  1. [11:30:28 PM CDT] <Satori> =====---ACT V---=====
  2. [11:48:26 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [After arrival, there is a changing of the guard and those on the observation platform are ushered back into the rest of the camp while soldiers stand watch. As always, everything looks like it's routine with the State. You are shown the underground bunkhouse and retire for the rest of the night. It's daytime when you awaken, and upon returning to the surface, you find that leaving the camp is forbidden before the inspections are complete. Yo
  3. [11:48:26 PM CDT] <[Cy]> u are thus free to wander until further notice.]
  4. [12:01:33 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne gets out of bed and gets dressed. After putting on her boots, she considers donning her pouch harness, but ultimately only grabs her longsword before walking off in search of Ryla.
  5. [12:06:10 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [You wander around, but you don't find Ryla in the bunkrooms.]
  6. [12:07:00 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne looks for Ram instead.
  7. [12:08:00 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> !roll 1d8 + 1d6 + 1 Int & Lck Searching
  8. [12:08:01 AM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [110]_Hanne rolled: {5}=> 5 + {3}=> 3 + 1 = 9 "Int & Lck Searching"
  9. [12:08:23 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [You wander around, but you don't find Ram in the bunkrooms either.]
  10. [12:09:29 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne moves her search to the next level up.
  11. [12:14:36 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [The floor above contains the mess, two meeting chambers, and water room. You find Ram in the mess.]
  12. [12:16:06 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne casually walks over to Ram and greets him:
  13. [12:16:14 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> 'Morning Ram.
  14. [12:17:22 AM CDT] <[Cy]> Ram: Fair morning to you, Hanne.
  15. [12:19:25 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Would you happen to have a pair of scissors I could borrow? I'll only need them for a short while.
  16. [12:21:05 AM CDT] <[Cy]> Ram: They are for gardening, but I do have a set.
  17. [12:21:59 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Ram pulls up a sleeve and unwraps a thick band from his forearm, laying it out to display a kit of small tools. He takes out the shears and hands it to you.]
  18. [12:23:11 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I can make do. I'll return then once I'm done. Thanks!
  19. [12:23:43 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne waves at Ram before turning around and heading back down to the bunkrooms.
  20. [12:25:48 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Ram bundles up his roll and returns to his breakfast.]
  21. [12:27:29 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne walks over to her pack, rummaging around until she produces a towel. Slinging it over her shoulder, Hanne hums quietly to herself as she takes the stairs back up to the surface.
  22. [12:29:52 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [It's sunny with a light breeze from the ocean, thick clouds float by far overhead. A variety of people come and go from the surface buildings and the stairs down below.]
  23. [12:32:52 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne looks about until she finds a suitable place to sit. After laying down the towel, Hanne gets to work; shearing her hair until its about her desired length.
  24. [12:36:13 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [It takes a bit, but you think you manage, not that you have anything to see your work with.]
  25. [12:38:25 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne tidies herself up before wiping down the shears to make sure it's free of any small hairs. Once satisfied, Hanne descends down to the mess to look for Ram.
  26. [12:39:16 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Ram is no longer where you last saw him.]
  27. [12:39:59 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> !roll 1d8 + 1d6 + 1 Int & Lck Searching
  28. [12:40:00 AM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [110]_Hanne rolled: {2}=> 2 + {4}=> 4 + 1 = 7 "Int & Lck Searching"
  29. [12:41:32 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne returns to the bunkrooms.
  30. [12:42:02 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [You do not find Ram, but you do see his stuff.]
  31. [12:45:28 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne goes over to her bed and dons her pouch harness. She then packs up her armour into her bag and heads towards the armoury.
  32. [12:49:11 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [You find the armoury a floor down. During the months near Ynnishire, the craftspeople amassed a stockpile of assorted equipment for examination. Thus, the armoury is rather full of stuff stacked along the walls.]
  33. [12:57:17 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne looks around to see if there's anyone she could speak to.
  34. [12:59:20 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Currently, there are two yintem present, examining a sword.]
  35. [1:00:33 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne goes up to them:
  36. [1:01:21 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Hey, I'm looking for some armour, are you the ones to talk to?
  37. [1:02:58 AM CDT] <[Cy]> Y1: The lead staff for crafting is not presently here, we can log your request if scavenging the samples does not suffice.
  38. [1:03:54 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Alright, am I free to just look around then?
  39. [1:04:36 AM CDT] <[Cy]> Y1: You may.
  40. [1:05:07 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> !roll 1d8 + 1d6 + 1 Int & Lck Browsing
  41. [1:05:08 AM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [110]_Hanne rolled: {5}=> 5 + {4}=> 4 + 1 = 10 "Int & Lck Browsing"
  42. [1:06:05 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> !roll 1d5 Armour Find
  43. [1:06:06 AM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [110]_Hanne rolled: {1}=> 1 = 1 "Armour Find"
  44. [1:07:20 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne holds up the piece of plate and inspects it. She then produces her own breastplate from her pack and places the plackart against it to see the fit.
  45. [1:08:10 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [It will take some work to adjust. The piece you found was made for someone far larger.]
  46. [1:15:03 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne shrugs and packs it up along with her breastplate. She then heads to the general supply room.
  47. [1:18:30 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [You find the storeroom on the same level as the armoury, and far better organized too. A desk is placed near the door, where two yintem are talking about something.]
  48. [1:21:12 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne walks up.
  49. [1:27:31 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [The pair finish their chat about the restaurant on Block 81,20 and look at you.]
  50. [1:27:56 AM CDT] <[Cy]> Y2: What do you need provided?
  51. [1:30:13 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I'm looking for a sewing kit, a length of fabric in yellow, as well as smaller lengths in black and white.
  52. [1:32:55 AM CDT] <[Cy]> Y2: How coarse would you prefer your fabric?
  53. [1:35:07 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I wouldn't mind something on the heavier side. Of course I can make do with lighter fabrics as well.
