» | background: during her childhood, her family didn't have much. owning a small family restaurant that was the only source of income until minkee's brother was old enough to work, yet even then they had trouble paying for most of the bills and the martial arts classes that they were both taking. she had offered to opt out, but her mother insisted, saying that it was too bad of a world for her to not know how to protect herself; it also worked as a place where she learned life lessons. it's where she had learned to be patient, and to work hard no matter how good the opponent is or how fluttery your stomach feels before the spar. taught her to follow her gut when a supposed company recruiter had seen her sparring and suggested that she go to the auditions held by sm entertainment (she had heard inklings about how they treated their members-- ex-members, now), and she decided to have a lazy day instead. minkee would always be thankful towards her taekwondo master, who had helped her family through the brunt of lower-class. he was also the reason they had the chance to rise up, setting an interview for her mother with another student's mother, who just so happened to need workers who knew how to draw cohesive outfits.

                as the daughter of a well-known fashion designer and and a rising author, minkee would say that she's one of the least talented in her family. apart from her brother, who served in the military and was at least useful in some way. all she had to be proud about was her looks, as far as she knew, and even then that didn't require much talent, only luck. she had tried her hand at poetry, and, while they were pretty decent for a person who had never wrote anything other than essays and her resume, it ran out of her eventually, overused metaphors dying at the tip of her pen. of course, she could always return to teaching taekwondo, but after eight years of the martial art, that had become tiring as well-- besides, her mother would never allow the face of her new line to quit. there was nothing else she could do, other than the auditions that were going to be held a few streets and days away... she thought about it first. knew that her voice wasn't bad, as she had been complimented many times when she went to karaoke with her mother and friends. the dancing she could learn in time, she thought. a few days later, minkee could be seen waiting in a line of people, hand clutching the garnet stone linked around her neck and lips suppressing a smile. perhaps it wasn't her first new calling, but there was a small feeling in her gut-- warm and excited-- that it might just be the last.

» | personality: she is an outgoing and affectionate character, who is intuitive and extremely empathetic to those close to her. as an extremely athletic and sporty person, minkee is competitive; losing is not something that she has in her everyday vocabulary. she is actually a fast learner, but she tends to overwork herself to the point where she has fallen unconscious in the middle of practice (which also dubbed her as one of the 'perfectionist' trainees). minkee is very confident in her looks (borderline arrogant), but she's conscious about her actions and skills, knowing that there's always room for improvement. she's pretty secretive about her emotions as well, meaning she doesn't voluntarily express how she's feeling, and if someone asks she says that she's fine. if she likes someone, she'll always keep it lowkey/won't confess first in fear that she won't be accepted (and, well, she's also quite the hopeless romantic). you could also describe her as paranoid/slightly pessimistic, and thinks that people aren't really there for her and thinking of the worst outcomes. but, if you are there for her, and prove to her that you aren't just fake, she becomes extremely overprotective of you, and will probably try to beat the hell out of anyone who has the audacity to hurt any of them, no matter who it is.

    ∘ the first time they met, the thought of singing hadn't even came into consideration and rapping was only a passionate past-time for him. his mother had dragged him into grocery shopping and he, being the best 14-year-old son a mother could ask for, had independently went to grab most of the items on the list she gave him. and it had been going well---- until a hot-headed 13-year-old girl had snatched the last of the pocky sticks from the shelf. they argued for a while, enough to attract the annoyed attention of passing customers, until her mother came to the aisle. the argument died down quickly after that, the stranger in front of him immediately flushing and looking down as her mother told her (her name sounded funny) to apologize (it surprised him that she actually did) and give the snack to him (she dropped it, more like, but he let it slide). it confused him when he heard that they "couldn't afford the extra snacks, anyway," from her mother as they walked away. it was the least expensive snack in the aisle.

    ∘ the second time they met 17-year-old him definitely remembered her face-- that name-- as she walked down a runway. didn't know why he let his friends drag him to something like this anyway (he was just too n i c e and he /finally/ got a break from training). it felt like forever had passed when the show ended, him immediately speed walking towards the exit until a body crashes into his. toned, and definitely a woman. they stumble, dark coffee spilling all over his plain white tee and all she hears from her lips are apologies and the promise to be right back with a clean shirt he could change into. he leaves the show wearing a plain white tee shirt that cost more than his mother's annual salary.

