- Subject: Re: Inquiring about the stance of SU on NTU's ineffective COVID-19 measures
- Dear XXXX,
- Thank you for your reply.
- NTUSU strongly believes that online lesson pedagogy must not be sacrificed for lesson content and therefore have been urging the school to put most emphasis in ensuring that the quality of learning is not compromised when transitioning lessons to online means. The University and faculty members are working hard to commit to upholding the quality and NTUSU has been actively working with your Academic Club Presidents to improve the experience across faculties. As a whole, we do not take the stand that a mandatory and sweeping policy to impose recording of lectures are in the best interests of students. We will continue to engage with the University to ensure that students are provided with sufficient spaces to self-study, while being able to adhere to safe social distancing measures in line with the governmental guidelines.
- Regarding removing participation requirements for online classes, NTUSU believes removing participatory or attendance elements for online classes may affect educational interest for undergraduate students and the broad principle for learning and growth.
- Overall, NTUSU hopes for students to exercise personal social responsibility and avoid congregating in groups. Our principle is that educational quality must go hand in hand with safe distancing ethics to ensure an ideal and safe learning environment for all students.
- All lectures are conducted online across all schools and faculties for this semester. If this is not the case, please provide the course code (with index no), lecturer name, and school.
- As your voice, it is our responsibility to persist in our service and dedication to constructing a conducive and safe campus environment. Your feedback allows the Union to constructively assist and improve the situation. Please be assured that we are constantly engaging with the school management on this matter, especially regarding transport and academic arrangements for this semester. We hope this serves as clarification.
- Best regards,
- Cheryl