  54. [1:44:41 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [The two of them get out of their seats and head into the depths of the shelves, disappearing for a while before returning with spools of fabric and a set of needles for sewing. The yellow is more a tan colour than actual yellow, however. They roll out the lengths and cut to your liking.]
  55. [1:59:01 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne thanks the works before taking the items and returning to the bunkrooms. The rest of the day is then spent working on a surcoat, as well as her daily sword drills.
  56.
  57. [4:41:17 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow sits up in her bed. She spends a while before she swings herself out of it and dresses herself. She sets out of the door, seeking a sign of where the Ynni captives might be.
  58. [4:44:33 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> !roll 1d8 + 3 + 1d6 Int & Lck
  59. [4:44:35 PM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [Multi]_Meadow rolled: {4}=> 4 + 3 + {2}=> 2 = 9 "Int & Lck"
  60. [4:46:15 PM CDT] <[Co]> [Meadow wanders around the halls on the bunkhouse floor, seeing nothing that indicates the presence of prisoners.]
  61. [4:49:47 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> !roll 1d20 + 1d8 + 3 Cha & Int
  62. [4:49:48 PM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [Multi]_Meadow rolled: {18}=> 18 + {3}=> 3 + 3 = 24 "Cha & Int"
  63. [4:54:54 PM CDT] <[Co]> [A bit more wandering and you find River and Hill standing at a stairway talking.]
  64. [4:55:35 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow stands by and waits for their conversation to end.
  65. [4:57:52 PM CDT] <[Co]> [A short while later, River descends the stairs and Hill takes the flight up.]
  66. [4:58:17 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Administrator.
  67. [5:00:22 PM CDT] <[Co]> [River pauses on the second step and turns to look at Meadow.]
  68. [5:00:28 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I was wondering what's become of the surrendered Ynnis.
  69. [5:04:13 PM CDT] <[Co]> River: They are being housed in one of the watchposts topside, why?
  70. [5:05:03 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I was wondering if it would be possible for me to speak with one of them.
  71. [5:07:46 PM CDT] <[Co]> River: Fine. Their movements aren't restricted, they just keep to one place on their own.
  72. [5:08:17 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Understood. Thank you.
  73. [5:12:13 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow ascends to the surface of the transplanted butte, and begins to visit watchposts, asking where she might find the new captives.
  74. [5:20:14 PM CDT] <[Co]> [There are only three of the squat, cylindrical structures enshrouded by trees, and none of them are guarded. After peeking into two and finding an active watch, the last one turns out to be a well furnished house of sorts, with several cots and tables and chairs already in place, with shelves being affixed when you arrive. The Ynni are in small groups talking amongst themselves.]
  75. [5:21:27 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow checks the room for the maid's presence.
  76. [5:23:11 PM CDT] <[Co]> [Near as you can see, they're all here. Your particular maid is with Virothuin, with two other similarly dressed humans.]
  77. [5:26:06 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow takes a deep breath, seeing that the maid is with Virothuin. She walks slowly up to the group, and makes a shot dip to Virothuin in deference before asking her,
  78. [5:26:07 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Excuse me. I was wondering if I might speak with your chambermaid for a while.
  79. [5:29:19 PM CDT] <[Co]> V: Which one do you wish to speak to?
  80. [5:30:13 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow gestures to the maid in question.
  81. [5:30:39 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> This lady.
  82. [5:32:47 PM CDT] <[Co]> [Virothuin nods lightly at the young lady, who stands and straightens her dress, taking a few steps up the nearby ramp leading to the panoramic windows.]
  83. [5:34:09 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow follows the maid up the ramp.
  84. [5:39:30 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow spends a long time looking down, standing next to the maid. Eventually, she decides on something to say:
  85. [5:39:33 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I understand that I've done something terrible to you.
  86. [5:41:11 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: What do you think that is?
  87. [5:42:03 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I have helped to rob your city and your people of its leadership and embroil it in war.
  88. [5:48:13 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I have lied to you. I told you I was someone I was not, and that I felt penitent for desecrating an place that was important to your people, when in truth I was even then ready to trespass again.
  89. [5:50:32 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: I can't blame you for that, not when you are so like me. When Master told me about you, I didn't believe that anyone would all that for pay; but seeing this *she gestures towards the City beyond the window*, I can believe it now.
  90. [5:51:12 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow lets out a breath, and relaxes a bit, bringing her gaze off the floor and towards the maid.
  91. [5:51:17 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: I would have lied for my Master, because my loyalty is like that.
  92. [5:51:30 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow nods her head slowly.
  93. [5:51:43 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Yes. I'm glad we understand each other.
  94. [5:53:09 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I came here today not hoping to earn your forgiveness, but merely wishing to communicate my respect for you. It's... [[She chuckles slightly.]] It's rather a relief to hear that you don't think ill of me.
  95. [5:55:34 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: We all have to live somehow, Master told me that. Knowing that, I can't think too poorly of you as you are doing what you are paid to.
  96. [5:59:08 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> You know... If you had told me, before the State came, when I was still living with my family, that I would be consorting with theives and murderers, and doing everything that I am, I would have said that no amount of money would have persuaded me to act this way. And it was not for money that I came into the service of the State. I told the Count as much; that I would not have entered my service for money alone.
  97. [6:00:55 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: But Master said you were employed by them, just working for them, what do you get if not money?
  98. [6:03:45 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> As I told the Count, I entered my service to further the ideals of Order and Harmony. And I still do think that this is the State's ultimate goal. But it all looks so different from what I expected. From what I'd learned from the great thinkers.
  99. [6:07:32 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: Your great thinkers haven't seen this then. Did they think that order and harmony would be everyone's? We knew from the start that our order and harmony was Master's work, that it would be for Master's people. We've never believed that those things would come from everyone just agreeing to it.
  100. [6:08:02 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow smiles.
  101. [6:10:36 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I was just as impressed, the first time I witnessed the glory of the State. And it was much diminished, then, compared to what it's become. I know how awesome it can be, to see this people and their works in such precise, smooth functioning. It is impossible to ignore the order they bring with them, wherever they go.
