  1. Hello! My name is Luke, and today I’ve asked you here to help me test a public site and see what it’s like for regular folks to use it. Before we begin, do I have your permission to record your progress on my phone and use your name?
  2. This test is certainly not about anyone’s skills at using a browser; there are no mistakes to be made, as all experience and input goes towards making the site better and easier to use. As such, as we go I’ll ask a few questions here and there, to see what’s going through your mind as you use the site. Any details would be awesome.
  3. If there are any questions regarding the use of the site, I may not assist right away (as part of the test is seeing how users that don’t have someone with the know-how sitting next to them get through it), but should the need arise I’m there.
  4. To start, let’s get a handle on everyone’s background. Can you tell me a little about yourselves? What does your work entail? Additionally, how are your internet habits? What kind of devices do you use to access the web, and about how much time out of your day do you spend browsing? What kind of sites do you find yourself drawn to?
  5. On to the site. It’s a site that allows users to map out running, hiking, and bicycle routes. Before we get started, how would you think a site like this might look? What kind of features would you expect? How obvious and easy to navigate to would you expect these features to be?
  6.
  7.
  8. Regarding the test itself, the objective is to use the site for its intended purpose: posting an activity and sharing it! Let’s start by having you create an account. (Were you able to get through this quickly and easily?).
  9. Next, I’d like you to create a workout. Try using walking and walking up and down the block. Were you able to find the workout creation tool and use it easily? Is the tool where you would expect it to be? Are there any suggestions as to how it might be more easily found?
  10. Finally, let’s start the process of sharing it to social media. Are you able to find the share button easily? Is it where you might expect it to be? Are there any suggestions as to how it might be more easily found?
  11.
  12.
  13. POST TEST
  14. So how did you feel using the app? Frustrated? Confused? Or like it was a breeze?
  15. Were you able to find out how to do everything with ease? Or was it a bit opaque?
  16. Would you recommend this app to people looking to track fitness progress or activity routes?
  17.
  18. Thanks for helping refine the user experience for this site. Cheers!
