  1. There was the light clicking of the door as it opened, before a sudden shuddering bang as the elder stepped forward. He stalked towards the front of the room, heavy steel boots clomping against the flooring. Any small chatter, any idle whispers were ignored as Dylerun would slowly turn at the apex of his walk, turning on a heel before snapping both feet back onto the ground.
  2.
  3. Dylerun Grauhimmels appearence was horribly plain compared to what one might expect from a 'teacher'. A simple black cloth wrap bound itself over one eye, the other a soft dull silver that caught the light. A simple black shirt clung tightly to his form, dark pants covering the mans short legs as in a moment of silence, his dirty steel-toed boots would tap once. Twice. Three times.
  4.
  5. His single eye would whir quietly as it scanned the room, drifting acrossed each student in turn before falling forward, simply staring at the back wall. His mouth opened to speak, a loudvoice, commanding. One that was used to shouting over the din of battlefields or crowded squares, despite the silence of the room.
  6.
  7. "My name is Dylerun Grauhimmel. Within the confines of this classroom, you will call me Master Grauhimmel, or Sir. You will obey my instructions at all time. I am not strict, this is for your own safety. Because within this room, you will be learning one of the deadliest arts not simply known to Valmasia, but every race. Tribe. Country. Small podunk island or clan, wherever you hail from."
  8.
  9. "This is not for everyone. If you fail my instructions, you may die. If you disobey me, you may get others killed. You may see things on the other side. Those of you who are faint of heart now, weak willed, or think that this powerful art isn't for them?"
  10.
  11. "I give you this opportunity to leave now."
  12.
  13. A pause, for those who would wish to exit.
  14. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  15.
  16.
  17. Dylerun Grauhimmel asks, "No? Nobody?"
  18.
  19. Zio exclaims, "AM I LATE?!"
  20.
  21. Zio exclaims, "!!!"
  22. Nima slowly raised his hand.
  23. (Nima Hatayer)
  24.
  25.
  26. Dylerun Grauhimmel exclaims, "YES!"
  27.
  28. Mina says, "Idiot..."
  29. Dylerun jabs a finger towards Nima.
  30. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  31.
  32.
  33. Dylerun Grauhimmel asks, "Question?"
  34. Kenshin shrugs.
  35. (Kenshin Masanori)
  36.
  37.
  38. Nima Hatayer asks, "..Sir, are we allowed to make notes only? As in.. Not actually try to -do- it?"
  39. Zio just sits on the floor I GUESS.
  40. (Zio)
  41.
  42.
  43. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "You are free to take notes during this class. This is simply the introduction."
  44. Lu gives up his seat to the poor neries..hell he can make cloud chairs.
  45. (Lu Zain)
  46.
  47. Zio >///<
  48. (Zio)
  49.
  50.
  51. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "I say this not to dissuade you. None of you will be able to do this just yet."
  52.
  53. Nima Hatayer says, "..No other questions then, sir."
  54. Kor sighs, unable to save a seat for his best friend.
  55. (Kor Niji)
  56.
  57.
  58. Dylerun Grauhimmel asks, "Good. The fundamentals, then: What is it?"
  59. Arthur knew of what Riftmancy is, exactly.
  60.
  61. But that didn't discourage him. Enthusiastic and confident in his ability, he knew more than anything else he would be able to grasp that ability - eventually, of course. After all, what else for he actually trained in Cognitive casting this entire time?
  62.
  63. His attention was diverted to Dylerun entirely. Nothing else even seemed to exist for Arthur right now; surely, he was the type to actually listen carefully and devote his time to studying.
  64.
  65. Remaining sat and waiting, he prepared a feather with ink, as well as a sheet of paper. He might carry those notes around later on.
  66.
  67. It can't be bad to write down whatever you hear, right?
  68. (Arthur Rowan)
  69.
  70. Mina whispers something.
  71.
  72. Jermal whispers something.
  73.
  74. Mina whispers something.
  75.
  76. Jermal whispers something.
  77.
  78. Zio motions for Mina to SHHHH!
  79. (Zio)
  80.
  81. Zio does it very subtly.
  82. (Zio)
  83.
  84. Kor wonders how he was able to even get her attention if it was truly that subtle.
  85. (Kor Niji)
  86.
  87. "Rift Magic, simply put, is teleportation. Keep in mind that is horribly ignorant, and just that. Simply put. What it actually is, is quite a bit more complicated." A piece of paper would be retrieved from behind him, a pencil held in his opposite hand. He held them up, Dylerun making sure that those present could see the instruments in his hands.
  88.
  89. "We are this pencil. The lifestream, is this paper." He would wiggle it, the paper wobbling in his hand before stiffening. "The Lifestream is ever flowing. You can't see it, yet its all around you. You can't touch it. Well. Not yet. With Rift magic, you use your mana to..." The paper would be folded in half, shown up once more, before jabbed through with the pencil, poking what appeared to be a single hole in the paper. "...Punch a hole in the lifestream, or paper, temporarily connecting one place to another."
