So first off, there is the ridiculous premise suggested here: that there are so many poor because there are billionaires. As if the entire economy is one finite pie, and they’re just hogging it all to themselves. But I’m not even going to get into that. Let’s talk about these evil billionaires.
Let’s ignore the fact that they already pay taxes. Let’s also ignore that they don’t have billions sitting in a checking account, and that most of their “wealth” is tied up in assets. And let’s also ignore that they (most of them) donate millions to charities and employ thousands of people. Let’s bleed the evil bastards!
Okay so how much should we take away and give to the poor? A million dollars? Two million? Not enough...how about 5? No, double that! $10,000,000. Let’s take 10 million from every billionaire...surely they can come up with that without laying anyone off. So 10 million times 492 divided by 16 million = $307.50. Huh... that barely covers a month of groceries.
Taking people’s money is not the answer. Creating opportunities is the answer. Instead of throwing up strawmen, to whip up the proletariat and get you re-elected, how about discussing what would give people the opportunity to better themselves? That would be a conversation worth having...
