  1. [16:21] <firsthandEntropy> I read the PM and pushed the button.
  2. [16:23] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Oh really?
  3. [16:23] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Excellent!
  4. [16:23] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I am pleased to hear you decided to join us.
  5. [16:23] <firsthandEntropy> Why did you invite me after rejecting.
  6. [16:23] <firsthandEntropy> This did not make sense to me.
  7. [16:24] <firsthandEntropy> It is still a good suprise.
  8. [16:24] <@intrinsicAnalyst> We discussed the matter amongst ourselves and we came to this joint agreement.
  9. [16:24] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Given our rather lofty public position, it is crucial that we maintain our position in the game against that of Hasbro-Mattel.
  10. [16:25] <firsthandEntropy> The guild against the developers. Interesting. Why was I selected.
  11. [16:26] <@intrinsicAnalyst> We have gotten in the habit of turning down every single request we receive because we receive such a great volume of fan requests and we cannot be certain that any particular given applicant is not a plant from Hasbro-Mattel or the Toymaker himself.
  12. [16:26] <@intrinsicAnalyst> We selected you after a very thorough screening process.
  13. [16:26] <firsthandEntropy> Huh.
  14. [16:26] <firsthandEntropy> Thanks.
  15. [16:26] <@intrinsicAnalyst> We have been watching and monitoring your account activity and we have concluded it seems your motivations and interest in our guild are genuine.
  16. [16:27] <@intrinsicAnalyst> That, and unfortunately it seems that we have an opening that must be filled.
  17. [16:27] <firsthandEntropy> What is unfortunate about an opening.
  18. [16:27] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Your application beat out hordes of other applicants so I would be proud of yourself if I were you!
  19. [16:27] <firsthandEntropy> Ah, I will be glad then.
  20. [16:27] <firsthandEntropy> What should I do.
  21. [16:28] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Aha! It seems that our party for this quest has been filled. We best join the raid before the remainder of the party becomes aggravated with us.
  22. [16:29] <firsthandEntropy> Good idea. I need to get to max level; I got cool armor today
  23. [16:29] * firsthandEntropy enters the raid
  24. [16:29] <@intrinsicAnalyst> We can continue conversing while we go.
  25. [16:29] * intrinsicAnalyst enters the raid
  26. [16:29] <UNOnline> You find yourself in a deep underground sewer system where you go about finding the person you were sent to by the helpless citizen.
  27. [16:30] <@intrinsicAnalyst> So, I presume you have questions, do you not?
  28. [16:30] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I know that I certainly would were I to find myself in your particular situation.
  29. [16:30] <firsthandEntropy> I do. The guild is "against" the devs. Why.
  30. [16:30] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Have you been watching their advertising and marketing?
  31. [16:30] <@intrinsicAnalyst> TRULY watching?
  32. [16:31] <firsthandEntropy> No, I paid for the game and ignored all of it.
  33. [16:31] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Take a look at some of the trailers for this DLC if you have not already done so.
  34. [16:31] * firsthandEntropy goes and looks up the DLC
  35. [16:32] <UNOnline> The DLC seems to have been announced about 6 months ago, and there have been massive publicity efforts on the effort of Hasbro-Mattel to promote the game.
  36. [16:32] <UNOnline> It is being marketed as an "immersive adventure delving into the backstory and cause behind a dark, all-consuming blight that is quickly spreading across the land".
  37. [16:32] <UNOnline> Some of these.... marketing things seem strange to you though..... This video is literally a video of someone's house getting blown up!!!
  38. [16:32] <UNOnline> There's another one with laser guns and a war scene.... another trailer shows black smoke enveloping a neighborhood. These... are pretty realistic videos!!!
  39. [16:32] <UNOnline> If they weren't so violent, you'd have said they were all live-action! Hasbro-Mattel is really stepping up the their CGI game.
  40. [16:32] <UNOnline> You probably wouldn't have noticed had you not been told to watch closely.
  41. [16:33] <firsthandEntropy> Wow, this is very impressive CGI. Looks real.
  42. [16:33] <UNOnline> Supposedly this is from in-game footage?
  43. [16:33] <@intrinsicAnalyst> That is the explanation that is the easiest to handle, yes.
  44. [16:33] <firsthandEntropy> Maybe some of it was actual live acting instead of in-game footage.
  45. [16:33] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Now you are beginning to think like us!
  46. [16:34] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I have some quite specific information from a source close to Hasbro-Mattel that it is indeed live-action.
  47. [16:34] <firsthandEntropy> so...
  48. [16:34] <firsthandEntropy> they have good fireworks guys.
  49. [16:34] <@intrinsicAnalyst> People died in the filming of those advertisements.
  50. [16:34] <firsthandEntropy> empty houses are a bit expensive though.
  51. [16:34] <firsthandEntropy> what.
