- Ayy, you got some time for your mod interview?
- Goret Today at 11:01
- Hey
- Yeah, I have time for it
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:04
- Excellent. The way I usually do these is that I run you through a few scenarios that may or may not be common things we get through ahelps, then after that I ask some server/rule questions. If you have any questions regarding what powers (trial) mods have then please feel free to ask, however I'll list your powers below. Give as much depth and detail as you can on how you would go about these scenarios, same premise goes for the rule/server related questions. Doesn't hurt to do your best as it'll all help with the decision process.
- These are your powers:
- PM people
- Wind people
- View variables (Useful for things such as looking at who that person has attacked/who has attacked them. Also allows you to see who touched an object.)
- Temp ban people, trial mods cannot permaban people. Mods can.
- Adding/remove notes on a player.
- Adding warnings, however they cannot be removed by a trial mod
- Kick people from the server
- Jobban people
- They can jump to people through playerpanel, they can also jump to people by clicking JMP when it appears next to their names. Certain logs also have a JMP button for jumping to them. Such as opening gas cannisters
- Check which antagonists are in the game and their names
- Check the account age of the player (Based off of when they first joined the server)
- Tell me when you're ready and we can get started with the scenarios
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:07
- You can also ask me for information on the scenario as you would ingame. I'll be acting as the PM'd people and giving you information you may find yourself. Make sense?
- Goret Today at 11:08
- Alrighty
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:08
- In that case here we go! First scenario: A new player joins with the character name "Vladimir Putin", a bald 30 year old assistant. What do you do?
- Goret Today at 11:10
- Alright, firstly I will check the account age of the player, then jump on them to see what they are actually doing. How old is the account?
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:10
- An age check shows you that their account is 0 days old. They seem to be walking around pretty clueless as to where they're going.
- Goret Today at 11:11
- I will firstly send them a PM to greets them and see if they are new to the server
- The game in general, my mistake
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:14
- They respond and indicate they are new to the game.
- Goret Today at 11:16
- Okay, so I will start them to explain that its a roleplay server, and like everything there is rules. I send a link to the rules page, and explain them that the actual name is not permitted since its the name of a In Real Life famous person
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:17
- Alright. What would you do if they didn't respond to you?
- Goret Today at 11:17
- Do they continue do move in-game?
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:17
- They do.
- Goret Today at 11:19
- I will make another attempt of PM by saying that I'm here to help them, and they will need to listen to me and actually respond to continue
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:20
- They still appear to be ignoring you.
- Goret Today at 11:20
- Alright, since they are ignoring me, I wind them and explain them again that they can't ignore me, and if they want to actually play, they will need to listen to me.
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:22
- They still don't respond to any of your PMs
- Goret Today at 11:23
- Are they still connected?
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:23
- They are.
- Goret Today at 11:23
- Is there staff online?
- Other than me
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:23
- There are a few other mods on and an admin
- Goret Today at 11:28
- I make a last attempt of PM by saying that they will be taken off the server if their attempt is to not play. On the other side, I will ask the admin online what could be necessary in this kind of situation. The player didn't attempted to minge, and was just walking around with a weird name
- Without responding to my PMs, of course
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:29
- A mod chimes in and says a ban would be placed on them at this point.
- Goret Today at 11:29
- Perma mod?
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:29
- The ban length is up to you
- Goret Today at 11:31
- If the player is still not responding, well I listen to what the mod said and apply a few days ban. Perhaps they will connect again, and see the big red message with the rules link and maybe read them this time.
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:31
- Very well, onto the next scenario?
- Goret Today at 11:31
- Ready
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:31
- You recieve an adminhelp from a player. The adminhelp is not very clear, and just states that they were permabrigged for no reason. How would you respond?
- Goret Today at 11:32
- I ghost and jump on the player, looking what is going on. I respond to the adminhelp by asking more details on what happened, from beggining to when they ended in the brig
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:35
- The player states they were just walking to their department when an officer came along and stun batonned them before cuffing them and taking them to security, they were told by the officer that they were being Held until Transfer before being put in a cell. The officer in question simply states they were following the head of security's orders, who appears to be cryo'd and logged out.
- Goret Today at 11:38
- Complicated. I PM the officer and simply ask them details about why they did this. I also check if the player in jail is an antag or not
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:41
- They state they were told to HuT the player by the HoS, who is now in cryo. None of security, nor the player are antagonists.
- Goret Today at 11:42
- Uuurgh. I check the combat logs to see if the player in the brig is involved in one of them.
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:43
- The only logs present are those produced by the officer stun cuffing them.
- Goret Today at 11:43
- If I see nothing wrong, well I will just tell the player that its a IC situation, and advise them to make an Incident Report on the forum about the officers.
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:44
- Is that all you want to add for that one?
- Goret Today at 11:46
- Yeah. If the HoS cryo'd and logged out, I can't really see what else I can do. Except taking a look at the players note.