  102. [6:12:36 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> And this is what impressed me, what agreed with the thoughts of the great thinkers, at least as far as I understood them. This is what convinced me to leave my family and seek to aid them.
  103. [6:16:08 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: And that's why we are just glad Master had the grace to bring us along. We're with the winds now.
  104. [6:16:25 PM CDT] <[Co]> [The maid turns away from the window to look back at her group.]
  105. [6:18:01 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: Do you know where Mekoos is?
  106. [6:19:35 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I do not.
  107. [6:21:09 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: Weird. I had always wondered where he came from.
  108. [6:21:31 PM CDT] <[Co]> [She starts walking down the ramp from the observation platform.]
  109. [6:21:56 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Where who came from?
  110. [6:23:18 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: Mekoos, where he came from.
  111. [6:23:50 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Is Mekoos a place, or a person?
  112. [6:27:05 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: Mekoos is our tailor, made most of Master's wardrobe and some of ours too. Has the ears like the people around here. He was in Master's kitchen when you came barging in.
  113. [6:32:05 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Oh, him. I spoke with him once, actually, when I was prisoner in the Palace. When I asked he simply said that he came from "far away." Thinking that he was most likely another agent of the State, I didn't press him further, for fear of betraying myself as another.
  114. [6:34:53 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: He's been with us for over three years though.
  115. [6:36:21 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Then perhaps there's more to his story. I'd be curious to hear it, if ever you get a chance to find out. Or were you going to go look for him now?
  116. [6:37:38 PM CDT] <[Co]> [The maid gives you a deadpan expression.]
  117. [6:38:03 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: Some of us can't speak the languages in the rest of this place, you know. Who would I ask? How would I ask?
  118. [6:38:46 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I thought you'd ask him. I know he speaks Khashi, and I would expect him to speak Ranik as well, being in the service of the Count...
  119. [6:39:58 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: He's not here if you haven't noticed *sweeps her arm around the room*, he hasn't been with us since we got here. That's why I asked.
  120. [6:42:24 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I can ask after him, if you'd like. Well, I'm curious to know, as well, so I'm sure I will. If you'd like, I can try to tell you whatever I find out.
  121. [6:45:01 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: That would be good. We just want to know if he's okay.
  122. [6:45:58 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'll see what I can find out.
  123. [6:47:13 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Thank you for talking with me. You are a credit to your Count and your people. I'll return when I have some news about Mekoos.
  124. [6:48:12 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: She's not a Count anymore, have you forgotten what just happened?
  125. [6:48:57 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> My apologies. I was simply trying not to be rude. What address does she prefer, then?
  126. [6:50:03 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: I don't know, but reminding us of our home somewhere else isn't going to help.
  127. [6:54:14 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Again, I apologize. I know that you'll not be mistreated here, and I hope that you and everyone else find a good life, wherever you may end up.
  128. [6:55:25 PM CDT] <[Co]> M: Whatever, just go if you have nothing else to do here.
  129. [6:56:20 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> After speaking with you, I don't believe I do. Good day.
  130. [6:57:08 PM CDT] <[Co]> [The maid returns to her group.]
  131. [6:57:26 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow exits the watchpost and returns to the bunkhouse, finding the stairwell she saw River descending earlier and going down it herself in search of her.
  132. [7:00:19 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne , having completed her daily drilling atop the butte, washes up before heading down towards the mess hall to grab a bite.
  133. [7:31:14 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow walks down the hallway, looking into the rooms. Encountering a mess, she walks in and casts her eyes over the people there, checking for River.
  134. [7:32:55 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne spots Meadow by the door way and waves at her from table.
  135. [7:34:10 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow 's attention is caught by Hanne's wave; she walks over to her.
  136. [7:35:28 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [Besides Hanne, the dining facility is quite full. Meadow recognizes Hill and Cliff at a table with the rest of 5th Section, though she isn't too certain because they don't often appear without their helmets and visors.]
  137. [7:36:54 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne gulps down the bread she'd been chewing.
  138. [7:37:23 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Hey Meadow. You here for a bite? The stew is quite decent today.
  139. [7:37:59 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I was looking for River, actually, or someone who might be able to tell me the whereabouts of one of the captives from Ynnishire.
  140. [7:39:46 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne looks at Meadow with some puzzlement.
  141. [7:39:58 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Oh? Why's that?
  142. [7:40:54 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> They had a Yintem with them, Mekoos. Apparently, he's been with them for a number of years, and I'm curious to know how he ended up there.
  143. [7:43:03 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Is it strange that he's there? Do Yintem not leave the State?
  144. [7:43:37 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I don't know. That's part of why I'd like to find out.
  145. [7:43:47 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Huh.
  146. [7:44:03 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne takes another bite of bread.
  147. [7:45:21 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I don't suppose you'd have any leads on that?
  148. [7:46:27 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I'm afraid not. Your first idea is probably best, I'm sure River knows.
  149. [7:47:10 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Besides that though, are you busy after? I might need your help with something.
  150. [7:47:26 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Not so busy, I should think. What do you need help with?
  151. [7:49:35 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> You remember those fairies Ryla and I recovered? I may need a mage's assistance with identifying their use.
  152. [7:50:03 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I can see what I can do, but I've never dealt with them before. I don't know how I'd tell what they're good for.
  153. [7:52:37 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I'm sure it'll come to you.
  154. [7:52:50 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne finishes her meal and gets up.
  155. [7:53:27 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> In the meantime I'll accompany you on your search; I figure I ought to learn more about the people I work for.
  156. [7:53:57 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Good luck with that, then. In my experience, they always tell you more than you expect, but never what you asked.
  157. [7:54:23 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I think I saw Hill a ways over. He was talking with River earlier, he might be able to point us in the right direction.
  158. [7:54:42 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Who's Hill?
  159. [7:55:47 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> A Yintem. We were both part of a prior operation.
  160. [7:56:28 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I see. Well see what he knows; I'm going to put this tray away.
  161. [7:56:49 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow walks over to where Hill and Cliff are seated.