  90.
  91. "Afterwards, you step through." Zio was not horribly subtle, sadly, as the single silver eye of the Rift mage focused in on him. It clicked for a moment, before he continued. "This is a means to travel acrossed the continent in an instant. We have yet to attempt to travel further, because we know our limits. I would hate to be ripped in two."
  92.
  93. The paper would be unfolded, revealing the two holes in the paper. "The lifestream, after we form our Rift, flows. It fixes those holes left behind, closing the portals you open that allow us to traverse." The paper and pencil would beset down behind him, hands steepling before him as he would begin to pace forward slowly.
  94.
  95. "That is simply one of the many uses. Weaponization, short-blink teleportations, a means to store nonliving objects like weapons or armor to allow you to draw upon them when need be. It is as versatile as you and your mind make it out to be."
  96.
  97. "...Any questions, before I go further?"
  98. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  99.
  100. Nima simply kept writing on his notebook, not really asking anything for now since he was far too focused on his own stuff. Also, to not bother the others in class. Yey.
  101. (Nima Hatayer)
  102.
  103. The boy walked into the school. Wooden sandals knocked against the ground. Clak, clak.
  104.
  105. And like that, he taps his hand idly along the wall, feeling it as he traces his place around the room. And when reaching the soft carpet, sandals are left out and he steps on top of it, nude feet feeling the soft textures.
  106.
  107. And yet, he seems to freeze and simply look inwards, a soft humming of the earth accompanying the boy.
  108. (Angelo Sanguinis)
  109.
  110.
  111. Noel Farwell asks, "So does that mean it's impossible to use rift magic to connect to any place farther? Or is it that no one has managed to do it yet?"
  112. Odd.
  113.
  114. So much like Necromancy has done it, Riftmancy was prone to tear the holes in the Lifestream? At least, that's explains how exactly Riftmancy functions - one could not expect for teleportation to function just like that, of course.
  115.
  116. And with that explanation given, many things became immediately clear as day.
  117.
  118. Deciding to actually write it all down, Arthur took his time doing so; no doubt that it was a very complicated process of Cognitive casting, as Dylerun noted it - there were certain limits that even the most powerful Riftmancers could not cross.
  119.
  120. And that is, going beyond continent, for example. A shame, really.
  121.
  122. "None, Master Grauhimmel."
  123.
  124. Being done with writing everything he needed, his attention resumed upon Dylerun, listening.
  125. (Arthur Rowan)
  126.
  127. Lu quitely pulled a notebook out of the cloud and proceeded to simply scribble down what Dlyerun said.
  128. (Lu Zain)
  129.
  130.
  131. Iosif asks, "..what if I rifted to the moon. And then back?"
  132.
  133. Kor Niji says, "Neat..."
  134.
  135. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "None have tried. We are few and far between. Too much energy and it could simply tear you in half."
  136.
  137. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Not enough, and you may end up in the bottom of the ocean."
  138.
  139. Iosif says, "..damn."
  140.
  141.
  142. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "As for the moon...I'll leave you to your imagination."
  143. Such a fantastic explanation, the green haired's eyes hovering over the teacher, his interested gaze is quite obvious, well, it was more of curiosity than interest in such arts, it was qutie easy to notice.
  144.
  145. A hard nod from him, so that's what it is about... Atleast he was able to admire the way this man taught, wich probably means that he is alrady a bit experienced in such arts, his arms crossed as he stood calm, waiting for the others to speak, hearing it all as he grabs a piece of papper and starts to make his notes about it.
  146. (Kenshin Masanori)
  147.
  148. Her small armor clad hand would raise. Her free hand jotting down notes...
  149.
  150. "Mister Dyle, how do you close the holes? Or do you just have to wait it out?"
  151. (Mina)
  152.
  153.
  154. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "You don't. The lifestream forcefully closes the portals behind you."
  155.
  156. Nima Hatayer asks, "I.. Actually have a question, sir. What happens to the lifestream when you 'rip it' in half? Does it get hurt or something?"
  157.
  158. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Like stepping into an actual river, when you step out, there isnt a hole left behind."
  159. The introductory Rift Magic class was packed beyond capacity, unsurprising as it was a first or second choice of so many students that had even a vague idea of its capabilities. Chrom was amongst them, sat up straight and more alert than he usually was during these daylight hours.
  160.
  161. He was content but to listen from his seat at the rear of the class, though one part concerned him-- shattering an optimistic illusion perhaps. Before he could so much as speak, another asked a similar question to what he wished to.
  162.
  163. Even so, he spoke up.
  164.
