[2013-10-15 16:26:07] <Falconis> Your first night in China has gone far from what you expected.General Lei, the glorious strategist, he who has rent 1000 men asunder, rides slightly ahead of you as you make your journey 'north'. The man of two cultures, Chinese silks draped over a neat western suit remains silent for the first part of your journey, the playboy emolga 'Chu' sitting on his shoulder without a care in the world.

[2013-10-15 16:26:07] <Falconis> It may have been an hour, or two, perhaps a half since you began your journey and you have left the bright lights of Beijing behind, plunging into the darkness of the chinese grasslands, only the occasional spark from a zebstrika's hooves lending light to the landscape.
  5. [2013-10-15 16:26:46] <Falconis> Your own mount is restless, clearly unsatisfied with it's rider, but follows a back it has been following for years without making too much of a fuss

  7. [2013-10-15 16:29:53] <Falconis> After journeying in silence for quite some time, general Lei speaks up [Lei]"What's your name kid?"
  8. [2013-10-15 16:30:45] <Jay> Jay follows silently, Tails curled around his neck, wondering if he's riding himself to his ignominous death. The Buizel looks up at the start of conversation and Jay responds, "Smith. Jay Smith."
  9. [2013-10-15 16:32:18] <Falconis> "Smith? Sounds like an American G man. How long have you been working for the diplomat?"
  10. [2013-10-15 16:34:41] <Jay> Jay chuckles, "Yeah, it's a little non-descript. And not very long. Me and a few others came over today to help out and to get introduced to the Imperial court at the banquet."
  11. [2013-10-15 16:35:06] <Jay> He pauses, wondering how much information the General is privy, and decides to ask. "Have you heard about Diplomat Yuu?"

  13. [2013-10-15 16:37:51] <Falconis> The general pauses as his mount leaps over a bush in the darkness "The late senior diplomat? Yes, a regrettable turn of events. I'd wished to speak with him"

  15. [2013-10-15 16:39:32] <Falconis> "It isn't enough, but..."

  17. [2013-10-15 16:40:41] <Jay> Jay blinks at the news of the execution, deciding to restrain himself from making accusations about anything in the future.
  18. [2013-10-15 16:42:24] <Jay> "Yes, quite regrettable," he says after a moment. "I only hope his heart is put to rest, with the man that did so."
  19. [2013-10-15 16:45:25] <Falconis> Lei grunts his assent
  20. [2013-10-15 16:46:13] <Falconis> "So you said you had some questions"
  21. [2013-10-15 16:50:27] <Jay> "...well, right now, I'm just wondering where we're going," Jay admits.
  22. [2013-10-15 16:52:27] <Falconis> "Heh, Didn't we have a wager about Russian soldiers on the field"
  23. [2013-10-15 16:52:45] <Falconis> "You owe me 3 acres of land if I win you know"
  24. [2013-10-15 16:54:13] <Falconis> "So of course, we're going to check it out"

  26. [2013-10-15 16:57:16] <Jay> Jay looks blankly at Lei's back for a moment, and starts to chuckle. He laughs harder after a moment and says, "Of course. But you know, they don't pay us aides anywhere near that much. How about I give you a story instead?"

  28. [2013-10-15 16:57:49] <Falconis> "Better be a damn good story"
  29. [2013-10-15 16:59:28] <Falconis> The Zebstrika slow down slightly as the plains turn into foothills, but in comparison to a man, the ground is still just a blur
  30. [2013-10-15 19:03:41] <Jay> "I'll do my best," Jay responds. He rides in silence for a moment then asks, "General Lei, we need your help. The Empire's, the Empress' - and your's. I don't know what the Russians have said, offered or promised - they only want you to join them. And personally, I don't trust a Russian half as far as I can throw them."
  31. [2013-10-15 19:03:48] <Jay> "Without the Empire's help, you may be right. The Russians might win. But the Empire of Qui has the power to decide this conflict, and I think you'll find us a lot more grateful than the ruskies." Jay pauses and takes a breath.

  33. [2013-10-15 19:04:46] <Jay> "We don't need a lot...a blind eye to troop movements or supply lines would be enough for us to bring the war to them," he says then smiles to himself. "Although, a man with half a million heads to his name would be useful too."

