  1. By all known laws of aviation, a bat pony should not be capable of sustained flight. Yet, here was a bat pony who was clearly capable of sustained flight. Flapping with the air currents, timing the updrafts with the beating of her wings, these were important skills for all bat ponies. Although the same could be said for pegasi. Far above the ground this little pony flew, bouncing off clouds as she went. Gleefully she twisted and twirled, her azure mane blowing here and there, but this pony held not a care for that as she spotted her target. Slitted eyes locked on to a speck many many meters below her level; her keen sight paying off for once. Quickly, she twisted her body towards the object of her attention and dove.
  2.
  3. One could say that the sound of a diving pony was much like that of a bomb being dropped from an aeroplane. For all intents and purposes you hear something coming, yet you don't know where it will come from. The poor zebra below was no exception; she heard the whistling, yes, but had no idea where it was coming from. Switching her poor marked head from side to side, a striped mane whisking about with the gusts of wind obscured her vision. The zebra cursed softly to herself as she cleared the strands away from her face, but it was too late. She was launched to the side as another body impacted straight on her starboard section, and the two equines tumbled about in the grassy meadow.
  4. The bat pony quickly came to. Sitting up and shaking her head, she inspected the zebra she had impacted, only to find the mare hacking up blades of grass and dirt. Violet eyes widened as a hoof shot up to her snout, stifling the giggle that had nearly spouted out.
  5.
  6. "Phbleh!" The zebra spat, "What the heck, Dawn?! My potions could've been shattered!" Said zebra huffed, glaring at the bat pony not a few meters close by.
  7.
  8. Dawn let out a 'snrk' and stuck her tongue out at the, admittedly cute, angry zebra. "Aw, chill out. I was just having a laugh!"
  9.
  10. The stricken zebra grumbled what Dawn presumed to be insults before gathering carefully wrapped up packages that had been spilled by her attempt to have fun. She watched as striped hooves tenderly set the packages at the rightful place in her saddlebag's inventory.
  11.
  12. "Just having a laugh... These are important, Dawn, they're for a client!" The zebra shouted over her shoulder, still handling the contents of the saddlebags. "...What are you doing this far out from Hollow Shades, anyway?"
  13.
  14. At this, Dawn glanced to the side, idly kicking a pebble near her hooves. "Oh, er... Well, Starry was being troublesome. So... I decided to go out for a fly, alone."
  15.
  16. "And you'd leave your little sister behind just because she was being troublesome? How responsible of you." The zebra rolled her eyes and shook her body, ridding the last of the grass deposited upon her coat.
  17.
  18. Dawn scoffed, "Like you're one to talk Arezodi... Didn't you used to give experimental potions to your little bro-"
  19.
  20. With almost lightning speed, Arezodi shoved a hoof in the bat pony's mouth. "Don't remind me, point taken."
  21. ---
  22. Somewhere at a cottage in Hollow Shades, a door opened. Pale blue hooves timidly clip clopped from beyond the door opening, and a little head stuck itself out. The tiny pony sniffed, fluffy ears twirling around like small satellite dishes. Confused more than anything, the pony stepped out the rest of the way and called,
  23.
  24. "D-Dawn? Are you here?" The small bat pony waited for an answer, looking down the hall towards her sister's room. "...Dawn...?"
  25.
  26. Trying to be quiet, and failing, she made her way down the hard wood hallway for her sibling's 'cave' as she called it. It wasn't so much a cave as a bigger version of the filly's own room. With some added socks strewn about; Dawn sure did like her socks. Then, her golden eyes locked onto the object of her desire. It was a simple thing, really. A little plushie of Luna's personal guard. Starry loved Luna's guard, one time they came to Hollow Shades and gave her candy! Then they said that she could be a part of the guard one day too!
  27.
  28. Her perked ears went down as she remembered that Dawn likely wasn't here, and she didn't know why. Dawn also said that she couldn't go in her room, but this was her plushie! Huffing defiantly, Starry stormed into her sister's room and over to the desk that was slightly taller than her. She stared up at the toy on the desk before reaching up on her hind legs, one hoof braced against the desk while her other hoof swatted at the fuzzy thing. Finally, she managed to knock it off the desk and quickly hugged it against her chest.
  29.
  30. "Yay! Knighty, I saved you!" The filly snuggled her toy happily.
  31. She reached the stern looking plushie out in front of her with a hoof, like he was facing her, and spoke in a deeper tone. "Oh thank you! Dawn is a meanie weenie, but you saved me, princess!"
  32.
  33. Starry giggled and hugged the toy to her fluffy chest again, "No problem, Knighty, anything for my loyal friend!"
  34.
  35. Sticking her tongue out, she placed her loyal guard between her wings, keeping him level. "Now we gotta go find Dawn!"
  36.
  37. The pony tiphoofed out of Dawn's room and briefly looked into her own. If she were an adult Starry might have mused that she needed to clean her room, but being the silly filly she is; Starry simply didn't have a care for it. The pony hummed a tune that Luna's guard marched to in Hollow Shades as she crept around the cottage, still searching for the inexplicably missing older sister.
  38.
  39. "Daaawwwn! I'm sorry I ate the last mangoooo!" Starry shouted out, yet no answer but her own echo came back to her ears.
  40.
  41. "Maybe she went outside!" She mimicked the deeper voice of her own royal guard. Her ears perked up as that's probably where she went, but where outside.?
  42.
  43. "B-but Dawn says I can't go outside without her permission..." Her ears drooped; Dawn would be awfully mad if she caught Starry outside 'terrorizing the garden' again.
  44.
  45. "That big meanie isn't here! What if she's missing, Starry? She wouldn't go out without telling you!" The bat filly mimicked once more. She considered her loyal guard's idea, should she go out and possibly face getting grounded? Or never see Dawn again?
  46.
  47. Her wings shot up, nearly throwing the plushie from its' place. "Let's go find Dawn!" Starry shouted, before hearing the click of a door.
  48. Squeaking, the filly tried to run away, knowing that Dawn had come home and would probably be mean to her again.
  49.
  50. "Hey, Starry, wait." Dawn's rougher voice cut through the air as Starry came to a halt, obeying her sister.
  51.
  52. "Y-yeah Dawn?" The smaller bat pony tried to hide the plushie underneath her wings, but it was making them itchy.
  53.
  54. Dawn calmly trotted over to Starry and plopped down beside her, noticing part of the plushie sticking out from under Starry's wings. She wasn't mad, though. Her violet eyes scrutenized Starry's borderline terrified form. Her zebra friend's words came back to mind, was she really not the responsible older sister she thought she was? Sighing, she looked back into Starry's eyes before wrapping her much longer hooves around the younger bat pony; pulling her sister into her own warm embrace.
  55.
  56. "I love you, Starry." Dawn smiled and nuzzled the top of Starry's head.
  57.
  58. Starry was perplexed, but the scared feeling melted away into relief, then joy as she attempted to wrap her hooves around Dawn as well. "I-I love you too, Dawn."