  165. "Sir, is Agartha really the only place it could reach? I was hoping for a bit more freedom, even if it's still very convenient-sounding... have you tried, say, sending somebody through to the mainland Valmasia and contacting them to find out if they survived?"
  166.
  167. (Chrom Sigma)
  168.
  169.
  170. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Reports have shown that anyone sent through a portal to try and get them to Valmasia, even next to the shore, would appear only some few miles away."
  171.
  172. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "And those are those who survived the experience."
  173.
  174. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Perhaps with a spire shard, some tinkering. Something could be done."
  175. He nodded, taking notes and recordings of what was happening. Taking notes with his note book and pencil. Scribbling down important information spoken by Dylerun. Every single word he had said, jotted down. Jermal not even bothering to summarize it. Using time to replay the words of the man over and over in his mind until he was sure he got everything down.
  176.
  177. Once that was done, he would close the book before letting out a slight frown. Hurting the life stream. So this was what Hanleigh talked about? Sadly he wasn't feeling too zealous about this lesson but he had once again dug himself deep into this pit so he would have to follow through.
  178. (Jermal)
  179.
  180.
  181. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "But simple rift magic, on its own? No."
  182.
  183. Chrom Sigma says, "So it's not hopeless..."
  184.
  185. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Nothing is hopeless, Chrom."
  186. Nima sighs as his question is ignored.
  187. (Nima Hatayer)
  188.
  189. Vira Bathory whispers something.
  190.
  191.
  192. Ishmael asks, "Ambitious, aren't we?"
  193.
  194. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "I heard that sigh, and I partially answered it."
  195.
  196. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "The damage is...temporary."
  197. Chrom Sigma whispers something.
  198.
  199. Laphicet was quite interested in the theories and practices of Riftmancy although it wasn't his major taking the class was still very much beneficial. Tearing apart the lifestream to traverse towards your destination made it seem quite a rough and methodical method of travel.
  200.
  201. If even one mistake were to happen the person would be ripped in half! Raising his hand to be noticed Laphicet motioned for a question.
  202.
  203. " Is it possible for multiple rift mages to pool their magic together and travels greater distances? Or is such impossible?"
  204. (Laphicet)
  205.
  206. Gil listens in on the explanation, the shinobi thinks this was pretty straight forward in terms of the example. Dylerun was a pretty cool teacher in the Shinobi's eyes.
  207.
  208. He moves his hand forward, and then thinks about Vital points. He channels his chi, the shinobi channels mana into his left hand. He strained himself to try and pry at a small area beside him.
  209.
  210. He halts after swiping nothing but air. The shinobi then has to stop himself. He wanted to think a bit deeper about this. He closes his eyes, and repeats the explanation in his head. The Shinobi releases what hold he had on his chi, a warm sensation may have been felt by anyone within 3 feet of him. That was his limit.
  211.
  212. The shinobi then envisions the pencil prodding the paper, traveling entirely through, and then closing. The method seemed pretty simple. The most useful piece of information he pulled from this besides the technique, was the storage. the shinobi carried multitudes of kunai and shuriken. He needed more space to hold all of that stuff.
  213.
  214. He then silences his aura, cooling off. He opens his eyes, the last thing he saw was the hole in the paper closing as if the gap in the life stream he had envisioned sealed itself.
  215.
  216. The shinobi would probably need this magic, seriously.
  217. (Gil)
  218.
  219.
  220. Nima Hatayer says, "Ah.. I see. Temporary damage."
  221. Zio didn't actually want to learn Rift Magic coming into this clas... he thought this was cooking.
  222.
  223. Though, hearing Dylerun talk, it definitely motivated him to try-- easy transport? It sounded so fun!
  224.
  225. Grinning, he'd pull out a notebook and start taking trivial notes, just to make sure he didn't miss anything important.
  226.
  227. Hearing the other students ask good questions also made him scribble faster, attempting to catching everything.
  228.
  229. Exhaling a deep sigh, he'd attentively watch the teacher's actions and lips move, squinting slightly to interpret the teachings in a way that he could understand better.
  230.
  231. It was working for the most part.
  232.
  233. Extreme visualization!
  234.
  235. The potential with this magic was limitless... and he most certainly didn't lack the willingness to pursue this seriously.
  236. (Zio)
  237.
  238. Nima just keeps to his notes.
  239. (Nima Hatayer)
  240.
  241.
  242. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Adjudicator Nyphadora and I have never bothered to try. Our lives are more valuable than a simple experiment to try and combine energy, I'm afraid."
  243.
  244. Dylerun Grauhimmel asks, "However, its something thats been talked about before. Could enough Rift mages open a portal back home?"
  245.
  246. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "...Possible."
  247.
  248. Settling into the seat in the back of Rift Class, Vira taps a pen against her notepad and listens in on the explanations- she knew a basic amount of rift and had been through several herself (mostly due to Nyphadora's tricks), but the concept of it was still...
