is local, doc." pause. "That IS a nice pipe, though. Gimmie it and you have my blessing." she reaches out for the pipe and adds with the corner of her mouth. "That's one down. What're the rest of you gonna give me, huh?"
1381. 06[12:08] * Toadfoot_Feldepost grimaces as though he's not entirely happy with this transaction, but neither is he going to back out of this deal with a bizarre fey-bunny in its domain either.
