  3. After the title screen, we cut to an image of FLOWER looking off at the screen with a somber look on her face. The CG fades into the gameplay proper, revealing that Flower is staring off the edge of a cliff where a single Sakura tree sticks out like a sore thumb in a hilly, mountainous area. The first text box appears unprovoked:
  4.
  5. TEXT BOX:
  6. It's around 3 PM, judging from the sun and shadows. No need for a clock, huh? Show off. But, 3 o' clock... You'd best make haste. Your allotted recess time is nearly over. You'll have to cut it short today, after all, if you expect to be fit for tomorrow. It won't be long now before even the simple pleasure of frolicking about this shrine will be but a memory.
  7. Oh, you think that's unfair, do you? Well, it's your fault for not outgrowing those feelings years ago, isn't it?
  8. Your 21st birthday is arriving soon, have you forgotten? Must be nice, to be so carefree about the passage of days. Perhaps you're being too hard on yourself. Tomorrow will be at your throat before you know it. You might as well enjoy your time here while you can.
  9. -----
  10.
  11. You gain control of Flower at this point. The only observable options are the Sakura tree and the edge of the cliff.
  12.
  13. ------
  14. TREE:
  15. The cherry blossoms in this area only bloom near Yoitona's shrine. No doubt a testament to his miracles.
  16.
  17. ------
  18. CLIFF:
  19. Watch yourself. Terrible things would happen if you were to step any further. This outfit is far too restrictive to be scaling mountains. That was your intention, right?
  20.
  21. ------
  22. You can also check Flower's inventory. Equipped to her body is the Momogami royal kimono and a curse suppressor attached to her head, as well as a key item called TRIBUTES.
  23.
  24. ----
  25. ROYAL KIMONO:
  26. A unique traditional garb fashioned for the Princess of Flowers. Somewhat restrictive and often stuffy, but comfortable enough. Gives its wearer the sensation of a loving embrace.
  27.
  28. ---
  29. CURSE SUPPRESSOR:
  30. (The Curse Suppressor looks like an Axon-style brown hearing aid)
  31. Partially restrains the curse that afflicts you. You need this to hear with clarity.
  32.
  33. ----
  34. TRIBUTES:
  35. Sanctified potpourri intended as an offering to the gods. Maybe this will put you on Yoitona's good side.
  36.
  37.
  38. ************************
  39. The next screen is a long stretch across the hillside with the intense walking action occasionally interspersed with the odd observation point here and there.
  40.
  41. ----
  42. INSECT:
  43. (Sprite is a blade of grass with a slight red dot on it)
  44. A bug's life is too brief and insignificant to accomplish anything on its own, but it must find great value in making the world just that little bit buggier. What kind of insect is it? How should you know? You're a Princess of Flowers, not a Mushihimesama.
  45.
  46. ----
  47. MOUNTAIN MAN:
  48. https://i.imgur.com/5LHNHxn.png
  49. (A hooded man standing over a cliff looks off into the distance, smoking a pipe.)
  50. "Up here to see Yoitona again, huh? The only visitors anymore are you and those Samurai.
  51. Come to think of it, I've never gotten your name. Oh, no need to rush. I'm sure I'll find out eventually."
  52. "This view is always breathtaking."
  53.
  54. ---------
  55. RABBIT:
  56. Nuknuknuk
  57. ---------
  58.
  59.
  60. *************************
  61. This busy screen contains the entrance to the Yoitona Shrine
  62.
  63. -------
  64. HOKORA:
  65. You offer your respect at the Hokora near Yoitona's shrine. Today, you've even brought an oblation. That's good. You ought to stay in the gods' favor. They're the only ones who will speak with you, after all. Despite that, you must have found some way to offend them. Now, Yoitona is the only one you feel comfortable with. You've done him enough favors for divine misfortune to be more than a little rude at this point.
  66.
  67. ---------
  68. PATCH OF FLOWERS:
  69. These look like the same flowers you tended to last week, only mightier and healthier. Flowers grow up so fast, don't they? Must be nice, you think, to have no real responsibilities beyond looking pretty. Oh, are you envious? I'm sorry, as if your life is any different?
  70. You named these top 3 flowers yourself. They're Windcutter, Rouge, and Birmingham. As the first three names to come to mind, they must be important.
  71.
  72. -------
  73. DISCARDED EFFIGY:
  74. This abandoned statue seems content to lie on the ground. Lots of space to do that. Do you want to join it down there?
  75. (Sure/Nah...)
  76. You decide to leave care to the Kobolds and lie spread-eagle on the knoll.
  77. The damp grass is sure to ruin your dress, but you're not bothered. The Grandmaster has more than enough funds for a new one, and your caretakers have long since grown apathetic to your mischief. All that concerns you now are the nostalgic rolling clouds miles above your head. You wish they'd slow down, if only so you could savor the moment a bit longer.
  78. Shoot, look at that. On second thought, don't. The sun's gotten in your eyes. How horrible. This is painful. Let's stop looking at the sky now. Couldn't you have figured that out on your own?
  79.