  249.
  250. ...it still escaped her, for the most pair.
  251.
  252. Raising her hand, she spoke her own question, curious:
  253.
  254. "Mr. Dylerun, what about the void between rifts? The space in between? Is there any real research on that, and if you can even access it?"
  255.
  256. It was a difficult question to phrase, as she didn't really know what she was talking about- but there were documented cases of lingering remnants of rifts and the voids they left behind. Interested, she stopped tapping her pen and waited for her turn for a question to be answered.
  257. (Vira Bathory)
  258.
  259.
  260. Kor Niji asks, "The void? What the heck?"
  261. Laphicet grew excited by all the questions being asked and the answers made sure to scribble down on his notes all the ones that stood out to him.
  262. (Laphicet)
  263.
  264. Chrom appears thoughtful, doodling on some paper and trying to conceptualise this 'Void' she spoke of.
  265. (Chrom Sigma)
  266.
  267. "Miss Vira asks the important question, ladies and gentlemen, as it points at one of the characteristics of Rift Magic. As convenient as it is...it is also conveniently dangerous." His void would harbor concern as he continued to speak, his singular eye scanning the students as he slowly turned in a circle.
  268.
  269. "You are connecting two places. But what is in between? We believe that it is the space between things. An unending, cold, broken mass of blackness that would seek to swallow you up in the instance you made a mistake." Or at least, that was as much as Dylerun knew about it. What things could be discovered from such a yawning plain of existence?
  270.
  271. "If lets say...young Vira were to open a rift. However, she becomes distracted. Something ails her, or a mosquito lands on her. If her concentration breaks, even for a moment, that connection she meant to make between destinations could be severed. It would default to the Void. She would step through unknowingly."
  272.
  273. "And she would die, cold and alone in the midst of space between the stars."
  274. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  275.
  276.
  277. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "It is a very real thing. And in this class, it is a very real danger."
  278.
  279. Zio says, "<- W-.. Were we supposed to sign a waiver? ->"
  280. Zio sinks into himself.
  281. (Zio)
  282.
  283. Lu jots down a few more notes in his weather beaten notebook.
  284. (Lu Zain)
  285.
  286.
  287. Gil asks, "What happens if a multitude of people try to shove themself inside, when lets say, a novice opens a rift?"
  288. Laphicet crosses his arms and thinks to himself...Such a thing requires that intense of a thought process? Its indeed convient yet its also quite a dangerous power
  289. (Laphicet)
  290.
  291.
  292. Gil asks, "Are they lost in this cold place?"
  293. The space between the stars.....
  294.
  295. It was intriguing, even as he tried to use her as an example of someone who'd failed a rift- she was more interested in the concept of the space between than the actual concept of rifting from place to place, it seemed. Energetically, she wrote down everything Dylerun had to say in her notepad.
  296.
  297. And she only occassionally glanced at Chrom's drawings with a snicker before going back to her own pristine notes.
  298.
  299. "Has anyone ever been to that space and lived?" she continued to press, "Someone must have if we know that much about it, right...?"
  300.
  301. She leaned forward in her seat, still hanging on to every word.
  302. (Vira Bathory)
  303.
  304.
  305. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Yes. If they're lucky, the portal closes before they can even follow."
  306.
  307. Gil says, "Mhm.. That's great for a clean get away then.."
  308. He jots down some more notes, and realized that the chances of people surviving kept dimming down as the class went by. And this was just the introductory lesson. This was going to be a long couple of years before graduation.
  309. (Jermal)
  310.
  311.
  312. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "...As for those who have survived? I've spent a majority of my time here. I wasn't a scholar before I came, nor do I know much besides what I teach you here."
  313.
  314. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "However...someone must have."
  315.
  316. Vira Bathory says, "If we know that much about it, then... it must be possible."
  317.
  318. Dylerun Grauhimmel exclaims, "It must be!"
  319. Hearing that coming from Dylerun, it was rather... a scary thought that one could get lost in a cold, vast space just like that.
  320.
  321. It even sent a shudder down Arthur's spine. To think that you could just die so easily from a simple mistake made? It even sounded... almost anti-climatic to die this way.
  322.
  323. One mistake in concentration, and it's over.
  324.
  325. Arthur made sure to note it down as well, the fact that concentration is actually this important - it was no surprise to him, knowing that it relies on Cognitive Casting, which uses up quite a lot of user's attention, but--
  326.
  327. -- to acknowledge that it's this much of a big deal? Unexpected.
  328. (Arthur Rowan)
  329.
  330.
  331. Dylerun Grauhimmel asks, "Are you willing to try?"
  332. Gil nods, he was interesting in this surely. The Shinobi begins to channel his chi once more. Trying to get a feel for the life stream around him. His chi lets off a light golden tint over his skin.
  333. (Gil)
  334.