  35. [2013-10-15 19:12:20] <Falconis> [General Lei]"You say we have the power to decide this war. In that you are correct, but there's more to it than that. To face the Russians would bring heavy casualties, and earn us an enemy in a bordering nation. Even, as you say, simply allowing you through our lands would bring the war to China, endangering the lives of our people"
  36. [2013-10-15 19:13:36] <Falconis> "Why then would we do that, when we could join with a stronger, neighboring country, and crush the american forces that have no foothold in the land here?

  38. [2013-10-15 19:20:57] <Jay> "Because the Russians won't be satisfied with just Western Europe. They won't be satisfied with just Europe. If they finish their assault, how long do you think it is before they turn to you? The Empire of Qui is their only threat in landsize, in people, and in force. They won't ignore you forever."
  39. [2013-10-15 19:21:10] <Jay> "We don't want the lives of your people, your pokemon, or your land. We just want the Russians to give back everyone else's."
  40. [2013-10-15 19:23:37] <Falconis> Lei rides in silence for a few minutes, Zebstrika steadily eating up the land with it's strides
  41. [2013-10-15 19:25:06] <Falconis> He straightens his back in the saddle and pulls his cape closer around him
  42. [2013-10-15 19:25:23] <Falconis> [Lei]"Stay close to me, we are approaching the Abyss"
  43. [2013-10-15 19:26:23] <Jay> Jay squeezes the Zebstrika with his legs and urges it closer, until he's almost in line with General Lei.
  44. [2013-10-15 19:27:31] <Falconis> The Zebstrika clear the foothills, suddenly on a grassless plain stretching as far as you can see. General Lei clicks his tongue and the Zebstrika drifts to the right.

