  1. The door of the hallway opens with a soft clunk, the drenched figure in the doorway illuminated by the dim streetlight as the sound of rain drums against the cobbles outside. As the diminutive figure walks forward they reach a green hoof up to remove the sagging fedora atop their head, her black mane spilling out from the brim as she enters the hallway.
  2. "Another call from the Carrots came through, and the Police Chief wants any updates to the case files you asked for." Comes a shrill voice from the ajar office door at the opposite end of the hallway amidst the sound of furious clacking. With a snort and a sharp kick to close the hallway door in response, she reveals a small satchel as she places her hat and coat upon some coat hooks. Behind her the drumming rain dims to a quiet strumming, the glass of the door behind her casting the words Hornet Investigations onto the floorboards below.
  3. “Next time you want to rattle business at me Shines, wait till I’m in the goddess-damn office.” The short pony replies sharply to the doorway, shaking off the droplets of rain that made it through her attire as she ruffles the feathers lining her wings. She trots down the hallway to hoof open the door, revealing a cramped office housing two desks with papers and books lining most available surfaces. The larger of the desks sits in the middle of the room, the mess of books scattered on its top lit by the large lamp sat off to one side. The smaller of the desks is situated to the left of the entrance behind which an umber stallion sits hunched over a typewriter, his desk an organised chaos of paperwork, letters and stationary among which a half-full coffee pot sits. As the filly enters the room he takes pause from his typing and looks down at her as he pours out some of the black liquid.
  4. “The Chief wants them pretty soon too, that or she’ll take them back. She sounded serious this time Hornet. Oh, how was school?” Shines mentions before talking a deep gulp of coffee, almost draining the cup completely.
  5. “Pfft, I’d like to see her try. Not sure I could even find them.” Hornet replies with a smirk, which drops off her features as soon as she looks around the room. “School was the usual, a waste of time spent learning your history instead of me being here… Goddesses I hate all these files, don’t I pay you to organise these?”
  6. “Yet again I came in this morning and they were everywhere. I’m trying my best here.” He says with a sigh, turning back to his work and resuming his rhythmic typing, a tired look on his features. Hornet walks forward and throws her satchel onto the desk, papers sliding out of the bag across the desk.
  7. “Humph, not my fault. I’ve got bigger problems than the ‘Battle of Fetlock Ridge’ anyway.” She mutters, looking down at the historical papers haphazardly sat atop the desk before looking at the mess on the desk and wincing. “I’ll sort that later. Anyway, what did the Carrots want?”
  8. “Seems Carrot Peel hasn’t been back from working his plot of land and his parents are worried, not surprising considering they’ve heard the rumours going around. They called the police who didn’t want to hear it, next call was to us. Third disappearance we’ve had in this month.” Shines explains without any pause from his work.
  9. “What’ve you got so far then, anything more than she’s not been heard from for… 5 hours, tops?” Hornet says uninterestedly, leafing through the folders on her desk to create some semblance of organisation. The stallion reaches a folder marked C. Peel which is lying on top of a large pile, picking it up before carefully placing it in front of Hornet and opening the folder to the relevant page before returning to his desk. The filly scans the document over a few times, before pushing her chair away from her desk and hopping down to the floor. “I’ll look at this plot of land, see if I can find anything there, but this rain ain’t giving me much hope. Ring ahead and let the Carrots know I’ll talk to them in an hour, see if anything else turns up.” Shines acknowledges her orders with a nod as she heads into the hallway to grab her garb, before the door opens once again to the sound of the rain pouring down outside.