  335.
  336. Gil says, "Certainly."
  337.
  338. Vira Bathory says, "If I was an advanced Rift Mage, I might."
  339.
  340. Vira Bathory says, "...but I'm not."
  341.
  342. Chrom Sigma says, "Stupid..."
  343.
  344. The lumberjack spins around to keep his eyes and ears on the rift magi. The void? That piqued his interest, something about it just intrigued him... Just an odd thing to think about, just a lapse in focus and boom, death? Would a man of inconceivable fortitude and will be able to open a rift without worrying for his death? A cold thought but a rather good one, he decided to finally open his mouth for a question instead of a comment.
  345.
  346. "How much focus DO you need to open a rift?"
  347. (Kor Niji)
  348.
  349. Mina was listening, but she was on the verge of falling asleep. Her interest peaked at the thought of the void between the rifts. She payed close attention jotting things down as Dyle spoke.
  350. (Mina)
  351.
  352.
  353. Mina exclaims, "..!"
  354.
  355. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Hm."
  356.
  357. Such a wild and untamed topic! Yet what interested him most of all about Riftmancy was the manipulation of the Lifestream itself? How did one summon enough mana to simply bore through the lifestream?
  358.
  359. " How exactly to you open a rift with your mana? Are you manipulating the lifestream itself? Or are you using mana in some special way?"
  360. (Laphicet)
  361.
  362.
  363. Gil says, "You can't get anywhere without trying."
  364. Gil whispers something.
  365.
  366.
  367. Dylerun Grauhimmel asks, "...How about a demonstration?"
  368.
  369. The talk of the void admittedly caught his attention once again, attempting to draw something that could represent the concept accurately on his yellowed sheet of paper. It wasn't very good, but at least he was trying. Once Dylerun talked about a demonstration, however...
  370.
  371. He stopped writing, paying full attention.
  372. (Zio)
  373.
  374. Zio whispers something.
  375.
  376.
  377. Zio says, "Yes sir"
  378.
  379. Zio says, "."
  380. "As a novice rift mage, you require the utmost concentration. You will hear that word alot, as well as two others. Write them down, we call them the 'Three C's'. Concentration. Control. And Confidence."
  381.
  382. Fingers would flex into the air as the Rift mage spoke, hand held off to the side. A horrible, gut-wrenching sensation would fill the air of all those nearby, unsettling to each of the youths in their own spine-chilling way. A small black dot would begin to appear in the middle of the air, unseen as of yet, before it would begin to grow. An open black mass that would begin to spark as he spoke.
  383.
  384. "In practice, it can take up to several minutes your first few times. This is to be expected. Better safe, than sorry, as I've warned you of what could happen if you make a mistake. Nyphadora is able to open a portal almost instantaneously, partially from her being a fairy, and her being my master. For me, some few seconds will do."
  385.
  386. "What you must do is concentrate on a singular point of interest. Your room, this class, a thicket of wood you play in. Like the pencil and paper, you focus your mana to the utmost. Use it to pierce the lifestream, widening the opening, and then stepping through. Although, none of you will be able to do this unassisted."
  387.
  388. The Rift would split the air next to Dylerun, a swirling mass of grey centered with black. Purple arcing bolts of electricity would spark the ground, striking lightly at the desk of Nima and Zio as he continued to speak. The air seemed filled with ozone, like a small thunderstorm was brewing near the portal. A hand would gesture towards it, before it the fingers would snap. The portal closing with a horrible boom that shook the room, air slowly beginning to return to normal.
  389. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  390.
  391. Lauren Raynor whispers something.
  392.
  393. Na'atl whispers something.
  394.
  395.
  396. Zio exclaims, "!"
  397. Vira Bathory whispers something.
  398.
  399. Na'atl whispers something.
  400.
  401. Vira Bathory whispers something.
  402.
  403.
  404. Lu Zain exclaims, "!"
  405. This was absolutely fascinating to spectate.
  406.
  407. To see the Rift actually being formed at Dylerun's fingertips right during the lesson, he certainly didn't expect that such thing would happen - but nonetheless, he was more than glad that it actually did. What better knowledge you could ask for than a live demonstration made by someone who's been practising this art for so long?
  408.
  409. The air had almost gone still.
  410.
  411. And he could feel the shivers being sent down his spine once the blackhole began to form in the middle of the room; it was much like an all-devouring void that just waited for someone to step into its cold embrace, if only to take them to the places unknown.
  412.
  413. In case of failed rifts, sometimes, to their death.
  414.
  415. "Woah..."
  416.
  417. He couldn't help it, and a silent mutter escaped his breath. Once the demonstration was done, and the air returned to normal, he went to write down absolutely everything he just witnessed, and make sure to note the three 'Big C's' that Dylerun spoke of.
  418.