  52. [16:34] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Those were real people's houses.
  53. [16:34] <firsthandEntropy> that is illigal.
  54. [16:34] <firsthandEntropy> or it would be.
  55. [16:35] <firsthandEntropy> probably.
  56. [16:35] <firsthandEntropy> not really sure.
  57. [16:35] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Do you really think that any government is going to do anything about it?
  58. [16:35] <firsthandEntropy> no. they are too busy with important things.
  59. [16:35] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Given H-M's power, it seems highly likely that they have some sort of agreement with governments anyways to not interfere with their corporation.
  60. [16:35] <firsthandEntropy> these are some crazy theories.
  61. [16:36] <UNOnline> Your characters eventually find the secret poison lab, but the crafty thief supposedly behind the caper is nowhere to be found. Your party continues down a secret passageway.
  62. [16:36] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I know you must be familiar with our guild's reputation of not paying for a single thing in this game.
  63. [16:36] <@intrinsicAnalyst> There is a very specific reason for that, beyond simply stinginess.
  64. [16:37] <firsthandEntropy> what is it.
  65. [16:37] <firsthandEntropy> I paid to get rid of the popups and confusion. hard to focus otherwise.
  66. [16:37] <@intrinsicAnalyst> If you know that a corporation is murdering what are likely political prisoners or economic threats in order to create marketing advertisements, would you give them your financial information?
  67. [16:38] <@intrinsicAnalyst> We decided not to give H-M a single credit
  68. [16:38] <@intrinsicAnalyst> And thus, our code of action.
  69. [16:39] <@intrinsicAnalyst> H-M has immense power, so we do what we do in defiance.
  70. [16:39] <firsthandEntropy> I paid with a prepaid card. I traded a bunch of food for it.
  71. [16:39] <firsthandEntropy> Interesting. You are a rebel group. Cool.
  72. [16:40] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Then consider your personal information that much safer. But you cannot know what that money was used for. Who knows? Maybe some of it went towards the "pyrotechnics"?
  73. [16:40] <firsthandEntropy> Let me look up that word real quick.
  74. [16:40] * firsthandEntropy looks up that word
  75. [16:40] <firsthandEntropy> Oh, so basically fireworks.
  76. [16:40] <firsthandEntropy> in real peoples houses?
  77. [16:41] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I shall leave the drawing of conclusions to you.
  78. [16:41] <firsthandEntropy> I'm not amazing at drawing. You mean finishing ideas, right. I'll try.
  79. [16:41] <firsthandEntropy> Are the houses being destroyed without permission...
  80. [16:41] <UNOnline> Your party reaches the bottom of a large staircase to find the source of the poison contaminating the neighborhood's water source. You all work to shut it down and destroy it.
  81. [16:43] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Would you give a megacorporation permission to explode your house?
  82. [16:43] <firsthandEntropy> no, i would not. I like my house.
  83. [16:43] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Then it is likely the former residents of those abodes did not either.
  84. [16:44] <firsthandEntropy> hm. that is not good.
  85. [16:44] <@intrinsicAnalyst> It would cost money for H-M to purchase materials to carry out such a deed.
  86. [16:44] <firsthandEntropy> perhaps the company did not know this.
  87. [16:44] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Where do you suppose they found the money for this?
  88. [16:44] <firsthandEntropy> . . .
  89. [16:44] <firsthandEntropy> from this game.
  90. [16:45] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Do not ever assume that a piece of information is outside the provisions of knowledge of Hasbro-Mattel.
  91. [16:45] <@intrinsicAnalyst> H-M knows a great deal more than most suppose.
  92. [16:46] <UNOnline> With a loud explosion, the poison system crumbles to the ground and your party begins climbing back out in an attempt to hunt down the thief behind all of this.
  93. [16:46] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Now do you see another reason why we do not pay any money to H-M?
  94. [16:46] * firsthandEntropy quickly casts a poison-immunity spel
  95. [16:46] <firsthandEntropy> yes
  96. [16:47] <@intrinsicAnalyst> That is why we do what we do. We play these games without giving a single quantifiable unit of currency to the megacorporation behind it in an attempt to show the world that it is possible and to inspire others to do the same.
  97. [16:48] <firsthandEntropy> interesting. how do you get rid of the popups?
  98. [16:48] <@intrinsicAnalyst> You close them.
  99. [16:48] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Do you know why they have all appeared just now?
  100. [16:49] <firsthandEntropy> no.
  101. [16:49] <firsthandEntropy> many appeared, then went away like they should have.
  102. [16:49] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Take it as proof that Hasbro-Mattel is in control of more than you originally thought.
  103. [16:49] <@intrinsicAnalyst> They hid the existence of this DLC from you up until now.
  104. [16:50] <firsthandEntropy> oh. at least the dlc was free.
