- Looking for a thought provoking, strong narrative experience? Well then look no further then virtual virtual reality, a mind bending single-player story that is up there with the best, and as such is entering my list of oculus quest essentials. Now lets begin this spoiler free review beginning with objective and game-play.
- Virtual virtual reality is an amazing experience that really deserves to be played. The game has you placed in a virtual world where robot AI have now taken over control under the name of Activitude, the story begins to question whether humanity really has a purpose now that AI has taken over, throughout the game you will be tasked with doing contract work for various objects and AI that can range from putting toast on a piece of butter who likes that feeling a little too much, to reminiscing with a mega city AI on what it used to be like when humans roamed the streets, it uses teleportation based movement and you interact with world by pulling and pushing objects toward you to get most jobs done. The game play expands slightly but ill let you discover that yourself so I don't spoil anything story related. With that said everything can be done from a distance so that makes this a great seated experience if you prefer to play that way. The game does not offer smooth locomotion though so if that's how you prefer to play do take note of that. Next up let's talk features and content.
- It features various mini game like activities but ultimately the game serves more as an guided experience than a game. It features fantastic voice acting that really help you get drawn into the game. It took me a little over 2 hours to play-through start to finish. While I dont see myself coming back to the game after completion, it will definitely stay installed on my quest, its the perfect type of experience I would recommend to anyone and makes for a great show case title for introducing what virtual reality is to those who are new to it. Another great feature the game offers is multiple save states, this is something we need to see more of in vr titles in general. Next up let's discuss visuals and immersion.
- Visually speaking the game is very charming and looks clean with its bright and colorful art-style and areas toward the later half of the game really do an excellent job and matching the tone and mood desired. When it comes to immersion though, the thing that really sells the experience has to be the games absolutely amazing writing and voice acting, they absolutely nailed at making the story intriguing and very thought provoking, by the end of my play-through it really left an impression on me as im sure it will to most.
- Overall virtual virtual reality is one of the best narrative experiences that can be had in VR. Its a game that shouldn't be missed and one I cant recommend enough for those of you who have just picked up a VR headset. It is a bit on the short side but the quality more than makes up for that short coming and believe me when I say that there is a lot more to this game then what you've seen here so if your even remotely interested in it just do yourself a favor and pick it up. It offers a solid narrative that will have you invested, featuring a great cast of characters with amazing voice acting. While it may not have smooth locomotion or a long play-through time, I find it hard to not highly recommend this one.