  419. Everything, even the smallest detail, was recorded. He was probably never so thorough before.
  420. (Arthur Rowan)
  421.
  422. "Concentrate on a singular point of interest."
  423.
  424. As the lightning lightly struck his desk, the Neries student would hastily write down the 'three Cs' on his sheet of paper, right under the conceptual drawing.
  425.
  426. - Concentration
  427. - Control
  428. - Confidence
  429.
  430. He'd need to remember all of this. Muttering under his breath, he thinks.
  431. (Zio)
  432.
  433. Zio whispers something.
  434.
  435. The Accursed stood silent, as he mentally fortifies himself for what was expected of a novice rift mage. Concentration, control, confidence. The three C's required to tear a hole in the fabric of space and time for the convenience of the user. An art that Ishmael himself would require, in order to respond swiftly to Illaron's aid. There were more uses beyond just a speedy rescue, but a swift escape as well.
  436.
  437. "Poke a hole into the paper, stick the pencil through, pass through yourself." Ishmael spoke his thoughts aloud, eyes still kept shut as he lifts his chin to feel the atmosphere shifting. He braced himself, preparing for the resulting boom that echoed with the taint of damaging the Lifestream.
  438.
  439. "Mmm. Familiar." His words were mumbled to no one in particular, shifting in place to reset his slightly perturbed balance. Although his eyes weren't open, Ishmael felt the disturbance, seeing with other means than the usage of his eyes.
  440. (Ishmael)
  441.
  442.
  443. Zio says, "..."
  444. Dylerun had made it sound so simple in words, but it was without a doubt anything but. The Accursed could hardly peel his eyes away, on the edge of his seat in observation of the process. It was at once terrifying on some level but more so very impressive.
  445.
  446. That factor alone made of Chrom an enthusiastic student.
  447.
  448. "Sir! How long do you think it would take for one of us to learn how to do that?"
  449.
  450. He was far too eager, not yet even jotting down his notes on the subject-- he wasn't that good at keeping them, apparently...
  451.
  452. (Chrom Sigma)
  453.
  454. The three C's huh? Interesting...Either way. The valmasian made sure to jot down what he said before that sickening gut-wrenching sensation filled the nearby air...Sinister..
  455.
  456. His eyes soon turned towards the small black dot that began to grow rapidly. Interesting..
  457.
  458.
  459.
  460. (Lu Zain)
  461.
  462. And then the demonstration...the air filled with a malice a chill that disrupted the very air in the class room remained still. Yet sweltering towards the point where the black dot Dylerun summoned laid. As his words continued to flow from his voice the mass grew and grew until arcs of lightning and mystic power flowed into a beating hole in the very air itself.
  463.
  464. He couldn't believe his eyes. He simply opened a hole in the air like it was nothing! The youth couldn't withstand the uneasy pressure of the rift being opened not only was it exciting and interesting it was dark, cold and filled with malevolence.
  465.
  466. Although this was not enough to scare Laphicet off he only grew in interest in the art. Such an ability in capable hands like Mister Dyle and Lady Nyphadora it was clear why they were masters.
  467.
  468. After he whipped the cold sweat from his brow he made sure to write down the previous moniker Dyle used regarding the Three C's...With that demonstrationhe could see very much so why all three were important to the task.
  469. (Laphicet)
  470.
  471.
  472. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "To open a rift, likely some few years. Or sooner, depending on your aptitude for it."
  473.
  474. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "You are all young. You've all the time to learn."
  475. Dylerun glances at Ishmael, before looking away.
  476. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  477.
  478.
  479. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Well, some of you are young."
  480.
  481. Jermal says, "<Ah damn..think I fell asleep there>"
  482. Three C's...
  483.
  484. Mina listened well, her head resting on the desk... The girl was tired, but she was still paying attention. She'd stop writing for now only making mental notes.
  485.
  486. 'Rift magic is something else...' she'd murmur.
  487. (Mina)
  488.
  489. Kor felt his spine tingle, his back grew sweaty. Like cutting down the strongest tree he had ever seen in ages! There was an immense form of fear that followed just behind the gut-wrenching sensation that barraged him from all angles. He didn't like it, not one bit and yet... He had to keep watching, but his eyes betrayed him. He stared down at the floor attempting to keep his ears focused on Dylerun's teachings. He was unable to see anything that had happened. Goes to show the Three C's weren't in Kor's mind of all places.
  490. (Kor Niji)
  491.
  492.
  493. Chrom Sigma says, "That's a while, but I guess it's worth it.."
  494.
  495. Lu Zain says, "Alls well that ends well.."
  496.
  497. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "You aren't walking or flying. You're using your sheer force to tear a hole in the fabric of the world itself to waltz through."
  498.
  499. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Its powerful. Its useful."
  500.
  501. Dylerun Grauhimmel asks, "How many of you would say...they're interested?"
  502. Chrom raises his hand.
  503. (Chrom Sigma)
  504.
