It's open season for "sanma" fishing, what one could call a defining aspect of the fall season. August's ranking rewards unveils new foreign equipment to support anti-submarine warfare!

Three ASDIC series sonars arrive early from the land of black tea.
September 28 saw the ASDIC series's preliminary implementation as ranking rewards for August. These new equipment are connected to a new shipgirl to be implemented in the future. These sonar systems were born from the land of black tea's fierce battles with a certain country's submarines, and their superior anti-submarine capabilities are prideworthy.

[It's hard to even guess at what destroyer the Britbong could be.  C, H, I, J, K, and Tribal-class destroyers all had Type 124 ASDIC, and Tribal-class were then upgraded to Type 144/147. Even narrowing it down to destroyers that served with both Warspite and Ark Royal leaves a wide range of possibilities. Note that Tanaka's interview later in the magazine says we are getting Hedgehogs, and Type 144/147 was the first designed to work with ahead-throwing depth charge launchers like the Hedgehog and Squid. I: Thanks for your hard work! This year's fall sure came quick too! Fall!
T: It really did. The sanma season's on full blast this year as well.
I: When it comes to fall in KanColle, that's exactly what comes to mind!
T: Yes, the Fall Sanma Festival!
I: I'll do my best this year as well! I've prepared everything, including my equipment!
T: Sanma are attracted to bright lights, after all! Please prepare as many searchlights as you can. The skilled lookouts who can spot schools of sanma; recon floatplanes, the Ka-type observation autogyro that can slowly search the sea surface, and other such aircraft; active sonars like the Type 3 Active Sonar or ASDIC series, which actually operate on the same principle as fishfinders; etc.
I: Seaplanes too? Would Taitei-chan work too!?
T: That's right. Fishing's more of a side hobby, but with Akitsushima's help it'll be like seabirds circling over fish... anyway, coastal defense ship escorts are also effective.
I: And depth charges!?
T: Frequent use will quickly damage fishing grounds. If possible, please avoid reckless overfishing and use the ocean's resources with care as you fish for sanma.
I: Ah, of course, overfishing is no good.
T: Please make sure to preserve fish stocks by giving fishing grounds ample time to recover as you enjoy this fall's sanma season! Also, during this fall's sanma fishing, you may rarely encounter coastal defense ships on the event maps!
I: Hoooh, coastal defense ships! I heard they were originally built to secure the northern fishing grounds...
T: They actually ended up in fierce surface combat during their escort duties, but for the duration of the Naval District Sanma Festival all existing coastal defense ships can be encountered. Plus, they will also allow for a new form of modernization. ASW, luck, and, given the right conditions, even survivability can be improved - up to a certain limit, HP can be increased in some cases.*
I: That's great! Now if I get a second copy of a given ship, I can use them effectively!
* Make sure to Kai your DE fodder.

T: There will also be further opportunities to encounter coastal defense ships besides this fall's sanma festival. Also, we have plans to add a new Etorofu-class coastal defense shipgirl in the not-so-distant future.
I: Seriously!? I'm looking forward to it!
T: For ASW, we'll be getting the coastal defense ship; ASDIC, Hedgehogs, and other such ASW equipment from the land of black tea, where fierce battles with U-boats unfolded; and land-based anti-submarine patrol aircraft*. Please look forward to it!
I: Enemy submarines really are troublesome, after all. I'd love to bring together the best ASW firepower and try to suppress them!
* Likely the Kyuushuu Q1W Toukai hinted in KanColle Style volume 3.

T: Additionally, you've got your first taste with sanma already, but we'll be putting effort into adding shipgirls casual clothes this year and next.
I: Ah, is that so? Will the number of girls in casual clothes be increasing a bit?
T: More uniforms is a given. As for shipgirls in casual clothes, I'd like to introduce more of them little by little... and so, on top of of fall's sanma and other fall flavors and the Fishing Operation seasonals, we plan on implementing the second phase of fall casual clothes seasonals for shipgirls. These two girls, Amagiri and Sagiri, whom we added in the last summer event... hey!

