Santoro tore the weapon from the man with such force that the soldier fell and struck his head on the pipe rail. Santoro snapped the grenade into place, turned, steadied the stock against his shoulder, and fired. The grenade shot into the air, trailing a serpentine coil of dense gray smoke. The DMS pilot banked hard to try and avoid it but he was a second too late and Santoro’s round slammed into the Hydra rocket pod. The massive explosion punched the helicopter sideways in the air. As its flaming mass fell, Santoro saw the faces of the crew catch fire. It struck the wall eighty feet away.