  49. [2013-10-15 19:30:48] <Falconis> You feel something you can't properly identify. It reminds you of times you crept through the darkness outside enemy safehouses, dodging sentries. Something beckons to you in the night, but the dark veil does not lift. You cannot identify it
  50. [2013-10-15 19:31:40] <Falconis> You are not given a chance to examine the feeling further, as your Zebstrika starts going down a steep slope where there was none, walls of stone rising up beside you like magic
  51. [2013-10-15 19:32:06] <Falconis> General Lei plunges before you, back straight reins held in one hand while the other holds his pipe
  52. [2013-10-15 19:33:48] <Falconis> You both continue to ride deeping into the earth, the occasional sparks from the zebstrika the only light you have. You can barely make out smooth stone walls with pools of darkness blotting out your senses every now and again
  53. [2013-10-15 19:33:56] <Falconis> And suddenly there is light
  54. [2013-10-15 19:35:14] <Falconis> You make a turn, in the path and a wave of hot air blasts you in the face at the same time the sanguine light washes across you
  55. [2013-10-15 19:36:47] <Falconis> and you can see, you are in a tunnel going down, down and down. Heavy stone slabs with holes in them at regular intervals form the walls and floor of the tunnel you ride on
  56. [2013-10-15 19:37:25] <Falconis> The ground is scratched and pitted with ridges both man made for easier riding and signs of heavy use
  57. [2013-10-15 19:37:56] <Falconis> [Lei]"We're going under, it's not the fastest way but... I don't feel like getting shot at today"
  58. [2013-10-15 19:39:18] <Jay> "I don't mind getting shot at, it's when they don't miss I object," Jay returns, glancing at the stone around them.
  59. [2013-10-15 19:40:51] <Falconis> The tunnel opens up into a wide underground cavern. No, wide isn't adequate to describe it. A yawning, wide expanse that makes you feel as if the sky has come down to earth and waits to fall upon you somewhere in the darkness of the ceiling. The stone floor turns into a wooden bridge as you ride over a section of the abyss.
  60. [2013-10-15 19:41:17] <Falconis> You approach a gate manned by 4 guards in resplendent red and gold armour
  61. [2013-10-15 19:42:27] <Falconis> Lei looks at them as he advances, showing no sign of slowing at all. The men at the gate open it without challenge and you both ride through unmolested as the gate is swung shut behind you
  62. [2013-10-15 19:43:19] <Falconis> More soldiers are on this side, standing in readiness for action at any given time, perhaps two dozen more
  63. [2013-10-15 19:44:08] <Falconis> Lei continues riding at his normal pace, his Zebstrika showing masterful control as the path once again turns to stone and swings downward
  64. [2013-10-15 19:45:02] <Falconis> The air becomes hotter and beads of sweat run across your body as you continue, if Lei is feeling it in his suit and cape, he doesn't show, but there's no way he isn't sweating under all that
  65. [2013-10-15 19:45:30] <Falconis> After about a minute more of riding, the path levels out once again, and you see what was making you so hot
  66. [2013-10-15 19:46:38] <Falconis> A glowing river of magma, hundreds of meters wide is laid out before you. Fire pokemon of all kinds patrol the edges, occasionally blasting it with their flames as directed by armoured handlers..
  67. [2013-10-15 19:48:13] <Falconis> Slugma and Magcargo swim through the lava, feeding on it's heat and heating it in turn and powerful looking charizard glide on the hot air rising up from the furnace of the earth, throwing streams of flame down at will.
  68. [2013-10-15 19:48:32] <Falconis> It is only upon reaching this point, that Lei finally slows to a stop
  69. [2013-10-15 19:48:47] <Falconis> [Lei]"Know how to swim kid?"
  70. [2013-10-15 19:50:09] <Falconis> >_
  71. [2013-10-15 19:50:38] <Jay> "...Alright, if this is like the 'Know how to ride?' question, I'm just gonna say no from now," Jay says, looking at the molten rock.
  72. [2013-10-15 19:50:54] <Jay> "I've got to say, though, this is one hell of a moat."
  73. [2013-10-15 19:51:49] <Jay> Tails shrinks back from the heat, somewhat uncomfortable in the underground oven.
  74. [2013-10-15 19:51:52] <Falconis> Lei chuckles and takes a draw from his pipe "A thing of beauty isn't it?" he mutters releasing smoke in a crazy spiral from his lips
  75. [2013-10-15 19:52:35] <Falconis> "Anyway, we'll be crossing this momentarily, so it'd be wize for you to recall your pokemon, mount too"
  76. [2013-10-15 19:53:15] <Falconis> Lei hops off his Zebstrika and lands softly on the ground. He pats it on the head and then recalls it whispering "see you soon friend"
  77. [2013-10-15 19:55:26] <Falconis> A man in a black hazard suit with the mark of Qui emblazoned on the back in shining red font jogs up to you as you dismount.
  78. [2013-10-15 19:56:05] <Falconis> [Black suit]"General Lei, we were not expecting you. General Huo has not returned as yet"
  79. [2013-10-15 19:56:42] <Falconis> [Lei]"Of course not, you think that slowpoke could beat me here? We two are going over, prepare the ride"
  80. [2013-10-15 19:57:53] <Falconis> [Black suit]"I'm sorry sir, but without the generals authorization-"
  81. [2013-10-15 19:58:55] <Falconis> Lei turns and faces the man and looks at him with eyes sterner than you have yet witnessed on his face. [Lei]"Am I not a General of this country? Let me pass. Where I go I go with the will of the empress"
  82. [2013-10-15 20:00:03] <Falconis> You can't see his face, but the man in black nods quickly and produces a reflective piece of cloth from a pocket in the suit
  83. [2013-10-15 20:04:35] <Falconis> He waves it above his head in practiced motions and two charizard break away from moat patrol and glide over to your position
  84. [2013-10-15 20:04:54] <Falconis> They land with a powerful gust of hot air and flank you
  85. [2013-10-15 20:08:43] <Jay> Jay holds his hat down against the breeze and dismounts, Tails clinging to the jacket against the sudden gale. He pats the Zebstrika and murmurs his thanks, before recalling it and ushering Tails into the inside of the jacket.
  86. [2013-10-15 20:37:50] <Falconis> Lei's face remains stern as he grabs onto a charizards shoulder and pulls himself unto it's back

