- A heavy arm flashed past the Dalek's eye. Another caught the edge of its base and sent it tumbling. Out of control, the Dalek fell to the ground. It skidded across the jungle clearing, and came to rest on its side at the edge of the wide hole left by the drill. For a moment it teetered on the brink, then it toppled over, falling into the deep, dark depths below with an electronic cry.

- In the darkness of the drill shaft, something stirred. A faint glow of blue light. Systems that had shut down as the Dalek Attack Squad Leader plummeted into the depths of the shaft came back online. The blue glow of the Dalek's eye moved as it looked round and took stock of its surroundings.
- It had landed upright, on a shelf of rock far down the shaft. Its systems were badly damaged, its casing scuffed and dented. It was trapped miles below the ground, deep in a hole that ran almost to the molten core of the planet. There was no way the Dalek could ever escape, but despair was not a word in its vocabulary.