  162. [7:57:20 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne picks up the the tray and walks towards the collection rack.
  163. [7:58:44 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [5th Section here are a far cry from the statuesque soldiers when they're outside. Their present din seems to be about the raid in the catacombs.]
  164. [8:00:00 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow takes the next available moment when Hill isn't engaged in conversation to call his name once she is near.
  165. [8:01:02 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [A few of them look to you, including Hill.]
  166. [8:01:07 PM CDT] <[Cy]> Hill: Yes?
  167. [8:01:20 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> You wouldn't know where I could find River, would you?
  168. [8:04:48 PM CDT] <[Cy]> Hill: The princess went down to inspect the cages, bottom floor.
  169. [8:04:50 PM CDT] <[Co]> Grove: You know she doesn't want to be referred to as such.
  170. [8:05:02 PM CDT] <[Cy]> Marsh: It's the truth, though.
  171. [8:05:10 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [Hill nods sagely.]
  172. [8:05:49 PM CDT] <[Co]> Grove: It's not actually the truth, haven't been for years.
  173. [8:06:28 PM CDT] <[Cy]> Marsh: You don't need to tell us, we were there fool.
  174. [8:07:19 PM CDT] <[Co]> Glacier: She still doesn't like it.
  175. [8:08:03 PM CDT] <[Cy]> Hill: Nobody likes how it happened.
  176. [8:09:03 PM CDT] <[Co]> Cliff: Anyway Meadow, River should still be downstairs inspecting the crystals holding the defiler spirits. You can go and check.
  177. [8:10:02 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Thank you. The raid went well?
  178. [8:12:05 PM CDT] <[Co]> Cliff: Of course. Once we had the imagery of the place, we swept the resistance and then brought in the sages to seal their god. Almost like a drill.
  179. [8:12:33 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Congratulations on a job well done, then.
  180. [8:13:55 PM CDT] <[Co]> Cliff: And to you for your part in the operation.
  181. [8:14:37 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Glad we could help.
  182. [8:14:43 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow gives a polite nod and wave, and walks off to find the downstairs where River is said to be.
  183. [8:22:17 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [You head down several flights of stairs until there are no more stairs downwards and walk along the corridor. Finding a door, you look into a large central chamber, almost as wide as the surface of the butte up top, with three cubes suspended from scaffolding and gantries. The cubes glow with a deep blue light, though the blue in two of them swirl violently with grey and black streaks within. A collection of races of the State are here, amon
  184. [8:22:17 PM CDT] <[Cy]> gst them is River.]
  185. [8:25:33 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow approaches River.
  186. [8:25:35 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Were these all captured during this previous operation?
  187. [8:27:57 PM CDT] <[Cy]> River: Yes. We found those two haunting the camps *indicates the swirly cubes*. All who were magic sensitive reported unease within days of arrival. In our construction we discovered the source and sealed them, one from each camp.
  188. [8:29:04 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> And it's rare, you said, to find these ancient spirits whole enough to capture?
  189. [8:31:03 PM CDT] <[Cy]> River: Not as common as the pools of magical energy found across the world, but more common than that one with the intact mind. I suppose they could be considered rare.
  190. [8:32:51 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> So it was as you expected. The powers used to reanimate people had their origin in one of these defiler spirits with an intact mind.
  191. [8:36:20 PM CDT] <[Cy]> River: We will need the assistance of someone close to it to access its mind now, once that happens I can confirm our hypotheses.
  192. [8:36:58 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I see.
  193. [8:37:49 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> There was a Yintem among the Ynnis that surrendered in the Palace. Do you know what's become of him?
  194. [8:39:08 PM CDT] <[Cy]> River: He's awaiting repatriation.
  195. [8:39:57 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> To the State, I assume.
  196. [8:41:33 PM CDT] <[Cy]> River: Of course. I gave him the Writ and he accepted.
  197. [8:42:24 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> And is it known how he ended up in Ynnishire?
  198. [8:45:21 PM CDT] <[Cy]> River: A wayward child of the Ancestors need not disclose the circumstances of their journey to the State, and for some it is in their interests not to. I did not ask for it and he did not tell it. If you are curious, you may ask him yourself and he will have to choose whether or not to tell you.
  199. [8:46:03 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Where could I find him?
  200. [8:48:59 PM CDT] <[Cy]> River: He's in one of the cells two floors up, ask a guard on that floor.
  201. [8:49:39 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Thank you, Administrator. I'm sorry for taking up your time.
  202. [8:50:27 PM CDT] <[Cy]> River: You've earned it.
  203. [8:51:15 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne , having stayed silent during the conversation asks Meadow as they exit the chamber:
  204. [8:51:31 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> What did she mean by 'the Writ'?
  205. [8:52:19 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'm not sure. I assume it's some sort of oath of allegiance to the State and its mission.
  206. [8:54:24 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> The way she phrased it, it seems like he could have refused.
  207. [8:56:24 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'm sure he could have. If he didn't want to be repatriated, then I don't think the State would force him to.
  208. [8:56:43 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow begins to climb stairs as she talks.
  209. [8:57:36 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> That's awfully nice of them.
  210. [8:58:45 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Why did you think they'd force him?
  211. [9:02:18 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Previous experience I suppose. Not with the State of course, but I don't think other groups would've even given him the opportunity.
  212. [9:02:54 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Sounds like a band of cutthroats, demanding loyalty or death.
  213. [9:06:38 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Perhaps? We hanged deserters in the old country. Then again, it doesn't sound like this fellow was a soldier.
  214. [9:06:50 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne shrugs.
  215. [9:07:42 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Well, we have yet to see. Hopefully, he'll be willing to share his story with us.
  216. [9:08:17 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow clears the second flight of stairs, now on the floor River had directed her to.
  217. [9:10:05 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [As other floors, there is a hallway that rings the floor. You can see doorway set at even intervals along the walls a ways away
  218. [9:11:09 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow walks the hallway, looking in doors to see if she can identify a room with holding cells.
  219. [9:13:51 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [The doors have no windows, nor do they open. A pair of guards march along the corridor.]
