  1. 203 charged at him.
  2. 428 didn't move. Well, hardly moved. Just a single digit, waggling somewhere near 203's shoulder as she swept down onto him.
  3. Prisoner 203 suddenly slid to the floor with a groan.
  4. 'You're lucky,' 428 stood over her. 'I don't use Venusian Aikido much these days. And rarely on ladies. Not as a rule. But then again–' a wink– 'You're no lady.'
  5. 203's eyes sprang open, glaring at him. She struggled to get up.

  9. 203 sprang to her feet, snarling.
  10. And then, strangely, slid to the floor again.
  11. This time she did not get up.
  12. 'That was more of a tap, really,' 428 muttered sheepishly.

  16. 428 helped 203 up. 'Her name is Abesse,' he informed Donaldson, 'and I'm afraid she's a little shaken up.' Abese was leaning woozily against a wall. 'Do be careful with her. Her inner ear is temporarily a little off so you'll find her sense of balance won't answer questions for a day or so.'