  80. ---------
  81. *************************
  82. Once Flower enters the shrine, the perspective shifts from primarily side scrolling to a proper top-down view. Most of the area is dark and drab, littered with menacing statues of who we can assume at this point is Yoitona. Most importantly, the entrance is a single path over an artificial body of water. The halls of the shrine are long and winding, there's signs of flooding to make the place a lot more damp than neee be, and various rooms are too decrepit to move around in much. To make matters worse, there are occasional sounds that indicate Flower isn't here alone. During these moments, Flower's emotions begin to get the better of her.
  83. "You should just go home."
  84. "This is a suitable punishment, isn't it?"
  85. "The gods don't want you here. Who would?"
  86. "Go away."
  87. "There's no saving you."
  88. "You were born from the curse, and you'll die to the curse."
  89. Along with various other discouraging phrases as she proceeds through the shrine.
  90.
  91. Eventually, she'll reach a single, imposing statue kept alight by windows to the outside world. The intrusive thoughts finally cease. She's now free to examine the statue and place the offering to Yoitona.
  92.
  93. ----
  94. Will you offer the Tribute to Yoitona?
  95. (Yes/No)
  96. You give Yoitona your offering and a silent prayer. Maybe now the gods will be on your side. Maybe your curse will finally be lifted.
  97.
  98. ----
  99. Once Flower turns back and walks a couple steps, the statue of Yoitona is shattered in a split second as a huge figure drops in from the ceiling, in a slightly jumpscary moment. This figure, an oversized, imposing demon, lifts itself up. For now, this demon will be known as TURTLE.

  101.
  102. -----
  103. ???:
  104. Your god won't save you.
  105. (The surprise of this situation makes Flower trip over in fear, as the shadow of the demon looms over her)
  106. (The demon takes a step forward before addressing Flower any further)
  107.
  108. ???:
  109. The Momogami family. You belong to them, don't you?
  110. (Flower backpedals, pulling herself away from the demon with her hands)
  111.
  112. ???:
  113. Scared speechless? Or are you hiding something? It's pointless, your scent alone is enough to confirm it.
  114. Do you know how much pain your kind has caused? How many lives you've ruined?
  115. This curse you placed upon me...it's time for your reckoning.
  116.
  117. (The word "curse" triggers something within Flower. In tears, she tries to yell out something, but to no avail; all that comes out are coarse, guttural grunts.)
  118.
  119. ???:
  120. ....
  121. Here I took humans as the type to run their mouths as soon as they thought it'd save their skin. I appreciate your restraint. But it won't be enough to save you.
  122. If I can't attack you Momogami scoundrels head-on, I'll pick you off one by one. And I'll start here, with you!
  123.
  124. ---
  125. Now you're in trouble. The demon closes in slowly but surely. You scramble to your feet, cursing your damnable kimono. As you backtrack through the shrine, Turtle will chase you down in various ways. Beyond just walking towards you, he'll use brief bursts of unimaginable speed, and even teleport through the darkness. Not a very fun time all around. Obviously, making contact with turtle at any point results in the screen turning blood red followed by an instant game over. You wanna avoid that. Thankfully, it shouldn't take long for you to reach the water-logged entrance. Even though Turtle has easily caught up with you to this point, this room causes him pause. He nervously chases you over the narrow path, trying desperately not to fall into the water, and Flower can't help but find this behavior suspicious. As a matter of fact, the turtle seemed to have actively avoided all sources of water within the shrine, to varying degrees of confidence.
  126. Once Flower runs out of the shrine, she finds that the cup she used to hold her tributes fell into her kimono once parts of the statue went flying everywhere. Noticing a spring nearby, used to supply the shrine with its water source, she fills the cup with water just in case.
  127.
  128. As it turns out, that case came sooner than expected as Turtle sneaks up and shouts,
  129. "GOTCHA!"
  130. https://i.imgur.com/Lup1Qlj.png
  131. Flower tries to run, but Turtle grabs her by the arm, which results in her accidentally tossing the cup into the air.
  132.
  133. Turtle readies his free claw, and begins to ask,
  134. "Are you prepared to face hell? Worry not, you'll see the rest of your habitat-destroying kin in due time. I'll make it quick, at least. I'll give you that merc--"
  135.
  136. https://i.imgur.com/r5uYsid.png
  137.
  138. During this monologue, the cup slowly falls back into frame until it finally lands-right on Turtle's head. It takes a while to process, but once it does, Turtle lets out a bloodcurdling scream and begins writhing in pain, reacting as if the water is burning his flesh clean off.
  139.
  140. Seemingly defeated, Flower almost can't believe that such a foe was bested by something near ubiquitous as water, especially confounding considering he looks like a turtle in broad daylight. From this point, you're given the option to either run away or continue experimenting.
  141.
  142. If you continue to partake in the demon's pain, Flower will pour another cup on him, causing him to scream ever louder and beg for mercy. Flower will continue doing this for as long as you choose not to run back home, cycling through about 5 different images before repeating.
  143. With the Turtle demon done with, Flower rushes back home, barely escaping with her life. She can't help but wonder what the Turtle's deal was, and why he wanted her dead so badly.
  144.
  145.
  146. ***********************************************
  147. The screen turns black as a single text box appears.
  148. "Well, well... Enjoy yourself out there? Oh, you must have had a blast, being so liberal with the time afforded you. In the future, how about we try returning on schedule, hmm? You're thirty minutes late."
  149. The scene shifts to an interior location, layered with tatami mats and sliding doors.
