The Story So Far:  Gambier Bay, Commandant Teste, and Tashkent learned of a "legendary bar" that once operated on base. Through  many twists and turns, they got Ark Royal, who is familiar with the old bar, to recognize their efforts and energy and guide them directly. In order to become first-rate bartenders and create a place on the naval base to relax and refresh, the three of them begin the day-to-day of their newest challenge...!

Tash: Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
So she asked us to come back with a list of things we wanted to learn.

Coma: But there's so much we want to know.

Ark: This was the whiskey presented to King George VI, the first reigning King of Britain to visit Canada.

Ark: Canada is one of the five largest producers of whiskey in the world,
along with Japan, America, Scotland, and Ireland.
Their primary production method is to blend rye and corn whiskeys.

Ark: The result is mellow and thus relatively easy to drink.
We'll use Crown Royal, which is particularly smooth with a good aroma,
to make our cocktail.

almost a little bittersweet.)

Gamby: (And even while we were waiting for it, watching Ark Royal-san's technique was an experience in and of itself.
And it was done right after we ordered it.)

Gamby: (We made Pola-san wait so long...)

Ark: A Manhattan consists of rye whiskey,
or a bourbon or Canadian whiskey.
Sweet vermouth and aromatic bitters are added, and then the drink is stirred.

Ark: Among cocktails, this has quite a long history, so many variations have emerged.
The name changes along with the cocktail base and the added fruit.
Even leaving the base, changing the sweet vermouth for dry and using an olive makes it a Dry Manhattan.
If you reduce the amount of whiskey and use both sweet and dry vermouth, you get a Perfect Manhattan.

Gamby: ...

Ark: To build a cocktail, you add the ingredients directly to a glass of ice.
You've made gin and tonics, yes?
That's a built cocktail, made by adding ice, gin, and tonic water into a glass and mixing.
[Bar spoon]

Ark: The method I used to make the Manhattan just now was stirring.
Easily mixed ingredients are mixed while chilled.
If you don't mix them well, the ice will break apart, and your cocktail will be diluted.

Ark: Unlike stirring, shaking can be used for ingredients that are harder to mix.
The Blue Lady Gambier Bay made had egg whites, so it had to be shaken.
If you don't mix quickly, the ice will melt and you will again have a diluted cocktail.
That said, while you must mix fast, you must also be careful to mix the ingredients together well.
