  1. Final Fantasy IX Speedrun Leaderboard Requirements Vote 2019
  2.
  3. Hey, Everyone--Muttski here!
  4.
  5. After our community had a pretty at-length discussion inquiring about some change regarding pre-run setup for VoD recording and submission to the leaderboards, we hosted a vote which I've provided the make-up for in this paste. It may be obvious to say, but not everyone's option won the vote, and I would genuinely appreciate adult-like behavior regarding whatever response you may have to the choice that was most voted moving forward.

  14. I. The Vote Breakdown
  15.
  16. Here is the percentage makeup of all votes we received from the community members:
  17. 41.1% - Force hard reset every attempt, physically flicking the power switch (More depth below in section II)
  18. 35.2% - Show power on in the vod and highlight, allow soft resets
  19. 23.5% - No change

  23. II. What Is The Rule Now?
  24.
  25. Everyone submitting to the leaderboard, moving forward must show proof of a hard reset of their console at the start of each run attempt and include the PS2 startup in the VoD in order for their run to be accepted and verified by a moderator. It is up to the runner if s/he chooses to either completely power off the console or simply flick the power switch for the slightly faster hard reset--in both instances, the startup screen will appear at least momentarily. The power off option will require the runner to re-establish Fast Disc Speed on the BIOS home screen options.

  29. III. When Do I Need To Make The Change?
  30.
  31. We're allowing a ten-day grace period which will end on June 22nd, 2019 in order to give people over a week to find exposure to the rule change, make the necessary adjustments for any runs they submit moving forward, and hopefully enjoy a smooth transition into what should be a very minor adjustment for runners. (Like...for real...lightly poking a button is nothing compared to the 10,000 X and Square mashes you're about to embark on.)
  32.
  33. Runs dated June 23rd, 2019 and beyond will all require the hard reset/power on to begin their run VoD to be considered for the leaderboard. This will be a hard rule and runners will be denied and asked to resubmit any PBs received that do not show this step.

  37. IV. Who Can I Complain To About Not Getting What I Wanted?
  38.
  39. No.

  42. Thanks everyone who participated in the vote or just in the discussion. Again, try to keep any response to the rule change and implementation civil and friendly. Not everyone's choice won, and it's going to require a very small amount of humility and understanding. It is not, however, difficult to be mature in the face of change that is intended to create a more clear rule set for the FFIX leaderboard.