  96. [2013-10-15 20:40:48] <Falconis> Whatever his response was is lost in the sound of rushing wind and powerful wingbeats
  97. [2013-10-15 20:41:38] <Falconis> The charizard climb into the air, meters at a time, wings straining for altitude and then extend them to glide in a smooth arc above the river of lava
  98. [2013-10-15 20:42:37] <Falconis> The sky, sparkling with the first streaks of sunlight shows it's face for the first time in ages as you glide across the expanse of the not-quite-abyss
  99. [2013-10-15 20:43:28] <Falconis> The walls confuse your senses with their sheer immensity leaving you unable to gauge just how deep you really are
  100. [2013-10-15 20:44:22] <Falconis> minutes pass above the magma as the charizard glide on the hot air to the other side. Your legs feel extremely warm, as if you were sitting by a furnace
  101. [2013-10-15 20:46:08] <Falconis> soon and not soon enough, the charizard touch down on the other side and flex their wings. A patrolling charizard bellows a greeting to the two who carried you across, and they roar in response
  102. [2013-10-15 20:47:12] <Falconis> Lei slides off the back of his mount and touches down with a woosh of air, cape billowing out behind him. Another man in a black suit jogs up and Lei beings speaking to him
  103. [2013-10-15 20:47:31] <Jay> Jay slides off the back of the Charizard, and stretches his cramping legs out.
  104. [2013-10-15 20:48:20] <Falconis> The man in black jogs off and soon returns with...cart
  105. [2013-10-15 20:49:37] <Falconis> Two powerful looking rapidash are bound to the front. As they arrive the charizard that carried you over lunge into the air and soar back over to their positions
  106. [2013-10-15 20:50:05] <Falconis> Lei climbs into the carriage and settles himself "We have a long ride ahead of us, take this chance to relax a bit"
  107. [2013-10-15 20:51:34] <Jay> Jay climbs in after him, and cracks his neck. "And I thought we had a long ride behind us," he responds.
  108. [2013-10-15 20:52:09] <Jay> "Still," he adds, thinking back to the last mission, "It's better than the last place I was. It was very...wet."
  109. [2013-10-15 20:52:50] <Falconis> "Oh?" he inquires as the cart moves off, rapidash pulling at speeds far beyond the zebstrika were managing
  110. [2013-10-15 20:55:43] <Jay> "Yes," Jay says, wondering how to make this less of a security risk. "The wildlife didn't really like us, the water was everywhere, and...well, I'm not exactly fond of Golduck anymore."
  111. [2013-10-15 20:58:02] <Falconis> Lei looks curious but says nothing in response as the Rapidash approach a gate mirroring the one on the other side
  112. [2013-10-15 20:58:26] <Falconis> He shouts to a passing soldier [Lei]"I need a glaive"
  113. [2013-10-15 20:58:57] <Falconis> without missing a beat the soldier tosses his own weapon into the general's waiting hands and Lei nods in satisfaction
  114. [2013-10-15 20:59:53] <Falconis> The rapidash do not slow as they go across the bridge over the section of abyss and instead pick up speed now that they have a clear path ahead of them
  115. [2013-10-15 21:01:42] <Falconis> In a fraction of the time it took you to ride down on the Zebstrika the rapidash have burst out into the morning air and set off at a sprint (can horses sprint) without hesitation
  116. [2013-10-15 21:01:48] <Falconis> they clearly know where they are going
  117. [2013-10-15 21:01:58] <Falconis> or they don't and you're screwed
  118. [2013-10-15 21:02:36] <Falconis> Either way, Lei does not try and direct them, and there is no driver, instead he examines the edge of his new weapons

  120. [2013-10-15 21:03:12] <Falconis> "So, now that we are alone"
  121. [2013-10-15 21:04:10] <Falconis> "You aren't just a diplomat aren't you."