  220. [9:14:44 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow asks one of the guards:
  221. [9:14:45 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Excuse me.
  222. [9:16:04 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [The guards stop, and the one who replies to you is human.]
  223. [9:16:11 PM CDT] <[Cy]> G: Yes?
  224. [9:19:02 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I heard there was a Yintem being held here. At least some part of his name would sould like "Mekoos."
  225. [9:19:45 PM CDT] <[Cy]> G: There is. What do you want with him?
  226. [9:20:14 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I was hoping to speak with him.
  227. [9:21:15 PM CDT] <[Cy]> G: We will log the request, this way.
  228. [9:21:50 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow follows the guard.
  229. [9:21:51 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [The guards march to a particular door and unlock it with a key, taking up positions on either side of the door after opening it.]
  230. [9:22:58 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow enters the door and waits.
  231. [9:23:35 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne follows her in.
  232. [9:24:06 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [The cell is a small room with full amenities. Mekoos is on the bed reading a book when you enter, setting it down and sitting up. The door stays open behind you.]
  233. [9:24:53 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> [Ranik] You are Mekoos?
  234. [9:27:07 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: [State] No, I have no name. Mekoos was just what was easiest for them to know me as.
  235. [9:28:11 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> [State] Did that name come from an earlier name of yours?
  236. [9:31:47 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: All Citizens know of this, why are you asking?
  237. [9:32:33 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'm sorry. I'm not a citizen, and there are still many things I don't understand.
  238. [9:33:13 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Not a Citizen? But here you are in a State camp, working with Citizens.
  239. [9:33:21 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [He shakes his head.]
  240. [9:33:28 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: A lot has changed I see.
  241. [9:36:06 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'm registered as an Associate of the State. I'm given assignments by Jade River, who presides over the Associate Administration.
  242. [9:37:50 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: An "Associate"? By the Heiress? I don't know if I should trust your words since you've clearly been to many places under guise.
  243. [9:39:27 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> That much is true. But I have been there under orders from the State, who allowed me here to speak with you. If there's some further proof you desire that I have not simply tricked my way here to speak with you, I would gladly do my best to furnish it.
  244. [9:40:26 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [He makes to speak, but pauses.]
  245. [9:40:54 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: No, it's likely not my station to know. Ask what you will then.
  246. [9:42:21 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> You may remember that we spoke once before, in the Palace of Ynnishire. I asked you then of your origins, and I would like to ask after them again. If you're willing to say, I would like to know how you came to Ynnishire.
  247. [9:48:37 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Hmph. If you really must know, I was a captain eleven years ago. Commanded one of the largest and newest bulk haulers to come out of the yards, allowed to because of decades of experience sailing.
  248. [9:48:46 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [He leans back against the wall.]
  249. [9:58:11 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: I was hurrying back home from a shipment and chose to take a shortcut through a straight between two islands—I lived on one of them, fourth child had just been born you see. Now, the tides were changing, so the water was high in that strait, I was also as light on ballast as I could be to squeeze some extra speed. Other details aside, I misjudged how high I sat in the water and clipped the bridge linking the two islands with my ship's br
  250. [9:58:11 PM CDT] <[Cy]> idge.
  251. [9:58:47 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [He fiddles with his beard.]
  252. [10:04:45 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Nobody died, but the ship's repairs took a week and the bridge took a month to rebuild. As I was told at the sentencing, the loss of the ship on that particular route reduced the grain stocks to fall to critical levels for three days, and the loss of the bridge caused a dip in the productivity of those two islands that rippled out across the entire region, forcing a rationing of floral herbs for half a year.
  253. [10:05:25 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: For all that, I lost my citizenship. You know what that means, right?
  254. [10:07:40 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> As an Associate, I'm don't know anything very specific. I would guess it means outlawrly.
  255. [10:11:33 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Hah, there are no outlaws in the State. For all but the most lucky, it's a death sentence. You are put on the next ship out of port, and somewhere along the way you are ordered to get off the ship. In all my years, I've only had one xwel as a temporary passenger. Mind you, if you don't take the jump yourself, you are thrown off.
  256. [10:12:30 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [He gets up and fills a mug of water from a large bottle on the small table.]
  257. [10:14:58 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow waits for the man to finish his drink.
  258. [10:19:26 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [He takes his drink back to his bed and sits down.]
  259. [10:27:26 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Somehow I didn't get eaten by sea-beasts along the way, and swam and drifted until I washed up on land. After that it was going from one place to another with my skills. Picked up some smattering of words along the way, became someone's property, and got traded at Ynnishire. Nobody sane would let some strange outlander who didn't speak their language crew a boat, not that their boats were any good, so I used my recreational occupations to
  260. [10:27:27 PM CDT] <[Cy]> get by, tailoring and angling. I think I did rather well, all things considered, always thought all the swimming we teach our kids was just for surviving accidentally falling off boats, heh.
  261. [10:28:54 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> That's quite the tale. You must be glad for this unexpected homecoming.
  262. [10:30:46 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: It could go either way. I won't be getting my old life back. To the census, I'm a dead person. The life I lead now will be just another Yintem, no family, no history, just the skills I have. Still better than a baby, but it's sad not knowing what became of your kids.
  263. [10:31:24 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: I wonder what name they'll grant me.
  264. [10:31:31 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [He fiddles with an eyebrow]
  265. [10:34:31 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> ...I know something of what it's like to lose a family. But even if you can't be with them agamin, you have a chance to live amongst your people again, if not your homeland.
  266. [10:35:16 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne gets up from the wall she'd been leaning against. She produces her flask and hands it to the man.
  267. [10:35:38 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Is it still his "homeland" though?
  268. [10:35:45 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: What's this?
  269. [10:36:09 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> A drink. A strong one.
  270. [10:37:11 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> You said this happened eleven years ago, right? That means that the last time you were a Citizen, the State was still established on the other side of the ocean.
  271. [10:39:10 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Frankly, I don't even know where this is. And no, thanks, I wouldn't want to say something silly if the authorities come in for processing, never know when they do things.
