  3. Honestly I think everyone is going to land in these pitfalls, it’s part of being human. Doing your best to recognize and remedy that is all you can do. Keep your strongest truths close to heart and don’t be easily swayed in any direction without a strong and well put together reason. Even then you’ll sometimes realize the environment, friends, or communities you choose to spend time with aren’t helping you grow or progress, or may otherwise be pushing towards an echo chamber. Being able to take a step away and reprioritize is the best you can do. If you aren’t ever in a situation you didn’t want to be in, chances are you never go out and meet people in general. Remember that just discussing a topic doesn’t mean falling into an ideological pitfall. Keep your statements and opinions in line with each other, and make your own opinions based on factual evidence you have seen or read. I think the largest pitfall anyone could fall into would be to simply take to heart the opinions they see on social media. If you don’t choose a side, a side will many times choose you. Keep yourself grounded mentally and emotionally, and don’t worry yourself about being infallible.

  23. I’m confused about the other commenters because that’s how it is in America also, at least in my state, which is very conservative. Middle school class will have one or two days in a year to explain puberty and sex ed, along with teaching the kids hygiene.

  39. Yeah but it doesn’t have to be like that with all sports. Because watching women’s ufc live is just as entertaining as the men’s, even tho if it was a woman vs man it would be over. And then there’s sports like gymnastics in which the women’s is more advertised, I’ve never even heard of pro male gymnasts.

  67. Thanks for the genuine response. I guess we simply view this topic differently. I agree that dysphoria is diagnosed too quickly, especially with teens who simply are struggling with self image issues, but in my mind if someone wants to make decisions that change their mind, it’s their life to do that with. I hold the same viewpoint on drugs, contact sports, and anything else that can have lasting physical and mental effects. I think the best way to counter it is to supply as much information on the pros and cons so that people don’t get funneled into paths without knowing what damage can happen.

  71. Okay this is a genuine question. Why does it matter to you if a teenager decides they are transgender and goes through with the transition? In the case that happened, and when the courts asked the father not to speak about it, presumably so the kid wasn’t bullied, he ignored them. I used to be extremely openly transphobic and have grown out of it, as well as met some nice transgender individuals. If your reason is that the child is ruining their body, that’s 100% their choice and it doesn’t affect you. I genuinely want to know why you are so strongly opinionated on this, because I’ve seen you in multiple threads on this sub bringing up that same court case.

  79. I work in restaurants and have not once had someone bring up any grievance with masks before proceeding to make a scene. They usually start by saying they don’t like masks and then get angry when you try to explain that it’s the current law that they have to wear one. You can say that makes me an ass but that is genuinely the case 100% of the time. Dealing with screaming middle aged men while you’re being paid minimum wage is very draining so it is completely fair to assume in situations like that. And assuming isn’t always bad, it’s just me looking at past experience to make a good assumption.

  143. Politics is such a terrible sub, but don’t act like this one is much better. IMO it’s just a different circle jerk, same stuff but on the other side of the spectrum. Rarely does this subreddit get actually meaningful discussions, and a lot of the posts are simply about some left wing topic that the poster doesn’t like. This sub is largely overwhelmed by what I assume are edgy teenagers who went down the YouTube rabbit hole of “libtards getting destroyed compilation”. This is overall a better subreddit than most, especially large subs, but it’s not great.

  147. I am genuinely confused by this sub sometimes. I read 12 rules, and joined. It has been a mix of right- far right posts, meta posts against these, and just people who bought something related to Jordan Peterson. Unless he is a whole different person outside his writing it seems like people use him to leverage their own random ideas. This isn’t related to what you were saying but I felt like throwing it out there.
