From Hatchling to Warrior

At first, all I knew was light. Then I heard growls. Chirps. Screeches. And I immediately knew that this was home. I felt a nuzzle. Mom. Dad. Brother. My family. And when the light finally faded from my eyes, I saw wonders. I saw...me. Hundreds of dinos like me. I didn't know there could be so many. There were ones with beards, ones in nests, and just simply big ones.

"Raaaaa", I managed to squeak in awe. Then I couldn't keep my little eyes open any longer. I fell asleep.

When I awoke, the first thing Mom told me was about the community. How we all worked together. Like a big family. I knew family. The first few weeks I found myself learning everything I could. There were all kinds of crazy things my big family used, like rocks for chewing, wood for chewing, and even bones for...chewing. Dad told me to always stay alert in case someone wanted to steal our chewing stuff. I thought he was making a big deal about it.

Days, weeks, months went by. Suddenly, one day I awoke to a crash. I looked. Mom and Dad were gone. Brother was backed up in a corner. Towering over him was a big person with a lot of hair on his mouth. I thought it looked fun to chew. So I jumped and started chewing. The hairy man started swatting at me, but kept on hitting himself. Brother started chewing his leg. The hairy man's leg fell off. I stopped chewing. I realized that this was a zambi. The creepy green dead men we learned about. I got mad that he had tricked me into chewing on him. I hit him a couple times. He looked very mad that I hit him. I ran outside as Brother fought him off.

Outside, it was like a big game of tag. Except people were dying. In the very back, there was a fish lady in a big bowl. Was she food for the zambis?  That didn't make sense. She was yelling things and throwing octopi. I didn't like her. I tried to yell for Mom and Dad, but the sea of fighting drowned me out. I ran around, confused. Suddenly, I felt her nuzzle. Mom. I turned. Dad was next to her, but they looked scared. The last thing I remember was Dad biting a zambi and Mom yelling for me to run.

I hid for a very long time. Years passed by as I lived off of scraps and rainwater. I was in high alert, looking out for zombies and the fish woman. I remembered my Mom's screams. I wanted to get back at the zombies, but I was too scared.

One day, I heard a rustle. But this time, it felt like a friendly rustle. I backed up slowly, but made a slight growl to let them know I was here. Suddenly, Brother crashed out of the leaves. Brother! He lived! He explained to me about Neptuna(The fish woman) and her plan to invade Hollow Earth. She was slowly destroying villages.

That’s when I knew. We could fight back. We could find others like us. Others who didn’t want to live a life of fear. Others who would fight.
