- [03:00] Ethan Hawke asks, "So, what did you need help with?"
- [03:03] Slamming his staff into the ground, the boy puffed out his chest.
- "I wanna learn Occult stuff!"
- (Kasei Heifang)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [03:05] Ethan offered a small nod, watching the demonstration that came with the staff.
- "Do you have any clue of how to bring it out?"
- (Ethan Hawke)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [03:06] Kasei shrugged, glancing around the forest.
- "No..? I just wanna do it since my fire's really weak. And-- Other reasons.."
- (Kasei Heifang)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- [03:10] Ethan nodded a few times before he spoke up.
- "What other reason?"
- (Ethan Hawke)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [03:11] Kasei puffed out his cheeks, glancing off to the side.
- ".. People keep talking to the angel kids. That's all they do." A slight pause, his brow furrowing.
- "Angel kid this. Angel kid that. I hate it! Mom's always busy doing stuff, dad's dead, and uncle keeps going off to do important things too! Nobody pays any attention to me!"
- (Kasei Heifang)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [03:12] Ethan Hawke says, "... Well, you definitely have the right mindset for it."
- [03:16] Ethan gave a small nod to the kid before he decided to give a few wise words, hopefully to guide Kasei towards the right path, despite the magic.
- "First thing you gotta remember is that the magic you use doesn't change the person you are. I've seen plenty of bad people with holy magic and vice-versa, yeah? So just... do what feels right, alright."
- The young man stepped a bit closer.
- "Anyway, occult magic is the opposite of divine magic. Anyone can use it but it consumes your soul. It corrupts it, bit by bit. I used to be way more kind, but... Yeah. Battles happen. Divine magic hurts the soul, though. At least when you're human."
- (Ethan Hawke)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [03:22] "Di.. Divine?"
- Canting his head ever so slightly to the side, the boy seemed to deflate on the spot; staring down at his hands as they clenched, and un-clenched. It's scary to think about, the corruption of one's soul. Yet, Ethan seemed find. So it's probably just another one of those legends to keep kids away from learning things certain people didn't like, right..?
- Quickly shaking his head as if to remove those thoughts from it, a sigh could be heard coming from the boy.
- ".. Uncle Salthiel said that I should be prepared to do whatever it takes to do what's right, and my fire's just not getting any stronger. And I just can't grasp Holy magic. So I don't gotta choice. Plus--" Another sigh, his foot kicking at some of the dirt on the ground,
- "--.. Maybe they'll start paying attention to me if they see me using it."
- (Kasei Heifang)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [03:29] Ethan gave a small nod, walking up a bit closer to the kid. He lowered himself to meet him face to face, a hand being placed on his shoulder, a warm smile being offered.
- "Never forget, Kasei. You're a good kid."
- What followed was probably difficult to understand - after all occult magic wasn't easy to grasp without strong emotions being funneled into it. Kasei had the right mindset, all that was left was a trigger.
- And so, a fist came rushing right towards Kasei's nose.
- (Ethan Hawke)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [03:34] "R-Really..?"
- Canting his head ever so slightly to the side, a smile found it's way onto Kasei's features. Only for that to be instantly regretted as a fist slammed into his nose, a loud crunch being heard as the boy stumbled back. Grasping onto his nose, tears welling up in his eyes as his brow furrowed together.
- "What the heck are you doing?! G-Guh..! This HURTS!"
- (Kasei Heifang)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [03:36] "Really? Then do something about it."
- His taunting was only going to push those emotions further - though these words alone weren't nearly enough for the young Heifang to manifest a whole new type of magic. He needed more.
- "Unless you just wanna see your retainer and your family also leave you for the angels. It'd probably be better for you, anyway. They don't really care about you, do they?
- You're just not special enough."
- (Ethan Hawke)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [03:48] "Do what?!"
- Sniffling, some crimson ichor began drooling his face from his probably broken nose. Completely distracted by just how much it hurt, instead of anything else.
- Well, that is until Ethan started taunting him.
