  1. brians: Of course molesters care whether they're legally supposed to be in a given bathroom. And if there's a complaint, the cops care about the line between "stop hanging around there" and "you're under arrest."

  3. The proposed changes are likely to increase certain kinds of abuse from extremely rare to merely very rare. They are likely to have problems around high schools. Nonetheless, separate-but-equal is as wrong here as it has been everywhere else, and we should stop it here too. My answer to that is unisex bathrooms, single-occupancy if that's what's wanted, and unisex locker rooms, in the expectation that this will desexualize changing sweaty clothes. But---it's not like I'm personally going to suffer any pain as a result of that.

  5. sparrow_: Ok brians please find me a non-hypothetical incident of a gender nonconforming person in a bathroom, locker room, or similar who leered at, harassed, or molested anybody. Ideally, this troublemaker should have been a masculine looking person in female designated space, i.e. the molester who is "a man in the women's room."

  7. As far as I know, the described event has no documented non-fiction cases. What we have instead are a lot of cases of visibly gender nonconforming people attempting to do their business and get out being stopped in restrooms by concerned citizens. Sometimes the concerned citizens believe we're in the wrong room because we're confused, and are trying to help. Sometimes the concerned citizens believe we pose a threat and/or are present in order to molest people, and do things like harass, assault, or call law enforcement in response.

  9. It seems to me that the second kind of thing happens in part because people think the first isn't a myth - that is, because transmisogyny means transfeminine people are seen as invasive and predatory despite available evidence.