- Since both parts are not antagonists, well it can be considered as canon and the player brigged can make an IR about it.
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:48
- Alrighty, next scenario: You and an admin are frequently online at the same time on deadhour. Nobody else is usually online on this time. You start to notice they have a habit of spawning weapons for themselves at round start, antagonist and not, as well as frequently reviving themselves and even winding people during combat to gain an advantage. What would you do?
- Goret Today at 11:49
- Wew. I take some screenshots without telling them and directly send them at the high staff, Abo and Garn.
- I avoid direct conflit with the admin to avoid getting into a shitfest.
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:50
- And if it was more minor? Like powergaming or possibly metagaming
- Goret Today at 11:52
- Well, I will maybe subtly ask them what are they doing and why
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:53
- So you'd essentially go through it as you would a player?
- Goret Today at 11:55
- Not really, since they are admin. I will simply just ask them without asking the details and let the head admins handle that. I got the proofs, so its okay, I guess(edited)
- House_Of_Synth Today at 11:56
- Gotcha, next scenario?
- Goret Today at 11:56
- Yep
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:00
- Right-o. Last scenario question, then we'll move onto the more server/rule based ones. Here it is: It's a round of mercenary. You suddenly recieve an ahelp from one of the mercs. Upon jumping over to them you notice that the Quartermaster (A regular on the server that you consider a friend) has armed themselves as best they can through ordered crates and materials. 2 of the mercs are dead, one is in crit bleeding out and the other (the one that sent the Ahelp) is still in combat, but is pretty close to going down. What do you do?
- Goret Today at 12:04
- Firstly, I answer the merc that I will look into it. I check the notes of the QM on a side, then I directly send a PM to the Quartermaster and ask them why is he killing mercenaries, and why did he took a weapon.
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:05
- The QM says he armed up when he heard about them just incase they came to cargo, which he said he needed to defend due to it's ability to order crates. The QM has one note from a year ago regarding minor powergaming
- Goret Today at 12:09
- I tell them that arming up against a trained team and fight them as a QM does not fall under a believable character, and mostly as powergaming. In the rules, is it advised that in this kind of situation, flee is the best thing to do. I also check if they got some damage or not
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:10
- They've taken some hits yeah. They seem understanding of what you've said and apologise.
- Goret Today at 12:12
- Alright. As they are listening to me, I tell them that I will not give them major actions and just put a simple warning. Since they are on the server for now a year or so, they should know the rules.
- I add a note as well to describe what happened.
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:14
- Gotcha, warnings have two sections by the way. One section the player sees and acknowledges. The second is a section only staff can see.
- Is that all you wanted to add for that scenario?
- Goret Today at 12:15
- Got it. I also PM the merc that the player has been talked to. Done
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:15
- Sweet. We now move onto the server/rule related questions. Here's the first: What's the role of roleplay on Aurora? What is it? How should we enforce it? What standard of roleplay should all players be at? These are some examples of points you could cover, if you think of anymore then the more the better.
- Goret Today at 12:47
- For me, roleplay have its own definition in everyone. From my point of view, roleplay is a way to tell the story of your character. On Aurora, since its a Spaceman 2D game, people are excepted to play their job and be In-Character as must as they can and play along the mechanics of the game without abusing of them, such as an Engineer making a steel and starting to chase mercenaries. If their character are in pain, they are excepted to transmit it by their actions, and not rush in like nothing could stop them. That's why there is rules to help to enforce them, somehow
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:48
- Ready for the next one?
- Goret Today at 12:48
- Yep
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:48
- Right-o, similar one here: What's the role of action on Aurora. What's gank, where's the balance between RP and murder? What is the role and purpose of antags and how much should they be able to do?
- Goret Today at 12:51
- Gank is simply just rushing at someone and kill them, without any roleplay behind it. Antags are supposed to share a story to the players and make interaction with them, they are what (In case of not extended) make a round fun, or make it entertaining. A simple murder is not fun, and do not share any stories except "killd u lol". Of course, there is some exceptions
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:51
- Anything else to add?
- Goret Today at 12:51
- Nope
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:52
- Alrighty. What are the current issues with the server/community? If any.
- Goret Today at 12:59
- I don't see much problems with the server or the community I could think of right now
- House_Of_Synth Today at 12:59
- Aye aye. Similar one: What are the current issues with the staff? If any.
- Goret Today at 13:00
- Nothing to say about the staff, they are all great
- House_Of_Synth Today at 13:00
- Last one! How do you think people percieve you as a player at the present time?
- Goret Today at 13:05
- I never had problems with others on the server, nor they had with me. Players might see me as someone friendly and who's chill most of the time
- House_Of_Synth Today at 13:05
- Fair enough. In that case that's it! Would you mind having your interview posted on your application or would you rather it just be kept within the staff loop?
- Goret Today at 13:06
- I don't mind it being posted
