Why cover letters are important

Why is a cover letter important? I mean, think about it. I've hired for roles before so I empathize with them. When you post a junior role you sometimes get a *lot* of resumes. There are really unpolished ones, there may be really good ones in there too. But they're hard to sift through. And then you get people who write you cover letters. And it just feels like those people care more, and you get to learn about them and get a feel for who they are and how they might be like in person. It's a million times better as an introduction, it shows the person puts in effort and wants the job, it just feels so much better. After a while you just ignore anyone who sends only a resume. Write a cover letter.
