  1. I got asked about this over dinner by friends who would like it to be a good enough answer. It forced me to be specific about my objections, and I realized that they are all based on assumptions about how the thing will be implemented. So I guess I have to admit that it could be made to help if certain conditions are met. Those conditions focus on the civil liberties and social inclusion of the target consumers of this campus' services.
  2.
  3. What I fear is a concentration camp which will be physically and socially isolated from the rest of the city, and for which residence will not be voluntary. Nobody should be forced into it.
  4.
  5. No sweeps with cops trashing people's possessions and then dumping the people at the "campus". No involuntary arrivals. Ample free shuttle service to downtown. No sit/lie or son of son of sit/lie. No urban cleansing.
  6.
  7. I much prefer the approach of distributed, self-governing tiny house communities with central settlement houses.
  8.
  9. I don't think this would be proposed by the developer mafia unless they intended that this "campus" be a destination for people involuntarily removed from commercial or mixed use areas based on some version of an "ugly law". That is unacceptable. There is no amount of lipstick you could put on that pig. No urban cleansing. Not negotiable.
