- When you're a beginner it's easy to not get to play much, KOF is very much like tekken, some people have been playing over 10 years and the game is deep enough to where what you DO know isn't gonna matter against their movement and game sense. If you haven't seen it, watch this video - https://youtu.be/Ye3KVgI1LvU
- Once you've seen it, watch it again. Then go play. Repeat a few times. If you are capable of everything in this video, then at that point your losses come down to decision making and XIV-specific stuff.
- The simplest things you can do to instantly improve your play as a beginner:
- 1) Move backwards a lot and get used to using the 4 different jumps. You aren't glued to the ground in this game, use the space and try to be a moving target.
- 2) Learn to hit-confirm. This makes your offense immensely scarier.
- 3) Antiair in this game is not easy like in other 2D fighters. Depending on your character you may not have a "good" antiair button, like Ryo's crHP. Think of anti-air not as a response to a jump, but what happens when you attack parts of the screen as your opponent enters them. Antiairing full and superjumps is still feasible on reaction, however.
- 4) Learn how fireballs work. Short version: most fireball throwers are Guile. If you want the long version (or anything else, really) just ask.