Equipment Combinations that Allow Night Operations:
Night Operation Aviation Personnel (+ Skilled Deckhands)

Saratoga Mk.II comes with Night Operation Aviation Personnel built in!

By using new equipment in the described combinations, carriers can launch air attacks at night as well. Like other ships, carriers that can now deal large damage, so options for maps where night battles play a large role now have more options for compositions.

Night Operation Aviation Personnel:
A new equipment that supports carrier operations at night. Currently, this is limited to "Night Operation Aviation Personnel" and "Night Operation Aviation Personnel + Skilled Deckhands". They can potentially increase firepower and other stats and modulate range. Saratoga Mk.II can be considered to have night operation personnel similar to these built-in.

Night Fighter (Night Variant Fighter Aircraft)
A new equipment that supports carrier operations at night. Currently, this is limited to the F6F-3N and F6F-5N. They perform like normal fighters during the day and also provide superior stats like accuracy and evasion. Additionally, when combined with Night Operation Aviation Personnel, even carriers become capable of launching strikes at night.

Night Bomber (Night Variant Bomber Aircraft)
A new equipment that supports carrier operations at night. Currently, this is limited to solely the TBM-3D. It performs similarly to night fighters in that they provide superior torpedo and ASW stats, but production is at present limited to a single mission. Equippable to any carrier, it may provide admirals flexibility to their commands.

And what about the carriers that have been able to do nighttime shelling before now...?

Ark Royal (Both Forms, and if equipped with Swordfish)
Graf Zeppelin (Both forms)
The listed shipgirls can participate in night battle, but their attacks are "shelling" and are different from the night attacks described above. Because they do not have the same special ability Saratoga Mk. II has, they must meet the same conditions as listed above if one wishes them to perform strikes at night.

How to Equip Carriers to Launch Night Cut-Ins
Night Cut-In Activation Equipment Combinations (provided the carrier in question already meets the above requirements for night combat):
The following combinations have been confirmed by our editor's department. The night bomber is the TBM-3D, and the night fighters are either F6F-5N or F6F-3N. Swordfish can be any of Swordfish, Swordfish Mk. II (Skilled), or Swordfish Mk. III (Skilled). If more night variant aircraft are added in the future, the number of possible combinations would likely increase.

If a carrier launches a strike in night battle, when it fulfills certain conditions it can perform the special night cut-in as depicted to the left. This is similar to the night cut-ins performed by other ship classes and increases damage when triggered. Such new tactics allow carriers to perform even better in night battle.

"Fighter-Escorted Bomber" Cut-Ins Triggered by Shipborne Aircraft Combinations
Combinations that Trigger "Fighter-Escorted Bomber" Cut-Ins:
Dive Bomber + Dive Bomber + Torpedo Bomber
Fighter + Dive Bomber + Torpedo Bomber
Dive Bomber + Torpedo Bomber

The key to the above combinations is the distribution of dive bombers. The Zero Fighter Model 62 (Fighter-bomber) and other such fighter-bombers also fulfill the criteria, but Ne-type aircraft [jets] apparently do not. If multiple combinations above are satisfied, it seems the one that is triggered is left to chance. More testing needs to be done in live combat.

If the preconditions below are satisfied when launching an attack and the combinations to the left are also satisfied on the carrier in question, a "Fighter-Escorted Bomber" cut-in even more effective than the normal strike is launched. As night-fighters also participate, this enriches the variation in carrier equipment compositions!

Preconditions:
Air superiority or supremacy must be obtained
The shipgirl in question must have planes equipped following the combinations to the left, and must have more than one plane left in each of the slots fulfilling a combination

The Types and Charm Points of the Aircraft of the United States
The types of American planes available in KanColle is growing. Their names follow a fixed alphanumerical rule - understanding it will make it much easier to grasp the peculiarities of each aircraft. We'll be introducing the nomenclature and their improvement/development lineages so you can make use of them!

