  12. 'STEP RIGHT UP! STEP RIGHT UP! Dunk the ling for only a bit! One bit a throw! Do you have the gusto?'
  13.
  14. ~THIS IS BULLSHIT WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS I CAN'T SWIM!~
  15.
  16. 'Step right upppp!'
  17.
  18. >Er, Sunset?
  19.
  20. '...All proceeds are going to the farm.'
  21.
  22. >That ain't really-
  23.
  24. "STEP RIGHT UP!"
  25.
  26. >BIG MAC!
  27.
  28. "Ah' want me a dang new plow, AJ! I WANT ME A NEW ONE!"

  37.
  38. >OKAY YOU WIN!
  39.
  40. "Ha ha! At last, thee understands!"
  41.
  42. >I UNDERSTAND I AM TERRIFIED, YES, YOU WIN! I FEEL FEAR! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
  43.
  44. "Thou fears because of the smallness of thine own existence, right? We knew this would get to thee."
  45.
  46. >NOPE! JUST TERROR! JUST REGULAR OLD I'M GOING TO DIE TERROR! THAT'S WHAT YOU WANTED, RIGHT!?
  47.
  48. "...Well, no, we actually wished thee to see the scope of things, rather than merely feel of mortality. Mortality is easy, thou is going to learn of that on thine own. We want thee to see the vastness, the sheer tiny existence that-"
  49.
  50. >AHHHH OH DEAR HIVEMIND HELP ME I DON'T WANT TO DIE!
  51.
  52. "Thou fears the ocean? Really? What, is it the unfathomable depths? The endless possibilities that lie beneath the surface? Perhaps the ways it consumes all, bringing it into the cold grasp and never letting go until they are done. What is it you fear so, student?"
  53.
  54. >I CAN'T SWIM!
  55.
  56. "...that's it?"
  57.
  58. >I DON'T WANT TO DROWN!
  59.
  60. "Well, no, I don't suppose anyone does, that would be absurd. But still, that is merely the tip of the-"
  61.
  62. >WHO FUCKING CARES I DON'T WANT TO DIE I CAN'T SWIM!
  63.
  64. "...We fear our lesson is not being imparted correctly."
  65.
  66. >AHHHHH!
  67.
  68. "Perhaps learning to swim will help?"
  69.
  70. >NO NO NO NO-
  71.
  72. BLOOP!
  73.
  74. "This is rather easy, Tia taught us so, thou must merely kick thine legs and... student? Huh, thine form is decent for a beginner, but thou still sinks like a stone. Are you really that... oh... OHHHH!... Uh oh."
  75.
  76. BLUB!
  77.
  78. "UH OH!"
  79.
  80. GLRRGLGLG!... Glr... Gl...
  81.
  82. "WE HAVE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE HOLD ON!"
  83.
  84. SPLASH!

  89. 'No no no, Luna, this is very poor form of you'
  90.
  91. "WORRY NOT! I HAVE SAVED HIM!"
  92.
  93. 'Oh please, you're drowning him all wrong, so I really have to demonstrate for you?'
  94.
  95. "BREATHE DAMN YOU! BREA-What?"
  96.
  97. 'Oh Shining~'

  109. "How will we explain this to Twilight?"
  110.
  111. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
  112.
  113. >Fluttershy
  114. "???"
  115. ~~~
  116.
  117. She didn't know how long she had been there. She didn't even know if any time had passed at all. Perhaps things were different up here, as they had been for Luna, or rather Nightmare Moon. Perhaps time simply ceased to be, until she was called again back down to earth. Perhaps time was nothing.
  118.
  119. Much like she felt of herself, at this moment.
  120.
  121. She had never felt more useless in her entire life. Her one singular ability that set her apart, her one field that she felt confidence and capability, and it was failing her.
  122.
  123. It wasn't natural, what Seven was doing, but then again, was her chicken coop natural? What about Angel Bunny, what part of his life was natural at all?
  124.
  125. Worse, who was she, a thing as unnatural as could be, one to speak of the way things were meant to be? Even before she had gained this power to warp the very fabric of reality, she had gone against what was 'natural'. She was a pegasi, a pony designed for the sky, who much preferred the ground. Nothing about her, nothing, had ever been 'natural'.
  126.
  127. But still, was this... too far? Was this, perhaps, just a step beyond? To remove from the ecosystem the predators, that surely would cause chaos as surely as her powers out of control, right? Could Seven be pushing things too far, and she the only one who could stop it?
  128.
  129. Perhaps... it shouldn't be her, as it never was. She should simply go to Twilight, or to Celestia, tell them of what has happened, and let them decide. They are smarter, wiser than her, surely they would know far better than her what to do...
  130.
  131. And that's what really hurt.
  132.
  133. The one time when she should be as useful as can be, a real team player in the grand scheme of things, and she was only thinking of passing the buck and hoping someone else could actually handle it.