  272. [10:41:01 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne shrugs and takes a swig from the flask herself before stowing it away.
  273. [10:42:30 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> The City as it stands was founded only four or five years ago. The People came from across the Sea to found it. You must have crossed the entire ocean on the currents and your own strength!
  274. [10:47:08 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Hah! Not likely, it was just a week, any more and I would have passed out and drowned. Back then, the Heiress was just a small child, the plans for moving the Capital from the island to a ship was just being finished, and we had just found out those squiddy things could think.
  275. [10:47:22 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [He nods to himself.]
  276. [10:47:27 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: A lot has changed.
  277. [10:50:26 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'm sure I don't know even half of it.
  278. [10:51:38 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Thank you for sharing your story. One of your former coworkers was asking after your whereabouts; I intend to tell her that you're being repatriated. Would you prefer I keep the rest of your story confidential?
  279. [10:53:04 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Ah, you can tell them that I fell off a boat once and washed up on their doorstep, anything else would probably just confuse them. What happened to Ynnishire, by the way?
  280. [10:53:53 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne looks at Meadow.
  281. [10:55:00 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I don't think I have much more news than you do. We both left at the same time. I don't suppose it's faring well, though; being a central point of military conflict between the Khashwagh Confederacy and the Dominion. I imagine it's largely in ruins by now.
  282. [10:57:18 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Thorough. Some things never change, I suppose. Try not to remind the others of their home, I'm sure they can imagine.
  283. [10:57:38 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow laughs sadly under her breath.
  284. [10:57:45 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I've already been told as much.
  285. [10:59:23 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Expected. Anything else you want to know?
  286. [10:59:39 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow looks to Hanne.
  287. [11:00:42 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> What'll happen to you once you return?
  288. [11:03:49 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: I have my proficiencies evaluated, my suitability of integration examined, and if all works out I get assigned a residence somewhere to start my new professional occupation, whatever they deem me fit to do best. If not, maybe I can be one of these "associates", though I doubt a xwel can sign up to be one.
  289. [11:12:08 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I'm sure things will turn out okay for you. After all, you've survived this long, long enough to get a fresh start.
  290. [11:12:10 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne pauses.
  291. [11:12:37 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Couldn't you ask about your family?
  292. [11:12:42 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne looks at Meadow.
  293. [11:12:56 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow looks back.
  294. [11:12:59 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I'm not clear on the laws here.
  295. [11:15:35 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Nothing stops me from identifying myself as who I was before, but if I demonstrate to the census that I am a dead man, they may send me for a swim again to reconcile the records. Only those who have been lost against their will would claim their previous life. Nobody asks, and you aren't obligated to tell. As I understand it, it's a tradition from when the State was a tiny island in a world of barbarity, where even a failure could be usefu
  296. [11:15:35 PM CDT] <[Cy]> l again.
  297. [11:16:23 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: That part, I'm glad to not have changed.
  298. [11:16:57 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> You must be confident that we can't turn you in as a dead man, having told us.
  299. [11:18:06 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Would they even listen to us?
  300. [11:19:12 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: The process excludes all others for exactly that purpose. I imagine in the early days centuries ago, when the State was smaller, the chances of someone with grief against you being in the vicinity of where you wash up was greater. The processing likely don't actually take place here, nor by anyone in this camp.
  301. [11:20:20 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Plus, agents who want to try me for my old crimes wouldn't have come up with all the stuff you said just to get a confession. I'd know, hah.
  302. [11:20:56 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Even so, there's nothing to stop us from spreading the word. If you really would be sent back to the bottom of the ocean should they discover their accounts are unbalanced, I'd think you'd try to prevent the discovery, no matter when it take place.
  303. [11:22:19 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne crosses her arms and raises an eyebrow at Meadow.
  304. [11:22:27 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Are you going to say anything?
  305. [11:22:45 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'm certainly not planning on it.
  306. [11:23:30 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: I can see that you still do not understand the State very well. Maybe you don't want to, though I wouldn't blame you for that.
  307. [11:24:09 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Citizen education would have to be particularly thorough for someone like you.
  308. [11:27:19 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I wouldn't be asking if I didn't think I wanted to understand. I can understand that the State is willing to take you back without asking any questions, but you are confessing to your past crimes in full earshot of your jailors. Even if we aren't trustworthy enough to condemn you for your past, your Citizen guards just as well could. If, as you say, you'd be sent to die again if your identity is discovered, then I don't
  309. [11:27:19 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> understand why you'd discuss it so freely.
  310. [11:28:00 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Be assured, I understand the gulf that exists between my thinking and the States. But my ignorance is not willful. I'm trying to learn.
  311. [11:28:48 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Because they are not my evaluators, nor will the evaluators ask them, nor will they tell the evaluators.
  312. [11:29:23 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [He gives you a perplexed look.]
  313. [11:29:40 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne laughs softly.
  314. [11:30:07 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I'd say that's a pretty good deal. If I returned to my homeland, I'd be killed for sure.
  315. [11:31:42 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: I've heard similar during my travels. I didn't understand it at first, but I think I do. A bit of a waste of talent, though.
  316. [11:36:23 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Is it really so strange to seek to understand a people that you do not?
  317. [11:37:35 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: I suppose not, but you have a curious way of going about it is all.
  318. [11:37:57 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Perhaps so.
  319. [11:41:26 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: If that is all, you should probably get back to my former colleagues. They could use someone who speaks their language.
  320. [11:41:38 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Yes. You've been very gracious to answer our questions when you had no need at all to. Thank you.
  321. [11:41:52 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Best of luck.
  322. [11:42:17 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne steps outside and sighs.
  323. [11:42:39 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [The guards close the cell up after you both have stepped out and resume their patrol.]
  324. [11:44:55 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow leads the way to the watchpost containing the captured Ynni.
  325. [11:49:05 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [You return to the watchpost without incident.]
  326. [11:49:47 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow enters the watchpost and looks about for the maid she knows.