Alphanumerical names are assigned to each plane based on the rules described below. Besides these names, planes often have nicknames, some of which may be described in illustrated guides.

(1) Aircraft Type
A letter describing the aircraft's type. Of the aircraft currently implemented in KanColle, "F" stands for fighter, "TB" stands for Torpedo Bomber, "SB" stands for Scout Bomber, and "PB" stands for Patrol Bomber.

(2) Fuselage Number Assigned by Manufacturer to the Right
For example, the "6" in "F6F" indicates it is the sixth fighter produced by Grumman. If the number here is different between two planes, you can consider the two to be based on different designs.

(3) Manufacturer
A letter describing the aircraft's manufacturer. Of the aircraft currently implemented in KanColle, "F" stands for Grumman, "D" stands stands for Douglas, "M" stands for General Motors, "U" stands for Vought, and "Y" stands for Consolidated Aircraft.

(4) Model of the Fuselage
In the same way that the F4F-4 is an improvement on the F4F-3, higher version models are indicated by incrementing this number.

(5) Variant Indicators
Even aircraft of the same model may have alphabetical indicators of specific modifications to distinguish them. To put it simply, they start with "A", although there are also some like the "N" in "F6F-5N" that stand for something (Night, in that case).

The F6F-5's High Performance
With +10 AA, the F6F-5 performs as well as a Reppuu. Once maxed out with improvement, it displays performance on par with the Reppuu Kai. However, obtaining one requires a great expense in development materials and resources, so consider your Naval District's resource allocation before committing to development.

The F4F Series... Wildcat
F4F-3: Saratoga's starting equipment. Can be improved into an F4F-4.
F4F-4: Saratoga Kai's starting equipment. Can be improved into an F6F-3.

F6F-3: Can only be obtained through certain quests or through improvement. Can be improved into an F6F-5.
F6F-3N: Once maxed out, an F6F-3 can be converted into this through the quest "Development of the Carrier-Based Night Fighter".
F6F-5: Can only be obtained through certain quests [not true, typo?] or through improvement. Can be improved.

Event Report
2017.9.16(Sat)
This year's KanColle Naval Review, held in East Halls 4, 5, and 6, featured 24 performers, making it the largest event to date! In this report, we look back on this impressive event as we sort through the photographs.

With the utmost gratitude to the Admirals for their support...
The shipgirls' seiyuu assembled in one place for the Kancolle Naval Review live event. For the Fourth Naval Review, the venue was moved to Tokyo Big Sight (Ariake Anchorage), where just under 20,000 people gathered for the afternoon and evening performances for the largest event to date.
With 24 performers, including Taketatsu Ayana by video, the cast was also the largest to date. Beyond just performing the new song "Tsukiyomi"* and many others, in the Drama section the participating shipgirl seiyuu held a large-scale operation as a combined fleet. Fujita Saki's destroyer Suzutsuki's surprise debut and a deluge of new information made for much excitement among the admirals. It was a wonderful event, showing KanColle powering up to continue into the future as the fifth anniversary approaches.

The Fleet Battle dramas go ever further!
Ark Royal, who debuted in the 2017 Summer Event, joins the fleet on parade!
During the naval review section in which shipgirl seiyuu introduced themselves, not only did Akizuki and foreign shipgirls appeared in a live event for the first time, but the new shipgirl Suzutsuki also had her surprise debut.

Exhibition Goods and a Runway Area in the Hall!
An exhibition area for manufacturers' latest goods, a KanColle Arcade construction challenge, and more saw long lines of admirals. In the Runway Area, admirals on standby for admission were able to enjoy stage performances as well.

In four Shiratsuyu-class sisters' "Kanmusu Ondo", the shipgirl seiyuu who participated in the Zuiun Festival taught the choreography. Fujita Saki and others rode a float around the hall, waving with smiles to the admirals in the back as well.

Nishizawa Shiena, the main singer of the anime's ED "Fubuki" and the movie's theme song "Kikan", performed both on stage. As the admirals listened to her powerful voice, they remembered the emotion of the movie.