  134.
  135. All her knowledge, all her power, and she was still just little old Fluttershy... worthless.
  136.
  137. "Marvelous view, isn't it?'
  138.
  139. She jumped, quite literally out of her skin. She left behind nothing but what looked like a her patterned sheet, while her skeleton clattered with fear. From seemingly nowhere, she summoned up her entire house, rushing inside and hiding in her closet at the speed of light.
  140.
  141. Shaking, she hid as best she could, so out of it she only now realized she was, in fact, still on the moon. Who, she wondered, could have possibly followed her here?
  142.
  143. As if she needed to ask.
  144.
  145. >D-Discord?
  146.
  147. "Hello!"
  148.
  149. With snap, the rest of her house was torn away, sent back to where it belonged. Leaving behind nothing else but her closet, and herself beneath any unworn or unfinished clothing. The door creaked open, allowing her to see as ge waved to her, unperturbed by her state, and sipped on his coconut while reclining back in his sun-chair, never even bothering to tilt his sunglasses.
  150.
  151. "Fluttershy! Marvelous! I love having company out here! What brings you to this place?"
  152.
  153. Relieved, she made her way out, brushing aside a pair of socks from her bony head as she once more set hoof on the lunar surface. The moment she left it, it was snapped away, no doubt to return to the place it had been before.
  154.
  155. "Oh my, did I catch you at a bad time? You're not even dressed!
  156.
  157. He pretended to hide his eyes behind his hands, not so subtly leaving a crack to peer through, while the skeletal pony let out an EEK and covered her body as best as a skeleton could.
  158.
  159. >D-DISCORD!
  160.
  161. He smirked, giving a little snap to return her to her former state... and managing nothing.
  162.
  163. "Oh, right... forget that sometimes."
  164.
  165. She flushed in embarrassment, concentrating until once more skin and organs and fur grew back from the nothing, her remains behind her shriveling up in tandem until she was normal once more.
  166.
  167. Well, as normal as it gets for her anymore, really.
  168.
  169. >What are you doing here?
  170.
  171. "Me? I'm simply here for the view. The bigger question is... what is little old you doing here?"
  172.
  173. She sighed, shuffling her hooves awkwardly as she took a seat next to him, watching the bright blue orb of their world from afar.
  174.
  175. >You wouldn't understand.
  176.
  177. "Oh, so it's completely sane and uncomplicated in any form and thus boring. Noted!"
  178.
  179. >It's not that.
  180.
  181. "Well then, I'd say my odds of understanding are a lot higher than you think."
  182.
  183. >...It started this morning.
  184.
  185. It was cathartic, recounting her tale. Summing up every twist of her life these last few hours had brought. She needed this, to let it all out. For once, a rarity for him to be sure, he listened... in silence.
  186.
  187. Until the end, at least.
  188.
  189. >I don't... oh, I just don't know what to do...
  190.
  191. "...Marvelous!"
  192.
  193. She had no time to question his elated outburst before he corrected his oh so subtle act with rapturous explosions of fireworks and lights, the grin on his fave every bit as bright as one of them.
  194.
  195. "Oh, how marvelous! How chaotic and wild! Oh, it seems I've far underestimated that little bug if he managed to pull this off all by his lonesome. The complete upheaval of the natural order, the creation of a whole new intelligent species. Just imagining all of the chaos that could come from this... mmm... that hits me in the sweet spot."
  196.
  197. He did not even try to hide it, not even for her sake. His eyes alight with delight at all of the insanity and new things this would bring. He never stopped, not for a moment.
  198.
  199. Not even when her eyes went wide with horror.
  200.
  201. >T-that's... that's awful! So... so I should stop him! Make him make things go back to the way they were! I can't let that happen!
  202.
  203. "...why not?"
  204.
  205. He seemed confused, utterly confused, as to why anyone would even consider it.
  206.
  207. >Why not!? What about all of the chaos you just said this would cause! What about all the upheaval and stuff! You just said it!
  208.
  209. "Well, yes, there will be chaos, and there will be quite a lot of changes, but is that really a problem?"
  210.
  211. >Yes!
  212.
  213. "But why?"
  214.
  215. >Because everything was better when it was normal!
  216.
  217. Her screech seemed to be the thing that, at last, causes space to remember that it was a vacuum, with no air to vibrate.
  218.
  219. For, following that, there was silence.
  220.
  221. "...oh."
  222.
  223. He drooped, positively slumped, after she finished. His arms hanging low, his face much the same, and for once there were no powers, no magic, nothing at all. Just him.
  224.
  225. Him, and her, and the emptiness between them, as her words reached her own ears.
  226.
  227. >I didn't mean it like that.
  228.
  229. "Yes you did."
  230.