    ∘ the third time they meet is an accident. kakaotalk friends who found each other accidentally and decided to meet up on a nice spring saturday after two years of nothing but voice recordings reassuring the other they were not, in fact, fifty year old men out to get the other. her schedule was finally clear as her plane landed back in south korea from america and he had just finished practicing his heart out. it was early, for him at least (12:36 in the afternoon), though it was probably the only time they could ever see each other face to face. of course, he didn't know exactly why she told him to hold a sign saying kangaroo in roman lettering (18-year-old him hadn't understood what the hell he was writing, but followed the lines anyway) at the airport, but he did it anyway. the moment he saw her, he was sure that the world had a funny way of pointing out people that would matter in the future, and she wasn't sure why his mouth was attracting flies until she heard his voice; admittedly, it had been deeper than she remembered when she was fourteen, but that was definitely his face from a year ago. they thought it was funny how life worked out the way it did, and talked about it over cups of steaming coffee and a slice of blueberry cheesecake. this time, they leave with the only apology being that they were busy the next day, but with the promise of meeting again soon.

    ∘ they didn't recognize each other the next time they meet. him being a world-famous idol and her as someone who was just given the chance to debut, him having to change his phone (and kkt account) after a particular nasty happening with a sasaeng fan that the company didn't want to know-- they had much more things to think of other than their job (or training, in her case). it was at a convenience store late at night, where she needed to have a breather and he was finally given a (rare) chance to take a (brief) break. she had just finished cooking her ramen and buying her coke, when she noticed him sitting outside alone and eating as well. minkee decided to approach him (her opening line being something she thought was funny but probably wasn't) and eat with him, starting a conversation.

» | first impressions: when she recognized his voice, minkee immediately began to apologize/ramble about intruding his private alone time that he probably never gets a lot of, extremely flushed and slightly embarrassed. he found her extremely amusing considering that she was completely different from how she was being a second ago (and, well, her voice and face was something he saw in the back of his mind, but couldn't exactly get his head around).

» | how you act around him: minkee is quite shy at first, being in the presence of someone who's already extremely well-known (despite being quite famous herself, but not so much in this side of the industry). as time goes by and the initial shock wears off, she becomes a lot more comfortable around him and starts to act like her usual, outgoing self. when they figure out that they've met before, minkee finds herself actually trusting him, open to telling him about her family and such. she finds comfort in the conversations they have, and likes the feeling of having a constant friend that she knows wouldn't just use her. when she starts noticing that sometimes her heart beats a bit too fast for her liking during their conversations (over text or in person), she begins to try and shy herself away, replying less and usually going quiet, which definitely stirs up some angst and (unwanted) tension between the two of them. when he comes to her wondering if it was some rumor that had sprouted up because of some picture of them, she was extremely confused. when the situation was explained to her, she began freaking out, but he was able to calm her down (after a long while smh).

» | how he acts around you: charming, in the cute way. he'll be charismatic and kind, (sometimes) spoiling her with attention (mostly over social media), sometimes giving her gifts if she mentions something during their conversations. he tries, at first, to restrain himself from getting too close, for both of their sakes. though he's still the quiet one in their little relationship, he has his moments where he can keep up with her energetic and over-the-place nature. when she begins to shy away from him, he's extremely confused, and worried, about what the hell was happening. he guessed it was because of the fans that had noticed them outside one time they thought they weren't alone, and immediately apologized for it. he tried to catch her up when she said she had no idea, and tried to comfort her and be there for her as usual.

» | relationship: their interactions are usually over text, with some sneaking around so neither companies know about what's going on (and the fans, of course-- if the fans ever found out, it would be chaos). they're extremely good friends at first, but somehow along the way, they find themselves seeing more in the comfort and company the other provide than just friendship. though they have some tension and rough patches in the middle, everything turns out well for both of their emotions in the end (romantic or platonic~).
