  1. <Prometheus> The scene fades in, a cityscape ruined by battle. Shattered buildings have blocked off streets with rubble, craters pock the ground everywhere. In the background, distant explosions and gunfire are a constant reminder that the battle is far from over. A GLADIUS-class mech lumbers along a street, apparently abandoned for the moment.

  5. <Prometheus> The HUD in front of Lt. Veata Sien pops up a text reading: "MISSION OBJECTIVES: Neutralize all Saratogan insurgents in the combat area." The goal is clear, but the course of action remains with the pilot. Ahead lies a crumbling street, with a partially collapsed apartment building on the left side, and a parking garage on the right. The latter is very cramped for a GLADIUS.
  6. <Prometheus> What will you do, Lieutenant Sien?
  7. * Quacker_Veata quickly looks over the immediate area, sweeping everything with a quick glance, weighing her options mentally before focusing on the parking garage and apartment building, wondering if either of them would support the weight of her machine if she tried to gain the high ground atop the structures, while keeping an eye on her ealry warning systems incase of ambush.

  10. <Prometheus> (2 and 4 are multiples, added together we get 6 + 7 perception = 13)
  11. * Quacker_Veata hits several controls in sequence, her machine croutching abit before the multi-ton machine leaps, attempting to gain higher ground atop the parking garage, in midair Vaeta sets the targeting reticle as well, firing the machine's grapple hook at her target to help reel it up incase she missed.
  12. <Prometheus> Veata's broadband audio sensors indicate light mecha movement coming from around the corner of the parking garage. She can also hear something above, on top of the garage.

  17. <Prometheus> Veata fires her jump pods, launching the Gladius over 20 meters into the air, landing with a crunch on the top of the parking garage.

  20. * Quacker_Veata brings up her assault cannon and looks around for whatever it was her sensors detected on top.
  21. <Prometheus> It's not hard for the Saratogan soldier in Crusader power armor to spot Veata. COMBAT BEGINS.

  27. * Quacker_Veata squeezes the firing trigger once the targeting reticle is more or less centered upon the power armored foe, firing a lengthy fullly automatic burst of assault cannon fire, spent casings ejecting from the weapon as it's roar echos like thunder.
  28. <Prometheus> Veata has the initiative, the Saratogan is slow to bring its railgun to bear

  55. <Prometheus> (The armor roll is a critical failure, receives 10 damage)
  56. <Quacker_Veata> (cool~)
  57. <Prometheus> The assault cannon shells tear into the powered armor, ripping armor plates open and damaging motors. The railgun it was carrying is dropped to the ground as an arm is blown off. The Crusader turns and attempts to withdraw, limping toward the ramp to the lower level.

(assuming she has intivative)
  64. <Prometheus> The two other Crusaders climbing up the side of the garage react too slowly to intercept her as she falls between them.

  95. <Prometheus> The GLADIUS drops by the two powered armor suits, hyperedge blades flashing out. A split second after it has passed, one of the Crusader's arms flies off, clutching half a railgun, the other sporting a deep gash in it, crackling as severed power lines leak raw energy. It retaliates, still hanging from the grapple line, firing down at Veata.

  167. <Prometheus> As the smoke clears, the Crusader is alarmed to find his rocket pod empty, and a still-functional Gladius in front of it.
  168. * Quacker_Veata initiates a damage check on her machine, and recenters her crosshairs, before the Galdius suddenly dashes towards the crusader, assault blades extending from it's wrists, stabbing at the powered armor with one blade, and then the other