  327. [11:51:21 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [Someone had brought breakfast to the Ynni, and so it looks like they've just started their meal. The maids are doing what they're good at, just finishing off filling glasses of water.]
  328. [11:52:11 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow approaches the maid as she finishes her task.
  329. [11:52:16 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Excuse me, is now a good time?
  330. [11:53:58 PM CDT] <[Cy]> M: We're in the middle of breakfast. It doesn't look like your portions have been provided either.
  331. [11:54:32 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'll wait until the service is over, then.
  332. [11:55:24 PM CDT] <[Cy]> [She gives you an annoyed expression before going back to what she was doing.]
  333. [11:56:04 PM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow leads the way back out of the watchpost.
  334. [11:56:24 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Hanne, you said you wanted to try to identify the faeries?
  335. [11:57:36 PM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> I did. I'm hoping with some luck, I'll be able to manage to infuse them with some of my equipment.
  336. [11:58:10 PM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Let's do that. That should last through brekfast.
  337. [11:59:41 PM CDT] * [110]_Hanne leads the way back to the bunkrooms where her gear is stored. Once at Hanne's bed, she opens her pack to reveal the fairies.
  338. [12:00:39 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Like I said earlier, I don't know what I'm doing, so don't get your hopes up.
  339. [12:02:57 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> !roll 1d10 + 10 Fairies
  340. [12:02:58 AM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [110]_Hanne rolled: {2}=> 2 + 10 = 12 "Fairies"
  341. [12:07:03 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> So these are the ones?
  342. [12:07:52 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> They are.
  343. [12:08:02 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow picks up one of the faerie orbs.
  344. [12:08:03 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [The specks of light float and flit about in their small glass containers, small enough to be held three in a hand.]
  345. [12:08:57 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow takes a look at the sparkles as they dance in the orb in her hand, waiting to feel some sort of inspiration as to its intended purpose.
  346. [12:13:36 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> !roll 1d20 + 1d8 + 1 Cha & Wll
  347. [12:13:38 AM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [Multi]_Meadow rolled: {2}=> 2 + {8}=> 8 + 1 = 11 "Cha & Wll"
  348. [12:15:25 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Meadow seems to intuit some cleansing energy radiate from the orb. You can't explain it, but this one orb looks particularly sanitary.]
  349. [12:15:51 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> This one has something to do with cleanliness.
  350. [12:17:06 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Perhaps I ought to have it put in a brush.
  351. [12:17:47 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow sets the orb in her hand on the bed, and reaches for another from Hanne's bag to repeat the process.
  352. [12:18:41 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> !roll 1d20 + 1d8 + 1 Cha & Wll
  353. [12:18:43 AM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [Multi]_Meadow rolled: {19}=> 19 + {8}=> 8 + 1 = 28 "Cha & Wll"
  354. [12:24:54 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Meadow stares into the floating point of light and seems to see an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which
  355. [12:24:54 AM CDT] <[Cy]> she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye, in which she sees an eye, her own eye. After falling through a veritable occular tunnel, you pull yourse
  356. [12:24:56 AM CDT] <[Cy]> lf out of it. Your eyes hurt, and you aren't sure what the faerie does, but for some reason Hanne seems to glow a bit.]
  357. [12:26:56 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow looks from Hanne back to the orb a few times.
  358. [12:27:08 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Check yourself in a mirror for a second.
  359. [12:27:43 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Err, what?
  360. [12:28:18 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Humor me.
  361. [12:28:54 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne looks at Meadow with confusion before drawing her sword and looking at her own reflection.
  362. [12:29:22 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow waits for Hanne's verdict.
  363. [12:29:25 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Hanne looks like Hanne.]
  364. [12:29:42 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne looks back at Meadow.
  365. [12:29:58 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Is this your roundabout way to tell me my haircut looks bad?
  366. [12:30:09 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow snorts.
  367. [12:30:41 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne sheaths her sword and scratches her head.
  368. [12:31:47 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> It does, but I wasn't going to say so. It looks to me like you're glowing. I'm not sure what the orb does, but maybe it has something to do with detecting something. Maybe registered serfs? Maybe anyone who can't use magic? I'm not sure, but I think I may be using it right now.
  369. [12:32:17 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow sets the orb on the bed and looks to Hanne before picking up the next from the bag.
  370. [12:38:11 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow notes how Hanne's glow persists. She casts about the bunkroom for other people that might be glowing.
  371. [12:39:48 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Everyone else you see is glowing. A person you recognize as another cell leader is glowing a bit more.]
  372. [12:41:53 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> It looks like everyone is glowing. The one over there [[she points out which one]] is glowing a bit stronger. Maybe we can talk later and find out what's special there. It might be a hint.
  373. [12:42:08 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow reaches into the bag for another orb.
  374. [12:42:18 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> !roll 1d20 + 1d8 + 1 Cha & Wll
  375. [12:42:20 AM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [Multi]_Meadow rolled: {1}=> 1 + {1}=> 1 + 1 = 3 "Cha & Wll"
  376. [12:45:00 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [You can't tell what's in the orb beyond a flitting red point of light. You go through the rest and ascertain their functions to a passable degree, though there is a small pile that you can't figure out.]
  377. [12:47:26 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I think that that's the best that I can do. If you want to know more, you'll have to find an expert.
  378. [12:48:08 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Thanks, this
  379. [12:50:22 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> 'll do for now. I'm in the process of acquiring more armour, so hopefully by the time I'm finished I can figure the rest out.
  380. [12:50:55 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> You want to try to add some magic to your armor?
  381. [12:51:16 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> How else am I to defend against their attacks?
  382. [12:52:48 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> You could always ask the State for an enchantment. They typically offer a reward of your choice after a successful mission.
  383. [12:54:49 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Yes, but why stop there?
  384. [12:56:12 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> As long as your amatuer tinkering doesn't interfere with their high craftsmanship, I suppose you have nothing to fear.
  385. [12:56:25 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Do you think the Yinni's breakfast is over by now?
  386. [1:00:04 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> Maybe? Either way, I probably won't go back with you. I don't think they like me very much. If you need me, I'll either be here or down in the armory.
