  1. Hey Folks, Digidark here again.
  2.
  3. Today I want to talk about data protection, this resolves getting busted easily.
  4. VeraCrypt crypto containers are encrypted virtual drives stored as files on your computer. They allow you to securely store sensitive data, with encryption and decryption happening on-the-fly. The purpose is to protect files from unauthorized access while keeping them portable and easy to use like a normal disk. Download VeraCrypt from here: https://veracrypt.io/en/Downloads.html
  5.
  6. ## Step 1 – Create a Volume
  7.
  8. Launch VeraCrypt and click Create Volume. This starts the Volume Creation Wizard.
  9.
  10.
  11. ## Step 2 – Select the Volume Type
  12.
  13. In the wizard, choose how your encrypted volume will be created:
  14.
  15. * Create an encrypted file container – A file that acts like a virtual encrypted disk (recommended).
  16. * Encrypt a non-system partition/drive.
  17. * Encrypt the system partition or entire drive.
  18.
  19. For this guide, we’ll use the first option (default). Click Next.
  20.
  21.
  22. ## Step 3 – Choose Regular or Hidden Volume
  23.
  24. * Standard Volume – A normal encrypted container.
  25. * Hidden Volume – Used for plausible deniability (covered later).
  26.
  27. Select Standard VeraCrypt Volume → Next.
  28.
  29.
  30. ## Step 4 – Volume Location
  31.
  32. Click Select File, then choose a location and filename for your container (e.g., `C:\VeraCrypt\VeraCryptVolume`).
  33.
  34. ⚠️ Note: If you select an existing file, it will be overwritten.
  35.
  36. Click Save → Next.
  37.
  38.
  39. ## Step 5 – Confirm Location
  40.
  41. Verify the selected location and click Next.
  42.
  43.
  44. ## Step 6 – Encryption Settings
  45.
  46. Choose encryption and hash algorithms. Default values are:
  47.
  48. * AES (encryption)
  49. * SHA-512 (hashing)
  50.
  51. Unless you have special requirements, keep defaults → Next.
  52.
  53.
  54. ## Step 7 – Volume Size
  55.
  56. Specify the container size (e.g., 1024 MB).
  57.
  58. 💡 Tip: For serious use, consider 30 GB+ depending on your storage needs.
  59.
  60. Click Next.
  61.
  62.
  63. ## Step 8 – Volume Password
  64.
  65. Create a strong password (long, random, mix of characters).
  66.
  67. Optional: Use a **keyfile** (a separate file required for unlocking). If you use one, back it up safely—losing it means losing access forever.
  68.
  69. Click Next.
  70.
  71.
  72. ## Step 9 – Format the Volume
  73.
  74. Choose a filesystem:
  75.
  76. * NTFS – For files > 4 GB.
  77. * FAT/exFAT – For smaller containers or cross-platform compatibility.
  78.
  79. Move your mouse randomly inside the window until the randomness bar turns green. This improves encryption strength.
  80.
  81. Click **Format** and wait for VeraCrypt to create the volume.
  82.
  83.
  84. ## Step 10 – Volume Created
  85.
  86. Once finished, click **Exit**. The encrypted container file is now ready.
  87.
  88.
  89. ## Step 11 – Mount the Volume
  90.
  91. 1. In the main VeraCrypt window, choose a drive letter (e.g., F:).
  92. 2. Click Select File and browse to your container file.
  93.
  94.
  95. ## Step 12 – Enter Password
  96.
  97. Click **Mount**, then enter your password (and/or keyfile).
  98.
  99. If correct, the container mounts as a virtual encrypted drive.
  100.
  101.
  102. ## Step 13 – Use the Encrypted Drive
  103.
  104. Your container now appears as drive F: (or whichever letter you chose).
  105.
  106. * You can copy, move, and save files here as with any drive.
  107. * Files are **encrypted on the fly**—no unencrypted copies are written to disk.
  108. * To protect your data, securely delete any original unencrypted files after copying them into the container.
  109.
  110.
  111. ## Step 14 – Dismounting the Volume
  112.
  113. When finished:
  114.
  115. 1. Open VeraCrypt.
  116. 2. Select the mounted drive.
  117. 3. Click **Dismount**.
  118.
  119. The drive disappears, and your files remain encrypted in the container.
  120.
  121. Done! You’ve created a secure VeraCrypt container and mounted it like a virtual encrypted disk.