  123. [2013-10-15 21:06:05] <Jay> Jay smiles and tilts his head. "What do you mean?" he asks. "I told you earlier I'd spend time on a battlefield, but..." Jay trails off non-committally.
  124. [2013-10-15 21:08:45] <Falconis> Lei spins the glaive in his hands with practiced motion "You don't move like a diplomat. No diplomat I've ever met rides so smoothly, and no diplomat I've ever met would just ride along while we went over national borders into enemy territory"
  125. [2013-10-15 21:13:01] <Jay> Jay chuckles to himself. "Yes, well...Legacy of a misspent youth," he responds. "Although, I suppose you have me on that second one. Maybe I just value the opportunity more than myself?"
  126. [2013-10-15 21:14:00] <Jay> "But I think you had a..." Jay glances at the polearm in the General's hands. "...point you were trying to make. Please."

  128. [2013-10-15 21:15:10] <Falconis> Lei follows your eyes and exhales in amusement "Don't worry, im not going to hurt you. I can't say anything for the wilds though"
  129. [2013-10-15 21:18:07] <Jay> "Believe me, I forced my way into and through enough traps to be a lot less afraid about walking into them," Jay says. "But, wilds?"
  130. [2013-10-15 21:18:18] <Jay> "Anything of note I should look out for?"
  131. [2013-10-15 21:19:20] <Falconis> General Lei rolls his shoulders and settles more comfortably against the side of the cart
  132. [2013-10-15 21:20:20] <Falconis> "We'll be traveling through east Mongol, there are a lot of smaller pokemon, doduo packs can disembowel a man in the blink of an eye and Ryhorn, well, don't run into them"
  133. [2013-10-15 21:22:57] <Falconis> "Then, into russia, where the trees themselves may try and kill you, but don't worry. Nothing you can't handle im sure"

  135. [2013-10-15 21:26:33] <Jay> Jay sighs, lamenting the absence of his knives and his trusty lookout in Specs. "General Lei," he asks, changing tracks, "Won't the Empress need you at court?"
  136. [2013-10-15 21:28:24] <Falconis> He smirks "If she summons me I will return, but the generals are not expected to remain at court"
  137. [2013-10-15 21:28:47] <Falconis> "My men remain in my place in any case, I am certain they will be able to handle any issue"

  139. [2013-10-15 21:30:38] <Jay> (Yeeeees? What are we continuing?)

  143. [2013-10-15 21:32:18] <Falconis> The rapidash continue on, eating up the ground as the sun continues it's lazy trek across the sky. In due time the rapidash come to a large boulder that has been split in two and halt beside it. Lei hops out and releases his Zebstrika "We're on our own from this point, so stay alert"

  147. [2013-10-15 21:35:34] <Falconis> Lei hops on and continues north as the rapidash cart turns and heads back the other way

  164. [2013-10-15 21:41:27] <Falconis> pidgey fly to the north, circling some poor creature that you can't identify
  165. [2013-10-15 21:43:01] <Falconis> You continue on, across the grasslands
  166. [2013-10-15 21:43:47] <Falconis> Zigzagoon and minccino scrape for a living among the scrub, staying out of the way of the fierce rattata
  167. [2013-10-15 21:44:18] <Falconis> a raticate savages a glameow, turning the tables on the traditional view, one bite at a time
  168. [2013-10-15 21:45:31] <Falconis> A lone Camerupt wanders ponderously across the grasslands, eating whatever it pleases as the smaller pokemon are unable to stop it
  169. [2013-10-15 21:46:18] <Falconis> The air takes a stark chill and the dirt becomes even drier as you continue north
  170. [2013-10-15 21:46:42] <Falconis> Lei changes your path slightly, heading east into a coniferous forest
  171. [2013-10-15 21:46:56] <Jay> "General, how often do you make this trip?"
  172. [2013-10-15 21:47:31] <Falconis> The general takes a draw on his pipe and exhales while answering "First time"
  173. [2013-10-15 21:49:23] <Falconis> Your mounts are forced to slow down a bit to get around the trees giving you a better view of the surroundings
  174. [2013-10-15 21:50:00] <Falconis> Many of the smaller pokemon you saw before thrive in here, where the larger pokemon have a hard time
  175. [2013-10-15 21:50:22] <Falconis> A vulpix and a minccio chase a butterfree while making excited yips
  176. [2013-10-15 21:55:29] <Falconis> You continue on, bursting out of the forest into snow covered ground