  505.
  506. Dylerun Grauhimmel asks, "A show of hands, how many of you are genuine? How many of you think they're deserving?"
  507. Vira raises her hand!
  508. (Vira Bathory)
  509.
  510.
  511. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Thats two."
  512.
  513. Chrom Sigma says, "It must be profitable too..."
  514.
  515. Sora asks, "Wait-- Deserving of what?"
  516.
  517. Sora says, "I'm late.."
  518.
  519. Vira Bathory asks, "Are you thinking of starting up a taxi service?"
  520. Kor naturally raises his hand.
  521. (Kor Niji)
  522.
  523. Lauren might have been late, but she'd show interest with a flick of her hand upwards. Whether or not she was deserving was another question entirely.
  524. (Lauren Raynor)
  525.
  526.
  527. Chrom Sigma says, "For enough money, maybe."
  528. Lu raises his hand as well.
  529. (Lu Zain)
  530.
  531. Nima didn't raise his hand, and simply kept making notes.
  532. (Nima Hatayer)
  533.
  534. Looking around nervously, Na'atl slowly and sheepishly raises his hand.
  535. (Na'atl)
  536.
  537.
  538. Ishmael says, "I'm also interested."
  539. Arthur raises his hand.
  540. (Arthur Rowan)
  541.
  542. He'd raise his hand because why not. Always looking for a challenge. After which he would drop his hand and copy Mina's half arsed notes.
  543. (Jermal)
  544.
  545.
  546. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Rift magic, green haired kid. Check the board after class, I'll have a brief summary for those who missed the majority."
  547.
  548. Sora says, "Oh... Alright! And my name's Sora... Sorry, Mister."
  549.
  550. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Thats okay, green haired kid."
  551.
  552. Laphicet exclaims, "I'm interested in the practice and theory but unfortunately my passion lies with Necromancy...but I still wish to observe the class if possible!"
  553.
  554. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Observation is fine, questions are always welcome."
  555. Zio raises his hand a bit late.
  556. (Zio)
  557.
  558.
  559. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "You are here to learn, and in doingso, spread the knowledge and will of our Morninglord. Even doing something as simple as sitting in class is all the better."
  560.
  561. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "For those of you truly interested. I have your homework."
  562.
  563. Zio exclaims, "Homework?!"
  564.
  565. Zio says, "Ngh.. "
  566. Zio faceplants.
  567. (Zio)
  568.
  569.
  570. Iosif says, "..yo, pass the notes.."
  571.
  572. Lauren Raynor says, "OOoh, homework."
  573.
  574. Zio says, "... no, get your own you bum."
  575.
  576. Lu Zain says, "Homework..simple enough."
  577.
  578. Kor Niji exclaims, "Fantastic!"
  579.
  580. Na'atl says, "Seems interesting..."
  581. Arthur Rowan whispers: Not now, Iosif. After class.
  582.
  583. Iosif whispers: Okay.
  584.
  585. Homework. The dread of any student, the bane of any existence known to any race amongst those of Eternia. "Well, I shouldn't call it 'homework'. Its more...'study material'." He would slowly walk back towards the front of the class, stepping behind the desk a moment before recieving a small bag. He would begin walking around the classrom, pulling out what almost seemed to be capture cubes, and placing them infront of each students desk. Handing it to those that were standing in the back.
  586.
  587. "These are your 'Keys'. If you lose your Key, I will not make you another one. These small runic cubes will be your friend in your off hours, and the hellscape you will have to confront in the next coming months of class. Their purpose is simply." They were each roughly the size of an apple,Dyleruns held tightly in his crooked oaken-like fingers as he presented it forward.
  588.
  589. "Mana, focus. Concentrate. Find a spot you desire, like I stated before. Your room, this library. Anywhere you know well. Allow it to fill your mindscape. The placement of each object, the lighting, the very smell of the room will all allow you to form a stronger connection. Harness that thought, and allow your mana to flow into the cube."
  590.
  591. His runic cube would begin to glow a soft blue, the intricate runes scribed onto it humming gently as it began to absorb the mana. "This is a focus exercise, to see how much mana you are able to bring to bear. If the runes glow, and it begins to hum, then you have the minimum capacity to perhaps form a small rift, Gods willing. From there, you focus on your destination to the utmost and push forward. If you're lucky...eventually, you will be able to form a rift."
  592.
  593. "Your mind is a muscle. Stretch it, harness it. Control it. And you will all be able to do great things. I know it."
  594.
  595. "Any questions, before class is dismissed?"
  596. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  597.
  598. The blind man simply looks forward, into Dylerun. He seems to eye the room as a soft thrum echoes through, before he walks forward -- Bumping into Laphicet, a soft and low "Sorry" echoing from his gentle voice, and then he stops, looking forwards.