  231. Any further denials died on her tongue, quite literally. Every letter shriveling up and letting out one last gasp of breath.
  232.
  233. She could not have asked for a better way to describe to him the why.
  234.
  235. "I was just trying to help."
  236.
  237. >I know, I know and I'm not mad, but-
  238.
  239. "But what!?'
  240.
  241. He snapped, a bit of bitterness making it's way in. He let out a scoff and turned, the whole moon turning with him, as he faced away from the floating pony.
  242.
  243. "All you ponies kept saying was I need to help more or use my powers for good or be a better friend, and then when I actually do it to cheer a friend up, everyone turns on me! Ha! I may laugh when a pony trips and falls, but at least I'm not a hypocrite!"
  244.
  245. >Discord...
  246.
  247. He crossed his arms, bending over with a sour frown on his face. The ash of the moon formed a tiny little version of him in front of himself, one that comfortingly patted his larger arm while shooting an angry glare towards the pony.
  248.
  249. "I was trying to help, is that so wrong? What, is being like me really so bad? Oh, I see how it is. Just fine when you want old Discord's chaos powers, but being like him? Never! What's wrong with a little chaos? Is this what you want instead!?"
  250.
  251. He snapped, hard. Enough to rattle the stones on the ground with it's force. From his power, he conjured a planet. One that was round, grey and lifeless. Little things marching atop it, going about lives of their own in perfect file, perfect fashion, never deviating, never changing.
  252.
  253. "This is what you ponies want, is it? It's all the same! It's all so... boring!"
  254.
  255. >Well, no, but-
  256.
  257. He snapped his fingers, and suddenly that simple grey world was awash with color, life and excitement. It boomed and burst from every corner as all sorts of crazy things came alive and danced atop it. Nothing was the same way twice, nothing made sense in logic, it was a time of little else but incomprehensible excitement.
  258.
  259. "See? Don't you agree this is so much better? Time is so short on this planet for everyone, what's wrong with cutting loose! Would you rather two years of fun and chaos or two hundred of the same old same old? Chaos! Chaos is the thing of life, not order! Order is just... boring.
  260.
  261. He looked so proud as he watched them, even as his chaotic little world boomed and exploded, little things atop it burning or being hurt by the madness.
  262.
  263. He saw things as they should be, she saw... something else.
  264.
  265. >...it's too much...
  266.
  267. He winced at the broken, defeated tone in her voice, his mini-version exploding with a scream and a wail as he did so. He was slow as he turned back to her, not wanting to see the look on her face.
  268.
  269. Feeling it right in the pit of his gut when he finally saw her.
  270.
  271. >I... I can't handle it sometimes. It's too much, and it was too much too fast. I didn't know what to do, I didn't know how to handle it... I still don't. It changed everything in just... just a snap. Just a snap and my whole life was different.
  272.
  273. He winced again, no longer able to look at her.
  274.
  275. "Was that really so bad? Pfft! I'll bet your life was different before miss oh so smart and sparkles came to town, wasn't it?"
  276.
  277. He snapped, creating a massive, glowing statue of Twilight made from the finest crystal, a beacon of light and hope and wonder as she stood proudly with a heroic look on her face.
  278.
  279. Wide, sparkling eyes looked to it, drinking it in, pondering over the words. That, and the truth they held...
  280.
  281. >...it was. It was... it was so different.
  282.
  283. "So, what!? Is it because it was me? Oh, I see, it's different if I do it! If she flips your whole life upside down and changes everything, it's just fine! But when I do it, it's a problem! What did she bring to your life, if not chaos? HMM?"
  284.
  285. >... she did that. She made everything... different.
  286.
  287. "Ah ha!"
  288.
  289. Accusingly, he thrust a finger at her, streamers of triumph going off behind him and a victory parade starting up.
  290.
  291. "I was right, it is because it was me!"
  292.
  293. >...no.
  294.
  295. "NO!?"
  296.
  297. >When you first came... I was... I was happy.
  298.
  299. Behind him, those streamers lost their color, and luster. Becoming nothing as they floated in the void.
  300.
  301. "What?"
  302.
  303. >When you first said you wanted to be my friend, really wanted to... I was happy. That changed a lot too. For the first time, I had a friend like you! I'd never had one just like you... I don't think anyone ever did. I was happy when you brought some chaos to me.
  304.
  305. His accusing finger lowered to the ground, with it, everything in the parade slumping low, becoming grey and mushy.
  306.
  307. >And when Twilight did it, it was great. And when Applejack and Pinkie and Dash did it... it was all so much fun. I never had friends like these before. I never really... got out there before. I don't think I ever would have either. I think if something hadn't happened, I'd still be... alone. And I think you would be too.
  308.
  309. His breath, vacant as it was in the emptiness of the moon, hitched.
  310.
  311. >We wouldn't be friends, would we?
  312.
  313. "...No... And you'd be... normal."