  105. [16:51] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Had you seen their advertising, perhaps you would have purchased the DLC.
  106. [16:51] <@intrinsicAnalyst> They knew that we were going to be recruiting you.
  107. [16:51] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Thankfully my friend was able to provide you with a copy regardless.
  108. [16:51] <firsthandEntropy> interesting. why did you give me a DLC?
  109. [16:52] <firsthandEntropy> I just play this game to be wizard.
  110. [16:53] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I was operating under the presumption that you would accept our invitation to join our guild, so I extended the DLC to you early.
  111. [16:53] <@intrinsicAnalyst> That raid quest you were mysteriously invited to?
  112. [16:53] <@intrinsicAnalyst> That quest shouldn't have existed for you.
  113. [16:53] <firsthandEntropy> why should it not have existed? I thought it was an event.
  114. [16:54] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I would have waited to use it to provide you with the DLC until after we were able to have this conversation, but our window of opportunity to pull some strings and make the quest available to you was closing soon.
  115. [16:54] <firsthandEntropy> oh.
  116. [16:54] <@intrinsicAnalyst> That quest had severe prerequisite restrictions which your character is nowhere near to satisfying.
  117. [16:55] <firsthandEntropy> when I did the quest thing an error happened.
  118. [16:55] <@intrinsicAnalyst> And it is the only way we have discovered so far to obtain the DLC for free.
  119. [16:55] <firsthandEntropy> ah
  120. [16:55] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Yes, that error was because the H-M servers could not process that your character should not have undertaken that quest to begin with.
  121. [16:56] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I knew it would default to providing you with a completed quest in that case, and that is why we were able to accomplish what we did.
  122. [16:56] <firsthandEntropy> cool. you guys know what you are doing.
  123. [16:56] <firsthandEntropy> what should I do?
  124. [16:56] <UNOnline> You group eventually finds the thief hiding behind a barricade in the rear portion of a tunnel.
  125. [16:56] <@intrinsicAnalyst> H-M did not want you to obtain the game to help us play it.
  126. [16:57] <@intrinsicAnalyst> So obtaining the game and helping us play it is precisely what you should do.
  127. [16:57] <@intrinsicAnalyst> It is the best way to take action against those who have wronged so many.
  128. [16:57] <firsthandEntropy> that makes sense.
  129. [16:57] <firsthandEntropy> how do i run the dlc?
  130. [16:59] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Use the same H-M digital rights manager client program that you use for UNOnline. The DLC should show up right underneath the standard game.
  131. [16:59] <firsthandEntropy> oh. i will try that after this.
  132. [16:59] <firsthandEntropy> am i in the guild there too?
  133. [16:59] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I will warn you that moving forward with this is an irrevocable decision. It will be difficult.
  134. [17:00] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I would only advise you moving forward if you think you have the personal strength to continue.
  135. [17:00] <firsthandEntropy> i am pretty strong in real life, but my wizard is only smart.
  136. [17:00] <@intrinsicAnalyst> We believe you do.
  137. [17:00] <firsthandEntropy> does that count?
  138. [17:00] <@intrinsicAnalyst> What counts is your personal strength and perseverance and discipline.
  139. [17:01] <@intrinsicAnalyst> We believe you can do this.
  140. [17:01] <@intrinsicAnalyst> The question is,
  141. [17:01] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Do you?
  142. [17:01] <UNOnline> The thief crumples under the last spell cast at it, and your group celebrates as the finishing cutscene plays
  143. [17:01] <firsthandEntropy> i am very strong and good at perserverence.
  144. [17:02] <@intrinsicAnalyst> Excellent, then we shall proceed. I am glad to hear it.
  145. [17:03] * intrinsicAnalyst returns to the main world, leaving the raid
  146. [17:03] * firsthandEntropy does so as well
  147. [17:03] <firsthandEntropy> i will attempt this dlc then.
  148. [17:04] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I am afraid I cannot unfortunately explain all of this DLC to you, that would take far more time than I have.
  149. [17:04] <firsthandEntropy> fair enough.
  150. [17:04] <firsthandEntropy> see you in that dlc then.
  151. [17:04] <firsthandEntropy> perhaps.
  152. [17:04] <@intrinsicAnalyst> If you join the game in the DLC, you shall find the guild there.
  153. [17:04] <@intrinsicAnalyst> I would encourage you to reach out to them to figure out how would be best to coordinate your playing this game with them.
  154. [17:04] <@intrinsicAnalyst> It will require a great deal of teamwork.
  155. [17:05] <firsthandEntropy> that sounds like a good idea.
  156. [17:05] <firsthandEntropy> i can work with others i think. it doesnt happen very often though.
  157. [17:05] <@intrinsicAnalyst> If you try hard enough, you will find yourself more successful than you originally thought possible.
  158. [17:05] * firsthandEntropy disconnects, and quits the game