  196. <Prometheus> Veata's assault, though fierce, doesn't have quite as much of an effect as expected. The first stab glances off an armor plate, the other hits off-center, but severs the railgun's power cable, rendering it quickly useless.
  197. * Quacker_Veata doublechecks to make sure the powered armor troopers are no longer a threat, and then turns away, activating her mech's autorepair system and switching her sensors into "SCAN" mode, marking the disarmed power suits as "NO THREAT" into her IFF system.
  198. <Prometheus> The Gladius' damage control system begins effecting repairs, restoring it up to unhindered function. The Crusaders start to retreat toward enemy lines, limping as they go.
  199. <Prometheus> "That's enough, Lieutenant." The VR chamber goes dark, the cityscape fading away around her. For a brief moment there is total darkness. Then the simulation capsule opens with a hiss, nearly blinding Veata with light. "You can exit the simulator now."
  200. * Quacker_Veata blinks at the bright light and brings a hand up to shield her eyes from the bright light until they adjust to it, sitting up and getting out of the capsule "How'd I do?"
  201. <Prometheus> The officer overseeing the VR training room looks up from his desk. "Well, let's see...all targets neutralized...very conservative with ammunition, very good...took quite a bit of damage, but nothing critical. I'd say that's about an A, don't you think PERKINS?" he asks, looking pointedly at a sheepish trainee nearby, who hangs his head.
  202. * Quacker_Veata stands at attention, though she does give Perkins a quick smug, satisfied look before returning her face to the proper expression of professional detatchment "Thank you sir, I'll try to avoid rocket fire more effectively next time, sir."
  203. <Prometheus> The officer shakes his head. "You did well. At least you didn't run out in the open, make a huge racket and then get ganged up on and completely obliterated. You would do well to learn from Sien, PERKINS!" he barks at the trainee, who cringes. He turns back to Veata. "Now that you're done, the Colonel wants to see you as soon as possible. Sounded like something important."
  204. * Quacker_Veata nods and gives the officer a salute "Yes sir, I'll go see the Colnel ASAP"
  205. * Quacker_Veata leaves the simulator room and heads to the colnel's office, assuming she gets dismissed.
  206. <Prometheus> The officer nods and waves Veata off. "Better not keep him waiting. I've got to get back to overseeing the rest of the newbies. I swear, the quality of new recruits goes down every goddamn year. If Perkins here was the best we had during the Saratogan uprising, we'd be all speaking shitty fake latin by now."
  207. * Quacker_Veata speedily goes to the colonel's office, knocking on the door and waiting to be invited in/for it to open.
  208. <Prometheus> "Enter."
  209. * Quacker_Veata enters, standing at attention and saluting "Lt. Veata Sein, reporting for duty sir, you wanted to see me?"
  210. <Prometheus> The Colonel looks up at Veata as she enters. "Ah, Lieutenant. I've heard good things about you. Very, very promising results. Highest combat simulation scores in years, top of your class. Unfortunate...or perhaps fortunate lack of field experience." The balding, middle-aged Colonel shakes his head. "You might think otherwise, but you are quite lucky in being too young to remember Saratoga. Terrible, terrible tragedy. Ah, but I am an old man, a
  211. <Prometheus> nd have a tendency to ramble."
  212. * Starit_away is now known as Starit
  213. * ChanServ gives voice to Starit
  214. <Quacker_Veata> "...Something is up, isn't it? I doubt the colnel would call me in just to congratulate me on high simulation scores no matter how good"
  215. <Prometheus> He clears his throat, sips a bit from the cup of tea on his desk. "I have here a special assignment, which requires a skilled, eager and above-all brave pilot." He flips through a file. The Colonel liked paper files, even though it was mostly all digitized. He had a few...eccentricities, like his fascination with bygone times.
  216. <Prometheus> "The NEG military R&D branch has requested a test pilot for new, improved mecha. Cutting edge, state of the art and other such buzzwords."
  217. <Prometheus> He looks up at Veata and smiles. "Oh, and I believe there will be quite a bit of...field testing involved. How does it sound?"
  218. * Quacker_Veata blinks, surprised, before quickly regaining her professional composure "Sir, if you don't mind me being honest...That sounds exactly like the assignment I've been hoping for for quite some time, when do I start?"
  219. <Prometheus> He checks the antique clock on his desk. "Well, the next flight is in about...three hours. You'd best get packing. Perhaps there'll be time for celebration with your classmates, after all you won't see them for quite some time, if ever. Or you could wait for the next flight, there is no particular rush."
  220. * Quacker_Veata nods "I'll pack and catch the next flight, thank you sir"
  221. <Prometheus> He stands, up straightens his uniform and holds out a hand. "I wish you the best of luck. NEG needs more pilots with your skills."
  222. * Quacker_Veata takes the offered hand and gives it a shake, smiling "I'll make you proud sir!"
  223. <Prometheus> He shakes Veata's hand firmly, smiling. "I'm sure you will, Lieutenant. You're dismissed."
  224. * rosleep is now known as rosgone
  225. * Quacker_Veata salutes again "Thank you sir, goodbye" She says, turning and heading out of the office to gather her things and maybe celebrate abit before catching the flight out to her next assignment.
  226. <Prometheus> The others throw a short, impromptu farewell party for Veata, even corporal Perkins, who, due to his slight obesity problem, has gained a rather embarrassing nickname.
