All Men are Nazis

<+Suncloud> The smugness with which they slaughter animals and say, It's all good
<+Suncloud> I get they're at a lower ethical level, but it's really horrendous to deal with
<+Suncloud> It's like encountering somebody that is for slavery
<+Suncloud> And you try to construct these ethical arguments using modern sociology and biology to show why slavery is wrong
<+Suncloud> And they just look at you, 'Having slaves is useful, though'
<+Suncloud> And you can genuinely tell that is the entirety of their depth on this issue
<+Suncloud> And no amount of political science or anthropology will ever make the slightest dent in their beliefs
<+Suncloud> It's really disturbing
<+Suncloud> I get that for you non-vegetarians out there you may not feel that, and that's okay
<+Suncloud> But it is truly disturbing
<+Suncloud> Why is it disturbing
<+Suncloud> You realize that there is only a very thin veneer of civilization on most people
<+Suncloud> And the real reason that most people aren't for just genociding other humans, or throwing them refugee camps, or enslaving them and their children is because current civilization says 'Don't do that'

<+Suncloud> Sure, they'll mimic the messages taught to them by their civilization, about how it's wrong, and they'll regurgitate reasons they don't really know or believe in
<+Suncloud> But, you scrape past that veneer, you put them in a situation in which they're not legally obligated or socially shamed into not being a destroyer of lives, and they'll just about do anything they damn well please to other living things
<+Suncloud> And you realize that civilization is really being driven and pushed by a very small portion of our species
<+Suncloud> And the rest are just along for the ride, never being better than society allows them to be
<+Suncloud> It is pretty likely protection of animals will extend in the next centuries
<+Suncloud> Assuming there isn't a collapse of civilization
<+Suncloud> And people will look back on these times as we look back on slavery days
<+Suncloud> Make the connection
<+Suncloud> Be somebody who your descendants will be proud of
<+Suncloud> Who they can say, My great great great grandp was way ahead of his times
<+Suncloud> He was against slavery even in 1740. Even then he knew it was wrong. I'm proud of my great great great grandpa