  387. [1:00:45 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Alright, then. I'll try my luck once more. I'm worried I did or said something gauche. With any luck, I can patch it up.
  388. [1:04:55 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow removes herself from the bunkroom and goes to the watchpost to see if breakfast is over.
  389. [1:05:45 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne picks up the third fairie and stares at it.
  390. [1:06:17 AM CDT] <[110]_Hanne> !roll 1d6 + 1d8 orudum
  391. [1:06:18 AM CDT] <FeistyKaka> [110]_Hanne rolled: {1}=> 1 + {2}=> 2 = 3 "orudum"
  392. [1:06:41 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Hanne doesn't notice anything.]
  393. [1:07:20 AM CDT] * [110]_Hanne puts it back.
  394. [1:09:50 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Meadow notices everyone has a glow as she ascends to the surface and returns to the watchpost. Virothuin has a particularly bright glow. The servants are cleaning up after breakfast now and some of the chairs have been set up on the observation platform.]
  395. [1:11:13 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow sighs and waits just outside the door until the cleanup is finished.
  396. [1:18:44 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Meadow lurks awkwardly around the watchpost until everything seems to be tidied.]
  397. [1:20:18 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow enters the watchpost and attempts to identify the maid of interest.
  398. [1:24:57 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [You spot her easily, putting away some chairs. She too glows moderately.]
  399. [1:26:19 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow approaches the maid to make and attempt not to put her foot in her mouth.
  400. [1:28:32 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Excuse me.
  401. [1:29:36 AM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Did you find anything?
  402. [1:31:46 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Yes. Mekoos, as you knew him, was from the State originally, but fell overboard during a voyage at sea. He eventually washed up near Ynnishire, and eventually found work at the Palace. Now that he's returned to State territory, he's undergoing the process of repatriation.
  403. [1:35:25 AM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Oh, that's good, I guess. Your boss seemed pretty serious when she spoke to him back there. We were a bit worried about what was going on.
  404. [1:36:47 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I don't think there's any need to worry on his behalf. He'll be taken in, given a new name, as is customary, and provided for.
  405. [1:41:44 AM CDT] <[Cy]> M: I just hope we have something like that.
  406. [1:44:36 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [She pats herself off and looks around the room.]
  407. [1:44:40 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I imagine you'll probably be treated in a manner closer to mine; given an opportunity to become an Associate of the State. You may be held for a while, but I don't imagine you'll be at all mistreated. Even if you decline to stay with the State, I don't think they would do more than let you loose at the City border—but I'm not at all familiar with how the State deals with people in your situation. I can't guarantee anything,
  408. [1:44:40 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> and you shouldn't trust what I say as anything more than a guess.
  409. [1:49:01 AM CDT] <[Cy]> M: What's an "associate"
  410. [1:51:06 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> An Associate is someone is a non-Citizen who is lisenced to deal with the State, and in some instances, act on its behalf.
  411. [1:52:12 AM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Hmmm, I don't know if mercenary life would work for us. Master isn't used to travelling.
  412. [1:54:11 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Not all Associates hold military positions. If you gain wider access to the City, then you'll be able to see the Alienage for yourself; there are many non-citizens there who provide entirely civilian services.
  413. [1:55:13 AM CDT] <[Cy]> M: What services are there?
  414. [1:57:52 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Restaurateurs, clothiers, bath keepers... Everything you'd expect. Merchants of all sorts, selling their wares to whoever cares to purchase them. I don't doubt that you would be able to find some employment there, if you were given the opportunity, ah...
  415. [1:58:04 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I realize that this is a bit late, but I believe that we've come this far without learning each other's name.
  416. [2:01:47 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [She gives you that deadpan expression again.]
  417. [2:04:12 AM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Well I didn't figure you were interested in knowing.
  418. [2:08:03 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Then allow me to rectify the misunderstanding. My name is—You can call me Meadow. What's you name, if I might ask?
  419. [2:13:06 AM CDT] <[Cy]> M: Meadow? Isn't that a weird name? Mine's Risal.
  420. [2:15:48 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Risal. That's a nice name. My name is originally Amuzhdalo. When I became an Associate, I took the name "Almond Meadow," after what I understood of the State fashion of naming. It sounds and means something similar to the name I had before that.
  421. [2:29:31 AM CDT] <[Cy]> R: Mine's an old name that's been in my family for generations. Not sure what it means or where it comes from though.
  422. [2:30:26 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I think it sounds lovely.
  423. [2:35:32 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Now, I'm a bit nervous to ask, but, earlier this morning, when I came in during breakfast, did I offend you somehow?
  424. [2:36:17 AM CDT] <[Cy]> R: Not particularly, but it would have been inconvenient to have guests we could not feed, and if you stood around watching, it would seem like you were overseeing prisoners or something.
  425. [2:37:14 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> Yes, I was hoping to avoid any rudeness by simply removing myself from the situation and coming back later.
  426. [2:40:48 AM CDT] <[Cy]> R: Well from now until our next meal, we don't have much to do. I doubt they have books that we can read either.
  427. [2:41:26 AM CDT] * [Multi]_Meadow gives Risal a small smile.
  428. [2:41:54 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> If you're interested, I can give you a primer on some simple phrases on the State language.
  429. [2:45:10 AM CDT] <[Cy]> R: Teach Master first, if she wants to learn it, she'll probably have more use than me.
  430. [2:47:20 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'd be glad to, if she's willing to let me. From what I understand the State has some designs for her, and will either provide an interpreter, or instruction that's far superior to mine. But I don't have any assignments at the moment, and I'd be glad to render what service I can here.
  431. [2:50:58 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [Risal ponders a bit.]
  432. [2:52:58 AM CDT] <[Cy]> R: I guess that's not my decision either. You can visit and try if you have nothing else to do.
  433. [2:53:56 AM CDT] <[Multi]_Meadow> I think I would like that.
  434. [3:00:01 AM CDT] <[Cy]> [As morning turns to afternoon, Meadow spends the time in the third watchpost.]