  314.
  315. >But that would mean I wasn't normal before I met you either.
  316.
  317. He pondered it, mulling it over a bit.
  318.
  319. He couldn't find a rebuttal.
  320.
  321. >Things... changed. They changed a lot. But... but it wasn't too much. I thought I couldn't handle it sometimes... but I did.
  322.
  323. She looked to him, at last looked to him again.
  324.
  325. And she was smiling.
  326.
  327. >Didn't things change for you too? This isn't how you were. Does that mean things aren't... normal for you?
  328.
  329. "I never knew the meaning anyway.
  330.
  331. >Was it too much?
  332.
  333. That, he found, he could not answer right away.
  334.
  335. He missed it, really missed being able to cut loose, to bend minds to his whims, to break and twist and everything in between. He missed it, oh how he missed it, oh how he wanted things to be as they were, with him free to do as he so pleased...
  336.
  337. But it made his friend sad.
  338.
  339. >You didn't change all the way right there, did you?
  340.
  341. "..."
  342.
  343. >Maybe... maybe that's why. I didn't change all the way either. I still had my animals, I was still shy, but this... You did this because when you tried to change all the way at once, it was... too much. It was a thing you thought, anyone would have thought, was doing good... but it was too much... and I'm sorry.
  344.
  345. He couldn't move, feeling as stiff as he had in his thousand year imprisonment when he felt her move forwards and wrap her hooves around him, the yellow limbs stretching like rubber to wrap around and around his middle to do so.
  346.
  347. Shaking, unsteady and powerless claws reached up, reached out.
  348.
  349. And returned the hug, without a single bit of power to them.
  350.
  351. "I'm... I'm sorry."
  352.
  353. >I know you are... and it's okay.
  354.
  355. "I'm sorry..."
  356.
  357. She was the first, perhaps the only one, to ever hear it repeated. To ever hear it so sincerely said.
  358.
  359. "I was trying to help."
  360.
  361. >...you did...
  362.
  363. She understood now. Some of it, at least.
  364.
  365. Not all of it, she didn't understand all of it, not yet. But she understood the first steps.
  366.
  367. >Things being the same sometimes... is good. Chaos... is good.
  368.
  369. She did not say it, yet it spoke to both of them as loudly as if she had shouted it with enough force the world below would shake. The end of the line...
  370.
  371. Not too much.
  372.
  373. She didn't have all the answers yet.
  374.
  375. But she, both of them, were finding them. Finding them as they watched the planet in his claws lose it's chaos, upend its order, and find...
  376.
  377. Harmony.
  378.
  379. >I think... I need to talk to someone.
  380.
  381. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

  384. "SA"
  385. ~~~
  386.
  387. Maybe the candle was going to burn down the restaurant.
  388.
  389. ...Nope. Seems they had followed the proper safety fire protocols she had made mandatory and it had been placed in a proper area with proper fire countermeasures all in the right place. It was fine.
  390.
  391. Maybe that waiter was going to trip and stab someone with that fork... nope, seems like he's well rested and wearing proper attire, so he's conscious enough to keep standing.
  392.
  393. Maybe the food was bad and they were all about to be poisoned and throw up on each other and die.... nope, seems it was properly prepared, and following all safety standards for perishable foods.
  394.
  395. Maybe it's ninjas... are ninjas a thing? Ninjas probably aren't a thing.... but wait, isn't that what a ninja would want you to think? ...Ninjas aren't a thing.
  396.
  397. So maybe...
  398.
  399. "So THEN Two says to me, 'Know what'cer thinkin'. Did Ah' fire six times or only five? And ya' gotta ask yer'self... does she know how ta' count that high yet? Welll, the answer's gonna surprise ya' cause its only sometimes if I don't get distracted! Do ya' think I got distracted by that butterfly over there? Well? Do ya', friend?" And then I got shot in the eye by the squirtgun."
  400.
  401. Maybe she was missing something she should really be paying attention to.
  402.
  403. >...Wait, wait a minute, why-
  404.
  405. "Don't."
  406.
  407. >...why-
  408.
  409. "Dooon't."
  410.
  411. >...Why was she counting?
  412.
  413. "I don't know."
  414.
  415. >Huh.
  416.
  417. "...Something feels off, doesn't it?"
  418.
  419. That was putting it mildly.
  420.
  421. >Nope! Nothing at all! Everything is juuuust fine. Just fine!
  422.
  423. "Really? Because your eyes have been bouncing around like pingpong balls all night."
  424.
  425. Shit.
  426.
  427. "Worried something is going to go wrong?"
  428.
  429. >...
  430.
  431. "Eighteen? It'll be fine."
  432.
  433. >...yeah...
  434.
  435. It'll be fine.
  436.
  437. It'll be juuuust fine.
  438.
  439. ...So long as ninjas don't exist.
