“Hmph… Sonic, we meet again… “ Eggman said before cackling. “Just like old times!”
“And this time you’re not getting away with anything again, Eggman! This charade is over and this lair of yours will be your tombstone!” Sonic said.
“Perhaps so. After all, I have no more reason to live. My purpose in life has been fulfilled.” Eggman said.
Sonic was slightly taken aback, but continued to level his assault rifle at Eggman’s head.
“But… What? You’re about to die! What do you mean you’re fulfilled? We’ve finally won against you!” Sonic said.
“Oh ho ho! That’s where you’re wrong, rodent. You’ve lost, and you know it. I’ve broken you completely, without even lifting a finger. You’ve become a pale shadow of what you once were, a mere mockery.” Eggman said.
Sonic got angry and felt like screaming at Eggman. After all the suffering he’s caused him and this was how he was rewarded on their final confrontation? Reminders of how far he’s fallen… Of how he’s changed for the worse and become the very thing he was fighting against… evil.
“You’re not in a position to be making fun of me right now! Shut up!” Sonic said. “I have a gun pointed at your head right now!”
“You’ve become a tyrant even worse than me. You’ve become sociopathic and machiavellian, sacrificing many lives out of paranoia and fear. And most recently, you’ve become a war criminal. You’ve murdered more civilians in one moment than in months of my reign. Congratulations, Sonic.” Eggman said.
“Shut the fuck up! Shut up! Shut up!” Sonic said. “I’m warning you, I’m going to shoot you!”
“Not so witty anymore are you? You’ve completely changed, inside and out. Now you’re rotten to the core, same like me. Who’s the villain here, Sonic? You or me?” Eggman said.
“You won’t escape my retribution, you mad man! You need to be put out of your misery! After everything you did to me, everything you took away from me, you’re not leaving this room alive!” Sonic said.
“You’re not even trying to refute me anymore. Because you know the truth as well as I do. You’re no better than me at this point, Sonic. You’ve lost your way. You’ve become a scheming dictator just like me. And you know that now your little rebel group has turned on you, you will be subjected to the very same fate as you are subjecting me to right now. You’re fast, but you can’t run forever… ”
Sonic fell to his knees, almost letting go of his gun. Because he knows Eggman is right. He’s a disgusting terrorist who’s killed hundreds of people just out of a simple tactical error. He’s lost. He doesn’t know what he’s going to do after he kills Eggman. Will he really be on the run for the rest of his life? Should he turn himself in for what he’s done and be tried for his war crimes? He’s killed people who had lives and families and friends and lovers… He’s become a complete monster.
“Words are powerful Sonic… With the right person, words are more powerful than any weapon in the world. And look at how easily I’ve broken your spirit with them. In the past my little diatribe would barely phase you, yet look how deep under your skin I’ve got you. I could even pluck your little gun out of your hand at this point, but I’m going to let you keep it. Whether I live or die at this point doesn’t diminish my satisfaction one bit… “