  599.
  600. No questions so far, only a simple... Observation, even with those empty irises.
  601. (Angelo Sanguinis)
  602.
  603.
  604. Gil asks, "Can you warp someones head away, how long would it take to get to that level of master to do it in say... 5 seconds?"
  605.
  606. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "..."
  607. Dylerun begins to flex his fingers in Gils direction...
  608. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  609.
  610.
  611. Dylerun Grauhimmel asks, "Lets find out, shall we?"
  612. Gil holds his hands up and darts around the class room.
  613. (Gil)
  614.
  615.
  616. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Mmh."
  617.
  618. Ishmael says, "Now, I have a question..."
  619.
  620. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Young Ishmael."
  621.
  622. Ishmael asks, "This cube won't explode if I put too much mana into it, will it?"
  623.
  624. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "It will, but that requires a tremendous amount."
  625.
  626. Ishmael says, "The last thing I need is more shrapnel embedded into my face."
  627.
  628. Lu Zain says, "Hm..No questions from me.."
  629.
  630. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "If you're capable of ruining the cube, then you don't need this class."
  631.
  632. Ishmael says, "I'm here to learn how to tear a fabric through space and time, Mister Grauhimmel."
  633.
  634. Ishmael says, "And so I will learn."
  635.
  636. Kor Niji asks, "This small cube, huh?"
  637.
  638. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "Mh."
  639.
  640. Ishmael says, "I just want to make sure this... 'Cube' accounts for my tier of power."
  641. Dylerun rolls his eye.
  642. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  643.
  644.
  645. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "I'm sure it will."
  646.
  647. Nima Hatayer says, "...No questions, sir."
  648.
  649. Ishmael says, "I suppose I shall trust your word."
  650.
  651. Na'atl says, "I guess everywhere has people like that..."
  652.
  653. Gil asks, "I have another question... Please don't warp my head away while i stand still for a moment...If you put a rift inside of a Daemon Cube... could you store items in that cube ...or even a person?"
  654. Capture cubes? Only losers trained daemons....
  655.
  656. Listening to Dylerun, Vira had settled back into her chair and had filled out more notes, dilligently writing down everything he had to say. Her notes were colorful and pretty, written up with multicolored pens with everything important highlighted with glitter.
  657.
  658. Chewing on the back of her pen, she stared at the capture cube on her desk and considered it, thinking.
  659.
  660. If mana was the key, then she had plenty of that.
  661.
  662. But glancing sidelong over at Chrom, she appeared to size him up before shaking her head, closing her notebook and picking up the cube on her desk instead. Turning it over a few times in her hand, the Neries hummed to herself- thinking on mana, on how to manipulate it, and how she probably had an edge over most of the rest of the class because of it.
  663.
  664. Shaking her head to confirm she had no further questions, she began to put away her things whilelistening to the others talk.
  665. (Vira Bathory)
  666.
  667.
  668. Dylerun Grauhimmel says, "I've never tampered with Daemon cubes. I've never tried."
  669. With mention of homework, Chrom's enthusiasm diminished in the slightest. He had never gotten any at any point before now, but it was something of a natural disinclination towards having any obligations at all.
  670.
  671. He was encouraged though, that it wasn't some written assignment-- he almost looked smug at the suggestion that their ability to call upon an excessive quantity of mana would be a factor, given the depth of his own reserves.
  672.
  673. It remained to be seen though, if he could use enough at once...
  674.
  675. He didn't have more questions, contented with the explanation thus far for the moment and eager to take a crack at the cube exercise. After class, anyway.
  676.
  677. (Chrom Sigma)
  678.
  679.
  680. Gil says, "Mhm... Thank you for sharing today."
  681. At first, Arthur didn't even understand the purpose of these.
  682.
  683. Why would they need to carry the cubes around and just... focus their mana on them? Couldn't they do more practice instead, such as simply watching Dylerun perform Riftmancy, or even trying that out on their own?
  684.
  685. Upon receiving one of the cubes, the redhaired Valmasian kept staring at it. Just what could possibly be the purpose behind it? You can't be saying that--
  686.
  687. -- wait a moment.
  688.
  689. Riftmancy was all about knowing places, warping to them, and actually forming connections, right? So that's what it was. It was about going to places and forming connections to them, to actually reflect upon the mana ambience of any particular place they'd go to.
  690.
  691. To truly understand the distance.
  692.
  693. "Oh..."
  694.
  695. "No questions, Master Grauhimmel."
  696.
  697. Most of the minor questions that were asked by others were already covered. Otherwise? Arthur was actually pretty bright - most of the things that were asked by others were, in fact, common sense to him.
  698.
  699. Or at least something you can figure out on your own, just like he did now.
  700.
  701. "Thank you for your lesson, Sir."
  702. (Arthur Rowan)
