  1. From the desk of Ivan Cirstyx.
  2.
  3. Greetings, boy. Your mother and I received your letter. She at once made both unsightly squealing noises and motherly tuts of affection. Congratulations. I, too, am glad to hear that you're still alive, at least. Goddess knows how. Perhaps your silly idea of physical training for a mage has some merit after all? Hmm. Unlikely.

  5. Your inquiry about your acquaintance and his affliction is curious. My own research has found some fruit with regards to phylacteries, or soul-storing objects, though most is through anecdotal hearsay. I believe if you wish your friend to be rid of this death sentence, I could perhaps make a trip out to your domicile and do the deed myself, though it would invariably cause the permanent riddance of whoever the possessing spirit is. I trust that's not an issue? No, wait. Hmm. Mayhaps a slight issue. Morals and all. Sigh.

  7. If you wish to figure things out on your own without having to plead for my assistance, I believe I have an acquaintance who may be of some use. He is called Thane, and resides in the desert city, Daevali. Might let things settle down there, however. I hear the self-styled queen of that place has recently been... indisposed, shall we say. Or killed, if you prefer. It matters not a whit to me.

  9. Remember, boy. Your mother looks forward to hearing about your exploits as much as any other, but letters are a godsend for her. You may write to me as you wish. I too look forward to hearing of your triumphs. Perhaps soon you will learn something new and interesting.
  10.
  11. Until next time, I remain
  12. Your father,
  13.
  14. Ivan Cirstyx
