  1. “Some people say life isn’t exciting enough. I used to feel that way, until a rip in the fabric of space and time stranded me in the future. You know, I’ve started to miss all the normal things I used to take for granted.”
  2.
  3. During a solar storm over the city of Tokyo, just moments after a massive loss of power took place, a student was inexplicably warped through time.
  4.
  5. Arriving some centuries into the future, this stranded, outdated boy would have to find a place for himself in a similar yet frighteningly foreign world. All the people he knew? Dead. The areas in which he had grown up? Demolished and restructured. With nothing but his wits and the clothes on his back, this ‘student’ would have to decide which step to take next.
  6.
  7. His goal was a simple one; Kayo wanted to return home. He would take any steps necessary to see his family again, and so, naive as he was, Kayo decided it made the most sense to seek out the police first — or whatever passed for law enforcement in this time. Long story short, Kayo was placed in a high-security transport vehicle headed for the capital — he was to be interrogated, although he was under the assumption that it was simply ‘questioning’.
  8.
  9. Had Kayo gone with them, had he answered the questions they so desperately wanted answers to, his story likely would have ended there. Time-travel was the new nuclear arms race, and Kayo had been affected by some unknown particle during his jump. Had they been able to properly analyze this substance, well…
  10.
  11. It doesn’t really matter now, because the vehicle never reached its destination. Expecting military secrets or weapons of great value, those who captured Kayo were disappointed to find a boy who knew next to nothing about why he was in a high-security transport vehicle to begin with. Or so he had said — carefully leaving out any mention of time-travel.
  12.
  13. That had been one year ago — rather than kill him, the rebels had taken him in, and given him a place in their ranks. While Kayo learned a lot from them, including the art of using many complex forms of combat and espionage technology, their time together wouldn’t last. Taking all the knowledge about this world that he could from them, Kayo left one night without a word — he appreciated what they’d done for him, and promised to repay them one day, but he refused to remain tied to their cause. His aspirations laid elsewhere.
  14.
  15. “I don’t care how dangerous it is, or how impossible you think it is, just give me a price that’ll make it worth my time. ”
  16.
  17. Assuming the persona ‘Anima’, Kayo put every ounce of his creativity and talent into inventing, using every second of his spare time to study and experiment with whatever tech he could get his hands on. Rather than reject the unknown, he became infatuated with it, embraced it. Kayo’s genius was soon apparent, and the boy didn’t take long to find uses for his new equipment.
  18.
  19. Hacker, tinkerer, master thief and occasional prostitute with favored customers, by the age of eighteen Anima had become a name known to all within the world of crime, and even some shady corners of the business world. Whether one needed something built, something stolen, or even information only government executives were privy too, they could seek him out and expect to have it done.
  20.
  21. A jack of all trades, in one year Kayo had gone from being a nobody to being one of the most expensive, well-known yet puzzlingly mysterious criminals of the decade. Avoiding the law and making money comes naturally to him, but it only takes one misstep for everything to fall apart.
  22.
  23. —— Personality ——
  24.
  25. While Kayo used to be the meek, quiet sort who kept to himself, donning a mask and a new name gave him the chance to start over. A newfound sense of security and confidence, one could call it. Now, his uncertainty or even fear could be interpreted as enigmatic and silent to those he deals with, the eery glow of his mask hiding any and all expressions or emotions. Intimidation comes easily, and with his gadgets and proficiency in martial arts, he has the strength to back it up. Without fear of embarrassment, Kayo found himself to be equally capable of seduction and soft, honey-soaked words as well. Whether through fear, force, or charisma, there isn’t much Anima can’t accomplish.
  26.
  27. —— Setting——
  28.
  29. Welcome to the future! Or, rather, that’s what nobody had told Kayo upon his abrupt arrival. An anomaly had gripped Kayo and thrust him into another time, a time where nano-robotics, interstellar colonization, and hover-cars were referred to as ‘old tech’ by the younger generations. To put it simply, it was the beginning of a new movement within the human race — a technological revolution of sorts, but ramped up — one set of technologies being replaced by another within days.
  30.
  31. This, of course, gave way to new and frightening forms of terrorism. From biological warfare to artificial intelligence and satellite cannons, the risks have grown just as much as the benefits. Unsurprisingly, political situations are no less complex and much more volatile, with corruption prevalent in all corners.
  32.
  33. Additionally, colonizing planets means claiming more land, establishing new governments, and setting down more boundaries — and with this comes infinitely more problems.
  34.
  35. ——Anima’s one rule of service——
  36.
  37. Kayo has one primary rule that he will never break. Despite the dangers of the world he now lives in, Kayo does his best to avoid taking the lives of others. As such, Anima will never accept a job requiring him to kill another directly. If he is hired to guide someone to eliminate a target, he will do just that — but he will not be the one to kill said target. If he is forced into combat, Kayo will always aim to neutralize the threat in a way that does not result in a loss of life. This being said, Anima has no qualms about leaving people unconscious.
  38.
  39. ——Diversity of Scene——
  40.
  41. As with any inventor, new creations are prone to failure; Kayo’s are no exception. Backfires and malfunctions are bound to occur, but what about the substance still clinging to his DNA that warped him through time in the first place? If one of his inventions happens to react negatively with this dormant substance, there’s a chance Kayo could yet again slip through time and space — ending up in any time period, in any dimension, or on any world. Such an event could possibly even overload his equipment and render it useless, if he survives.
  42.
  43.
  44. (Kayo may also be played prior to the time-jump, as a student in modern-time — or can be made to fit another scene.)