- Going as stiff as a board, the poor boy stood there as the man's words registered in his mind, his eyes growing wide as everything around him seemed to just sink into nothingness. Since he left his family home he's been alone, brushed off to the side as others went to go do important things; things he was never invited to.
- I mean, the kid went around shooting people with a gun to get their attention, after all. It's pretty obvious that's what he's been after all this time; for someone to pay attention to him. I mean, the kid went around shooting people with a gun to get their attention, after all.
- Gritting his teeth, those bottled up emotions of abandonment, resentment, and just how darn angry he was about his nose finally broke free from their container. Swirling around to cloud his mind, doing exactly the opposite of what his uncle told him to do.
- No, instead? Those intrusive thoughts were welcomed as the boy stepped closer, a feeling of malevolence clinging closely behind him as if it were a cloak. His hand reaching down to grab onto his staff, his brow furrowing as he shot forth a blaze of fire across the fields, and towards the man.
- "SHUT UP!"
- (Kasei Heifang)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [04:12] Ethan may have been kind but he understood the value of knowing one's own place. While he could've messed around with the boy and taken things easily, it was important to show him just how far he'd have to get - just how far he was from his objective.
- As crimson flames came rushing forth a wall of darker fire bursted forth - stopping the boy's attempt before it could even reach his elder. From beyond this dark inferno Ethan offered nothing but a smile. Kasei's newfound strength was alive and present, definitely. A familiar sensation was being exuded from the Heifang, though it wasn't enough.
- He couldn't just think that this would be enough for people to recognize him for what he was worth. An overwhelming sensation of dread forced itself down upon the boy before the forest they were in was lit ablaze. Infernal, hellish flames were raging far and wide as a blast of abyssal heat exploded outwards from Ethan's body.
- Kasei was about to have a beating he'd remember for a long, long time. Despite the school of magic at use the strongest was not hatred, but love. Doing horrible, terrible things for love was how Ethan got himself into trouble in the first place, after all.
- "Is that all you've got?"
- (Ethan Hawke)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [04:21] Surrounded by a terrible blaze of hellish fire, the boy's eyes grew wide. Quickly glancing around, his heart practically beating out of his chest at this point as the whispers began. As if someone were standing behind him, speaking words only meant for his ears; words asking for him to set the things around him ablaze, just as the man did.
- Still gritting his teeth together he tried to find the resolve for him to remain standing against the man, a swathe of flames erupting forth to cover his body. Grasping onto his staff, readying himself for the fight ahead.
- "Shut up! It's all I need!"
- Yeah, he's in for an ass beating. But it's one that's been coming for a long time. One that might hopefully beat some more unforeseen power that the boy can tap into it.
- (Kasei Heifang)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [04:30] Brutal. Effortless.
- The gap between that was so wide that Ethan was able to withstand Kasei's entire arsenal of abilities and stand there with barely a scratch on his body. A mere touch of his flames was nothing to scoff at, either, leaving burns and marks upon the boy's body. His feet would most definitely be given the roughest of lessons; reminding him that footwear existed for a reason.
- Shrouding himself in dark flames the young man decided to bring down the young Heifang in a way that'd stick with him for the rest of his life. He shoulder checked him, sending the Heifang tumbling down on the ground covered in superficial, small injuries. Hopefully that had been enough to calm him down.
- Walking over him, Ethan offered a hand to help him back up, keeping the same warm smile as before as he spoke.
- "You managed it. Good job. You've got a lot of work to do, but you're on the right path. I believe in you, Kasei."
- (Ethan Hawke)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- [04:36] Gosh..
- Being shoulder checked was something he's never going to live down, and it's probably something he'll get the Hawke back later for many years down the line. But, for now, his hand reached out to take the others so that he can be helped up to his feet.
- Slowly nodding his head along,
- "Y-Yeah, thanks!"
- Grinning just about as long as life, a chill's sent down the boy's spine as he glanced around once more. Still seeing the forest set ablaze, hearing those whispers he heard replaying through his mind on repeat.. Probably just the wind, or something..
- (Kasei Heifang)
