- Q: What does ESG mean?
- A: Emblem Skip Glitch (ESG) lets you to skip watching them emblem animations/cutscene after you get a new emblem. We knew that it was possible on GameCube before, but recently Emerua found a way to me it work on the PC Steam version. Once ESG is disabled, on your next emblem collection, you will collect all the emblems the game hasn't given to you at once.
- Q: How much time does ESG save?
- A: We estimate it to save ~18 minutes at the moment (Detailed calculation here https://pastebin.com/XSYQTgCA)
- Q: How do you Trigger it?
- A: You complete the any% run (Completing All Stories using the Chao Key Glitch) and re-launch the game during the final cutscene. Going back to the same glitched file and re-watching the final cutscene causes ESG to be triggered within the game's code. TommyEasy demonstrates this here: https://youtu.be/3JFQEk40AHg.
- Q: Are there any difference in runs if you do ESG?
- A: The main differences are:
- -Last Story doesn't unlock as the game requires you to have both Hero Story and Dark Story emblems (which you technically haven't collected because of ESG).
- -There are no eggs in the Black Market since what eggs can be in the shop are dependent on your emblem count (you're required to buy 1 to do optimal chao raising strats).
- -You don't collect the "All A rank" Emblem till ESG is disabled, which means the "Alternative/Faster" Karts for Kart racing aren't unlocked till ESG is disabled
- Q: So how does that change the route?
- A: The differences are as followed:
- -Hero Story and Dark Story are done as normal. Last story is pushed to later in the run, as is Route 101 Mission 3-5 to trigger the wrong warp in Cannon's Core 3-5.
- -ESG must be disabled before doing chao evolution so an egg can be bought in the black market. This can be done by re-launching the game after the final Rouge mission.
- -Re-launching gets rid of animals so animal collection can only be done after this point.
- -Kart racing is still at the end of the run since Shadow's "Alt" car outweighs the Emblem cutscenes skipped.
- -Boss rush is also at the end since it is not unlocked till after ESG is disabled.
- -Once ESG is disabled, it is faster to immediately do Green Forest M5 and then chao stuff instead of anything else, due to the fact that extra "Congratulations" screens are skipped (since the game can only load 4 at a time)
